Xbox 360 Project Natal living room space measurements

Xbox 360 Project Natal living room space measurements Gamers interested in picking up Project Natal for the Xbox 360 once it drops later this year will want to note a few things. Since Natal is a full body experience gamers will need to clear some space to get things started.

Gamers excited to pick up Natal can get started by planning out how the living room should be arranged. Tech Flash was able to jot down some notes given by the Natal team during a visit to the Redmond campus.

Apparently you will need to clear a functional space of approximately 13 feet away from the TV. The width of view is also approximately 13 feet with the height capping out at eight feet, 10 inches. If you’re taller than that, you just may be out of luck.

For those with children, it may be a good idea to clear out this space so they don’t bang their legs or arms against the coffee table playing the red ball game, Ricochet. You can bet that Microsoft will be announcing some exciting games that will take advantage of this space at E3 this year.

I have a gut feeling Project Fatal is going to tank and bomb real hard… just a minority precognative feeling last night.

  2. harry sachz:

Funny, I have the same feeling about ‘Move’. Lucky for me I am not convinced about buying either yet.

  3. Ivan_PSP:

That’s what i been saying a ll along you need space plus almost always be standing up. NATAL looks like a huge failure. Most people don’t have room and play in their own room.

  4. CarlB:

“To be precise, you’ll want to clear an area extending at least 4 meters (a little more than 13 feet) away from the television. That’s the back edge of the space to be taken into account by the Natal sensors. In terms of width and height, the field of vision naturally expands as it moves from the Natal device to that back edge, ending up a little more than 4 meters wide and 2.7 meters high (about 8 feet, 10 inches).”

Apparently the maximum “capabilities” are now magically translated into the minimum “requirements”. I wonder how that happened… lol.

  5. RomasantaMC:

Have they announced any real games for this yet?

  6. Ivan_PSP:

    RomasantaMC:
The red ball game which is call Ricochet.

  7. Roca.:

thats a fucking huge space….I think Natal will bomb too

here is what Sony have to say about Natal:
“I think it’s a big idea, and if you really want to get involved in playing with a camera I suggest you go out and buy a $99 PlayStation 2 and play some of the great technology we invented eight years ago.”

  8. RomasantaMC:

    @ivan
I used the term “real” as in a game someone would want to play, not a wii/eyetoy spinoff.

  9. Ivan_PSP:

    RomasantaMC:
Well that’s all Microsoft has for now.

  10. stopstopp:

Hopefully the kids don’t hurt themselves slapping those balls xD

That video made Microsoft again the laughing stock of the entire video game industry. And Sony must is loving it a lot. Project Natal is failure they haven’t even giving the damn project an official name yet or price for that matter.

  12. Liquid:

i agree with ivan. . . .microsoft are class A faggots and have been the laughing stock of the gaming industry since they released the original shitbox. . . . poor microsoft, they should leave innovation and top class gaming to the greatest company ever. . . . .The Sony Corporation.

  13. Rhino:

Who gives a fuck. MS & Sony are following Nintendo. Both are going to have to pull something fuvking special out of their asses to get my money.

In the meantime I’m going back to me new 250GB GoW3 PS3 bundle.

Ahhh that Kratos…cracks me up Lawl.

  14. Ivan_PSP:

    Rhino:
Your money must be real tie LoL. But always remember money is just paper with a value, fun and joy is not.

Congrats, On the 250GB PS3 God of War III Bundle. Kratos is bad ass.

  15. Docwiz:

Some of the sony fans in here are really dumb. Do you expect Sony not to try to fire everything they have got against Natal?

3D/Move or not, their software sucks and they are not going to be able to win against Natal. Sony is screwed so of course they are going to be desperate and try to convince you to buy their product.

All Microsoft has to say is “Playstation Move is just a more expensive Wii”

Right now the software shows that it is exactly that. Yes, Move has a lot of potential, but the Sony devs are not going to take it seriously, just like the did with the Eyetoy.

Also, for move to do a lot of things that Natal can do, you would have to buy another Move. So that is a Playstation 3 + PSEye + Move + another Move. And you still have a 2D camera that needs light to do anything like Natal and even then it’s not going to be as accurate.

  16. Docwiz:

Maximum space is now minimum space. I really can’t wait for E3 and the Tokyo game show to shut the ignorance in these forums up.

  17. harry sachz:

    Did he win it?

Why are you congratulating him?? haha

  18. Rhino:

    No I didn’t win it.

Traded my old non-working 40gb unit, with some vouchers I got for my birthday and some games I don’t play anymore.

  19. harry sachz:

    @ rhino,

Who took the non working one? Game/JB etc?

  20. semjerome:

    @Docwiz
U know that software = games right. and natal is not a software. and sony has at least 30% of the best gaming studio in the world.

  21. gunstar:

yeah congrats Rhino with your 250GB PS3 Slim … I have one too

  22. RomasantaMC:

Is it just me or is all natal family commercials consist of 4 people- man, woman, boy, girl. I don’t think i’ve seen a single tech demo with an interacial family or a single family that wasn’t overwhelmingly white.

  23. Ivan_PSP:

    RomasantaMC:
So true. You gotta remember Microsoft is racist also.

  24. phranctoast:

Move represents the first time I can honestly say that I would like to play a RTS on a console.

I think the biggest issue between the two (Move and Natal) is that Natal will be just for the casuals. With a 1/3 of the CPU processing power being used, the reported lag issues and no buttons congig makes it seem like they are going to have some difficulties with the applications.

Move on the other hand was already shown with SOCOM 4. I don’t think you can really get too much more hardcore. I like that Move will appear to be able to be used for hardcore games. I actually looking forward to playing dead space 2 with that interface. I can’t see how that would be possible with Natal….

  25. Roca.:

“I actually looking forward to playing dead space 2 with that interface”

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories should also be a good port (as long as it is price right)

  26. Liquid:

hey docwiz i heard you have micropenis syndrome, is that true? lmfao

  27. Liquid:

    docwiz

Shut you fucking ass mouthdick! you say shit about Sony fanboys again and i will personaly put my foot so hard up your ass that you will be wearing nappies for life, coz that poor little sphincter will be stretched beyond repair. NOW GET THE FUCK OFF BLORGE!!!

  28. ncaissie:

    LOL

  29. Roca.:

    LMAOOOOOO

  30. Ivan_PSP:

    Docwiz:
You a fucking moron how that fuck are you going to write that bullshit.

“Do you expect Sony not to try to fire everything they have got against Natal?”

I expect Sony to use feature they have over Xbox 360 against Microsoft is business. And the PS3 has a lot of things that can kill the whole NATAL toy/Gimmick/Failure/Disaster.

“3D/Move or not, their software sucks and they are not going to be able to win against Natal.”

Are you kidding me Sony has the best software for PlayStation Move or just the PS3 in general your delusional. NATAL doesn’t have shit.

“All Microsoft has to say is “Playstation Move is just a more expensive Wii””

Oh so you wish NATAL lags like hell and is still in production and hasn’t shown any people anything good but just videos.

“Right now the software shows that it is exactly that. Yes, Move has a lot of potential, but the Sony devs are not going to take it seriously, just like the did with the Eyetoy.”

How would you know that Sony’s team is not taking PlayStation Move seriously. You are a joke.

“Also, for move to do a lot of things that Natal can do, you would have to buy another Move. So that is a Playstation 3 + PSEye + Move + another Move. And you still have a 2D camera that needs light to do anything like Natal and even then it’s not going to be as accurate.”

Duh they can do many similar things they are both motion controller idiot. If you already have a PlayStation Eye you just need to buy the PlayStation Move controller. The PlayStation 3 camera is very advanced. NATAL is not even close to being as accurate as the PlayStation Move controller. NATAL is a memory hugging bitch. Sony already has ads selling the product plus a bunch of people already play a lot of games not just mini games. Plus Microsoft most likely will sell that for a huge price.

  31. Liquid:

    ^^^ yeah whatever he said!

  32. Roca.:

    Docwiz

you will learn that you need solid proof to back up your arguments here or you will get destroy.

Docwiz – “3D/Move or not, their software sucks and they are not going to be able to win against Natal”

that is just a pure fanboy statement. here are some of those ‘softwares’ that you said they sucked and wont be able to stand a chance against Natal.
    -Resident Evil: Gold Edition
    -LittleBigPlanet
    -Flower
    -EyePet
    -Socom 4
    -Brunswick Pro Bowling
-The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest
    -Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

what doesn Natal have, Milo and Kate, the ‘Catch the red balls’ game? please dude, if you are really so excited about Natal, get a PS2 and a Eye Toy cam

btw MS have never existed at Tokyo Game Show

  33. phranctoast:

“Right now the software shows that it is exactly that. Yes, Move has a lot of potential, but the Sony devs are not going to take it seriously, just like the did with the Eyetoy.”

There’s already more games on it than eyetoy had in its lifetime!

  34. ncaissie:

I gota say Flower = shit!
I tried it and it is pretty gay.
Which brings me back to Bayanetta. When she walks into the garden all the flowers and grass grows.
What the hell crap is that?

  35. Roca.:

Flower is awesome, it was indie game of the Year
you have to think of Flower as different experience

  36. Ivan_PSP:

I hate Indie games. They should never get funded ever.

  37. Liquid:

    shut up ivan.

  38. ncaissie:

“you have to think of Flower as different experience”
Definitely not a game. The same with the Flow crap.

  39. Ivan_PSP:

    Project FATAL

  40. CarlB:

    …to Sony’s “Wii-too”…lol.

  41. ncaissie:

    “shut up ivan.”

  42. ncaissie:

    And Carl

  43. Roca.:

Carlb again with his childish comments

  44. CarlB:

Roca’s lofty maturity again with comments that only say “LMAOOOOOO” ;)

  45. CarlB:

    UPDATE on topic:

“While it was perceived that a range of 4 meters (over 13 feet) was needed for the Natal to work properly, this is incorrect. ‘The comments recently about the play space for ‘Project Natal’ were misinterpreted,’ Microsoft told Kotaku. ‘It is true that the ‘Project Natal’ sensor reads the configuration of your room and adjusts play space, as appropriate. We know that living rooms come in all shapes and sizes, and have conducted numerous play tests to ensure everyone will be able to jump off the couch and into the fun when ‘Project Natal’ launches globally this holiday.”

    http://kotaku.com/5500643/japan-relax-about-project-natal

    called it.

  46. Roca.:

another CarlB childish comment, back-to-back now

  47. phranctoast:

I’m sure Japan could not care less. If Lips cough cough Singstar-Lite didn’t do it for them…….

  48. CarlB:

Yes, now it’s “childish” to state FACTS… lol.

  49. Roca.:

    hardly FACTS lol

  50. CarlB:

I think we each have our fair share of facts and opinions ;)
