Guillermo Del Toro working on games
The games industry is crying out for some innovation and strong storytelling. Step forward Guillermo Del Toro.
Guillermo Del Toro is a film director with a very specific style and vision. You can see it on screen in the Hellboy movies and the striking Pan’s Labyrinth. The man who should have been directing The Hobbit movies, but who had to depart to work on other projects, is about to start working on video games.
Del Toro has long-professed his love for games, and recently told MTV Multiplayer he’s now getting involved at the grassroots level, saying:
One of the things we’re announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We’re going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting. It’s not a development deal. We’re going to do it. We’re doing them. And we’re going to announce it soon enough.
That’s a little obtuse. There’s speculation it could be the videogame of The Hobbit movies, but I can’t see that. Still, I’m interested to see what he’s going to come up with, whatever form it takes.
