Tomb Raider reboot due out Xmas 2011
The long-gestating Tomb Raider reboot is still some way off being completed, but a release for the 2011 holiday season is being targeted.
Last July saw news of a new Tomb Raider game leak on the Web. The basic premise is of a prequel to the previous games, with a reboot to the series provided by a younger, less-experienced Lara Croft. The world will change from a linear one to a sandbox one, with gameplay becoming as much about survival as about adventuring. Elements of Mirror’s Edge, Prince of Persia, and Uncharted will also be included.
Eurogamer is now reporting the new Tomb Raider, possibly subtitled Downfall, is scheduled for a Christmas 2011 release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Crystal Dynamics is now busy working on this new title, with the downloadable spin-off Lara Croft and the Guardian Of Light completed and set to be released later this year.
Is anyone excited about a new Tomb Raider? If so, how do you feel about the changes to environment and gameplay that are being made?

I liked this game on the PC. I played 2 and 3.
I haven’t played it since. I may give it a try if they come out with something cool.

Don’t want a sandbox game. I’ll have to keep certain judgement until I play it.
I like the original format which apparently is gettin stale. The improvements I’d make is
better story telling like uncharted
better cover and fire mechanic like uncharted
maintain the game as a platformer primarily and not almost a shooter entirely unlike uncharted.
I like uncharted for the way it is and tomb raider for the way it is. Tomb raider excels in puzzles and platformjng and I don’t want to see that lost.

They are messing with my beloved Tombraider. Why is that game developers never fix what needs to be fixed? I’m not liking the direction that they are taking this game.
