Analyst: PS3 to outsell Xbox 360, Wii
The PS3 is currently a distant third in the home console sales race, almost six million units behind the Xbox 360, and a whopping 36 million units behind the Wii. And yet an industry analyst thinks everything will change when this generation comes to an end, with the PS3 outselling all-comers, eventually.
The console generations of yesteryear are no more, literally. Instead of home consoles which are all replaced at around the same time, we now have three consoles which are likely to be succeeded at different times. The Wii is likely to be replaced first, followed by the Xbox 360, with the PS3 going last. Will that fact alone be enough to allow the PS3 to catch up?
According to Gamasutra, SACHD (Strategy Analytics Connected Home Devices service) principal analyst David Mercer thinks so, predicting that the PS3 will live on five years after the Wii, with global lifetime sales of the two console reaching 127 million and 103 million units respectively. He argues:
Nintendo has done a great job with the Wii in bringing console games to new audiences. But its sales are now falling, particularly in mature markets, and its installed base will peak in 2011. Ownership of both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will hit their highest points between 2012 and 2014.
I have no doubts that the PS3 will live on well past the Wii. But whether that will be enough to see the PS3 overtake the Nintendo console remains to be seen. Isn’t there a case for arguing that gamers will move on to the next generation, even if Sony doesn’t?

Like I said before 360 & Wii are living in borrowed time.
While Sony was tied up with the BD vs. HDDVD war it was their window of opportunity to sneak in and chomp a huge chunk of the Playstation pie. Now that PS3 has won the format wars the big/slim bad black behemoth is gonna take it all back and there is nothing they can do to stop it wether they adopt blu-ray or not.

PS3 will outsell the 360 in 2011. I predict that the PS3 will outsell the 360 by 4-5 million consoles this year and overtake by next year.
The price drop was the real kicker and that happened in September 09 and resulted in a 2million+ margin between yearly 09 sales over the 360.
Having that same lower price all year should clearly work in favor for the PS3. Big PS3 franchises coming out this year should also help. FF13, God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5. All those games will sway fence sitters to pick the system up. Remember, those games are the first “next gen” title of their respective title for “this gen”. What I’m getting at, and I’ll use Halo Reach as an example is, Most Halo fans already have a 360 because Halo 3 came out a while ago. Reach won’t have the same impact. Same can be saif with Splinter Cell Conviction as Double Agent has been available fro years and any big SC fan should have bought the console for that.
Passing the wii on the other hand, I see as a difficult proposition. Unless they outright stop selling it, it will continue to sell to the casual market that really couldn’t care less about flashy graphics and what not. The same people I don’t forses making the Nintendo “next gen” jump, because……Why would they?

Yeah that’s the word on the street anyway but I guess only time will tell. The end of 2012 is a good 3 years away yet and will give the 720 a big headstart over the ps4 if they’re gonna wait another 6 years.
I suppose the pros of this is that you will have a bit of variety in each gen like back when you had PS1 vs N64.

another interesting point about the price drops is how MS have only managed to drop its price (for the standard model) by just $100 in 4 years, while Sony has cut down the PS3 price by $300 in 3 years
360 standard model:
2005 = $400
2010 = $300
PS3 standard model:
2006 = $600
2010 = $300
but hey xbots will always defend MS and their way to do business..just a $100 price drop in 4 years and still no bluray, no wifi, no built-in battery…but yet it has been consistent in being unreliable

I would say the 360 is a given at this point. The Wii on the other hand, is going to be a stretch.
The prediction is based off of the PS3 being relevant for a longer time. Considering the PS3s tech is about 30 years ahead of the Wii’s, it just might be possible.

Question:
I have movies that play from windows server and play when I copy them to the PS3 HDD but when I through them on USB it says no media found.
Any ideas? Is the PS3 expecting the USB stick to be formatted in FAT or something? Same thing when I hook up a USB HDD.

I had to format my TB harddrive to Fat32 to get it to work on the PS3 and Xbox. I tried this with Vista’s tools first but it didn’t work. I downloaded a program that did do it, but I can’t remember the name of it.
Long story short, converting it to FAT32 will make the movies visible.

This is awesome i just saw the live GDC at GameSpot. This is the end of the Wii for sure. Also you will be able to use your regular DUALSHOCK 3 controller or PlayStation Move. I will be buying this this year for sure. Now Nintendo needs to create a new console or get outer the business.
I can’t wait to see E3. And the other gaming conference. For real the people that own a Wii will be selling their console right after people start posting this GDC videos online. The Wii audience is has been officially upgrade to PS3 starting this fall.

I wish Sony make this PlayStation Move controller for PlayStation 2 and upgrade most of the game via firmware and re-released the 40GB HDD PS2 model fat. They could the PlayStation Network to PS2 via HDD. And since the console has a 140 million customer worldwide based a lot of developers will be loving the idea is mass profit for everyone. I know it won’t happen but this is a brilliant idea and it can only bring massive profit for Sony.

I only got 20-30 minutes on FF7 CC so I’m not sure yet.
I’m not much into reading games. I always forget what I read after 10 minutes. Lol

Everyone is better then Microsoft. Even companies like EA and Activision are. Microsoft is only good when it has no competitors.
