Top 50 best video game series of all time
Great games (which also sell in vast numbers) tend to get sequels, in much the same way as great movies do. But what are the best video game series of all time?
Guinness World Records recently polled its readers to compile a definitive list of the top 50 video game series of all time, and the results are interesting, although probably not to everyone’s satisfaction.

Halo is an obvious number one, but of the rest of the top ten, I’d suggest Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and World of Warcraft are a little highly-placed. As some of the commentators at Gamasutra point out, this seems to be a list based more on popularity than any semblance of greatness.
The main problem with any list of this nature is that it’s based on opinion rather than fact, so people will always disagree with the choices and placing. What do you think of it? Any series you’d like to see higher, lower, knocked out altogether?

This is base on todays popularity….10 years from now or 5-10 years ago this list would’ve looked completely differently, so of All Time” doesn’t really apply here.

I don’t think halo is number one maybe 22.
The only good part of halo was the LAN parties.
Sp sucked.

Everyone sorry to say it but I was impressed with Alan Wake but I’m now on chapter 3 and getting extremely bored of it now.
All you do is start every chapter in a happy day time setting and lose you weapon and torch every time. Then it turns night and you have to wander through the woods until the end of the chapter, it’s so boring and shit! I’m really disapointed!
There’s no variety at all, it’s just wandering through some woods and shining a torch on dark people, the only variety I had was a driving section that lasted 30 seconds and was too similer to AITD.
This game needs to change soon.

my friend already beat this game….and he basically see the game starts and finish in a interesting way but everything in the middle is garbage and will bore you to death.

lmao same thing. I’ll complete it though, I complete all the games I buy …except Demon Souls. I got to the next area and lot my save and ain’t played it since. I really should though because it’s brilliant.
You platted it didn’t you Roca? You don’t give yourself enough credit, that must be a very hard platinum to get.

start with a Royal as it it moves fast and comes with a strong range attack and a item that refills your magic.
try beating the first level and then try to co-op with other people in their world so you can learn the level before going through it on your own world.
I might pick up the European “Black Phantom Edition” and replay it again, I could help you Plat the game if you want to.

Mario has been a great franchise and it deserve to be in the #1 spot…..
I think Nintendo should change its name to “Shigeru Miyamoto” or something like that, that dude has single handedly carried Nintendo’s success on its should…He has created almost every single game associated Nintendo. Here are some Nintendo Franchises that Miayamoto created or helped create:

I rented Lost planet 2 on the weekend. I have to say I’m impressed. It was a slow start but after 2 missions I was feeling it. Def a buy after the price drops a bit.

Controls takes getting use to. But once I centered the camera it felt better. (change to camera 2)

I would take out Guitar Hero and Call of Duty from the top 5 and replace them with Half Life and Goldeneye. Good call with Zelda, doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.

I would have honestly expected LoZ to be #1, it certainly deserves it. Then throw in Mario, Gran Turismo, GTA, MGS and Call of Duty, not sure of the order. Then we can put Halo, Gears of War, and God of War. That’s how my list would go: by the way it affected the entire industry, not just the popularity. Also, LBP over Gran Turismo and God of War? and LEGO Batman? WHAT?!

this list is crooked and it can’t be taken any serious
games like Lego Batman, LittleBigPlanet, Chrono Trigger , Counter Strike are all a 1-game IP and they cannot be consider as a “series” (LBP2 was announce after the poll was already over…..and Chrono Cross is not a direct sequel of Chrono Trigger)
