Sony trying to beat Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace update?

April 19, 2010

Sony trying to beat Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace update? In the latest episode of Pulse with the lovely Christina Lee, it was revealed that the Playstation store update would move from Thursdays to Tuesdays. Traditionally the Xbox 360 gets the bulk of the updates on Wednesday one day earlier than the PS3. Could this be Sony’s attempt to push out the latest demos first?

Most third-party demos and updates come out on the Xbox Live (XBL) Marketplace and Playstation Network (PSN) Store during the same week. However, Xbox 360 owners have had the privilege of playing demos and new content one day earlier than PS3 owners.

It’s really not a big deal but it does give Microsoft an edge in media coverage. The first wave of stories taking about demo impressions by video game journalist usually reference the Xbox 360.  With Sony moving up the PSN store update schedule to Tuesday, gamers and journalists will be able to have first dibs on the PS3.

I am not sure if this was Sony’s intention, but it seems like it could be a likely scenario as to why the schedule was changed.

    Perhaps it is

Even if it is is not a big deal is not like is a week just a couple hours. Most multiplatform demo suck. Sony has Xbox Live beat anyways.

I don’t know the reason but it’s definitely nice to get the update two days earlier than before.

If it’s just to 1up MS, they can just move theirs to Monday.

Oh come on are you guys bent on Fanboy wars or what. I read this like how many days ago and now you post this and why? The same issue was brought up saying that 360 people have always gloated because we get the update first. When I read that I said to myself that I have never heard any BS like that ever. Dame Mike I know I’m right when I say your responsible for all the waring and the attitude that exists on Blorge. I’m not even sure how this is possible when most times the 360 gets demo and content more time then PS3 but a quick look at DLC Royal Rumble shows that Sony has not been a slouch like they used to be in the DLC.

But then Sony can move theirs “up” to Sunday… lol.

    Sick cycle carousel.

  6. phranctoast:

If MS really wants to compete they can offer silver members the demos the same time as psn (free) gets it. :)

In all seriousness. This is dumb, but again I’m happier to get stuff on Tuesday as I go out on thursdays and usually don’t even turn on my ps3 on Fridays.

  7. Ivan_PSP:

Xbox Live is over trash crap compare to PSN which has everything faster and better and less clutter and easier to find %100 on non cheap servers like the one by Microsoft.

  8. Roca.:

    enough with all these flamebaits,

Sony move the PSN update “date” to Tuesdays so it can coincide with “retail” release dates.

Sony is selling full PSP games and they usually come out 2 days after they have been already released on retail stores.

David Jaffe says Sony is insane for this go here and see. http://playstationlifestyle.net/2010/04/18/david-jaffe-talks-psn-game-sharing/

    “full PSP games”

I actually downloaded a demo for Patchwork Heroes for PSP on PSN. I liked it alot and ended up buying it last friday.

Appearently some people do buy PSP games on PSN

“Appearently some people do buy PSP games on PSN”

Yeah, everyone with a go does.

I assume he’s using the PSP as his litmus test as the sales of psp games over psn. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in the real world as any psp can DL games from psn, and Sony is not being to forward with DD numbers.

  20. phranctoast:

*”PSP go” in the first sentence.*

  21. Roca.:

Patchwork Heroes look cool, I think it was made by the same ppl who made Half-Minute Heroe, you should check that out too FahKin.

  22. CarlB:

“Sony is not being to forward with DD numbers.”

    I wonder why…

  23. CarlB:

“Patchwork Heroes look cool, I think it was made by the same ppl who made Half-Minute Heroe, you should check that out too FahKin.”

Just make sure to check that the file size isn’t too small and the actual games don’t resemble anything that’s available on iPhone… those are ALL considered “mini’s” by some people here (including Chinatown Wars and Rolando), and as such, not worth playing/consideration as “real games”.

  24. Roca.:

Carlb has to bring up iPhone games to diss on the PSP. dude you Sony hate is showing.

  25. CarlB:

Sorry roca, but merely mentioning iPhone games that are the same/similar is now “dissing” PSP? That’s telling.

  26. Roca.:

who the fuck was talking about the iphone in the first place

  27. ncaissie:

“‘Just make sure to check that the file size isn’t too small and the actual games don’t resemble anything that’s available on iPhone… those are ALL considered “mini’s” by some people here (including Chinatown Wars and Rolando), and as such, not worth playing/consideration as “real games”.”

You got that right jackass. CTW and Rolando suck.
FYI Half minute Hero is a mini.

  28. CarlB:

Sorry roca, I didn’t know the mere mention of iPhone games that were similar to the PSP games referenced would get you so upset, let alone be considered “dissing” the PSP itself. How did “mini’s” on PSP start again?

  29. Roca.:

“The reason the US Store updates are moving to Tuesdays is because “that’s when UMDs are released over there”.

  30. ncaissie:

“How did “mini’s” on PSP start again?”

    Who cares, they suck balls.

  31. CarlB:

Mike and Roca don’t seem to think so.
