Get Portal off Steam for free until May 24
To celebrate the launch of the new Steam service on Mac, Valve has decided to offer Portal for free. Portal is a critically acclaimed game that came out in 2007. The game received a bit of attention for its mind bending puzzles.
It really is rare for a studio to offer a good game for free. To give you an idea as to how good the game is, it holds a 90 on Metacritic. In most cases its the crappy games that are offered for free. With the launch of the Mac Steam service only a limited number of games are available. However, Valve has assured everyone that more games will follow soon.
Apparently 1.5 million gamers have downloaded Portal while its been free. It has to be difficult for Valve to not look at the sheer number of downloads as potential sales. If you haven’t played this title sign up for Steam and give it a try. The game is available for both the PC and Mac for free until May 24.

The game was and still is TRASH.

Yes. For all those who cannot figure out even GoW III’s minigames, this game is likely to be considered by them as trash. For everybody else who has enough GT to plat GoW III (and complete it’s minigames), not so much.

That mini game did suck balls. Worst part of the game. I felt it really didn’t belong. And yes.. I suck at GH.
Portal was a nice addition to the Orange Box.

@Ivan
Portal is obviously another game you can’t understand. You should go on Amazon and look up the Teletubbies for PS1. That’s more your speed.
You remind me of my “special” friend John…
He buys a game and when he gets stuck on it he starts crying, claims the game totally sucks, then trades it in 2-3 days after it came out.

“The game was and still is TRASH.”
Because you are to STUPID to figure out the menu.

Ivan fell in love with the companion cube despite Glad-OS’s warnings. Then he had to dispose of it and it broke his heart. That’s really why he hates portal.
Also he was very upset when he found out the cake was a lie.

LOL Fahk. “Teletubbies”

@Roca
I beat infamous yesterday. I made it through the game getting all the good trophies except for one, which was when you have the chouice of who to save. I chose the girlfriend lol.
I was also trying to get all the shards yesterday, but by the time i went to bed i was missing 1. Thankfully I found that this morning lol.
I ended up starting the game again, but this time on hard, and I plan on being evil this time around

@Fahkin
Did the same thing. made the other decision on my inFamous run
May 21st, 2010
same here lmaoo…I grabbed it (the hero trophy for not choosing the girl) on my ‘Infamous’ playthrough though
May 21st, 2010
lmao… funny how that happened to us like that…
My thoughts were that I had really wanted to play through as a hero first. The storyline made me care about what happened between Cole and Trish, so naturally I wanted to save here. Turns out that was totally the wrong choice in keeping with the “hero” line. About 7 different curse words came out of my mouth lol.
At any rate, I still need all the “infamous” side trophies, and the Casey Jones trophy, and of course the Plat.
Casey Jones shouldnt be too hard… Kill 25 enemies while riding on a train… I figured it would be eaiser to get that when starting a new game. I will just go through the mission that I get to open up the trains for the first time, kill a few guys, then die so i get to go back and kill some more. Simple.
Well then of course I have to get t he Hard trophy too… which i imagine is going to be very tough
May 21st, 2010
Do hard on the infamous playthrough. It really wasn’t all that difficult.
for Casey jones, you don’t have to die. Just play through about half the train mission and then quit mission. It will leave you next to the guy that asked you to do it.

@phranc
thanks. il keep that in mind
I have to say that after unlocking everything it really sucks to go back to boring vanilla cole… without the static thrusters, rail grinding, and precision lmao
One thing that sucked about being a hero was that one ability… Overload burst. That ability just didn’t help me much at all.
I really wish there was some sort of stat screen in the game too lol.
May 21st, 2010
You can almost everything in like two Platinum just do all stunts and 100 take downs plus find all the blast shards fast.
May 21st, 2010
stat screen and a toggle for the shield would be great.
May 21st, 2010
@Ivan
I completed all the stunts in my first playthrough. Some were harder than others. The last one I got was “Right back at ya”. That was a pain in the neck.
The blast cores were a pain too.. I had one left this morning and I had to track it down. Here it was in a tree in the park in the historic district.
Aside from story-related missions all I have to do now is Casey Jones, which will be VERY easy.
@phranc
the shield is useful but it lets too much crap go buy, cause it is rather difficult to effectively control.
A target lock-on feature would have been awsome too.
May 21st, 2010
I liked the “infamous” story better…..lol
this game was for sure one of the best new IP last year
May 21st, 2010
the ending was shocking huh!!

I think Steam and Valve are “a waste of everybody’s time. Investing in the Steam, investing in the SPE gives you no long-term benefits. There’s nothing there that you’re going to apply to anything else. You’re not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they’ve created.”
“The Steam service is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Valve lost track of what customers and what developers wanted…”
“I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, ‘This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it’.”

Ha! Gabe must be choking on that foot in his fat mouth now.
I don’t care that Portal is free. I refuse to sign up for Steam and have them spam my email. The service is shit anyway.

Barnabe Jones:
So true.
May 21st, 2010
that shield becomes very useful on the hard difficulty.
I wish I didn’t have to hold the button down. Toggling it on and off would have been great.

Gabe Newell has been diagnosed with Hepatocellular no joke. I hope when he dies that someone consume his useless company for better things. EA might buy them.

@Roca
“the ending was shocking huh!!”
Fuck yeah.. I was surprised. My girlfriend was here at the time and she was like “WTF!?! What just happened?” Even though she didn’t watch me play 100% of the game she has been interested in infamous since I downloaded the demo months ago, and I had at least kept her filled in on the storyline before that happened.
@Barnabe
“I don’t care that Portal is free. I refuse to sign up for Steam and have them spam my email. The service is shit anyway.”
I have been on Steam for like 2 years now and I have no never had a problem with the service. Also I NEVER have recieved spam from them. Seems like you probably have some deep seated hatred there somewhere…
@phranc
Too bad the shield is shitty at times. Even fully upgraded I had trouble blocking shots from Alden and the big trash conduit golem guys once they used that “machine gun” like attack
