Heavenly Sword dev goes multi-platform
Ninja Theory, the developers of PS3-exclusive Heavenly Sword, aren’t going down the console-specific route again. Instead, they’re determined to be multi-platform from now on. Which makes sense.
I can see why console manufacturers want games to be available exclusively on their machine. A big exclusive can sell millions of consoles. But there’s less in it for the developers as making money becomes more of a gamble. Which is why many devs are changing tact.
Chief designer and co-founder of Ninja Theory Tameem Antoniades spoke to Digital Spy about new game Enslaved: Odyssey To The West and future projects. He revealed:
We’ve not announced it yet, but now that the main game is pretty much done, we’ve started another team to start on the DLC. It will be story-based, mission-based, but it will be a side story, so it’s optional, you won’t need it for the main game at all.
I think it will be another story-based game, big adventure type thing, that’s all I can really say. That’s our goal. We want all our games to be multi-platform from now on.
Ninja Theory has already stated it would like to make Heavenly Sword 2 but hasn’t been able to because Sony owns the IP. Which is the other problem with being in one or the other’s pocket. No wonder Ninja Theory has turned its back on Sony and the PS3 in order to go multi-platform.

“I can see why console manufacturers want games to be available exclusively on their machine.”
…and neither Enslaved or Heavenly Sword 2 falls into said category.
Although actually, I haven’t played Heavenly Sword, so maybe I shouldn’t shoot my mouth off.

Interesting that this is news. We knew this prior to Enslaved being announced.
