Donkey Kong Country Returns… with a 9.5 out of 10 review from Game Informer
Can the greatness of the Rare-produced Donkey Kong games seep through to the new Donkey Kong Country Returns? It seems so, just maybe.
I loved the Donkey Kong Country games: they were near-perfect slices of platforming action which give me a spark of happy remembrance every time I think back to those heady days of the SNES. If something is perfect (or as near as damn it) then why change it?
That seems to be the idea behind Donkey Kong Country Returns, which is being released on the Wii on Nov. 21 in the U.S. and before Christmas elsewhere.
Rare may not be involved any longer, but the game seems to have retained that quality that made them jump off the screen at you. And I have to say the trailer makes me want to play.
The first review for Donkey Kong Country Returns has already come in, with Game Informer awarding the game an impressive 9.5 out of 10. Other reviews may not be as positive, other reviewers not so impressed, but it could be that the Wii has just added another top-notch platformer to its name.

Game Informer loves Nintendo but I have to say DK Returns looks so damn good. I have been tempted to get a Wii just for it.
“Rare may not be involved any longe” – Maybe that’s a good thing

Funny how you say things like “GI loves Nintendo”. GI is one of the best reviewers out there. I think their reviews more acturrately reflect my own feelings towards games.
The reviewers themselves are just as enthusiasctic about games as we are and even after years of reveiwing they still have the straight forward style they always had.

Thanx and you’re welcome.

@FahKin
what’s wrong with saying GI loves Nintendo?

Actually for the most part, GI is usually pretty good. They are totally off base now and then through.

Every reviewer has their on days and off days, but GI seems to be on the money more than other reviwers.
Just as an example i want to bring up that douchebag who gave AC2 a very shitty and controversial rating. Most reviewers gave it a very good rating, and even most of us here on the Blorge said it was an incredible game. Obviously that douchebag had an off day. WAY off.

I have to clarify, that douchebag reviwer wasn’t with GI. My post there kinda makes it sounds like he was.
I think GI gave AC2 a 9 though.

This game looks pretty darn good.
That said, Nintendo gets an ill-deserved reputation for making good games. On the contrary– they just remake and remake and remake and remake old games. Pokemon, smash bros, DK, mario, zelda, metriod, mario kart. They hardly innovate, but these games get high scores because of their nostalgia factor. That’s sickening to me, especially when Sony gets flack for games being too similar to their predecessors. But hell, if Sony remade Gex or Jet Moto, put me down for the pre-order

“Jet Moto”
I will love to see Evolution Studios [Motorstorm devs] make this happen…

Yeah, it’d be interesting. But no crashing slo-down. I hate when devs use ideas from other games in new projects, like NFS Hot pursuit having Burnout style crashes. Me No Want
November 16th, 2010
Yeah, NFS felt too much like a burnout game.
I found it funny that DICE also worked on NFS: Hot Persuit – seems like DICE is involved in almost every EA game. I can’t blame EA, DICE is a great development studio

I tried the game as the cop and felt the controls a bit too tight for a arcade like Burnout game. It just seemed like it was way to easy to lose control. Then I’d compensate for the loss of control which would just cause more loss of control.
The game is getting good reviews so it must just be me.

If anyone does Jet Moto, it would be either be Eat Sleep Play or Lightbox. Those two studios are probably the only two that retain any of the original developers.
ESP is still working on Twisted Metal and Lightbox is working on Starhawk.
Both studios are way too small to take on jet moto and have it out before this gen ends.
