This Is Vegas is industry’s biggest waste of money

August 25, 2010

This Is Vegas is industry's biggest waste of money Many of you may recall an open world Vegas themed GTA-like title that was announced a couple years ago. The game, titled This Is Vegas was developed by Midway subsidiary, Surreal Software before being sold off to Warner Brothers.

According to CVG, Warner purchased This Is Vegas as part of a $33 million deal over Midway’s assets.  According to a source close to CVG, the game has been canceled by Warner.

The source also revealed that the estimated cost wasted to develop the game was around $50 million between WB and Midway. This is an insane amount of money wasted on developing something that looks like the game in the trailer.

The source stated, "It’s a ridiculous waste of money.” The source goes on to say, "a silly budget when you think that games like Konami’s Saw – which made profit – were built with around $3m."

I hate to state the obvious, but this late in the game it seems to make more sense in just releasing the game so that WB can recoup some of the money rather than canning it at a total loss.

50 million dollar budget??? Hahaha this is more like a 50,000 dollar budget. The game seems OK at best. But it’s not worth my time.

Even the trailer is boring. Good call on the cancellation.
