British government minister “disgusted” by Medal Of Honor – EA doesn’t care

August 23, 2010

The new Medal Of Honor game is causing controversy even before it’s released. Which has brought out all the media whores and bandwagon jumpers who don’t know what they’re talking about.

We first spoke about the new Medal Of Honor allowing you to play as the Taliban a few weeks ago when a blogger took offense to it. Since then the issue has crossed over into the mainstream with media rent-a-quotes expressing their concerns. And now Britain’s Defense Minister Liam Fox has joined in.

According to The Guardian, he said:

It’s shocking that someone would think it acceptable to recreate the acts of the Taliban. At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands. I am disgusted and angry. It’s hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to show their support for our armed forces and ban this tasteless product.

Brilliant. The man knows absolutely nothing. For starters no British troops feature in the game. Secondly, this is hardly a new feature of video games, with someone always having to fight for the other side in multiplayer. As EA states:

The format of the new Medal of Honor game merely reflects the fact that every conflict has two sides. We give gamers the opportunity to play both sides. Most of us have been doing this since we were seven: someone plays the cop, someone must be the robber. In Medal of Honor multiplayer, someone’s got to be the Taliban.

It really is as simple as that. But then admitting everything’s OK doesn’t sell newspapers or score political points.

    its a game……who cares.

We see worst shit than this in the movies, internet or in the news

  2. SW:

Ill say it again, we’ve been playing enemy combatants, whether they’re russians, afghans, chinese, japanese, etc. for years now.

Jeez, you put the label ‘taliban’ on it and all of a sudden everyone gets upset.

Maybe EA should make it so that no matter what, coalation forces ALWAYS win. For example, the last coalition soldier could become invincible with ‘righteousness’, he could also get infinite ammo and killstreak rewards… Oh and just to keep the femininsts happy, you could choose to be a female taliban member (I’m not if the females are only allowed to blow themselves up/clean the dishes tho…) or a female soldier. Race also needs to be selectable as well as ethnicity, oh and hair style and penile length as well as breast size…

    So true.
Some is the cowboy and someone is the Indian.
Some is the pbot and someone is the xbot.

  4. ncaissie:

    some = someone lol

This is really ridiculous. It always amazes me how people get so bent out of shape over video games. If a person finds the game to be offensive, then the person shouldn’t play the game. What makes these people think they have the right to ban something just because they redeem it to be offensive? This is going to far.

    Sorry about the double post.

  8. Happyhockum:

    It’s a time thing.

If video games had been around way back then, then the same would have been said within a couple of years of WW2 if the COD/MW WW2 type game had come out back then.
(…..and God help anyone trying to produce one while it was still going on)

    Times have changed, I guess.

For some the pain of the reality is just too recent & raw & they do not appreciate people making entertainment out of matters of life & death, especially when it involves the death of their loved ones.

Call it stupid & all the rest if you like but I guarantee your attitude would undergo adjustment if the hurt ever came to your door.
Same as with all that juvenile casual use of terms like rape etc etc.

  9. Ultima:

damn media ant their bullshit, it never stops :S
like if any fucking government didn’t took someone’s life at the expense of shutting some mouths up. Now they are arguing due to a game mode.

    PLEASE……..

  10. CON:

Bet the British government wouldn’t complain if it was the Mujahideen vs the Russians.

    Hypocrites.

Will I get to see Katy Perry’s boobs in this game? :)

“At the hands of the Taliban, children have lost fathers and wives have lost husbands.”
more children have lost their fathers and more wives have lost their husbands at the hands of both US and British military…. but I guess that’s OK ….

  17. gunstar:

Someone needs to make a skin mod of Britain’s Defense Minister Liam Fox for this game.

And whenever that guy comes to play there is a warning alert that says,…

” And now Britain’s Defense Minister Liam Fox has joined in.”

  18. CON:

    boxel

La la la la la la…..You’re not allowed to talk about that. La la la la la

  19. phranctoast:

    @Con

ever think about being a suicide bomber? I hear the benefits are amazing. You should look into that.

  20. CON:

    Phranc

Well according to you if you are a Muslim you hate Jews and Christians so therefore all Muslim countries are a potential threat.

If this is the opinion of the average American then god help your country.

Too bad Socom does not do terrorist anymore…I loved killing those worthless mofos.

is CON still fighting the Holy war…on the web!!

  26. ncaissie:

“Here’s your party leader denying the holocaust”

LMFAO Your party leader Denys it so that means you deny it! LMFAO What a fucking tool.

  27. Wylie77:

I’ve got a quick question, I haven’t read much about this game. Is this game referencing the Russians fighting the Taliban?

I was thinking of getting this game, really liked some of the games they had on PS2. I don’t think this game should be banned, but now that I know the Taliban is being featured in this game, I may reconsider buying it.

I think HH is right it’s just too soon. However, if it is the Russians and Taliban I may still get it. That war happened what, 30 years ago?

  28. ncaissie:

Lol if you are on the Taliban side do you do strategic suicide bombing?

  29. Roca.:

Modern Warfare 2 got away with killing civilians…Medal of Honor will do just fine.

  30. phranctoast:

I can see the argument from both sides.

Media and entertainment about the subject has been ongoing for s decent amount of time now. Why isn’t the Hurt locker, or Green Zone getting free passes and awards for HL and a game gets criticized?

I simply think it’s the fact that you can actually be the Taliban that has some people up in arms.

But they are covering their asses nicely and quite frankly pretty well done. Someone has to be the bad guy.

  31. CON:

Wonder would the government be kicking up such a fuss if they weren’t actually lossing the war. I’m pretty sure if they were kicking ass over there playing as the Taliban would be a lot more comical for them.

I love the simple analysis from phranc with the good guy, bad guy concept.

Who would play the good guys in an Iraq war game?

The tyrant Saddam and his bath party??

Or the US/UK illegal invaders under UN law who went under the false pretense of weapons that didn’t exist, causing the liberation/death of hundreds of thousands of civillians, brutally tortured inmates and massacred innocent civilians in revenge attacks.

    Hmmm

  32. Roca.:

    here we go again…..

  33. ncaissie:

    you are sad con.

  34. Roca.:

I’m glad EA doesn’t give a shit – if you dont like then don’t buy it. Plain and simply

  35. Wylie77:

Sorry Con, I’m pretty sure those hundred of thousands of civilians were already dead and in mass graves by the time we arrived in Iraq. I guess if you are desperate (and we all know you are) you could try to blame Bush for asking for an uprising and promising help that never came. And then Saddam gassing the shit out of them until they coward down to him again.

  36. Wylie77:

The US and UK may not be perfect in who they choose to help. But aleast they aren’t sending ships to that little terrorist country who’s flag you so proudly fly as an avatar.

  37. CON:

    Wylie

“I’m pretty sure those hundreds of thousands of civilians were already dead”

No those deaths would be because of an illegal war you moron lol

Palestine is a country under an illegal seige by Israel last time I checked UN law.

  38. CON:

Yeah sending ships of aid is a pretty shitty thing to do to millions of people starving to death due to an illegal blockade eh wylie?

  39. Barnabe Jones:

    Wylie,

I agree, but don’t bother with Con. He’ll support any terrorist cause.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Let’s just hope he gets shot one day before he can do harm to innocent civilians.

  40. CON:

    Barnie

    Ignorance is bliss

America has the blood of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis on its hands.

Supporting innocent civillians is now a terrorist cause lol it just gets better

    American ignorance is great ;)

    Wylie

    well said….

  43. Wylie77:

Con, please tell me how the US and UK have killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. Didn’t happen. Did some die, of course, happens in war all the time. But I’m sure Saddam and his sons killed more in a week than our soldiers have killed in the whole war.

  44. Wylie77:

“Yeah sending ships of aid is a pretty shitty thing to do to millions of people starving to death due to an illegal blockade eh wylie?”

What do you want Israel to do Con? Are they suppose to just sit back while missiles are lobbed at their innocent civilians?

Now I know why Ireland spent so much time trying to kill each other. Idiots like you.

  45. CON:

    Wylie

    Your ignorance is unbelievable lol

Iraq was an illegal war. FACT.

Hundreds of thousands have died as a result of the illegal war. FACT

Don’t comment on Israel when you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about by the way. When there was a ceasefire Israel carried on assassinating Palestinian leaders. Missiles with non explosive heads vs attack helicopters killing children…. No contest.

Do you even know the ratio of dead between Israelis and Palestinians??? Obviously not! Israel don’t even allow items like nappies into Palestine. It’s against UN law.

America is one of the very few countries that support paying billions via their tax payers for this systematic murderous campaign and the world resents them for it.

I’m obviously in the minority in this site with american fanboys redneck opinions but in the grand scheme of things I’m well travelled and fully aware I’m in the huge majority of world opinion.

  46. oldschool1987:

What a boring cunt. Blatantly has no actual friends

  47. Wylie77:

“Or the US/UK illegal invaders under UN law who went under the false pretense of weapons that didn’t exist, causing the liberation/death of hundreds of thousands of civillians, brutally tortured inmates and massacred innocent civilians in revenge attacks.”

That is your quote Con. Where is your proof that hunreds of thousands of CIVILIANS have been killed by US forces. (Sounds more like Saddam to me) Just because they refuse to wear soldiers uniforms doesn’t make them civilians.

If you want to be a Palestine sympathizer that is your choice. I don’t think they are what your blatant propaganda is trying to make them out to be. But judging by your past posts you love to sympathize with terrorists so I shouldn’t be suprised.

  48. Roca.:

    PWND

  49. phranctoast:

CON has already been proven to be the biggest hypocrite in existence.

OLD is considered a holocaust denier because it’s the belief of the leader correct?

Well then by proxy Con supports terrorism. Palestinians elected Hamas into power and they are renown terrorist. Keep waving that flag you fuckin terrorist hypocrite.

  50. CON:

“OLD is considered a holocaust denier because it’s the belief of the leader correct?”

HA HA so if you support the KKK you’re not a racist??? YES OR NO? LOL Simple question!

  51. CON:

I do not support Hamas, I was a big fan of Fatah but when Israel killed thousands of ppl (woman and children) in recent years it’s no supprise that extremists have jumped on this.

The majority of the world condemn what Israel are doing. EVEN OLDS BRITISH GOVERNMENT. The US have spent trillions funding Israel, whilst the UN have condemned Isreal for killing civilians, illegally deporting them and destroying mosques. US ACTUALLY VETOED THIS STUFF! LOL

Below is a link of US vetoes.

    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2000.htm

Who exactly is the terrorists in the holylands???? The UN seems to have a pretty good idea!

  52. CON:

BS If the US didn’t step in Saddam would still be executing the civilians.
Don’t blame the war you fuckin tool.

  55. CON:

It’s not BS Norman it’s fact!

  56. Roca.:

Saddam was a thread and need to be taken out. Justice was served on 30 December 2006.

  57. phranctoast:

At least the war lifted the sanctions. 1.5 million died as a result. Mostly in Saddam controlled South and not UN controlled North. After the first persian gulf war UN imposed sanctions on Iraq, rightfully so. The idea was to force Saddam from power.

Time after time Iraq violated UN provisions and if the 2003 war didn’t happen as a result of Wmd’s, it should have happened from Iraq stepping all over the UN. We had the balls to do something about it.

There’s a reason why the people of Iraq tore down statues of Saddam.

It’s quite easy to play Monday morning quarterback and say what Should have happened from the sidelines.

  58. oldschool1987:

LMAO Con is getting made to look a right Twat. Funny now he’s saying that I support the KKK, even though my little niece is half-cast lol. Your so full of shit Con, talking right out your arse you hypocritical fanatic.

EA stands by Medal of Honor Taliban feature

“At EA we passionately believe games are an artform, and I don’t know why films and books set in Afghanistan don’t get flack, yet [games] do,” EA Games President Frank Gibeau told game developer publication Develop Online this week. “Whether it’s ‘Red Badge of Courage’ or ‘The Hurt Locker,’ the media of its time can be a platform for the people who wish to tell their stories. Games are becoming that platform.”
