Xbox 360 to finally get USB storage support
Microsoft’s hard drive strategy with the Xbox 360 has been a sore subject for most gamers. The company prevents gamers from using off-the-shelf hard drives. It seems like the company will be giving gamers some flexibility with USB storage support.
According to some documentation obtained by Joystiq, Microsoft is planning on releasing an update that will allow Xbox 360 owners to use a USB storage device. Gamers will be able to store saved game files, downloadable games, backups and more.
As Joystiq mentions, not only will this update bring a feature that has existed on the PS3 since launch, but also offer a solution to Xbox 360 Arcade owners with only 512MB.
Unfortunately, Microsoft is placing a 16GB limit to the size of the external USB storage the Xbox 360 will recognize. In other words if you have a 200GB external USB storage, your Xbox 360 will only recognize 16GBs of it. This is Microsoft’s way of keeping its highly profitable first party Xbox hard drive business alive. The smallest Microsoft Xbox hard drive to come out is 20GB and ranges up to 250GB.

Please, somebody hack Microsoft’s headquarters and implant a worm to erase all of their data files just for revenge. I’ve had ENOUGH of their crap! They deserve the WORST! I have never EVER known any company in history to piss me off so much as Microsoft.
I absolutely hate this company. They are the prime example of why piracy exist. If I didn’t switch majors I would hack those assbags myself.

I would to hack Microsoft especially the Xbox Live system and post everyone’s info public and also erase every account for ever. Also taking the whole servers offline and deleting everything that would fucking epic. Also it will cool hacking Bing. I would enjoy watching Bing replace with PlayStation Red Ring e74.

“Unfortunately, Microsoft is placing a 16GB limit to the size of the external USB storage the Xbox 360 will recognize.”
Fortunately, game saves only take up KB’s not GB’s.
“In other words if you have a 200GB external USB storage, your Xbox 360 will only recognize 16GBs of it.”
In other words if you have a 200GB external USB storage (or 2TB for that matter), your XBox will recognize every bit of it if you format it into 16GB partitions. Simple.

Actually, it looks more like 32GB, as it will only recognize two devices. Ah well, more functionality over less is always welcome. But still crap compared to the competition. Microsoft get your head out of your ass, take a lesson from Sony, and get with it when it comes to memory, or Sony will trounce you even more than they are already doing this year. Sony FTW on memory storage. Still.

carl are you even trying to defend microsoft? this statement was the most pathetic shit i’ve seen in a long time. Its about conveinance formatn 200gigs into 16gig segments would be a bitch and then you have to shift through that if you’d move it to a PC

CarlB i know that must have been hard to write for you. I like how you added the word MEMORY but the is that Sony is beating Microsoft at everything from games consoles functionality and reliability plus investment. Don’t get me wrong Xbox 360 was worth buying for me since it has weak security. People just keep buying Xbox 360 like PSP for piracy.

“carl are you even trying to defend microsoft?”
Read my post just before yours.
“Sony is beating Microsoft at everything from games consoles functionality and reliability plus investment.”
Sorry, not yet. Mass Effect 2 is still way better than WKC and while God of War III is nice, it’s still just another short action game. Functionality and reliability are now competitive and still able to stand with PS3, especially as PSN has copied much from XBL. It’s only free because they need to catch up. If 360 is so weak in security and has so much piracy then it is even that much more successful than PS3 as it still sells more software than it.

lmaoo…..it had some pontential but then again, MS wants ppl to buy their product, 16GB or 32GB wont get you far. My PS3 Slim 120GB has about 10GBs left right now. I may need to buy a new HDD for it just like I did with my origial 60GB.
nice to see you back on troll mode
CarlB
I know you hate to pay to play online or watch netflix over XBL but PSN has been free since day one, online play was free for the PS2 and PSP way before PSN existed. in FACT every single console (including PC) has online play for free.

On a good note for 360 fans, is they will be able to buy a 250gb hdd for only $130. That’s more than twice what I paid for mine but still goof considering the 120 was priced similar.

Roca.:
“expect XBL live games to be hack as well”
That was done ages ago.
Mass Effect 2 is corny as hell once you start playing you feel the character like if you were on last gen games.
phranctoast:
For $130 you can get a 500GB PS3 HDD.

Utterly ridiculous and a major stuff around for users, and it still makes consumers go for a MS overpriced hard drive. Waste of time and should not even bother with this frivolous update.

The PS3rd Haters are out. Bitter Fanboys in last place. Sony deserves it for their arrogance and lack of commitment to game development. It took Microsoft to kick them in the ass for them to wake up but a copier deservs to be last and innovators will always prevail.

lmao @ CAD’s generic comment.
Hey…Now you can have USB…you know..that little innovative thing that the PS3 had since 2006. LMAO. enjoy it until you buy another overpriced HDD.
March 19th, 2010
^^ hahaha ill give microshaft one thing. . . they innovated the biggest hardware failure in the history of electronics. . . .YES! a flame war is on the way!
March 19th, 2010
I think it’s a great idea because you can buy a 16GB USB Flash Drive for $20-$50. my 120GB is fine and this would be perfect to house all my game installs. I can have two connected for a total of 32GB so that is great that Microsft is finally doing this. Better late then never. But trust me PS3rd Fanboys it’s minor oversite by Microsoft compared to the catch up game the PS3rd has been doing copying every function that was already on the 360. Sony is no innovator.
March 19th, 2010
Was the point dealing with this idiots Xbots. I already had this since 2007 on my modded Xbox 360 console.
March 19th, 2010
CAD
FF13 wouldnt fit on a 16GB USB device LOL
in fact 16GB is less than the original 20GBs Xbox ‘Pro’
March 19th, 2010
And your point is……………..? I didn’t even buy that game nor will I own that game. Don’t care for Final Fantasy. I will try it at some point but I’m not hard press about it. Besides installs on 36o are an option. Something the 360 has that the PS3 does not.
March 19th, 2010
“Besides installs on 36o are an option. Something the 360 has that the PS3 does not”
you are right CAD, install on the 360 is an option to make you console last longer…..too bad that avioding the 360 from dying is not optional, it just a matter of time.
March 19th, 2010
didnt you or CON said FF13 will sell on 360?
March 19th, 2010
Wow, lets clap at M$ great idea lol
March 19th, 2010
@CAD
Let me point out your hypocritical bullshit, simple ass…
“Better late than never”
Your words not mine.
So, Sony “innovated” by not only allowing unrestricted usb mass storage, but by also allowing unrestricted hd swaps, and ms “copies” this feature in the most ass backwards method possible, and you chalk it up to ” better late than never”, instead of calling them a “copier”.
Let’s see what sony has done that warranted a “copier” remark from you, that we can chalk up to better late than never:
Trophies
PSN in game chat
Netflix Streaming
Various PSN features…
(Awaits applauds from fellow blorge members that are not CAD aka stupid simple shithead..) I know, CAD got owned..again…id just like to say, owning CAD is like a Madden annual release, its inevitably, gonna happen anytime CAD posts…every time
and its just as funny the thiusandth time as the first, there seems to be no diminishing returns on owning CAD
March 19th, 2010
@Cad
those optional installs will disappear thats why Ms is implementing the 16Gb usb. So arcades can play newer games which will require installs.
March 20th, 2010
Roca,
“it looks like you were hoping for the 360 to be able to read as many 16GB partitions as possible. lol looks like a fanboy with to me”
Actually, I was just “intent on circumventing Microsoft’s cutthroat hard drive pricing the Xbox 360″. You can also read my other comment which was posted well before your initial response, as I prefer Sony’s memory capabilities:
“Actually, it looks more like 32GB, as it will only recognize two devices. Ah well, more functionality over less is always welcome. But still crap compared to the competition. CAD,
“I think it’s a great idea because you can buy a 16GB USB Flash Drive for $20-$50.”
It’s an improvement, but still a sorry site when compared to the PS3′s unrestricted storage capabilities.
March 20th, 2010
@cad
yeah 16gb for $20-50
or 500gbs for $80-110
Its a step in the right direction but still falls far behind ps3 in storage.
March 20th, 2010
Everything inside the Xbox 360 is lagging behind PLAYSTATION 3. The PS3 is the most advanced video game system ever made and the greatest.
March 20th, 2010
“PS3 is the most advanced video game system ever made”
I remember when they said that about the Atari 2600 lol. It’s simply the newest and most expensive this gen. Plenty of “most advanced” systems have come and gone over the generations, this one will too.
March 21st, 2010
“I remember when they said that about the Atari 2600″
and it was probably true back then…..today though the PS3 is the most advance gaming system ever made until the PS4/X720 come out

It’s nominally better than the competition in relatively very few games, just as those in the past have been.
