Play as Al-Qaeda in Medal Of Honor
In the new Medal Of Honor game, due out in October, you can reportedly play as Al-Qaeda characters in multiplayer. And this seems to have upset some people. Personally, I don’t see what the fuss is about.
A writer on Destructoid has taken exception to the fact you can play as Al-Qaeda in the new Medal Of Honor game. He was so offended by the fact, he walked away from the booth at an EA press event.
Granted, the writer in question has an Afghan heritage, so this is a subject matter close to his heart. But still, I don’t see this as some huge faux pas on the part of Electronic Arts.
The fact is that every FPS has villains, some based on real people, some fictional, and yet most of them are playable in multiplayer modes. Is Al-Qaeda any worse than the Nazis? Or the Viet Cong?
It isn’t as though playing as a character based a Medal Of Honor programmer’s idea of an Al-Qaeda foot soldier means you’re lending them your support.

I’ve been playing as some kind of saudi for years in counter strike, all the time killing SAS, SEALs, GIGN, etc. Before that I’m sure I’ve been Nazi’s or Russians (poor russions, always the bad guys in movies).

I hope EA will put American war profiteers on Medal of Honor so I can blast them to smitherenes! They are the real enemies.
Be it American, Canadian soldiers or so called Al-Queda “terrorists” they all fall victim to these war profiteers.

As Ncaissie said, Al-Qaeda stuff are just too recent, it has been less than a decade on their major stuff.
Russians not so much, and Nazis were even older.
