Micro-review: Age of Zombies – a portable version of Left for Dead
Zombie games may seem like a dime-a-dozen nowadays, but if you look hard enough there are some real gems out there. That is what Halfbrick studio hopes to bring with Age of Zombies for the PSP and PS3.
Age of Zombie is a new PSN mini title that can be played on the PSP or PS3. The game is a pretty straight forward top down shooter with a few new twists thrown in for good measure.
Believe it or not, there is an actual story behind this bite sized game. You take on Barry Steakfries who stumbles upon Professor Brain’s evil plot to take over time by sending his hordes of zombie minions into the past. Barry jumps into the portal to stop Professor Brains and finds himself faced against an army of zombies.
There is the single player campaign which takes you across five distinct locations with their own unique zombies. Once completed, Survival mode is unlocked (Left 4 Dead-style). The enemies vary enough to make the gameplay fun and challenging. Fight zombie dinosaurs from the prehistoric area, and decimate zombie mummies in Egypt. There are other settings such as the future and feudal Japan.
The game dolls out plenty of fun weapons such as flamethrowers, shotguns, miniguns, SMGs and frags. There is a bit of strategy involved with each level as you learn how to fight against the different types of zombies. You can literally lure the zombies into one area and take out 50 of them in a cluster-f*#$ to rack up more combo points. The chaining combo system can be Batman-like addictive. The game also features a more contemporary regenerating health system like modern shooters.
The graphics style is a throwback to old school games like Double Dragon, with cute little characters. Age of Zombie is probably the best Playstation mini title to come out to date. Weather you’re looking for a fun bite sized game to play on the go for the PSP or something to pass the time at home on the PS3, Age of Zombie should satisfy your needs.
Price: $4.99

Burn Zombie Burn! is also a good Zombie game on the PSN
March 9th, 2010
Too bad it has no trophies and is similar to Gay or Dead. I might download for PSP. 2D sucks.
March 9th, 2010
Oh yeah that looks fun as shit. Fuck what Ivan said, he obviously doesn’t know fun when he sees it.
Reminds me of some good ol fashioned old school fun. Games like Festers Quest and Blaster Master back on the nintendo.
Barry Steakfries though? C’mon thats a horrible name lol

We don’t all enjoy trash.
March 9th, 2010
@Ivan
“…is similar to Gay or Dead.”
Your only saying that because Mike said this “Once completed, Survival mode is unlocked (Left 4 Dead-style). ” in his write up.
This game probably only has 2 things in common with Left 4 Dead, guns and zombies, and that doesn’t necisarily mean its very similar.
March 9th, 2010
FahKinSuPah:
You are correct i said that because Mike wrote it. Either way the game is not for me that’s for sure. It has one gun thing guns.
March 9th, 2010
not every games is for everybody…
I personally didnt like Mass Effet 1, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and GTA4….and those are some well rated games
March 9th, 2010
Roca.:
Mass Effect is trash like th rest the only good game you posted there was GTA IV a bit.
March 9th, 2010
Game looks like fun, and maybe a lil frustrating.
March 9th, 2010
ivan will you stay an xbot for good? thanks in advance.
March 9th, 2010
just jokin
March 9th, 2010
“Age of Zombies” who needs L4D when we can have the same amount of fun for just $4.99
(jk)
now…where is the GoW3 review Mike? I think think a score of 5 will do the game justice
March 9th, 2010
SIX DAYS AND COUNTING!
I don’t care about any other games right now.
After GOW 3 I will look at others.
Oh except FF7 which I will get tonight. Any PS1 games support trophies?
That would be cool.
March 9th, 2010
Ah I’m excited. I just got FFXIII in not long ago. I opened it but haven’t started it up yet. I had to do some stuff online first…
This is gonna be interesting because I actually know so little about the storyline and characters of the game. I pretty much stayed away from as many plot details and screen shots as I could, cept for maybe that one video and a few shots posted up on the official sight.
Inside the box was a product registration card that says you get a special item by registering your copy of the game… I’m wondering what you get lol
I was going to check it out then post what it is here real quick but the SE site just doesn’t want to laod LMAO. I must not be the only person trying to register the game. Oh well maybe later lmao
Anyway I have my 2 liter bottle of Dr Pepper and my 360 controller so Iguess off i go lmao
March 9th, 2010
@FahKin
did you buy FF13 on the PS3 or 360? the PS3 version also comes with a Beta key for FF14
March 9th, 2010
My first 20mins with FFXIII…
Aww man this is going to take some getting used to..
When I first heard about the game I was very unsure of its futuristic setting. This actually has a huge impact on it for me… Starting off it just doesn’t have that FF feel that I am used to…
Also the combat.. wow it feels really hands off in a bad way. It has a similar concept to FFXII but its just alot more hands off than that. It feels less than combat and more like hitting the auto combat button and having the game do all the work for me.
So far Sazh doesn’t shut up either. He reminds me of Chris Rock in the Rush hour movies… only his voice isn’t as annoying as Chris Rocks.
Well this is just my opinion based off the first 20 mins or so that I played… Here is hoping that it gets better…
March 9th, 2010
@Roca
I got the 360 version. hearing about the beta key makes me wish I got the PS3 version lmao
Oh well.. No biggie.
Did you get it Roca?
March 9th, 2010
Hmm. I probably shouldn’t bother with FF7 then.
March 9th, 2010
@ncaissie
FF7 might not come with trophies but its an awsome game. Definately worth $10.
March 9th, 2010
@FahKin
not yet….I will pass by Gamestop late tonight
March 9th, 2010
@Roca
The first couple of chests in the game are big floating metal balls….
I hope every chest in the game is not like that…
Why can’t the chests look like chests for once?
Anyway FFXIII is quite different. So cfar I caan see why alot of people had mixed things to say about it… my opinions are mixed so far too..
Beautiful friggin game though, even on the 360 version. i can only imagine how it looks on the PS3.
March 9th, 2010
@FahKin
I really dont care what chests look like, as long as they dont do what they did with FF12
in order for you to get the best weapon in the game you have to “not open” one of the first chest in the game…….how the fuck am I suppose to know that in the first place??? I found out about it after I was 8hrs into the game
March 9th, 2010
“in order for you to get the best weapon in the game you have to “not open†one of the first chest in the game”
LOL
March 9th, 2010
I only had an hour to play this afternoon. I had to stop right as Snow took over.
I can’t really say anything about the game yet. But it certainly is a much faster paced battle system. I’m not so sure about the “auto-battle” right at the top of the menu though.
I’ll be able to play more later tonight.
March 9th, 2010
Wow so many people are buying this crappy game known as FFXIII.
My most wanted 2010 games are:
SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs my #1
God of War III
Heavy Rain
Medal of Honor
MAFIA II
The Agency
Max Payne 3
True Crime
DC Universe Online
The Agency
Free Realms

Chris Rock is in Rush Hour? And here I keep telling people it was Chris Tucker.
March 9th, 2010
FahKinSuPah,
Final Fantasy looks even better on the Ps3 but it’s still okay on the Xbox360. I got the game for the Ps3. The graphics are really cool.
March 9th, 2010
Psn:twilightaxis
March 9th, 2010
I just picked up FF13 and also pre-ordered FF14, Socom 4 and Last Guardian
yes guys Final Fantasy 14 is available for reserved at gamestop
March 10th, 2010
I could only find FF7 Crisis core for PSP. Is that the right one or a remake?
Any good? I started it and two big creatures killed me with one hit and the next thing I know I’m on the title menu. WTF? I have to reload the last save? What a stupid setup.
March 10th, 2010
@ncaissie
looks like Canada got screwed again! lol
Crisis Core is the “prequel” to FF7…….. you need to save you games and if you die then load your saved file to start at the the last save point!
Crisis Core is a amazing game btw, expect a epic but sad story

Sony PSP GO Bugatti Veyron Edition is a must-have

“in order for you to get the best weapon in the game you have to “not open†one of the first chest in the game…….how the fuck am I suppose to know that in the first place??? I found out about it after I was 8hrs into the game”
lmao yeah I know how that is. I found out like 60 hours into the game lol.
I really hate when game develpoment companies do shit like that.
Its just like the Dynasty Warriors series (Pre 6). Every character has a 4th level weapon but you have to do a very specific task to get it. Only problem is, you have no idea how to get it cause the game doesn’t tell you.
March 10th, 2010
FFXIII…
Things get better after you can use Paradigm Shift and you have access to the Crystarium.
Crystarium is how you level up in the game. Kinda like the sphere grid in X
I would like to hear some input on the loading times on the PS3 version. How are they? The 360 version had some great load times so far and that’s WITHOUT The game installed.
Oh and one more thing
Beware the Breshan Bass… omg lmao
March 10th, 2010
I have experienced two 3-6 load times (in between scenes)…thats about it!
here my thoughts about FF13 so far (first 20mins)
-CGI Graphics: no other game comes close to FF13 in this aspect, it look just as good as the BD movie of FF7 Advent Children
-In-game Graphics: good graphics, not the best I have seen on playstation
-Combat: not as good and as stratigized as FF12
-characters: characters models are as good as they come but the fact that that you can only one charater is a let down for the FF franchise.
-Map: as linear as a train track
March 10th, 2010
“Sony PSP GO Bugatti Veyron Edition is a must-have”
ivan wtf!?!? you just said in another article psp GO is shit and sony wer stupid for making it! y the fuck ar u promoting it now?
March 10th, 2010
@Liquid
Cause it’s got the PS logo on it. Ivan would promote a lump of coal if it had the PS logo on it.
@Roca
Load times are just great on both versions then huh? Thats awsome. Load times can really mess up an RPG.
Combat left alot to be desired early on, but once you got the paradigm shifts it did get better. at least IMO. Without the shifts the combat was pretty bland but they do add some flavor.
“Map: as linear as a train track”
lmao I second that but supposedly only the beginning of the game is like this. Guess we will see.
Currently in Vile Peaks
March 10th, 2010
@FaHkin
@BJ
did you guys noticed the similarities between FF13 and FF7.
-The game start in the middle of a revolution just like in FF
-You start the game on a train just like in FF7
-your first partner is a black dude with guns just like in FF7
-the first boss is a “scorpion” looking robot just like in FF7
-in FF7 you start the game with magic “Lighting” (green materia)…in FF13 you start as “Lighting” herself LOL
March 10th, 2010
Roca
yeah I did notice the similarities lmao… there was something else i noticed too.
The beginiing seuqence, this one part is shown very nriefly… the area around the train looks kinda like midgar meets balamb garden
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLDHSqqdN3M&feature=related
Go to 0:45. the arcetectural design looks like Blamab from 8, while the circular pattern and the tower like structures on the outside are reminisent of 7
March 10th, 2010
@Roca
how far are you?
Do you remember the Custom Sweeper enemies from FF7?
YOu basically end up fighting one of those in 13. I’m fighting it now lol. Its called the Dreadnought
March 10th, 2010
I just started playing the game late last night, im like 20-30mins into the game!
March 10th, 2010
@Roca
ah lol…
Combat will open up a bit and you might just start to like it. Paradigm shift is pretty slick and seems seemless. Everything changes over right away and it is a necessity. YOu will get your ass kicked if your not right on top of it lol.
I can see why it was said that this one is quite difficult.
March 10th, 2010
is it better than FF12?
FF12 combat system was the best, you had to make all your character were in sync! but the strategy from it was what made it so excellent
March 10th, 2010
12 was extremely cusomizable and deep.
In 13 its deeper than it appears. You have several roles such as Commando (warrior type), Ravager (Magic type), Medic (Healer), Synergist (buff), and Sabotour (debuff).
Certainc haracters perform different roles better, and also you have to unlock diff roles per character as time passes.
The beauty is that you have up to 6 Pradign sets at once.
cdurrently I have Lightning and Hope in my party. The starting set is called Slash and Burn (Commando and Ravager.) If i start to take too much damage i can switch to War and Peace, which is Commando and Medic. Once I am healed up again I can freely switch back to Slash and Burn. Or I could switch to Supersoldier (Commando and Synergist) and have Hope use buffs.
This is all done pretty quickly and seemlessly.
Also if you don’t make full use of it you will get your ass handed to you on a silver platter

FF13 is starting to piss me off…
March 11th, 2010
Roca.:
You got Gay$0FT to blame for that and square-Enix too.
March 11th, 2010
@Roca
So why is 13 pissing you off? Woulda been nice if you shared some details lmao
March 11th, 2010
Oh yeah… I forgot to mention that I made it to Disc 2 on FFXIII last night. Took me 9:32 of playtime. I have to say that I thought it would take abit longer then that. I’m wondering about the overall length of the game now.
Oh and I got my ass handed to me again several more times… WTF?!?!
In order to get the Eidolons you have to fight against them, but it isn’t a normal fight. Why the hell did they have to make these fights so damn hard?
First Shiva then Odin…. damn I got my ass kicked
March 11th, 2010
@FahKin
FF13 is pissing me off because:
-no limit breaks
-no being able to talk to other ppl
-controlling 1 character at a time
-battle systen is more of a button mashing than GoW
-no chests
-no shops
-no towns
-Full health on every battle
-a Retry option when you die
-cant select your party
-no many accessory like previos FF games
-turn-based battle system (real time would have been better for this type of game like FF12)
-and chocobos look like chickens now
March 11th, 2010
“I forgot to mention that I made it to Disc 2 on FFXIII”
I’m still on disc 1
March 11th, 2010
I knew FFXIII was going to suck all those sacrifices made to make the on Gaybox/Shitbox.
March 11th, 2010
@Ivan
FFXIII was already in deveopment for a long time before Xbox 360 development was added. In other words the concept and function of the game was pretty much already set.
@Roca
The full health and retry things are good cause this game can be quite tough ata times.
Have you even opened up the Paradigm Shifts and Crystarium yet?
March 11th, 2010
“Have you even opened up the Paradigm Shifts and Crystarium yet?”
yeah, it makes the battle system more enjoyable
March 11th, 2010
FahKinSuPah:
The PS3 version was complete the game could had be on PS3 a year or if not months earlier but due to the Microsoft check Square-Enix was force to delete content and change most of the game to fit on a crappy DVD DL disc.
March 11th, 2010
@Roca
It does make it more enjoyable. But it can still be very difficult lol.
How about the crystarium? Unlock that? If so what do you think about it? I think its a Sphere grid clone. Everything is locked and hidden though.
My Crystarium was on stage 3 and I had all the crystls taken up on Lightning and Hope so i couldn’t develope further lol. I had some CP just sitting there accumulating. Thankfully I just beat some giant ugly boss and unlocked Stage 4 yippee! lol
@Ivan
A Square rep said that stuff was deleted but it wasn’t because of the 360 version, it was to perserve the flow of the game.
PS. Tell your mom i will be over for dinner tonight around 8 ok?
Sincerely
FahKinYourMom
March 11th, 2010
mine is a level 1, every one is maxed out I just waiting to for level but I dont how to get there!
where is the FF victory song?? or those great boss battle soundtrack like in FF7 and FF12?
March 11th, 2010
@Roca
I kinda wish they gave you access to more of the crystarium myself lol. I was in the same boat, maxed and waiting for the next stage to unlock.
Awhile ago when everyone was complaining about the lack of leveling and all I had asked for some details but no one said jack, instead leaving us to fear the worse. I can’t say I really was afraid of what it would be, but the crystarium isn’t so bad.
I can understand the lack of MP, and I think it’s kinda cool…
And HP, Strength, and Magic are gained through the crystarium…
But what happened to defense and agility?
I miss the victory song too lol… and that awsome boss battle music
March 11th, 2010
@Roca
one of the most unexpected things I like about FF13 is the main menu lol. It’s kinda streamlined and well done.
I kinda like the effect they use when you go into a sub menu, like say Status, how they have the moving character image that turns static.
Kinda a small thing, but I like it.
March 11th, 2010
they comeout with some simple names for the character but then they confused you with these wierd names…..I dont even know what they are saying half of the time!
maybe they’ll explain things better later on…im 4hrs into the game btw
March 11th, 2010
so…..is there limit breaks or not?
March 11th, 2010
PlayStation Home new interface like XMB no more maps.
March 11th, 2010
I just preordered BFBC 2, Metro 2033 and Final Fantasy 13,
NOW this thread OMG, anything else left

You just wasted your money on horrible but really god awful games get a refund.
March 11th, 2010
@ roca
the closet thing to a limit break would probly be summoning an Eidolon and useing Gestalt mode, which is basicly like transformers on crack.
@toshi
don’t lisen to Ivan. FF13 is a good game and Ivan is a sack of shit.
BFBC2… looks pretty good. If it’s as good as the first or better I would defenitly check it out.
March 11th, 2010
FahKinSuPah:
And you a plain shit loser.
FFXIII suck BBC2 is nightmare of crap and you still trash. Lowlife loser.
March 12th, 2010
@Ivan
You probably never even played FFXIII or battlefield bad company so go fuck your PS3.
March 13th, 2010
And yes i did FFXIII for Xbox 360 and BBC2 also and they both suck especially BBC2 and 1.
March 13th, 2010
@Ivan
c’mon Ivan don’t bullshit us. FFXIII for 360? really? Thats a lie if I ever heard one.
Your so far up sonys ass that you wouldn’t play the 360 version when you can get it on PS3.
March 15th, 2010
FahKinSuPah:
Your an idito so just SFTU already stop being such little bitch. Yeah but but i can get if free plus I hate RPG dumb ass.
