Nintendo cuts DSi, DSi XL prices
Faced with falling sales and competition from both Apple’s mobile devices and smartphones, Nintendo is cutting the price of the DSi and DSi XL.
According to press release from Nintendo, it is cutting the RRP of the DSi from $169.99 to $149.99 and the RRP of the DSi XL from $189.99 to $169.99. The older DS Lite, which remains a good choice due to its ability to play GBA games, remains at $129.99.
Sales of the current-gen handheld consoles seem to have peaked, which has no doubt influenced Nintendo’s decision to drop the price. There’s also the added competition from the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, all of which are capable of playing games. And smartphones which also have a range of simple yet addictive titles available for them.
The biggest reason will surely be to squeeze as many sales as possible this holiday season before the 3DS arrives. Whether $20 will be enough to persuade more people to buy a DS at this point is arguable; I’d have rather seen the DS Lite fall below $100 and the newer models get a bigger price cut.

Ha I’m playing a GBA game at the moment. DS lite FTW. It’s essentially 3 handhelds in one.
The 3ds will not compatible with GB and GBA games btw. It supports only DS and DSi.

Dave don’t forget the Android powered SAMSUNG Galaxy S line of smartphones that is selling like crazy!
The only reason I don’t buy the kids a DS is that it takes considerable amount of their social life. I don’t let them play on my PSP either.
So we decided on a PS3 console. Its physically more of an open & social form of gaming. and yes consoles will stick around for a long while.

I have the original DS, but in the Electric Blue color, which is awsome. I love to play some GBA games on it, especially the two Metroid games. They are classic.
I would like to get a DSi XL though. That thing is just awsome. Wish there was some better games out for it though

I also picked picked up Fussion. I bought it day one when it first came out, but never beat it. I’m looking really looking forward to playing it again.

Not really. My kids have one each and they only play them when we go out for long drives or away for a weekend. My kids are younger though and don’t have social lives yet.
