Tsunoda: Kinect made for non-gamers
We all suspected Kinect was made with casual gamers in mind, but actually, Microsoft wanted to go further than that and attract non-gamers as well.
Kinect creative director Kudo Tsunoda recently spoke to VentureBeat about the new Xbox 360 add-on the creation of which he oversaw from beginning to end. Nothing in the interview (embedded in full below) is that surprising really. But it’s still interesting to hear the thinking behind Microsoft’s new full-body, no-controller-necessary motion control system.
Basically, about three years ago the gaming division at Microsoft had a meeting to discuss ways the Xbox 360 could fight back against the Wii and its phenomenal sales success. “I know,” they thought, “Let’s copy Nintendo’s strategy but take away the controller completely.” And that exactly what they did.
A gamble? Sure. A way of possibly scaring hardcore gamers off? Definitely. But if Kinect truly does entice non-gamers (and their parents) into buying an Xbox 360 then it’ll be a genius move on Microsoft’s part. And if Oprah’s audience is anything to go by they may just pull it off.

I’m pretty sure ms said it has for hard core gamers when it was fist announced. Now the the tech shows they can’t do any better than the eyetoy it’s for non gamers. So according to that guy it is for people who want the media experience of the 360 but are too stupid to navigate via a controller. Enjoy CAD.

Also, you shouldn’t be playing the Kinect with the old Xbox360 because it is going to cause the Xbox360 to overheat and fail. Kinect will be just too much for the system to handle.

Well obviously they’ll be KINDA different, but please try not to ignore the blatant attempts to cash in on other’s succeses. They steal ideas, change it slightly, and then boast they’re innovative and original.
Couple of examples
-The Xbox 3fixme itself. Why is it able to stand vertically? Cos the PS2 could. Remember, the original Xbox couldn’t, nor had any indication that it was safe to do so, so why did they do hat?
-The Xbox 3fixme’s Avatars. It is a fully HD capable system, yet they resemble Miis FAR too closely. Again, there was no necessity for Avatars in the first place, yet they happen to create them out of thin air.
-Xbox Live. No matter how much you want to believe Xbox Live was first, PS2 was the first console that allowed internet play.
-Kinect. BLATANT rip-off of Eye-Toy and Wii. I don’t have to go in detail, as others have already done this justice.
-LB and RB. Clear rip-off of L1 and R1, which have been around since PS1.

PS2 was not the first console that allowed internet play. That would be the Dreamcast. While being able to play online on consoles was nothing new the original Xbox had several innovations and the 360 just followed up on that and innovated further. Seriously, a few of us already had this conversation here not long ago.
LB and RB? Thats just natural evolution of controllers. It’s not like PS1 was the first controller to have shoulder buttons. MS messed up on the original Xbox controler with the White and Black buttons. LB and RB was the solution.

Ahh, but playstation added the secondary shoulder buttons, did they not? M$ added shoulders to their admittedly brilliant trigger concept, after examining the Dualshock. Alas, this is M$’s modus operandi. They examine what worked for other companies and slightly modify things.

Operative words here are “Eye-Toy” and “AND”
2. It is common knowledge Sony had motion gaming in development LONG before the Wii debuted. The Six-Axis attests to this. They were developing the tech to integrate with their motion gaming concept. There is also information that Sony was using a wand-like peripheral in the early 2000s. This information is easily found. You aren’t so thick that you can’t use Google, I’m sure.

Ahh it’s cause I sucked the sack and bought the S model, and I’ll be damned if I sell my white one to gamestop, so I’m trying to sell it to regular people. No buyers yet though…. I wonder why.

But I actually originally owned a 360 first and I keep it because me grandmum bought me Rock Band 2 two Xmases ago, and I downloaded a lot of songs. But I’m pissed because I bought the $20 transfer cable (that should have bloody well came with the 360 S because you pretty much NEED it. Fucking M$ and their nickel and diming!!) and deleted half my song cache!! I would have physically given the 360 S the RRoD ( which is technically impossible) had it not cost 300 dollars LOL

Totally Understandable, without XBL Halo is just another mediocre shooter with average graphics and a short ass campaign.

Ncaissie, my Mom told me twice about the Xbox360 and I ignored her. The day after I got the launch Xbox360 she walked in my room and told me that the Xbox360 was a poorly made piece of hardware. I didn’t want to hear this but she was right. It was revealed later that the Xbox360 had a massive failure rate. I told her that I was going to buy the new Xbox360. She told me to leave the system alone and stick with the Ps3 but I didn’t listen to her again.

I had waited in line for hours to get this system. The last thing I wanted to hear was that the system that I stayed out all night getting was a piece of crap but it ended up being true. The Xbox360 has the worse failure rate of any electronic system in history. The system should have been recalled but people let Microsoft skirt around this issue by offering a three year warranty. Any other electronic item would have been recalled by now.

I will have to dismount my high horse and say I think the 360 S is surprisingly well built. But these things tend to happen when they copy PS. You know, like the Dualshock winning all sorts of rewards and then 3fixme adds RB and LB and it’s hailed as the best controller EVER whilst people shite on the Dualshock despite it pretty much not changing at all.
But one area they’ve failed– the fan is STILL LOUD. I never hear my PS3 (slim). I usually turn both systems on (doing DVD comparison tests) and the WHOOOOOOOOOSH is definitely noticeable

Xbox Live Silver: great overall service, achievement system is truly the most innovative feature here
Xbox Live Gold: complete trash, ripoff
Copycats: copied Sonys dual triggers, copied Sonys GT franchise with lameo forza, copied sony hdmi standard, copied sonys wifi standard, nintendos miis and motion movement….etc
That’s about it…let’s check out Sony..
PSN: great service that started out rough, able to achieve every feature on Silver/Gold…all for free…
Exclusivity: Sony is number one in terms of quantity, 1st in quality, 2d in caliber to nintendo when it comes to exclusive games….MS can’t touch Sony here…
Copycats: copied MS’ achievments,I.e trophies, copied but made Gold look stupid in the process, MS ‘tiered’ service, copied Nintendo motion movement

So Birdbrain is another one of those kids who have no clue about what he’s talking about. I’ll destroy this kid, I can’t even bother because I’m so tired of this conversation. Just redo your check list and you find about 90% of the PS3 is a 360/Wii. In fact no one does more copying then Sony and the word innovation belongs no where near the name Sony unless your talking about a disk format or a camera but that’s about it.
