Is God Of War III too short at 8 hours?
It’s reportedly possible to complete God Of War III all the way through to the end in a little over 8 hours. And that’s on the first play through rather than a second or third run when finishing quickly is the only goal. Is that too short for a triple-A release or is it clearly a case of quality over quantity.
No one is doubting God Of War III is a fine game, but some are arguing that it’s a little too short, or at least that the stated gameplay time of 12-13 hours minimum is crap. Brave New Gamer claims to have finished the game in 8 hours and 35 minutes.
I love getting my teeth into a nice long-lasting game every now and again – the Final Fantasy games being my ultimate treat – but generally speaking I’m too busy to spend hours playing the same game, especially as there are now more games that I want to play being released now than ever before.
So I’m not too bothered that God Of War III may be a short but sweet experience. And there’s obvious replay value there. However, I’m guessing others may take a different view.

I’m sure this whole 8 hour gameplay myth was shown to be bullshit? Ain’t it at the very least 12 hours? When that website said thy completed it in 8 hours, didn’t the GOW3 tester come out and say that’s bull? I’ll find out for myself this weekend, got the game but been working. I’m pretty quick at games anyway.

I find it ironic that people complain about gameplay hours. What is the point of BUYING a game if you only intend on rushing through it JUST to beat and boast online about how good you are!?? That’s why our economy has businesses like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, etc.
Idiots are wasting their money if they rush through games just to beat it. I’m a subtle gamer. When I pay my hefty 60 dollars for a game, it’s to enjoy every aspect of it. Otherwise I would be more frugal and invest my money in savings.
Sorry that’s just a notch in my belt that tends to annoy me. Ha, I remember one of my friends said that he beat Dead Space in 4 hours on the hardest difficulty. LMFAO now you know that’s total bull *censored*

I’ve seen worse though…
Several years ago one of my buddies got married. His wife took over his PS2 and she put 155 hours into FFX. She had the Sphere grid like completely maxed out lol.

I usually retain the experience and do not feel the need to repeat it, choosing instead to move on to the next new experience. For me it is not worth the purchase.

doesn’t equal play time as it doesn’t registers death and starts back up at the last check points time.
The art director said it was tested at 12-13 hours and so did Adam sessler who has been playing games longer than all of us.

It is 9-10 hours on easy the first run and I didn’t take any time to explore. True this one is a lot more action then puzzle but still epic. It doesn’t feel short when you play it. Also you only run through it once to gain the speed trophy which I don’t recall seeing in this.
Roca is playing on Hard and he will be lucky to finish by Christmas.

I owned over 54 PS3 games (retail disc alone) and I play them all from time to time, speciall when I have friends over and we want to play some Nazi Zombies, or maybe get our asses owned in Resistance 1&2 Super Human mode, etc.
also when there are a bunch of friends over we always end up playing Mario Kark Double Dash, Mario Party 6 or Mario Strickers or Smash Brothers on the Gamecube
I also play my PS1 games, after I beat FF7:Crisis Core I went back to replay FF7 to get the story right, and everything made much more sense. (hearing Aeris talking about her Ex “Soldier 1st class” boyfriend made alot more sense now)

The only negative thing I see with the game is the fact that they placed the buttons on the same spots each time (triangle on the top, X on the bottom, ect..) and it makes it easier. I liked the randomness of GOW 1 & 2.

One thing I Loved about this game was that most cut scenes were rendered live and you could keep moving and kicking ass as it played.

That’s not entirely true. When i fought the Trolls with the Iron spiked balls, each QTE was slightly different. Especially if you get it wrong one time, it will hit you up with a different one.

Carlb doesn’t buy PS3 games. He only rents them. Aside from owning MGS4 and InFamous as they came with the system. Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and GOW collection didn’t warrant a purchase.
I don’t recall if he bought or rented Bayonetta and Darksiders but both were played on the 360 even though the PS3 version of DS proved to have less graphical issues.

I don’t mean the sequence. Just where they place the buttons. The triangle was always on the top of the screen, the x was on the bottom of the screen, the square was on the left and the O was on the right.
If you use your peripheral vision you don’t need to memorize the button layout on the controller. I stall get the layout wrong between the square and circle.

Length of a game doesn’t determine quality. I’ve already played more time in Assassins Creed 2 than the highest possible projected time is for GOW3 and I’ll tell you right now….AC2 can’t hold Kratos’s jock strap. GOW3 is such a better game in so many different ways.
One thing you’ll notice is AC2 is a sandbox type game. SB type games are always longer due to the traveling and the fetch missions.

Remember I said…Rely on Live. When people talk about SC they don’t bother mentioning the online stuff. Fable is another one that doesn’t rely on online. One can argue Crackdown as well but I gave that one to you.
Lets face it. Not too many games that need to be played on Live this year.
Gears isn’t coming out until April and if Gears 3 online is as bad as Gears 2 online was they might as well scrape it from the release altogether.

in reality I would have been done with Titan mode gow3, but, like others have stated, not only am I NOT rushing through, I’ve died like 80 times on this mode lol, its pretty damn tough.

There’s info floating around that Gears of War 3 will be out in April 2011. As the rumor goes, MS wants to avoid over saturation during the Holiday season with having Halo Reach, Fable 3 and Natal all coming out so close to one another.

Oh before I start, no, im not a fanboy tho I do like the ps3, facts are stated below (READ BEFORE FUCKING REPLY OR ELSE I’LL FUCKING GO AFTER YOUR FUCKING CHIHUAHA AND MAKE HIM PLAY HALO ODST FOR THE REST OF ITS LIFE).
I had an XBOX 360, why? I couln’t afford a PS3. I played GoW1 and 2, SADLY and really, SADLY, to find out myself ending it in 5hours and 30minutes, and guess what? Dr Mario Tetris was 100x better and more fun than GoW1-2.
I gave the X360 another chance, bought Halo 3, I was a bit, you know, excited.
……. M$ did it again, game was so fucken predictable, hell, since halo 1, all the fucken endings are due on a fucken car and the only thing you need to fucken do is to fucken drive towards a fucken ship to fucken escape from some fucken aliens that their aiming was fucken bad it was not even funny.
Last chance I gave to the X360 was the online “hype” of Live… fuck that piece of mother fucking crap, I cant fucking describe the amount of fucken kiddos that all they did was to SCREAM and sing while playing….
So you wanna know what I did with my “UBER X360 BEST SYSTEM EVER”? do you? I think i’ll save that, I don’t want any fanboy to have a heart attack.
So… my great and big conclusion was to buy the ps3, i was sceptic about it, I mean… anyways, bought and after that, I bought one game which series (Anime & Manga – not fillers) I enjoy, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm… and let me tell you…. bill gates can SUCK my left nut, with all his big boxes full of crap.
The game was EPIC, great graphics, no load times, believe me, xbox 360 has so many load times that you can go, fuck your gf twice, fuck your best gf twice, sleep for about 3 hours and finally, get to play 3 minutes before reaching another scene…
Enjoyed every piece of it
Then I acquired more games like LBP, loved it, PES2010, AMAZING, Borderlands, bah… 50%/50%, so the only exclusive I had was NUNS & LBP until TODAY, now I have GOW3, I haven’t played it yet, but my point is… being 35% of the games I have, multiplatform (PES & borderlands) BETTER than the same ones on the Xbox 360, I find myself to be FUCKEN HAPPY.

I am at 10hours now on titan(hard) mode fighting Zeus.
I was exploring a lot, but also died a lot because of that(100+ times), so none of that time was counted either, it would be over 12hours if it was counted.
Will be playing it on Chaos mode next and it will probably take me longer to get through it.
Best place for the 1000 hit combo trophy? I wasn’t trying to get it so.

Actually, with GameFly, they let you keep any game as long as you desire. It seems like more than a few of you, if not most, have already beaten the game itself, and are now just playing for trophies, within 4 days of it’s actual release. I’m similar in that I usually beat games without rushing within the first week, and this with a busy work schedule, extensive travel, and social life.
To each his own, but if instead I can spend $4-$6 a week by renting instead of $60 per game, I effectively save myself anywhere from $2000-$3000 per year, and I can rerent any game I strongly feel the need to play again. With this I can afford to play all the new games I want at anytime, and I won’t feel nearly as bad if I got a game I did not like. It’s the same time period, and you aren’t going to play any more within it regardless of whether you buy games or rent them, so it makes sense to me.

Actually, GameFly has to pay extra for the privilege of renting out the discs, they need to purchase more depending upon the title’s popularity, and they have to replace discs over time.
Roca, I apologize for the “hypocrite” comment above, it was a cheap shot and wrong for me to do. CAG is actually a good site to find great deals on games, and I still buy them new on occasion for full price.

I would rather play a short 8-12 hour-to-finish game that is an “awesome ride” and mind numbingly memorable its “replay value” will keep on flashing on your mind days upon days long after yo finished it. It gives you a “satisfaction guaranteed smile on your face every time you are reminded of it THAN 60 hours of mediocrity.
This is the magic of video game VISUALS that adds tremendous value and quality to PS3 exclusives!

Grandia on PS1 is much more endearing to my heart than Chrono Cross.
As for visuals, RE Code Veronica and Soul Calibur were truly epic moments, then RE4 on GameCube. Nothing has topped that magnitude of improvement upon what was already available at the time since. Today’s improvements are still there, but they are much more subtle.

Jack Tretton just confirmed that they would be a KILLZONE 3 but it won’t be at this year’s E3 conference. Now all we need is inFAMOUS 2 and Resistance 3 since UNCHARTED 3 is coming for sure.
According to Jack Tretton, Sony’s show at GDC was “only the frosting on the cake” and the most delicious part is yet to come, saying: “I’m saving the batter for E3. We will absolutely bring the heat.”
Cake metaphors aside, Tretton hints that there will be plenty for Sony to be excited about.

GOW III is great game. Is it short? Well it depends. If you are GOW fan (like myself) who has played GOW I & II, back in those PS2 days (and you probably played it through more than three times per game), then GOW III is short and a piece of cake. The reason is that most GOW fans are quite familiar with controls, the game play, puzzles, etc. The only thing that made the game diffcult to me was the visuals – so beautifully done – GREAT!, that it was sometimes a “good” distraction just enjoying the visuals. So for me the game was really about the story and “possible” final chapter of Kratos. For newcomers, this game will be challenging and nerve rackinig at some points. If have not played GOW I or II, then I suggest you play those first. The Sony Santa Monica team really set the bar for all other games to come in the industry. PS3 ridding high on Mt. Olympus. (And is this really the end of Kratos? Once you guys beat the game, there is a scene after the credits, which makes you wonder – is it really over?)
