Gamer not important in Call of Duty: Black Ops single player campaign
There is a bit of controversy over a video showing a gamer waltzing through the first level of the Call of Duty: Black Ops without firing a single bullet. This has caused many to question if the game is scripted to a point where the player doesn’t matter anymore.
The difference between a movie and a video game is the user’s ability to interact and impact the outcome of the story. In a video game, there would be no story progression without the player’s interaction.
As pointed out by CVG, this is exactly what some gamers are saying about Black Ops. A gamer uploaded a video of the first mission where he makes it through the level without killing anyone. The NPCs pretty much cleared the path for the player and the story continued to proceed without the gamers’ input.
It almost seemed like the NPCs in Black Ops were the main characters and you’re just a bystander. Its possible that Treyarch may have overpowered the NPCs in the game accidentally, or just figured that no one would find out that its all smoke and mirrors.
Its a little disappointing that the game is scripted to this degree, but does it really matter if you weren’t aware of it in the first place?

Really? People care about this? This is pretty much how a handful of shooters are… I’ve run through “No Russian,” every Favela mission (MW2), a couple missions on Halo 3, a few missions on Gears 2, the beginning of Killzone 2 (except when I had to kill to progress), etc. My point is, this isn’t new, and you can do this in many games.

I just finally got Modern Warfare 2 last week. paid $18 for it on Amazon. I pretty much finished it in 1 day. Took me 8 and 1/2 hours to beat the single player mode lol. Fun but short and definately had some lose ends that really needed to be tied up. the end was fucking awsome though.
One of my coworkers has Black Ops and he beat it in 1 day too. He says it isn’t that great and that MW2 is better. He is going to let me borrow it at least lol. I want to see it for myself.
Multiplayer looks somewhat fucked up. Ive heard some complaints about the remote control cars being way too overpowered. I’m thinking Great! More knife perk BS. lol
Besides that I am hearing about how footsteps are WAY too loud and you can hear people comming from a mile away

Whoa Soap is Scottish. Let’s make that distinction clear. I really have a hard time understanding how Americans cannot distinguish between Irish and Scottish accents.
