First MAG DLC available March 25 for free
Free DLC, now that’s what I’m talking about. Zipper Interactive has announced details of the first DLC for MAG. It’s going to be available from March 25 and be completely free to all players worldwide. There’s even a little bonus being thrown in to commemorate the event.
MAG clearly isn’t for everyone, but those who love it really love it. And they’re about to be rewarded for their loyalty to the online-only shooter, with some free DLC.
According to a post on the Official Playstation Blog, the first MAG DLC, titled Trooper Gear Pack, will be available from March 25 for free. It includes a Flashbang Grenade, new guns and new uniforms. So nothing spectacular but it’s free, so stop complaining. From March 25 to March 28, players will also earn double XP after every match as a little thank you.
There is clearly going to be more MAG DLC in the future, and I’m sure that will be of the paid variety. But getting the free stuff out there first is a good strategy. It’s got to beat selling DLC that isn’t really DLC, right?

UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves has free DLC. Doesn’t any else care about ME2 after the first month. With games like like Heavy Rain White Knight Chronicles God of War III most Xbots are selling their consoles.

The bar is set pretty high for free dlc and it’s not
anything on the 360. Unreal tournament 3 and epic have launched a massive amount of free dlc for the ps3 version. And that’s excluding community mods and maps.

I’m looking for a good online FPS game to play against you and my bro. He has COD MW2. I don’t need 80 of them so don’t bother xbots LOL.
I like the free for all play where every man for himself. Is there an option like this in MAG or is it all team play? The price is only $5 difference and I’m sure I can convince my bro to pick up MAG.

I highly recommend Resistance 2 for its online multiplayer. Competitive > Death match, Team deathmatch, Core control like capture the flag, and defend bases.
Co-op in a party up to 8, with a story related to the main storyline.
As Roca said, uncharted 2 is great too. Don’t know about MW2, maybe I’m the only person who isn’t buying into the hype, skipped(but tried) MW1 as well.
Resistance FoM has full campaign co-op as far as I know(2 players and got local as well). Pretty sure of the local since I tried it, but not the co-op online.
Resident Evil 5 isn’t an FPS, but the co-op play was great.

Well, it seems Microsoft hasn’t been as busy as Sony has in buying out independent studios this gen, so probably not as many. Sony has been in the business a gen longer however, and dominated the market for 2 gens longer, so it makes sense. How many IP’s has Sony lost this gen that were at one time exclusive to it’s console?
Regardless, it doesn’t mean Microsoft or Sony is “better”. Just because 360 has about 100 more well reviewed titles overall, or PS3 has X number of IP’s doesn’t make either one especially “better” to gamers in general. They both have extensive libraries of quality titles. Enjoy.

Mmm… I said Sony not PS3 roca. Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy, etc. were all at one time exclusive on Sony’s machines. I think here it’s not so much the numbers as the magnitude of the franchises themselves. Regardless, my main point still stands: either console has an extensive enough quality library to keep any gamer busy for a long time, with each having enough quality exclusives to warrant play.

Both Evolution and Bigbig studios were acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment in September, 2007.

13 of those are story related. 1 for each chapter in the game.
There are 7 achievements just for developing the characters via the crystarium. 6 for maxing out roles and one for full developing evey character. Thats going to take awhile.

Actually, those 4 you mentioned do not represent the “most” out of the 20 identified. Beyond that, Mega Man 9 released for all three consoles this gen, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe also released this gen to generally positive reviews, and while Tony Hawk Ride was released just last year to negative reviews, it is still set to be released in Australia this month, and the franchise itself is hardly “dead”. PacMan? This game has sold for the last three decades and likely three more. It is a foundational icon of the industry itself.
Playstation is still a relative newcomer compared to Nintendo, and it has come nowhere near bringing the “most amount of great franchises in gaming history, there is no arguing that”.

Those were the first games I got for the 360. I bought them all with my console.
All 3 are exclusive, even though DR and SR have or will be getting multiplat sequals. But 360 still had it first.
N3 is getting a sequal this year and it is exclusive.
Lets see… Shadow Complex. Fucking awsome game available on LIVE. Wait, let me rephrase that. ONLY ON LIVE! That sounds better. Great game. if you like early Metroid games and Castlevania games than you should check out Shadow Complex.
Mass Effect 1 and 2. Several million gamers can’t be wrong.
Gears of War 1 and 2, and 3 whenever that comes out.
Yeah i’d say quite a few good franchises were started on 360.
Saint’s Row was the first game I beat on 360 and still one of my favs till this day. That includes SR2. great games. I’m surprised no one really talks about them here. The co-op mode in 2 is fucking awsome. Not to mention all the crazy ass humor in the SR series. I hope that humor never changes

One of my fav scenes from SR1. The main character only talks 4 times in the whole game but when he does its funny as shit.
Kingdom Under Fire is another Xbox exclusive series. We will be getting a sequal sometime soon to that as well. This one promises MMO like qualities and epic battles. Will be very interesting to see how that one turns out.

Listen… I might prefer my 360 over my PS3, but I won’t hesitate to open my mouth on something i disagree with on either side.
Playstation is currently on it’s 3rd generation.
PS1 > PS2 > PS3
Nintendo is currently on it’s 5th
NES > SNES > 64 > Gamecube > Wii
The playstation brand has been about quality games since PS1. Granted it’s taken awhile for PS3 to live up to expectations it is beginning to reach its potential as something more than a unit to watch BR movies on. Sorry, I would never watch movies on a gaming system. Just burns out your system even faster.
Anyway, Nintendo may have had 2 generations longer than Sony, but compare the last 3 side by side, as they were.

64 was still cartridge based.

64 was were Nintendo’s “Family” strategy began to alienate gamers as we grew up. We needed big boy toys and 64 couldn’t cut it.
64 lost the chance to have Final Fantasy because of nintendo’s stubborn insistance on sticking with carts. Epic fail
64 hits… Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario 64, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. SHIT Starcraft even came out on 64! Also we can’t forget the ever charming Conker’s Bad Fur Day LMAO. And I guess we can count the Banjo Kazooie games too. They weren’t half bad.
64 RUINED the Donkey Kong Country series. Not to mention the cheap cash in Diddy Kong Racing…

PS2 vs Gamecube
Gamecube was not a bad system… but not enough good games. Mario Sunshine, Another legend of zelda game… A rerelease of Skies of Arcadia was very good. Resident Evil 4 was great, but a better version came out on PS2. What stood out the most for Gamecube to me was Metroid Prime 1 and 2. Simply put.. fucking awsome. The remake of Resident Evil 1 was fucking awsome, can’t deny that. I believe we also got RE Zero too. FF Crystal Chronicles is worthy mention too. Not bad, but would have been better if not for the damn GBA gimmick and having to carry around a fucking bucket.
A great rerelease of Metal gear solid.
Needed some more RPGs though..

So anyway, Carl, my point is this
Sony had greated a great system in its first generation, and further cemented it in its second generation, with the PS2.
I don’t care if your an xbot or not, but Sony ruled over Nintendo for 2 straight console generations and it may just do so for a third.
I don’t care that Wii sold 66 million units and that 2/3 of Wii owners bought Wiiplay. We all know that the Wii barely has any respect among true gamers.
In my eyes only a small handful of games for the Wii are worth playing, if that.
Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime trilogy, Metroid Other M (it comes out in June), Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess… and thats about it. At least until another real mario game and another Zelda comes out.
Oh and No More Heroes is worth at least renting. Game cracked me the fuck up.

Sometimes I think that some people here don’t take me seriously enough at times, but I know that at least you, Roca, understand how I feel about games.
I may prefer my Xbox 360, but I am a true gamer and if a game is good I am going to want to play it. regardless of the system.
I don’t play that fanboy bullshit. It’s a waste of time. Anyone who wants to be so narrowminded is just going to miss out on incredible experiences on other systems.
I have owned nearly every system, cept a few like Atari jaguar, 3D0, CDI, NEO GEO, Saturn. No other company has kept me happy, content, and occupied quite like Sony.
I still see more room for improvment in PS3 and more and more games are comming out that I want. It has so much potential. I just wish more RPGs would come out for it. It pisses me off that PS1 and PS2 were FULL of RPG’s and PS3 has shit. Demon’s Souls, Valkyria Chronicles and Folklore are awsome though. I need to get White Knite Chronicles.
I spent a huge portion of my life playing PS1 and PS2. I just have this huge collection of games for both of those systems that put my large collection of 360 games to shame lol.
I’m now finding out that some of my PS1 games have suddenly become worth a little bit of money LMAO. Talk about the PS1 being gold lmao. Even some of my PS2 games are worth money now.. Didn’t know that video games were like the stock market lmao

I had gotten SOTN for free years ago… It was the original copy, not the greatest hits one. I had beaten it once. And a couple years ago I ended up selling it on Amazon for like $40.
Then I had bought it on Xbox live, which was like $10 lol
Then a friend gave me SOTN GH version lmao, which i sold for $35 on amazon.

I love the PS3 because of the all the awesome games the PS1 and PS2 have brought, also because I know Sony wont relying on 3rd party companies to develop AAA games for them since they have a massive amount of First party studios….I had a Wii for like 3 months, played Zelda for a while..then I got annoyed but its waggle/motion controls so I sold it and got the game for the Gamecube. I have been thinking about getting a 360 becuase there are some great games I will like to play, but unfortunally there are only a selected few…but things like propietary peripheral, XBL fee, no physical hi-def player, no BD disc for games, and no wifi have kept me away from getting one..and also the fact that there are too many games coming out for the PS3 alone that I dont see myself having some free time to play some 360 games.
now here is my question, is there a specific reason why you prefer the 360 over the PS3? (besides the few early RPGs on it) my quiestion comes in because I know you got FF13 for the 360, so is there anything specific about the 360 that you like more? or is it because you want to rank up more achievements…
btw, he doesnt take anything you say seriously?

I think i asked the same and he said one is plugged in and the other isn’t so it was more of an convenience thing as he used 360 more. Maybe I’m wrong.
If I got a 360 I would not pay for Live. I’d play it for the few exclusives that are SP games and thats all. All other MP games would happen on the PS3. I don’t believe MS provided enough of a service to pay for. Maybe if all their first party games supported dedicated servers they’d have a legitimate argument, as I used to pay for those when I was in a PC clan.
I’m surprised neither Sony or MS did a paid service for dedicated servers. Controlling the server completely. Always being able to have priority on it. This would be ideal for clans.

I also don’t find cross game chat to be an appealing feature. If I’m playing a game I don’t want people bothering via chat to play what they want to play. I ignore those messages as they are now. If I’m playing a game, I’m playing that for a reason and would be playing the game those friends are playing if I felt like it from the beginning.

I’ve had my 360 since Oct 5, 2006. At the time PS3 wasn’t out yet. It was a month before PS3 launched. At the time several games had already been released for 360 that had really caught my eye. I had played a little bit of Dead Rising over the summer inside gamestop and I just fell in love with the crazy shit you can do in the game.
Saints Row was another game, which was an Xbox exclusive at the time, mostly cause PS3 wasn’t released yet lol, which could also be said about Dead Rising.. but anyway.
Those 2 games, plus Ninety Nine Nights were the games I bought with my 360.
I was already paying alot but the PS3 was just too expensive. I don’t usually buy consoles when they first come out. PSP was the only exception to that.
I didn’t get my PS3 until Novemeber o8. So I had already had my 360 for 2 years at that point. Being an avid gamer I had amassed alot of games for 360 in that time frame.
When I bought PS3 it was more of an impulse buy when I bought it. I had gotten a nice little credit line with Amazon lmao. I had bought MGS4 and Resistance.
Roca, if you ever decide to get a 360 there are definately games worth playing. Gears of War is a great series and Mass Effect is good. Shadow Complex is definately a must play.

Propietry peripheral? You mean the hard drive huh? That shit don’t bother me. I only had a 20GB model but I bought a 60Gb HDD and borrowed a transfer kit. I then gave my 20GB HDD to my girlfriend who had just gotten an Arcade unit lmao.
If you get a 360 just get the one with the 120GB and you won’t have any problems.
XBL fee… it’s really not as bad as it seems. It’s worth if you pay month to month. Just by the XBL 12 month card from Amazon. cheaper that way.
hi-def player? bluray? I don’t care about that. First I don’t play any movies on my game systems. Waste of system life… I laughed at all the people who bought a PS3 to watch BR movies on. What a waste. Lack of bluray for games doesn’t bother me. So I had to get up off my ass twice to switch discs for FFXIII. Didn’t bother me. Besides, BR has it’s disadvantages too, like seek time, which is why some games have mandatory installs.
Oh yeah speaking of installs. I fucking hate them on the PS3. PS3 is NOT a computer. It is a game console. Not only do you have to download games but you have to install them too. You can’t do anything when you install stuff either. At least on my PC I can surf the web while I wait.
When I got the PS3 I opened it up and found a nice joke left by Sony. A 4 foot long USB charger cord lol. Who sits within 4 feet of their TV when they play? USB cords are cheap as shit… Sony could have gave a 10ft cord instead lol.
I am an achievement junkie. I admit it lmao. I only have 34K gamerscore and I need more lol.

My set up is a mess here lmao. I have my old 19″ tube TV on a stand, with my newer 26″ LCD right in front of it lol. The LCD is basically anchored to the older TV so it won’t go anywhere. On top of the older TV is a 2 shelf unit that has the PS3 on the Bottom shelf and my 360 on the top shelf.
On either side of the TV i have about 50 million DVDs, CDs, and video games from several systems.
So yeah things are quite a mess lmao.
Anyway, my 360 has just been set up for the longest time and I don’t have any open power slots to put in my PS3. I figure I will get a few more PS3 games and then give the 360 a rest so I can catch up on some PS3 exclusives.
So yeah… graphics are not the most important thing in games, although they can help.
Most multiplay games show little to no difference between versions. Cept for in odd cases like Bayonetta, and we all know the difference of the movies in FFXIII between PS3 and 360 versions. It was still beautiful on 360 though.
Getting to play as the Joker in some challenge rooms in Batman is not a big enough reason for me to chose the PS3 version either.

PS3 still needs some more damn RPGs! lmao. FFXIII is good but there is also alot of good RPGs on 360. Lost Oddyssey was great. I am still dissapointed in the drop in RPGs on PS3 compared to PS2. In my book that was a big mistake by Sony. All the japanese support they get and we don’t have jack. Getting ports of 360 timed exclusives dont count. Eternal Sonata, Enchanted Arms, Star Ocean.. they don’t count lol. Sure its good for PS3 owners who haven’t had the chance to play them, but I already own them for 360 lol. Cept for Star Ocean… My friend rented it then threw it at me. Then I tried it and almost threw up lol.
Oh back to the “propietary peripheral” thing… Anyone remember when Sony put out an update that prevented 3rd party controllers from working on the PS3? That was a fucking mess.
Will a standard USB mic work on a PS3? Is so than I am in luck cause I have a few USb mics.

I doubt that FFXIII will be able to keep my attention much longer cause all the shit you can do after you beat the game is crazy… enemies are too strong and i have to level up way too much lol. I beat the game and put an extra 10 hours into it so far… and I feel like i am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Getting my ass kicked in 13 isn’t as fun as getting it kicked in Demon’s Souls lol

PS3 doesnt use any propietary peripheral. you can use any blue tooth head set, any wired PC head set, any USB keyboard, any USB memory stick to store saved files, any internal 2.5″ HDD, any USB Mic, any USB wifi add-on (if you need wireless N). any regural computer or AC power cord
Trophies are more rewarding than Achiviements, ask oldschool who is a achievement/trophy whore and he preferes Trophies, or here what IGN has to say about it:

also, install on the PS3 is not something to cry about, a small percentange of games uses mandatory install and when you are able to upgrade HDD this is hardly an issue.
and you might not think BD for games make a difference but just look at the comparation of FF13 on the 360 vs the PS3, there is a huge differece. Lost Planet 2, Rage, FF13 got getting content cut out of the game because of the 360. a full uncompressed FF13 game on the 360 would have been 7-8 discs (big difference) and then we have titles like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, GoW3, GT5, Heavy Rain and MGS4…titles that would have been impossible to make at the level they are right now without bluray.
I will never pay for online, if Sony charge for PSN then I will never play a online game over PSN…thats my issue with XBL, why would I pay for something that is free on PC, DS, Wii, PSP, PS2, and PS3?

I read the article where it says about trophies.. They really are just the same thing as achievements.
The only difference is that instead of getting a “rather arbitrary point total” You get a trophy. It’s the same thing. Same EXACT thing.
Your getting robbed twice. The robber just decided to wear a different mask the second time around.
Trophies and Gamerscore just add up to the same thing.
“look at me! I’ve done this, that, and the other thing.”
One isn’t any more rewarding than the other. It’s not like you get special stuff just for unlocking eiher.
At least now developers are starting to implement other stuff into games like unlocking themes or avatar items.

What pissed me off about PSN is that you can only demo a small portion of titles available.
I wanted to check out Pain cause it looks fun as shit but there was no demo for it. No way I was paying $10 just to find out if I didn’t like it or not
If it was on 360 I would of been able to play a demo.

how is it the same thing when the trophy systam is based on Platinums trophies….PS3 users dont care about how many trophies (point) the have, its all about the platinums, and when you get one it gives you the same rewarding feeling as when you beat Ruby Weapon in FF7. also Trophies boots up your PSN level, which adds more of a RPG elements to the trophy system
Trophy = you gained XP, level up, beat a boss (platinum)
Achievement = gained XP, gained XP, gained XP and so on, no as rewarding as trophies

Plats are usually rewarded for unlocking all trophies in a game.
Saying i have 5 plats would be the same as saying I have 100% 5 xbox games.

here is a example about the differece the Trophy ‘system’ vs the Achievement ‘system’
lets compared 2 users on both system
User A = has played a bunch of games and have completed 10 games 100% on both system
User B = has played more games than User A, and dont have any game 100% completed
- – - 360 – - -
User A = 30,000
User B = 30,000
- – - PS3 – - -
User A = 1000 Trophies, 10 Plats, Level 18
User B = 1000 Trophies, 0 plats, Level 10
while they are the same trophies/achievements on both system, the Trophy ‘system’ offer much more depth and it is much more rewarding as it is weighted in 3 different section and you have to boost up 3 different categories

Trophies are SO much more addictive and rewarding! I’ve got 19 but soon I’ll have 23, got 3 lined up (GOW3, Heavy Rain and Dante’s Inferno). Achievements don’t do it for me, you don’t get anything when you unlock all of ‘em for a game. No ‘well done’ trophy(which the plat is). Plats are just so much more rewarding.

It’s a matter of opinion. Plats for 100%, or still knowing you completed a game 100% regardless of whether or not you have an extra trophy/achievement (sticker/button haha). Some people need/want that, some people don’t care. Just as some people don’t care about trophies or achievements and just want to play the game (roca used to be in this category, especially when Sony didn’t have them, and even later last year, but I guess he changed his mind over time).
It’s an extra carrot, some people buy into it, others don’t.

That’s understandable, but if you take into account “all gaming history”, what is still on the market this gen, what franchises have lasted longer than one gen, etc. Sony isn’t there, largely due to it being so young compared to the existing title holder. As much as I like achievements it is still secondary to gameplay experience.
There are some moments though when they make you think outside the box.
In other words when a developer gets creative with achievements. Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is just one game that comes to mind. Some of the achievements in that game were quite humorous.As stupid as it sounds “Take 5″ for pausing the game for the first time had me laughing. It was certainly not normal and not csomething you would expect from an achievement.
What I hate are impossible achievements or achievements that would go so far out of their way… What comes to mind is Dynasty Warriors 6. I have all but 2 achievements. Chaos Master, which is beat every level on Chaos difficulty. This is… unbelieveeably hard. And the other one is max out all characters to level 50, which takes a long time.
Thats kinda the same thing with FFXIII… several of the achievements are really far out there.. like maxing out all characters.. thats gonna take a long time… Everything else should just fall into place after that

Trophies/achievements, it’s still a matter of opinion. Fahkin prefers achievements, as do I and Harry.

…you would understand I wasn’t “dooming” Sony in any fashion, but in fact still preferring it over Nintendo even though Nintendo has the most enduring and great franchises to date. But go to any major credible gaming website, you know, the same ones you valued so much for their reviews of Uncharted 2, and you will find Nintendo dominates the top ten franchises of “all gaming history”.

When I read that I thought about something..
It’s hard to beat a pack-in.
I remember back when I had first gotten the NES, it had included Mario, Duckhunt, and Trackmeet.
Sega did the same thing with Sonic on the Genesis…
Wii does it with Wii Sports…
Probably one of the reasons mario has done so well over the years is the huge number of people who had bought either a NES or a SNES with a mario game that came bundled with it.
Bundles or Pack-ins are a great way to move units too. Xbox 360 has done it consistently now for several years.

please, you really know nothing about this topic, after the SNES nintendo has brought little to gaming. playstation is still going strong! FahKin made a good and well explained break down of how Nintendo History has gone. like I said before, Playstation has been gold since day 1.
and yes nintendo might the “most enduring franchises” to date, but thats just because they have been in the industry long. but the fact is that Playstation has “brought and revived” more great fanchises than any other console to date.
and you prefer achievements because you got your PS3 very late, have you gotten both system the same day you would have gone with Trophies

Nintendo is the true sales king. While Nintendo has releases little I’m interested in for…well, the last decade, You can’t argue the sales. Sony as well. Who would have thought that the Ratchet and Clank Franchise has only been outsold by Halo Franchise by 5 million.

I actually find it hard to believe that either Carlb or Fahkin would prefer achievements to trophy’s. Especially with both their RPG background.
The similarities:
Both create a point system based on the difficulty of the A/T. With Live, that system is tied to your gamerscore which constantly goes up based on those A’s you earned.
The Difference:
The Level system…. Without the level system the two would be practically identical. The Level system adds the RPG feel that Achievements lack.
How would you guys like it (Fahkin, Carlb) that while playing RPG’s, you never leveled up, but just kept generating more XP, with no purpose.
Thats the biggest difference, and why trophies are better.

Seriously?
OK.
Sometimes you can earn a platinum trophy for completing the game 100% and then the developer adds trophies at a later date with paid content or an update.
They can’t force you to buy that extra content and make you lose your rightfully earned platinum because of stuff like that.
BTW..I’m sure the exact same thing happens on Live so it’s really a moot point and pathetic that it was even brought up.

As i said achievements/trophies are secondary to the actual games anyway.
In the end all they are is either a testament to your love and dedication of gaming or just an indication of not having a life.
For me it’s definately a little bit of both.

Of course they are. I just believe as a fan of RPG’s you’d prefer the trophy method over the achievements method. While being similar enough one feels more rewarding.
I’ve only received one platinum. I don’t play for that but sometimes they make completing the game extra rewarding. I prefer if games didn’t stray too much from usual content to create trophies.
“Finding all recordings” sounds good while “shooting someone a certain amount of times with a specific gun in the head” is tedious. I tend to stay away from the tedious trophies.

besides the level system that makes the trophies system feel more like a RPG experienced, you can also go in depth and say:
-Trophies = XP
-Level = Charater level
-Platinum = Toughest boss
-Gold = Key items
-Silver = Rare items
-Bronze = currency

If we all had time machines we could live wonderful lives, and apparently you think you are a mind reader, but alas, it is not true. As it is, after giving trophies a fair shot, I find they don’t really add anything at all above achievements that is important to me.
I can see how phranc and you enjoy it thoroughly as a type of RPG experience, but I’ll stick to the RPG’s for leveling up. It is still relatively new for PS3 owners though, so I can see how you three are so enamored with it as it has been standard for so little time on PS3. It’s the same thing we were trying to tell you before PS3 had trophies, but you wouldn’t listen back then. I think now you are beginning to see for yourselves.

Playstation has brought and revived more great franchises than any other company…that’s a fact and not a opinion
Trophies offers much more besides collecting points, thats a fact not a opinion, If you compare them side by side you will see trophies offer much more.

It is really ashame that nintendo started to turn away from true gamers at that point…
Mario, Metroid, and Legend of Zelda are all worth playing but there isn’t much else past that. These 3 franchises are tried and true and many of us have fond memories of these games while growing up.
All 3 of them also started on NES.
Donkey Kong Country started on SNES.. and sadly also died with a failed 64 attempt. Rare is now with Microsoft, and hasn’t done much of anything in the last few years. Although playing Perfect Dark again on XBLA is a fun trip down memory lane. Killer Instinct.. also Rare isn’t it?
N64 had Conquer’s bad fur day. Great game. Can’t remember anything else on the N64 besides Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, both by Rare. We already know Rare’s fate. Oh yeah… Super Smash Bros. started on 64. Not my type of game though.
Gamecube… Pikmin. Metroid Prime 1 and 2, which are definately my fav GC games. Prime is worth mentioning because not only is it a great series but it is also a different direction compared to previous Metroid games. Originally people were pissed at the idea but when it came out it turned out to be great. Another Zelda game… which was also released on Wii at the same time.
I’m not even going to go into Wii… Metroid Prime 3, and the Trilogy is all i can think about
Bottom line for Nintendo is that the last 3 generations have been shitty. Nintendo used to be all about quality.. well they still are but not as they should be.
Their consoles are well made and can take a beating, but besides that they have barely any games.

MGS4 was a pack in but out of 4.5 mil copies sold a very small portion of that was from the PS3 pack in. If you remember the MGS4 PS3 was VERY limited numbers, so to me, that doesn’t count.
Also because, as I said before, MGS4 is a fucking masterpiece of a game and it deserves more than 4.5 million sales. Every PS3 owner should own it. That’s not something I say lightly. It really is a work of art.

Nice picks fahkin… but you know, the original point was “all time” which would include NES and SNES. So much more started there and still endures to this day. It’s kind of neat to see how roca tried to avoid them by only mentioning N64, Cube, and Wii though.

Sony only made 70K PS3 MGS4 bundles for the US.
Day 1 MGS4 sold 1.3 mil worldwide. That includes all the US bundles. It drived the sale of PS3 hardware overall too.
Japan didn’t get as many bundles as we did. I think it’s like 140K worldwide combined.
That’s not a lot of bundled PS3+MGS4 bundles compared to the 4.62mil (updated sales number) MGS4 sold worldwide.

While there are some games worth playing for those systems there really are no returning franchises, besides Smash Bros and Metroid Prime.
Smash Bros debuted on N64. I can’t name any other franchises that Nintendo debuted on 64 that became worthwhile
Metroid Prime Trilogy started on Gamecube with the 3rd in the series being on Wii. The first 2 games also were redone for Wii with full motion controls.
Metroid is a long standing series though, starting on NES, and Prime is just another chapter in that series.
Pikmin… 2 games on gamecube and the first one was redone for wii with motion controls… They could have at least done BOTH pikmin games and put them on 1 disc.. Pikmin was new and interesting… But aside from the remake it has not shown anything else on Wii and a sequal has yet to be announced.
Roca’s point was that the majority of Nintendo’s enduring franchises originated on either NES or SNES.

Shining Force came out for Genesis first, not Playstation.

haha, the first Soul Calibur was on the Playstation 1 (I owned) before it was called Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast. it was called Soul Blade or Soul Edge depending the region

PS2 had 1608, but it doesn’t mean anything.
I think you would be very hard pressed to argue 700 playstation “franchises” as the “greatest of all time” whereas 9 times out of ten on every major “greatest video game franchises of all time” list on the web you will find Nintendo dominates the upper category, and Playstation filling in the cracks somewhere behind them.

I may love Mario, Zelda, and to a lesser degree Metroid, but they can keep their Pokitmans and other BS.
They make quality games but I can’t help feeling like I just grew up and away from them. And the funny thing is I love some games that some would consider childish. R+C and LPB are great games.
