GoldenEye 007 dev slams Wii remake
Are you pleased that GoldenEye 007 has been given a Wii makeover? Someone who worked on the original isn’t, and maybe we should listen to what he’s got to say.
I’m quite looking forward to GoldenEye 007 on the Wii. I’m not expecting miracles but it’s going to be a trip down memory lane. Which is always a good thing. However, not everyone is so pleased with the idea; the designer of the original Nintendo 64 game for one.
In an interview in the new Official Nintendo Magazine, former Rare employee Martin Hollis didn’t hold back with his opinion on the GoldenEye 007 remake and Activision. He said:
I imagine it is a business decision isn’t it? This name is valuable, let’s use it. I find it hard to picture Activision’s top management being excited about the original and wanting to do it justice. In fact, I find it hard to imagine them being excited about any game. It’s my perception that they are trying to be EA, only more so. I think they are doing a fine job at that.
Ooh, biting. But probably true. Hollis does have a higher opinion of Eurocom, the company that’s developed the Wii version of the classic game, though, saying:
I know and like Eurocom. I think they are a good company. I’m confident they have done their very best.
Let’s just hope their very best is good enough. Because if it isn’t we’re all going to be left wishing the original GoldenEye 007 had been left well alone where it belongs: on the N64.

Lmao I don’t know how they got their hands on this. It’s like THQ remaking the original Lara Croft Tomb Raider game. These guys are going to ruin what fond memories I have left of Goldeneye 007

I have a feeling he’s right. Activision is just cashing in on the name and nostalgia of Golden Eye.
Since they can’t legally recreate Rare’s work, it’s most likely not going to be anything like Golden Eye.
