Capcom reboots Devil May Cry as ‘DMC’
Devil May Cry is back. As is the original hero of the series Dante. But you may not recognize him in the new and rebooted DMC.
Devil May Cry 4 was a hit, both critically and commercially. But there were some criticisms concerning the slow evolution of the series, and the fans didn’t wholly take to Dante’s replacement Nero. And Capcom has clearly taken the slight criticisms on board for what is essentially Devil May Cry 5 in all but title.
The first DMC trailer was unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, and it shows a complete re-imagining of the character although the gameplay seems to have remained pretty much the same.
Development duties for DMC have been handed to Ninja Theory, best known for PS3-exclusive Heavenly Sword. Ninja Theory Creative Director Tameem Antoniades said:
I’m very grateful and humbled to work with Capcom on such an important project. We hope to make a game even Dante would be proud of.
It looks promising at this early stage, but I just hope the baby hasn’t been thrown out with the bathwater. If Devil May Cry 4 had bombed then that would have been understandable, but I fear a fan backlash is too many essential DMC elements have been removed or altered beyond recognition.

I guess if the game is good then it won’t matter, but I think this isn’t such a great direction. Don’t like the music choice or character style.

It’s a bit too hip-hop, street ghetto for my liking lol. Even the new logo is street graffiti, so I say ‘Meh’
I just want a DMC that takes place after number 2, I’m fed up of prequals to DMC, I wanna know what happened after her rode into hell.

Oldschool’s description of Devil May Cry doesn’t sound too good. I will not be pleased if they ruin this game.

are capcom retarded? just make a devil may cry game where dante is the same as in the original, dont change anything and just make a proper sequel!!! that is what the fans want! not a new gay punky looking dante, and changing gameplay. .if it aint broke dont fix it!!! oh my god capcom are idiots and are ruining there games, look at resi 5 for example! i use to love capcom in the ps2 days, now there a bunch of fucking clowns. .LISTEN TO YOUR FUCKING FANS FOR ONCE!!!!!!!

I agree with SW. If it’s good, it’s good. I don’t like his new look or the direction they’re going in so far.
I never felt the DMC needed a reboot. Sure DMC4 could have been longer and less artificially lengthened, but it sill held it’s own as a game. I’m worried it’s going to lose it’s identity a bit with these drastic changes.
And No offense to Ninja Theory, and I have yet to try Enslaved but were they really the best people for the job, Heavenly Sword is a better presentation than it is a game in some instances. The game sometimes doesn’t know what type of game it wants to be. I wonder what part Andy Serkis will play in the new DMC?

Capcom will fail again.
…..it’s becmoing a trend for Capcom lately.
anybody has high hopes for Dead Rising 2?
September 16th, 2010
Dead Rising 2 for me went off my radar a while ago. There’s too many games that I would consider better games coming out in October for me to be excited about it. It will still probably sell very well on the 360. Looking at the prequel sales one would be led to believe that DR2 will do well. It’s just a meh in my book. I’ll look for it in the discount bin.

^ same here.

Ninja Theory is a good developer, but it’s not a good sign when the trailer leaves you with a meh feeling.
Dante looks like he was pulled straight out of Heavily Sword… or Enslaved. Do they have more than one artist at Ninja Theory?

“Ninja Theory is a good developer”
Look at their two previous titles:
Heavenly Sword – 79
Kung Fu Chaos – 68
You can tell Heavenly Sword was a big budget title because of the great mocap work, 6 animated short films/good graphics, etc…Probably mostly due becuse HW is a Sony owned IP and Sony’s Cambridge Studio helped NT developed Heavenly Sword.

I may talk my shit about HS, but I think it deserved that MC rating.
Some games IMO deserve higher than what they got.
Prince of Persia :TFS
Tomb Raider Underworld
and Dantes Inferno ,
to name a few.

Devil May Cry 4 was the first DMC game I ever purchased. I was impressed with the game and liked it very much! I remember 2 years ago a friend of mine introduce me to the DMC series by playing DMC 2 and 3 on my PS3.
I thought the game was spooky back then dealing with Hell, demons, etc. but it caught my attention
Anyways if that trailer is the new DMC5 then consider me a one time customer Cockcom
. Whatsup with companies ruining or killing off the main characters lately?? It’s getting annoying! Shall I name a few?….Prison Break=Michael Scofield dies, DMC, Halo Reach=Master Chief, etc….

@TFOS
Master chief ??
September 16th, 2010
Spoiler alters!!
I never beat DMC 4… I haven’t seen a lot of Prison Breaks… I kinda knew Master Chief died though.
September 17th, 2010
Master Chief?
Such a dumb name. I also can’t stand the biker looking helmet. Poor design all around.

Damn I remember seeing this DMC3 trailer back in the day
youtube.com/watch?v=SCqjjgi2MJg
And now we have Dante-Emo. Great.
September 18th, 2010
and here i was hoping to see him in Halo 4, who knew he died
September 18th, 2010
THIS HAS BETTER BE LIKE :
- my name is Dante.
- hey thats my name too. Trish who the hell is this punk kid that looks as if he’s from a twilight movie.
not cool, Ninja theory… not cool.
September 19th, 2010
first of all, master cheif didn’t die. Second, his name is John. Thrid, they might do a new game with him again. Fourth, halo reach was great, though that’s opinons based.
Now back to the thread. I’m sure the gaME will be fun, but i also agree that changing the game into “another universe” instead of making a true sequel , after 2′s kinda fail, wasn’t bright. However, i won’t complain to ninja theory, i’m sure theyre trying theyre best to make us interested. However, at THE VERY LEAST they could have kept his trademark silver hair and his joking personality.
