Lead Ubisoft dev lists PS3 for Splinter Cell: Conviction
Splinter Cell: Conviction is an exclusive console title for the Xbox 360 and will also come out on the PC. However, like with any exclusive title there are always rumors about games going multiplatform. It seems like Conviction is no different.
Earlier today the folks at Playstation Lifestyle found the PS3 listed as one of the platforms Conviction is being developed for on a developers LinkedIn page. Marc Demers is the lead software engineer at Ubisoft Montréal working on Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Since the earlier reporting, Marc has updated his page taking out the PS3 from the list of platforms for Conviction. Could this have been an innocent mistake or a mental slip? The publishers are the ones who usually deal with the business end of “selling†exclusivity, while the studio focuses on developing the actual game for whatever platform(s) it will “eventually†come out on.
Splinter Cell: Conviction is being developed by Ubisoft Montréal and published by Ubisoft, so technically the only thing preventing the publisher from releasing the game onto the PS3 is probably a nice stack of money.

the statement doesnt say shit, Sony only bought out 3 independent studios this gen, evolution studios, big big studios and media molecule which is a great idea because then these games never end up on the competitions console, unlike microshaft who just throw money around at timed exclusivity. . . .Sony was smart to build up a big stable of first party developers and second party developers as part of the Xdev group (this is only for second party studios who sony funds and co-develops with) as i said before they will never end up on xbox 360, yet 90% of the 360′s exclusives end up on ps3.

At least when Sony does it, they buy unknown studios and make them known. They also usually do it after they publish what becomes a well known exclusive for them.

ok CarlB….is this really an argument? here is the big different between Sony and MS’s “stack of money”
Sony’s Stack of Money = Buys Studios develop as many games as possible only for Playstation. Every singe game developed by these studios are owned by Sony.
MS’s Stack of Money = money spent on a single titles that could eventually come out on the PS3, most of them have a PC version and these games are owned by its publisher or developer.
In short temrs, MS’s money only buys time before those game are available on other consoles…while Sony spend their money on studios that will make games that will NEVER appear on another system.

I’m trying to think of a good comparison where a game company made a exclusive game for MS and they are virtually unknown, and then MS could buy the studio out.
I thought Epic because of Gears, but that was stupid. Not only are they established due to the UT series, they also stand to make 100X more on the Unreal Engine royalties than they would ever make making games for Microsoft.
How do I come up with that crazy number..well, I heard Valve only needs 5 other developers games on Steam to equal one game they make in house as for as royalties and Net profit. So Valve is making a killing right now and stands to be one of the most profitable game companies around today. They can stop making games altogether if they wanted to.

I think you made a point there. If I’m building a game I would do a much better job having Sony back me financially then to spend my own money and try to recoup it in sales. But I guess it could go the other way and I would put more effort into the games to be sure it’s great and sells. But effort means nothing if you don’t have the funds for things like sounds, music and research.

First party Studio talk means nothing because owning all those studios means more overhead for Sony. They are trying hard to get out of the red. Having third party developers making exclusive games mean less overhead and more profitability a lesson Sony has not learned. The biggest games for Microsoft are third party developers and they sell better then any game on the PS3 so go ahead and list your developers with bullshit games. This is what differentiates one console from another. Exclusive games. First parry games are also typically better than third party games as far as graphics are tech are concerned because they aren’t forced to make a game for the lowest common denominator.
