Time to ditch the Wii for Move or Kinect?
Playstation Move is now out in North America and Europe, and Xbox 360 Kinect is due out in November in all territories. Is the Wii’s time now up?
The Wii has been a phenomenal success, with Nintendo selling more consoles than anyone thought it would this generation. But the Wii is already in decline, and the release of Move on the PS3 and Kinect on the Xbox 360 is only likely to accelerate that decline.
Product Reviews asks whether it’s actually worth selling your Wii in order to get a PS3 with Move. And in a few weeks the same question can be asked in relation to an Xbox 360 with Kinect.
I personally can’t see many families giving up their Wii only to shell out more money on buying new hardware and new games. However, were a family to be looking at buying their first games console this holiday then I can well see them choosing the PS3 or Xbox 360 over the Wii.

The Wii is dead. Well at least in Japan.
I guess if the Wii got any real support from 3rd parties then it would still be fine, but it is really dying. Too bad to, as I don’t want my money to be wasted by letting it sit, I have been trying to play it.

I don’t know.. the Wii was dead in ’08 and ’09, but 2010 has been pretty solid. It’s had a steady stream of good games: Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid, Mickey, Kirby, Donkey Kong, 007. And Zelda early 2011.
So I won’t count them out just yet. But who knows, maybe it won’t get any solid releases for another few years. You never know.

Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is another game I want to play this year… also the Wii has the best collection of past console games compared to the HD consoles.

Wii is not dead yet
Wii install base is 80M vs Kinect and Move’s 0M. I don’t think neither of them will make a dent on the Wii because they are being released so late and they don’t come packaged with every Xbox or PS3.

How is the Wii Dead when is excels in game sales. First party yes but it’s pretty much Nintendo and Microsoft that dominate the Top 10 game sales. The Wii has good First party games coming and already launched and the Motion control on the Wii is just fine the way it is. I don’t have issues playing the Wii and the games feel on point with the controls. It still beats the PS3 in monthy sales so it’s no where near dead

Having experienced both, I can tell that the Move is years ahead of the Wii.
September 19th, 2010
Roca I’m sure it is but I still can’t play Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario, Metroid or Kirby with a Move controller. I’m sure a hack will come along eventually.

Just completed Halo Reach. Easily the best in the Halo series. Enjoyed it a lot.
September 19th, 2010
How cool is the epilogue? lol
September 19th, 2010
Car,
Sin and Punishment is on my list. I finally played Muramasa. I only played for a few hours, but it seems really cool. It has a very old school feel to it.
As far as VC, the selection is pretty good, but it seems a little over priced.

@CAD
what’s your point? we were talking about motion controls and those games you mentioned barely use any type of motion imput.
September 20th, 2010
@ Roca
I have been blatantly criticizing Sony for the lack of games for the young ones leaving Mario virtually no competition.
Now that Sony has nailed down the ‘killer hardware’ it is time for the ‘killer app’ along the lines of Sonic the Hedgehog or Crash Bandicoot.
For now Eye Pet & Let’s Start the Party will do.

I just read that PS3 just passed the Wii in sales for this year.

” And in a few weeks the same question can be asked in relation to an Xbox 360 with Kinect.”
LMFAO Not a chance. I wouldn’t trade my Monopoly game for the POS Kinetic.

“I have been trying to play it.”
LOL but it suck ass.

“Wii is not dead yet”
@Roca
Yes it is and buying one will be more of a waste then you did buying a 360.

“Roca I’m sure it is but I still can’t play Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario, Metroid or Kirby with a Move controller. I’m sure a hack will come along eventually.”
We played those games already CAD. I want new games in HD. Not shit games that makes you wave a wand like a fairy. I guess that is your attraction to it hay? You get the act like a fairy? No one said it is going to make the PS3 move outsell the Wii total.
Move could cut into Wii sales.
September 20th, 2010
exactly..
CAD should just get a PS3 and be done with it.

“Just completed Halo Reach. Easily the best in the Halo series. Enjoyed it a lot.”
I have completed it on normal and have already started a new playthrough on legendary going solo, have to say its the hardest game out there
Definitely loved the ending and the level after the credits (lonewolf/spartans never die) was quite touching..
September 20th, 2010
I’ve definitely played harder games. Obviously just comparing the normal to the normal of other games. Played about 30 minutes of Legendary so fay and Killzone 2′s elite is definitely a lot harder.
The epilogue was very cool, I swear I’ve seen it done somewhere before but I can’t quite place it :s
Did ya see Master Chief on the Pillar of Autumn? lol
September 21st, 2010
Killzone 2′s Elite is fucking intense..
Resistance 1 and 2′s “Super Human” difficulty is almost impossible to beat.

OK Oldschool I find that hard to believe Because I did not find Killzone hard but the controls were messed up. Really Halo Reach is the Hardest game and AI I have ever encountered. Go play on Legenday and turn all the skulls on and tell me if Killzone is Harder. I played the first two missions on Heroic and had 11 skulls on. That was just crazy. No Sheild recharge, Enemies have full armour, Enemies has double the life, Enemies dodge twice a much, Enemies throw double the grenades and I can’t remember the rest but it was crazy and lots of fun. I did that playing Co-Op with two other people.

Did ya see Master Chief on the Pillar of Autumn? lol
Thanks for the spoiler. So is 6 really master cheif. That’s my theory.
September 21st, 2010
So Roca how is Lost Odyssey
September 21st, 2010
nope Cad noble 6 cant be master chief, since noble 6 could be a woman or man depending on the player’s preference while master chief aka john 117 is male..
@oldschool
Unlike you i am already on 6 chapter on Legendary and so far it outdoes other difficult fps games esp cod world at war on insane/legendary
I ll be playing killzone 2 soon and then we ll see

The Problems with the Playstation Move
The PlayStation Move has only officially been around for just over a day now and already the Internet is buzzing with how awesome it is but at the same time there is quite a lot of noise being made around it’s possible failings.
I have tried to collate the most common and reasonable complaints being levelled against the Move as well as some unexpected commentary about it’s ability to sense motion.
It’s just going to be used for mini game extravaganza’s
The most popular complaint already is that while Sony are trying to show that the Move has endless possibilities the main launch titles look like they are just going to be more mini game compilations.
This isn’t so much a problem as a fear for a lot of people that I do not share, mini games are fun and as always if you don’t like what’s on offer don’t buy it.
No motion control in the Nunchuck
Yes I realise it’s meant to be called the sub-controller but that’s a stupid name and it looks just like the Wii Nunchuck so let’s keep it at that.
Back to the point, this nunchuck adaptor has absolutely no motion sensitivity and is simply a holder for the analogue stick and buttons, which means if you want to have a go at boxing you will need 2 Move controllers… as will your friend next to you bringing a minimum investment of 4 controllers to any logical household.
This same problem exists for the swordplay game where the second Move controller is used for the shield and for any future games like archery we run into the same problem.
This one’s a biggy so hopefully Sony put a motion controller in the nunchuck before it gets released.
It’s going to cost a fortune to kit yourself out
Gizmodo has done some simplistic calculations and has come up with a price of between $430 & $550 (R5000-R6000) to get enough controllers so that 4 people can all join in locally… luckily the next problem resolves this one.
You can’t have 4 players using the Move and Nunchuck controller at the same time
The PS3 can handle a whopping 8 devices connected to it at one time which at first makes you think that it could easily handle the 8 devices that it would need to connect 4 Move’s and 4 Nunchuck’s to enable full 4 player gaming.
However Sony only has a support for 7 devices to connect via Bluetooth… not sure why that is, so it means that you can only have 3 player full motion control gaming.
Wrong, according to Sony you can have 4 people playing using the Move or 2 people with a Move and Nunchuck. Weird.
The look of it
It looks like a dildo, there is no getting around that.
Complaints
“I was disappointed with the amount of real innovation we saw. In terms of ideas, it is very similar to what we have seen with the Wii and if you are Sony, you can’t help but want to ape that success” Guy Cocker – Gamespot UK Editor
“PlayStation Move isn’t that innovative. It doesn’t do anything that differently than the Wii but everyone feels they need to get into this space,” Dan Ackerman – CNet.com Senior Editor
I can’t wait to give it a go but right now I am not busting a gut to play any of the games that I have seen. It may be far more accurate and responsive than the Wii’s controller but after that it doesn’t really offer much else.
On the positive side the feedback on it’s responsiveness has been immaculate, it really is far superior to the Wiimote.

During TQcast’s PlayStation Move event, a major flaw was discovered on the PS Move. The PS move hates bright lighting.
TQcast hosted their PS Move Live party outdoors and had a hard time calibrating the PS Move controllers, due to the brightness outside. Apparently, bright lighting interferes with the PS Move calibration as it failed to detect or calibrate the controller. This was not under direct sunlight, the setup was stationed within a shaded patio, with sunlight coming through a few angles. Check out the video below.

@ CAD, it weren’t a spoiler, it’s more of an easter egg. You won’t see him unless you know where to look. And come on he sounds totally different to Master Chief, has anyone actually thought that? lmfao! That would be the stupidest twist of all time. It’s better how it does play out.
Also Halo might be harder than Killzone 2, I wouldn’t know, I’m just going by initial impressions and Killzone seems harder and so does the ‘Heart of Reich’ level in World at War. But I still think Killzone 2 has the better Campaign, it’s a lot more intense. That’s just me though.

“OK Oldschool I find that hard to believe Because I did not find Killzone hard but the controls were messed up.”
@CAD
You’re definitely lying – Elite difficulty only becomes available after you beat the game. Good luck trying to beat that one and don’t blame the control, its part of the game. On “Easy” mode the game is a walk in the park with the same controls so that’s not an excuse.
Now the hardest FPS is Resistance 1 and 2 on “Super Human” difficulty, unlike most FPS (like CoD: WaW) where they just weaken you, make bullets deal more damanage or as CAD said (about Reach) “Enemies has double the life”…Super Human difficulty makes the AI much smart that it seems like you’re play other live players. They will flank you, if you hide behind something they will make you come out by throwing all kinds of granades at you, if you a low on health and you go to a safe place to regen they will chase the fuck out you.

“So Roca how is Lost Odyssey”
@CAD
not bad, but I only played for about 20 mins. I havent played it ever since because it’s time consuming and most of my gaming time is being spent on the chunk of PS3 games that I want to finish before all the ‘holiday’ games come out -
Working on Borderlands, Bioshock 2, ModNation Racers, 3D Dot Heroes, SSFIV, Castle Crasher, Force Unleashed (which I bought like a week ago)

Roca I never said I played on Elite Difficulty. Read before you type LOL.
September 22nd, 2010

Roca sorry but when your use to Games like Gears that sport better controls it becomes easy to criticize Killzone controls.
September 22nd, 2010
You could’ve easily change the control layout on KZ2 to make it COD-style.

Sounds just like legendary difficulty, elites are brutal on legendary and then u have to fight vehicles too..
September 22nd, 2010
The AI on Halo is top notch, I was impressed how they fired a few rounds and changed position all the time. There was a few idiots bombing themselves and shooting walls but that was rare. I’m not flaming here but being honest when I say the AI in K2 is a hell of a lot more impressive. Still ain’t been blown away as much as the 1st time playing K2 and seeing how the Helghast react to everything.
September 23rd, 2010
well oldschool who’s played them both say KZ2 is more challenging and the AI is on KZ2 is smarter.
September 23rd, 2010
I won’t argue these points as I never played either one of their toughest difficulty, but it appears that OS has and has settled it/
@CAD and Toshi.
Have either one of you played both KZ2 and Halo Reach on it’s most difficult setting?
