Modern Warfare 2 map pack broken on Xbox 360 arrival, fixed on demand

March 31, 2010

Microsoft and Infinity Ward messed up big time yesterday by releasing the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package map pack broken. The issue now seems to have been fixed, but with the MW2 DLC already causing controversy due to its price, this is the last thing that was needed.

The Stimulus Package adds five maps to the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. And it’ll set you back 1,200 MS points, which is $15. The ramped up price was already causing consternation amongst gamers, but the fact that the map pack arrived on the Xbox 360 broken has only added to the annoyance levels.

According to NowGamer, the cause of the problem was a title update that was meant to but didn’t arrive alongside the DLC. And that should now have been pushed out to everyone with the game, meaning the Stimulus Package is working and playable. Some are reporting the problem is persisting, so let us know if you are still having issues with the DLC. And why you decided to buy the map pack at that ridiculous price in the first place.

What’s wrong with $15 for 5 Maps for a game that is obviously worth it. Seems like your the only one with an issue. If the DLC is fixed and a day has not even passed what is the big issue. I guess you have nothing better to write about. I think it’s great that Microsoft secured the DLC on the 360 first. Good job Microsoft let the others wait.

    People still play this game?

Next question: why? 4 hour story and repetitive online. Big stinking piece of crap.

  3. RomasantaMC:

    @barnabe
    you beat me to it.

Cad, quit trying to get yourself banned. Without you there will be no mentally slow kids here to make fun of.

I’ve heard the debate about the price. I personally don’t really care either way. $3 a map if you play the game a lot is not breaking the bank.

At least this was mostly resolved in a day and not like that L4D2 fiasco were the online was broken for two weeks post launch.

    err….you mean $15 for 3 maps…the other 2 you already owned from MW1.

  6. Liquid:

hahahaha i love the way the 360 users are the guinea pigs for this. i think ill wait 30days for the unbroken, glitch free and definitive version.

  7. phranctoast:

    @Roca,

    Really?
They didn’t change it? It’s not like the China town map where it was an old COD1/COD2 map that got a re coating of paint?
If they didn’t change it, that is kind of lame.

  8. Roca.:

yeah,Homegrown and Crash from MW1 are part of the 5 maps….Idk if they change anything, but coming from IW I doubt it

  9. Barnabe Jones:

    Activision’s mission statement:

    -Create a game
-Take said game and chop it up into 10 pieces
-Charge consumers multiple times for each piece of said game.
    -Watch the money roll in.
-Bobby Kotick kills and eats a kitten.

  10. SW:

    Treyarch ftw. :P

  11. phranctoast:

I feel confident I can stay away from Activision games from now on. After the IW heads fiasco, I’m done. The real test is if they make another Jedi Knight game, but it appears that The Force Unleashed games cover the bases there.

I’d buy it if it was cheaper, I have the money but that price is a joke. Dragon Ages’ new DLC is about £30 and totally worth the price because the’s the same length as the game. £15 for 5 maps is a piss take. I’ll wait for the special offers.

  13. Wylie77:

OK, I will admit I like playing playing MW2 and I play it alot. I know I could get $15 worth of play out of the new map packs if they are any good. My issue is if they suck and I don’t want to purchase them I will get booted out of matches because I don’t have them. My other problem is, I’m sure they will release more map packs in a couple of months even though a new game will be out in November. Look at WAW, I believe they released 3 sets of maps at $10 a piece. That’s too much.

    I agree.

  15. b0xel:

15th bucks for a map pack. thats a quarter of the games price, which has 18 maps,so i should be getting the quarter of the games content.3maps = quarter ? I dont think so,
Oh and CAD they released it first on the 360 because they know the people who own it are probably retarded six year olds that would just steal daddy’s credit card.

  16. Roca.:

“Look at WAW, I believe they released 3 sets of maps at $10 a piece. That’s too much”

WaW cost $10 for 3 Multiplayer Maps, 1 Nazi Zombie Map and 10 Trophies with it.

MW2 cost $15 for 2 ‘old’ maps from MW1 and 3 new maps, no new spec ops missions and no trophies

  17. Wylie77:

You missed my point Roca. I’m not talking about how much content the WAW DLC had. I’m saying they released 3 seperate map packs for $10 a piece within a year of the game coming out. That’s $90 for one game when pretty much the same game is going to be released yearly. I didn’t bother purchasing the packs knowing the MW2 was right around the corner. If they had only released one pack I may have bought it.

  18. Roca.:

    I see your point now

  19. CAD:

I bought the WAW maps to but I got the game real late so by that time they had all 3 for 1 price. I think it was 1800 Points which was better then paying 800 Points for each.

  20. jackeroo75:

Anyone knows if MODERN WARFARE 2 map packs have zombies mode? WAW map pack was well worth it because it had nazi zombies~!!!

  21. ViRuS:

Meh, my copy of mw2 is effectively fucked after the TU.

I can’t find games any more.

Funny thing is, Matchmakiing before the patch, was working out quite well for me.

Guess I’ll be shelving that game for a good while.

  22. The Future of Sega:

    ….my ps3 is still broken…:-(

    IGN on MW2 DLC

“I wouldn’t be so bitter about the price tag of the Stimulus Package if it had more content aside from the five maps. Where are my new perks, achievements and game modes? Oh, and the fact that there are only two new playlists (one with standard game modes and one with “Hardcore” modes) is a real bummer. I’m sure the first-person shooter community was disappointed to find out that they won’t have the ability to simply jump in for a few rounds of team deathmatch. When you consider that four brand new maps in Call of Duty: World at War were only 800 Microsoft Points ($10), the general lack of content with the five-dollar bump in price is difficult to swallow.”
