Duke Nukem Forever coming to PC, PS3, Xbox 360… finally, after 13 long years

September 3, 2010

I can’t quite believe I’m writing this post because I, like everyone else, thought Duke Nukem Forever had been nuked forever. Instead, it’s being released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2011. Yes, really.

3D Realms began working on Duke Nukem Forever in 1997. Despite the company releasing promotional material for the game every couple of years, Duke Nukem Forever never actually arrived. And in 2009 3D Realms effectively shut down, with staff made redundant and development teams split up.

Bizarrely that wasn’t the end of the line for Duke Nukem Forever, with Gearbox now polishing the game up in order to release it sometime in 2011. According to CVG, while speaking at PAX, company boss Randy Pitchford said:

When Duke ran into trouble, we were glad to [help him out of] a spot. You can’t let the Duke die, right? We wanted to deliver the game this is supposed to be.

But what does that mean? This game was started in 1997 when the original Playstation was the console of choice. Which makes me wonder what this game is going to look and play like. Can you polish a turd?

One to keep an eye on. It’s really hard to say what the impact will be when it ships.

I wish I could give a proper response right now but I’m drunk off of my Monster III Energy drink :-) lol. This is better than Smirnoff!!

Do alot of the younger audience even know who Duke is?

I’m not holding my breath for an awesome game.

Apparently some people are already posting wondering who Duke Nukem is.

I’m not holding out for awesome, but Gearbox are pretty talented, so I’m not expecting a total let-down.

Didn’t Prey have loads of troubles in production, with a few cancellations? It’s one of the nest FPS ever still.

Gearbox did a great job on borderlands so I can’t wait to see how they finish up Duke.

I know that everyone truly thought this was dead but I have said several times that I had not given up hope and I knew it was comming.

You can’t forget that the graphics engine of the game was changed several time since then, which is part of why it kept getting delayed.

IN completely unrelated news my video card died on my PC yesterday morning. I heard a nice little *pop* sound and a few hours later the screen started getting all fuzzy and distorted.

Luckily I found a new graphics card online for $30 to tide me over until I can get a better replacement or fix the old one. Some capacitors are popped and they can be replaced with some solder.

I had to steal my sisters crappy windows vista laptop for a few hours to contact support on my vid card but it was out of warranty so then i just found a new one, which i should have by next friday.

Its not a total loss though lol…

Months ago I was comming home from work and someone had tossed out a Sony Vaio PC and the tower was all there so I picked it up. It works fine… no where near as good as my PC though but at least I have a back up in an emergency.

WHo am I kidding? it sucks! I want my baby up and running again! This Vaio is slow and has no power lmao.

I went from an AMD dual core Athlon 64 X2 3.0ghz to a single core Celeron 2.0ghz. I’m dieing here!
