Its official – Bungie goes multiplatform with Activision
Bungie, a studio once owned by Microsoft announced a new partnership with with Activision. The partnership is said to be 10-years long and Activision will exclusively publish all of Bungie’s games across multiple platforms.
Earlier today Bungie announced the studio’s partnership with Activision. Many where surprised as Activision has been mired in negative press lately with the strife between former Infinity Ward employees and the publisher.
According to Joystiq, Bungie has made it clear that the reason why the studio decided to partner with Activision was to expand its audience.
Harold Ryan of Bungie stated:
As an independent developer, this alliance allows Bungie the opportunity to bring our next gaming universe and IP to the largest possible audience.
Apparently Bungie is already in pre-production of its next big universe. Also, Bungie’s next game will be multiplatform as well pointing towards the PS3.
Joystiq: Are you worried about the effect of losing that first-party support and hardware access from Microsoft and not having it on PS3, a platform Bungie is new to developing for?
Bungie’s Brian Jarrard: I’d like to optimistically think think that whatever our next big grandiose plans are that there will be numerous platforms very interested in having our title being able to work great and have a great experience on their networks and their consoles, and I have a feeling they’d be pretty eager to make that possible.
It seems like Sony also had something to say about the new partnership by issuing a statement regarding Bungie’s announcement.
Sony stated:
Combining Bungie’s creativity with the incredible power of PlayStation 3 will add serious muscle to action gaming. We look forward to extending Bungie’s ‘next big action game universe’ with PS3 users.
It will be interesting to see if Bungie’s next big universe has something to do with the rumored Marathon remake.

Now Bungie can use the stuff they learned from Naughty Dog.
April 30th, 2010
Also I hope that Bungie, being a respected developer that it is & out of self respect, doesn’t succumb to make “nearly identical games” or “make the PS3 version a bit inferior” BS many developers & money greedy publishers sold their souls into.

The Future of Sega:
Halo is own by Microsoft you will never see Halo on PlayStation. I just hate when people say Halo is coming to PS3.
gunstar:
What did they learned from Naughty Dog? Bungie respected by who Xbots. Bungie will make their game equals i know for sure.

@ Ivan
Time and time again ND always mention having Bungie see their game tech on PS3. Perhaps because of this new IP that is well on development for multi platforms.
It was Bungie who redefined FPS back in the day & Halo was their medium. Even Japanese masters like Hideo Kojima & Keiji Inafune respect Bungie as developers & play Halo.
As an artist I respect their production design for Halo because they resemble Gundam.
Kirkland, Epic and now Bungie what more is left in M$ exclusive stable? Looks like no amount of M$$$ can hold them from checking out. Can the Xbox brand really survive without these 2nd party devs? Can it survive solely on 3rd party deals?

Ivan,
Who said that I haven’t already seen Halo on PS3? When I mentioned Halo being released on PS3, I meant that in terms of “officially” speaking. Errm….there are other “methods” to enjoy Halo on other consoles which I’m SURE you are familiar with
And by the way, ACCEPT MY FUCKEN FRIEND REQUEST ON XBOX LIVE DUDE! Gosh damn! How long does someone have to wait to hear a response from you!? jesus.

I wonder if Epic and Valve will follow Bungie’s step and go Multiplatform
April 30th, 2010
Roca.:
Nope for sure.
April 30th, 2010
Well certainly Epic will. Bulletstorm is a multiconsole release, and People can Fly is developing it.

Bungie replacing infinity ward…interesting.
Next big online shooter to replace cod, will be made by bungie published by activision. It will probably sell like mw2, or better on multiplats.
If bungie does it right (like w/ halo), it will be a great game. (replayability, game balance/variation, good dlc maps, the best website/community support/stats tracking, forge-map editing, theatre game video recording, with halo, bungie has done the BEST in the industry in these areas).
It’s going to be BBBBBBIIIIIGGGGGGG

Hey Ncaissie, longtime no see pal
Lol well in that case I’ll have to get Ivan banned on Xbox Live
Well if you guys want to, add me on Xbox Live for a round of MW2.

I still think Gamer Blorge is one of the best if not the best sites around.
Its open and the mods are not “biased” ( it depends on who is reading) anyone can comment/write his/her opinion and be read/heard. Unlike other sites especially VGChartz who is protected by M$ & protects M$ information/misinformation campaign many comments here specially pro PS or anti-360 or anti-Wii will be deleted to oblivion.
Though I noticed many biased to 360 sites now are turning their coats and kissing PS3 ass lately i.e. MCV UK. I guess they have forehand knowledge of the inevitable things to come as the 360 is experiencing a mass exclusivity exodus now.
“Looking back at a decade of working on Halo that wasn’t our IP we learned a lot from that and I think it was just a position that no one ever wants to be in again,” Bungie’s community director Brian Jarrard said.
April 30th, 2010
Let us pause for a moment of silence for Xbox 360 and Halo fans all over the world. Anyone got a tissue?
April 30th, 2010
Suddenly the idea of Halo on PS3 (or a clone) is great.
Hypocrites.

@HH

Sure. 100 million up front has nothing to do with it.

Are they fucking stupid. They’ve just signed their own death warrant.
I mean have they not seen what they did to Infinity Ward.
Must have CAD as their CEO.
May 1st, 2010
This deal is not even close as the Infinity Ward deal.
They don’t own Bungie. I think this will benefit Bungie a lot since Activision can get them a wide fanbase.
People are so stupid thinking this is bad.
May 1st, 2010
I bet they went multiplatform because the Halo engine was already dated and they wanted to work on a hardware with less limitation and maybe that way it will help make better xbox games

“People are so stupid thinking this is bad”
go play with your moms tities idiot.

I think they were sick of pumping out the same games over and over. I can’t honestly believe that they wanted to pump out ODST and a year later Reach. I’m sure they would have liked more time and that wasn’t a schedule they had in mind.
Ivan is right though. This deal does look like it will benefit Bungie more than hurt them. It’s just really sad watching Bungie go from the Devil to one of his lieutenants.
