E3 2010: Sony unveils Playstation Plus

June 15, 2010

Sony’s E3 2010 press briefing saw several games unveiled, and several more given release dates. However, the gamechanger for me is the arrival of Playstation Plus, the new subscription package for the Playstation Network.

A paid-for option for the PS3′s online service PSN has been expected for months. And Sony finally unveiled it at E3 2010.

Called Playstation Plus, the subscription package offers free games, avatars, and dynamic themes every month, discounts on the Playstation Store, early access to demos and beta trials, one-hour trials of full games, and automatic downloads of game demos and updates.

Playstation Plus will be available from June 29, with different packages for different lengths of time from 30 days to a full year. One year packages will cost 5,000 yen in Japan, HK$233 in Asia, $49.99 in North America, 49.99 Euros in Europe, and £39.99 in the U.K.

Sony has insisted that Playstation Plus is entirely optional, with the basic PSN service remaining free at all times. But I personally think this is cheap enough to warrant purchasing.

    “still, cross-game chat remains elusive.”

Dave, chat is coming to PSN+.

    http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/15/cross-game-party-chat-coming-to-ps3-with-strings-attached/

  2. Dave Parrack:

Thanks Barnabe. I hadn’t seen that. Post updated accordingly.

  3. ToshithegreaT:

“the free games you get with the service are only available while you are a member, but anything you get with the discounts and many of the exclusive features are yours to keep. You also keep the free copy of LBP, this is a gift for those who sign up early.”

    http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/06/15/playstation-plus-check-out-what-its-all-about/

    @Dave

its been reported that u ll lose access to all free games u get, when u stop paying for the service.. plz mention the hidden costs

  4. phranctoast:

Sounds OK but I really wanted a Movie subscription package.

  5. Roca.:

    @Toshi
this is no rocket science, you keep everything you get (DLC, discounts, games bout with discount, Themes, Avatar, LBP, etc) except the free games included for being a subscriber…that makes sense.

do you expect to keep online play after downgrading to Silver?

  6. Roca.:

FF9 is out on PSN today.

  7. Barnabe Jones:

Yeah, I don’t think it’s possible for them to delete something you’ve downloaded.

In theory it could have an expiration date I suppose. But that’s unlikely.

  8. harry sachz:

I found E3 to be a little underwhelming this year.

Why oh why did Sony blow their load on Killzone 3 and LBP 2 before E3? The only new game they announced that interested me was Twisted Metal, even though I have never played a Twisted Metal game before I only hear good things about it. If they kept their load in their pants (I suggest they go tantric) they would have won E3.

I think it’s fair to say that Nintendo kicked both arses this year. They were all about the games, there was no silly pissing contest over motion controls, no paid for service, just games, which is what it should be about. It’s even got me contemplating getting a Wii, something I never thought would happen.

  9. Barnabe Jones:

Ha Ha I totally agree with you. It was nothing but surprise announcement after surprise announcement.

The best thing about it was that I was expecting total disappointment, but was blown away by the end of it.

They have a $199 bundle here with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii motion+… it looks a lot more appealing after today.

  10. Roca.:

    Kevin Butler won it….

  11. oldschool1987:

Even though Sony didn’t use their main stuff for E3, they still have the best line up announced with LBP2, inFamous 2, K3 and The Last Guardian, don’t really matter if it was announced about 2 weeks before.

Was a bit disappointed to hear nothing about Resistance 3 though :(

Gears 3 seems very cool as well.

  12. Roca.:

LBP2 just look nuts….did anybody the E3 presentation of LBP2?

    @oldschool
I think Sony is saving some games for TGS or GamesCom, including the 2 new PS3 SKUs. Motorstorm, Socom and other (Last Guardian, Ape Espace) games didnt get any coverage at E3.

  13. oldschool1987:

So the Sony E3 ain’t finished yet? Yeah I just watched the LBP2 presentation, it looks unbelievable. Easily GOTY, undeniable.

  14. harry sachz:

I gave the original LBP demo a try, it may be cute and fluffy but it’s not my type of game. Looking forward to Infamous 2. Is that being released this year?

    @ barnabe,

That’s not a bad deal at all. I’ll try to resist the temptation… that is until the reviews come in.

  15. CAD:

Harry I so agree with you on that. I`m also thinking about getting a Wii. If I`m going to get a second console the Wii is clearly the best choice. I agree Nintendo won E3.

  16. CAD:

That`s bullshit. Part of the lure is Free Games and you don`t even get to keep them. I wast blasting the offer when I reviewed the content and decided that Free Games was a good offer for $50 Per Year depending on the games offered but when I read what Toshi posted I was like this is such a wast of time. 4 Player party when the PeniS3 has all these Thousand player games LOL. The Need for 1 player to have it just for it to work is a broken idea. This is complete Bullshit and I would never pay for it.

  17. CON:

    Free, err PS1 games………..for $50

Cross game chat is the only reason for buying this service in my opinion.

  18. CON:

Just out of curiosity how many of the Pbots here are thinking of buying this?

  19. Andrew_DS:

Good to hear Nintendo made a good impression from E3. Wish I could have caught more. IGN doesn’t seem to have a great deal of info other than a list of games.

3DS sounds good. Everything I have read suggests they have got the effect bang on and the pics look good too.

Maybe this really totally unbiased website will mention it a bit instead of having an little stealthy dig at how Ninty seemed to only show a remake of Goldeneye.

PSP 3D next year or PSP RIP?

  20. ToshithegreaT:

    @harry and cad

i for one, am not interested in wii, but i think u two should keep an eye out for 3ds, 3d with no glasses is an amazing feat for Nintendo.. Kudos to them

by the way i remember ivan saying that he’ll bet his life over xbox 360 slim ain’t launching.. seeing as all these posts are ivnspm clean, we should have a minute in silence for the biggest annoying fanboy/girl, pirate, hypocrite, lier ever on internet forums as ivnspm is “NO MORE”

or we can just party away yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ;)

  21. ToshithegreaT:

    @roca

you totally got me wrong there, as i was letting them know that all those free games u ll be downloading wont be accessible after u stop paying for the membership..

  22. ToshithegreaT:

i meant free games already downloaded while being a member..

  23. phranctoast:

    @harry.
I was thinking he same thing about Sony prematurely blowing their load but that really only affects us the fanboys.

In the real world Sony dominated the Videogame news with all the announcements prior. They took a page from Epic (Gears 3) and announced the games early to gain attention and news space already overcrowded by E3 games.
Why make InFamous2 be a blip on the radar when it could dominate news for a week?

The reason I was disappointed with Nintendo’s showing was it reminded me of what I hate with Sony’s show. They announce a cool sounding games and then it turns up to be just on the portable.
I actually though that stole Kingdom hearts but it turned out to just be 3DS remake.
    Zelda
    Kirby
    Donkey Kong
    Epic Mickey (exclusive announce)

All good wii titles. The rest were 3DS and, I’m not to fond of portables to begin with because I’m no longer a child.

  24. Roca.:

    @CON
so you’re telling me you would rather pay for chatting than not paying for games? or you’re just saying it because that’s really what you xbot are paying for (and the ability to play online)

  25. Roca.:

    @CON
so you’re telling me you would rather pay for chatting than not paying for games? or you’re just saying it because that’s really what you xbot are paying for (and the ability to play online)

  26. Roca.:

    @Toshi
you gain access to all the games once you resubscribe….

  27. CON:

    Roco

I think you’ll find LIVE is rather a lot more than what you describe lol I’m asking how many pbots will actually be buying this.

  28. CON:

Ironic how one of LIVE’s free features is now being charged on PSN.

Basically what Sony are saying is that if you want a superior service like LIVE you’re gonna have to pay for it lol

  29. phranctoast:

    LOL @CON.

Actually…cross game chat is available for all to use. You just need to be a plus member to initiate it. As long as one person is the rest of the party doesn’t have to be.

At no point can a silver member play games online though. Sorry buddy.

I’ll give the trial a whirl. Plus straight up does not offer me what I want from a subscription service, and thats an unlimited movie subscription package with PSN videos.

Although $3/month to be able to try full retail games for an hour is not to shabby. As long as they introduce new games in there that right there may be worth it.

It’s trial for me, for now.

  30. CON:

I think sony should free up the cross chat. If it’s available to non plus members anyway why are they charging for it?

  31. Roca.:

online play is free…..so what are you talking about. don’t you guys pay for it?

  32. CON:

I’m talking about cross game chat, haven’t you been following? LOL.

So roco are you going to be paying for cross game chat or not?

  33. Roca.:

but you guys pay for online play? Online play is free across the board on PSN.

and to answer your question, right now I’m not interested in the service, but I’ll give it a trial though.

but for $50/year you get alot of content

*1 PSN game a month (12 total during the year)
*1 PS1 game a month (12 total during the year)
    *2 Minis games a month (24 total)
    *FREE DLCs
    *Free Dynamic Themes & Avatars
    *Free Beta access
    *PSN discount all year long
*Full game trial that unlocks trophies (if bought) unlike demos
    *LittleBigPlanet thrown in for free
*Automatic updates, patches, DLC and video downloads

doesnt seems bad at all, but then again you guys wants to make it seems like its all about X-game chat when our issue was that MS charge ppl to play online

  34. CON:

Okay online is free across the board, which is good but it’s a limited experience considering cross game and party chat isn’t free. Being able to communicate with friends is one of the major parts of the online experience.

I really don’t see how psn plus has justified it’s $50 price tag. Avatars and ps1 games? Why would anyone want ps1 games? They’re worthless.

  35. Roca.:

    @CON
“Being able to communicate with friends is one of the major parts of the online experience”

how funny is that I have been able to do that since day 1. can you play online for free on the 360?
    thanks again fool

CON said: “ps1 games? Why would anyone want ps1 games? They’re worthless.”

I think you just showed your ignorance. Thanks :D

  36. CON:

Let’s not split hairs roco it’s obvious I’m referring to cross game chat, which you can’t.

If you want to pay $50 to play 15 year old games then more fool you

  37. Roca.:

you keep showing your ignorance dude.
    it’s $50 a year to play 12 classic games
plus many 12 PSN games, plus 24 minis plus:

    *FREE DLCs
    *Free Dynamic Themes & Avatars
    *Free Beta access
    *PSN discount all year long
*Full game trial that unlocks trophies (if bought) unlike demos
    *LittleBigPlanet thrown in for free
*Automatic updates, patches, DLC and video downloads

you keep singling out one single feature out of the total package….if only you would know how much ppl pay to play 20 years old on the virtual console.

or how many ppl downloaded FF7.

again, Online is free across the board and you you want to get extra “content” the you can become a PSN+ member, if not you can keep enjoy doing what you have been doing all these years for FREE

  38. b0xel:

here’s what I think interessting in this package:
FREE DLCs: alone worth the 50 bucks a year, especialy with $15 DLCs.(cod MPs)
    *Free Beta access: cool.
    *PSN discount all year long
*Full game trial that unlocks trophies (if bought): sounds good.
*LittleBigPlanet thrown in for free: there’s ur 50 bucks right there.
*Automatic updates, patches, DLC and video downloads

and, what’s the big deal with cross game chat, why would you want to chat with a person playing a diffrent game than you….. don’t need it, don’t want it.

  39. CON:

“you keep singling out one single feature out of the total package”

Isn’t that what you do with LIVE? LOL

  40. phranctoast:

The psn game alone makes it worth it value wise. $4/month and you get a game that cost $5 minimum, and mostly more.
    Just saying.

  41. phranctoast:

“Isn’t that what you do with LIVE? LOL”

playing games for free online is a bigger deal than xgc, no matter which way you spin it.

  42. Barnabe Jones:

    Serious question:

Who would win in a fight to the death. Marcus_PSP or Ivan_PSP?

I’d have to give the edge to Ivan.

  43. jojo29:

I’m not sold on PSN Plus….precisely because they tied xgame chat with it….unless this tidbit is true:

    *Free DLC:

Now what does this exactly mean? Is it free downloadable content that is offered free, like in general, or we get some or all DLC for games “free” like street fighter costumes and battlefield map packs???

If its the latter, then yeah, it piques my interest..

  44. Wylie77:

I never thought I would say this, but I may just sign up for this service. The free LBP game might just get me to do it. I’ve been meaning to pick up that game for my kid anyways. So why not get the extra perks for a few dollars more. I don’t see myself keeping it for more than a year though.

  45. Roca.:

beside LBP, first free PSN game is Wipeout HD ($20) which is one of the highest rated PSN game.

  46. Wylie77:

Damnit Roca, you are almost twisting my arm to fork over the 50 bucks!

  47. Roca.:

I’m just laying down the facts…lol

  48. phranctoast:

    http://m.kotaku.com/5565042/xbox-live-vs-playstation-plus

  49. CAD:

CON the Plus service is laughable. Free games that you can’t own. Limited Cross-Game Chat. It’s a complete rip off

  50. CON:

    @CAD

Not according to roco! Ha ha!

Services like ESPN, Sky and Zune alone beat PSN hands down…..not that prhancs link mentioned any of those lol.

  51. CON:

Switzerland beat Spain. Didn’t see that one happening!

  52. Roca.:

Zune and Sky is a “paid for content” type for serivice..lmao

PlayTV, VidZone, Mubu, iPlayer, Youtube, PSN video store (way ahead of anything on xbox) *online play*, facebook, twitter, pandora, last.fm, hulu, Sling, myspace, google, Home and more

all for free!!!! (no scam) which makes XBL gold look like a joke.

the there is PSN+ which gives free content all year long.

  53. ncaissie:

You people are stupid. Nintendo SUCKED! Gees have you retards ever tried the wii? The only game I liked on the Wii was GH3 only because it didn’t use motion SHIT.

Sure they did better than last year and dropped the music and vitality shit but their games are still shit. You can put a hat on it and it’s still shit.

Sony move stuff does not interest me. I will have to get the Eyepet for my kids and the Harry potter shit for my wife. Other than that Sony won because they showed off a lot of good games.

I will try the PSN+ for the free 3 months then deside if I want it.

  54. b0xel:

“Switzerland beat Spain. Didn’t see that one happening!”
yea,I hear ya, I was like WTF??!!!
but thats football for ya. ;)

  55. b0xel:

ncaissie, you seem pissed, everything ok ?

  56. twilight:

I agree with the Xbox guys. Even though everything is still free for the PSN, it is funny to me that the Ps3 people are now willing to pay for PS3 online stuff after bashing the Xbox360 people for paying to play online.

  57. ncaissie:

“ncaissie, you seem pissed, everything ok ?”

LOL No! why are you people Nintendo fanboys all of a sudden? Their games play like crap and look like crap. (on the wii)

LOL gees that is so annoying. And EA are greedy fucks who want more and more of our cash. If they want my money they need to stop the Used game BS.

  58. ncaissie:

“I agree with the Xbox guys. Even though everything is still free for the PSN, it is funny to me that the Ps3 people are now willing to pay for PS3 online stuff after bashing the Xbox360 people for paying to play online.”

Umm, there is a big difference between paying for extra stuff and paying for online.

  59. Roca.:

“Ps3 people are now willing to pay for PS3 online stuff”

online stuff? not really, its basically paying for content. I have about 35 PSN games, which cost me around $350 and I usually play those games for a short while and I never touch them again. so PSN+ pretty much becomes (in a way) like game fly for some ppl. a way to try out more games for a fixed price.

Twilight, what PS3 owner have said is that we never agreed with the idea of having to pay to play online game because its pretty much free on every single “online-ready” console.

  60. Roca.:

ncaissie pretty much put it in simple words

  61. b0xel:

“people for paying to play online.”
    Precisely , PAY TO PLAY….. on a GAMING console..LMFAO
and no one here said there willing to buy it just try it.

  62. b0xel:

oh, I see roca and ncaissie already took care of that…. sorry if it seems like an organized attack on u Twilight. :)

  63. twilight:

First of all, I don’t care about being attacked. I love it. This is what I like about this site. If people can’t stand the heat, then they need to get out of the kitchen.
To answer everyone’s question, I still see this as an under handed attempt for Sony to try to get people to contribute to online use. Sony can’t charge people directly because they promised Ps3 users that this would always remain free.

  64. b0xel:

nothing wrong with that as long as they give your money’s worth, ans they’re giving you more ( completely optional)
I think free DLCs alone are worth the 50 bucks a year… don’t you?

  65. Roca.:

    @Twilight
this’s is not something new on PSN
“Qore” is a subscribtion-based online magazine which also offered free games, themes, betas, demos, wallpapers and more. but those freebies are not a monthly thing. you might get one month and then get some more 2-3 months later. and the service cost $25/year.

PSN+ is pretty much the same thing but offer much more freebies on a monthly basis.

but you are comparing online play to gaming content which is pretty much what ncaissie said. and nobody is attacking you ;)

  66. ncaissie:

Only he said it was free as long as you subscribe. To me (and many) that is a rental fee. Which is ok to because I don’t want to pay for download games. DLC is different.
We will have to wait and see.

  67. CON:

Yeah what’s with all this free content talk???

Aren’t you paying $50 for that previlege?

  68. Roca.:

    @b0xel
you are right, like I said I have spent about $350 on PSN games (about 35 games) and we PSN+ you get a combination of 48 total game during the year.

PSN can be active on 5 different PS3s
and PS1 games and Minis can be transfer into 5 different PSPs

plus all the DLCs, full game trial and what not

  69. Roca.:

    @ncaissie
all the free games stays on you console even after your subscription expires, you just can’t access them….but if 4 months later you resubscribe again all your free games will regain access.

I think for PSN [downloable] games this is great, as I usually play them for a few weeks and then I never play them again.

bisides that, you still keep LittleBigPlanet, all DLCs, all dynamic Themes & Avatars, all games purchased using the PSN+ discounts and more.

  70. ncaissie:

i already have 2 copies of LBP. I will probably go for PSN+

  71. Happyhockum:

    CON

“Yeah what’s with all this free content talk???

Aren’t you paying $50 for that previlege?”

It’s, er, ‘different’, when it’s Sony & PS3 to the Pbots, didn’t you know CON?

I’m having a right laugh at all the BS about free downloads, discounted content & other bits and pieces…… that merely copy some of what we already get on XBL gold.

    LBP?
    Pfffhhh.
Microsoft also does freebie games for XBL gold users from time to time.

  72. Roca.:

freebies from time to time is also part of the free PSN service, along with discounts, themes (I have 5 dynamic themes all free) and more

PSN+ gives all that constantly…and I was just informed that it include Qore, a $25/year service included in PSN+

    so for $50/year you get:
    *Qore which cost $25/year alone
    *48 total games
    *monthly DLCs, themes & avatar
    *free betas
*Full game trials (with unlockable trophies)

like I said, I have 35 PSN games which cost me around $350….with PSN+ you get 48 total games during the year for just $50

  73. ToshithegreaT:

“how funny is that I have been able to do that since day 1. can you play online for free on the 360?
    thanks again fool”

Well if u dont care for achievements, u can make new account and delete previous one..

  74. ToshithegreaT:

“the sign up offer throughout Europe is a free download copy of LBP if you subscribe before Aug 3rd for 1 year membership. The US sign up offer gives you 15 months for the price of 12, that’s what Jack was referring to in his speech.”

lol bullshit abt free 3 months lol

  75. Roca.:

“Well if u dont care for achievements, u can make new account and delete previous one..”

    you proved my point :)

  76. ToshithegreaT:

Cross chat is not available right now, but cud be available in the near future lol

  77. ToshithegreaT:

    “you proved my point”

ya i did, my earlier theory value vs satisfaction, nice to see u guys are looking for free stuff, i m happy with eveolving community aspects of live ;)

  78. Roca.:

I prefer value + satisfaction which is what I get on PSN….if you think pass “x-game chat” you will see the world is bigger than that…how about free online play, have you heard of that?

oh yeah, creating and deleting accounts is your “value vs satisfaction” theory…lol

  79. ToshithegreaT:

it works for people who cant afford live, i certainly wont be going against them in favor of a corporation..

While as i said i m happy with evolving community aspects of live, while at the same time can acknowledge that psn plus is quite a good value service

  80. ToshithegreaT:

So u didnt tried to rebute my point against ” 3 months free trial bullshit” claims

    Can i say

    +1 to ToshithegreaT

  81. ToshithegreaT:

“how funny is that I have been able to do that since day 1. can you play online for free on the 360″

LOL keywords here were FREE and PLAY ONLINE, i proved u yes one can.. and u came with the one of the LAMEST comebacks ever lol..

    Should i say

+1 MORE to Indian boy ;)

  82. Roca.:

“So u didnt tried to rebute my point against ” 3 months free trial bullshit” claims”

is not “3 month free trail” is “3 months free”

*core PSN online remains free *
    +1 to every PS3 owner

  83. ncaissie:

    You are an idiot toshi.

  84. Roca.:

    “You are an idiot toshi.”

    @ncaissie
    that’s nothing new ;)

  85. ToshithegreaT:

Yup i needed to know that from kiss-ass superman lol

Core psn online remained free, good point rocospm, only problem is, that i never said it isn’t so your 3 months psn core service point is mute (not surprised) i was talking abt the 3 months free trial bullshit u guys were talking abt.. owned 2 c*ckhandlers at once

+2 to I AM TOSHI oh yeah ;)

  86. Roca.:

lmao…he’s got his own scoreboard for his fantasy blorge league ;)

  87. Roca.:

here is an easy solution for you toshi

If I wanted to try it out…I’ll for the 3-month for $17.99 subscribtion…which means I will get

3 PSN games, Wipeout is the first one and it cost $20.
just with Wipeout alone you are getting you money’s worth.

    Also
    *3 PS1 games
    *6 Minis games
*3 months worth of full game trials which unlocks the trophies if I ever buy them
*3 months worth of avatars, DLCs and themes

  88. ToshithegreaT:

lmao…he’s got his own scoreboard for his fantasy blorge league

nope, only when i keep owning ur sill ass in debates and argument, which is a LOT

  89. ToshithegreaT:

“If I wanted to try it out…I’ll for the 3-month for $17.99 subscribtion…which means I will get”

    @rocospm

Again i m really doubtful if u work at statestreet, dude u are trying to change the topic, u guys were harping abt using the 3 months free trial to check out psn plus while pointed out there is no free trials, its only available to US owners, if they sign up for one year membership

  90. ToshithegreaT:

i hope u did understood this time and if not, then stop with the excuses.. dont waste my nap time GN

  91. Roca.:

you act like a retarted kid with the “owning” game. grow up.

if you don’t think I work I statestreet then ask CAD or ncaissie. but hey, questioning someone else’s job is another kids game. again grow up.

once people’s been humiliated the “name calling” frustration start to show

  92. ncaissie:

He does. We email and it is statestreet.com

“the Plus service is laughable. Free games that you can’t own. Limited Cross-Game Chat. It’s a complete rip off”

I couldn’t disagree with you more CON. Yes, it would be better to truly “own” the games once downloaded, but Sony is pretty smart by ensuring future subscriptions with this. It gives people an incentive to keep on subscribing.

Compare XBL Gold and PSN Plus now and PSN Plus comes out way on top. A year’s worth of Plus gives you access (if you keep paying of course) to a library of games. Combine that with Qore, DLC, etc. and you are looking at a winning combination. Sony brought it with this service, and Microsoft’s XBL Gold is sadly lacking in comparison. Expect Microsoft to add similar incentives in the very near future to stay competitive… and almost everybody here to bicker about how they “stole” the ideas from Sony.

Plus will definitely get me turning on my PS3 more regularly, that’s for sure. I doubt I’ll see anything discouraging during my trial of it, so I plan on subscribing in a heartbeat for this.

As for the purchase of a second console in addition to the 360? I personally would go with PS3, but if I had a large family with kids aged 5-10, I would probably go with Wii.

  94. CarlB:

Just one thing Sony, please don’t bother having crap games for download that nobody wants instead of the highest quality ones. LBP and WipeoutHD is a great start, keep it up.

  95. phranctoast:

    damnit!

The Japanese stole CarlB and replaced him with a doppelganger!!!! ;) ;) ;)

    We’ll see Joe Danger in 4 months..lol

  96. Liquid:

nice one CarlB. . .i cant wait for it either.

  97. CarlB:

    :)
You have to appreciate the effort Sony made here… see you as fellow trial subscribers at the end of this month.

For those who mentioned it earlier, you were absolutely right… Halo Wars is brilliant… I’ve been enjoying this game for quite some time now, though I would still like to see a sequel to LotR BFME II.

  98. ncaissie:

Was CarlB taken over by an alien?

  99. phranctoast:

With Move and Kinetic on the horizon maybe both consoles will see more RTS games……

  100. Roca.:

CarlB you alsmot got me sold on PSN+
the only thing holding me back is the PSN games as I have too many of them and I’m afraid most of them will be offered during the first year.

but other than that….I’m all for Betas (hopefully Twisted Metal beta), free DLC and PS1 games since PSP has been collecting dust lately.

Qore is another service I have been looking at and now its included with PSN+ which makes at no brainer

  101. phranctoast:

Medal of Honor beta starts up on June 21st.

  102. Roca.:

    @Phranc
I already got the code, it says it starts June 21st but EA said the beta will start today for BC2 VIP members with MoH pre-ordered.

so I’ll try to download it today

  103. phranctoast:

    cool.

  104. jojo29:

    Carlb…sold me…to sub..for Sony’s PSN???!!!…..wow!

  105. ncaissie:

LOL I have a feeling Roca was planning to get it anyway. :)

  106. jojo29:

My big question is still how are they/what do they mean free dlc? As in map packs or just general free content…

  107. phranctoast:

    @Jojo
I think they just mean random free DLC. stuff thrown in.

You’re not going to get COD map packs and things like that.

  108. ncaissie:

Probably things like LBP and Mod Nation skins.

  109. Wylie77:

I’m sure all the free/extra DLC will be stuff like different clothes for your character and maybe an extra level or two for certain Sony studio games. I don’t think it will be anything major and certainly not map packs for third party studios.

  110. Roca.:

I heard all 5 Fallout 3 expansions + a new one are included in the first month ;)

Hands-on with the PlayStation Move – CNET

“Of the three major motion-control peripherals for game consoles, the Wiimote, Kinect camera, and Move controller, it’s Sony’s device that looks the most garish. The black flashlight handle stick is topped with a ball that can change color, depending on its use in a particular game (the ball is actually soft to the touch, which always seems to surprise people), and it looks a lot more like game hardware than Nintendo’s understated white controller or the Kinect’s multimedia-looking Webcam.

Aside from that, we’d have to say that in terms of acting purely as a video game peripheral, the PlayStation Move is currently our favorite entry in the motion control competition. Kinect works well enough, but it’s not always as responsive as you’d want, or at least that’s how some of the games we tried felt. Plus, Kinect’s opening game lineup is somewhat generic, with more proof-of-concept games than titles that would stand up without the Kinect tie-in. In fact, the Kinect’s biggest strength has been largely unheralded–it’s excellent ability to recognize and respond to voice commands, which is useful for home theater tasks”

    Phranc
That’s what I figured…anywhoo, carlb did a very nice sum up of the extra…extra …..not mandatory like online gaming….that’s OFFERED by psn+

I’ve always tried to explain this xbots….LIVE as a whole is cool, I don’t like that they MAKE you pay just to be able to get online…..which is free on all other consoles…..they tied the extra Gold features, with online gaming..which is a must….see the difference????

The one thing so far I don’t like, is sony tying xgame chat to psn+…haven’t seen anything official as its not listed as a bullet point in psn+ stuff….but like I said, even if sony does it, you’ll hear me bitch about it…in this case at least iits JUST xgame chat…a feature I can live without, but I m bitching about it just the same…no hypocrisy on my end ..

Aside from that, day one subscriber here…they’ve enticed me enough…carlb convinced me, especially coming from a multi console owner, who tends to favor the 360…for him to say what he did ;) thumbs up he at least understands psbots quibble about the gold live…
