Nomura talks about Final Fantasy Versus on the Xbox 360
Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been in development for quite some time with very little information revealed. The game has been touted as being a PS3 exclusive. It appears that there is a possibility that the game could go multiplatform given the right conditions.
Many hail Versus as the true successor in the Final Fantasy series rather than Final Fantasy XIII. Versus is said to bring the traversable world map back to the series along with the progressive real time battle system see in previous iterations. The game will also take a darker and more realistic turn with blood and violence.
Rumors of Versus making its way over to the Xbox 360 have gained the attention of the developers of the game. According to Andriasang, Tetsuya Nomura, director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII recently addressed this question in a tweet.
He tweeted:
Multiplatform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimizing for multiple platforms. Porting is something that’s done after you’ve developed a game specifically for a particular platforms. The debate over porting is decided by the management based off the current market and the costs. All I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 3.
It appears that the developers are developing the game with only the PS3 in mind. However, he does point out that management can decide to port the game over to the Xbox 360 if it makes sense from a financial perspective.
With Final Fantasy XIII selling roughly three times more on the PS3 (4.5 mil est.) than Xbox 360 (1.5 mil est.), I am curious to see if it will make sense to port the game. Clearly, the vast majority of the Xbox 360 gamers do not seem to care for Final Fantasy.

Depends on who you ask rimmer. I felt it was by everything I read but I believe there are ppl here that think it was done side by side.

As far as I was aware it was in development for the PS3 before MS “persuaded” SqE to develop it for the 360 as well so it seems pretty obvious that it is a port from the PS3.
I am not overly familiar with FF so could someone please explain to me the whole “versus” thing? Why isn’t this called FF14? and why is all the writing in the video mirrored?

FF14 is the MMO coming out.
FF games all take place in some different world than previous. The Main games are not related. Sometimes pin offs will occur in the same world.
FFX-2 was a spinoff of X and 13 versus will likely take place in the same “world” as 13.

Final Fantasy is just not what it once was anymore…too many drastic changes to the series. I heard ppl were canceling pre-order of FF14 after playing the beta.

@ rimmed: FF13 was very far into development when it was a PS3 exclusive only but when M$ threw loads of money at Square the game was put on hold for an entire year so they could butcher it and take out a lot of content so it could run smoothly on the Xbox.

Have you guys heard?
They just announced that they’re porting 13 to the 360 in Japan. In case you’re not familiar, it was a PS3 exclusive there.
So… I’ll bet there is a pretty good chance of 13vs getting ported as well.

Let me help you come up with a better statement.
Clearly, the vast majority of Final Fantasy fans were not very pleased with FFXIII, regardless of what system it was released on.
There now the statement is more truthful.

Yeah I missed 2. Supposedly the job system was pretty crappy in that one.
I’d actually like to check out the revised version of 3 for DS at some point.
