Jerk hospitalized playing Dance Central

November 19, 2010

Technology is only ever as good as its user, and it’s also only ever as safe as its user. So, pair a moron up with Kinect and you have an accident waiting to happen.

As soon as Kinect was launched at the beginning of November, videos of people (usually young kids getting in the way) being injured while using the new Xbox 360 motion control system showed up. But today saw a ramping up in the injury stakes, with Joe Donato declaring himself the “first moron hospitalized playing Kinect.”

Donato was playing Dance Central, as he had been doing for hours since buying Kinect, when ‘Teach Me How To Jerk’ (embedded below) caused his kneecap to pop out of its joint. Donato was carried out of his house on a stretcher by paramedics, and had it popped back in by a doctor a few hours later.

This may be the first (at least that we know of) incident of someone being injured badly enough to be hospitalized, but I doubt it’ll be the last. The problem is that Kinect (and Move and the Wii) change gaming from a sedentary activity to an active one. And people then overdo it and end up being injured in bizarre ways. Which people then write about on the Web for others to laugh at.

My respone: What do you call a pack of mol idiots?…..A pack of molasses.

Wow that looks hard. Dance Central is an amazing game for Kinect. I have it too and I said I wan’t going to play it as it’s for the wife but eventually it happened when people come over and want you to do it. I must say I was really impressed. I was showing some people yesterday and I saw some other songs and I can’t believe some of the moves it teaches you. I had no idea the human body can do such things and I think I’m an OK dancer but this thing will make you a pro. To bad for dude but that song looks hard. I wonder what level he was doing? I don’t dare step out of easy.

Ok Cad…I’ll reason with you. Give me a fair assesment of Kinect please? Tell me why I should buy Kinect as I’m possibly considering. I’ll admit the fighting and workout games trigger my interest as I would love to fight in a video game using my whole body as a weapon :-)

Honestly dude I love it. Not all games are worth getting but right now I’ll say if your going to get it the for sure titles are Kinect Sports, Dance Central and Your Shape. Sonic OK to but that’s on you if you like that kind of gameplay. Just don’t have anyone jump in on the menu on Sonic or else your going to have porblems. Looking forward to trying Fighters Uncaged, Motion Sports, Deca Sports freedom, Game party in motion and Harry Potter in the near future.

Also beyond gaming Menu Navigation is very cool with kinect especially when viewing movies. Video Kinect is also another feature where you can video chat or message another person with Kinect or someone on a PC using Windows Live Messenger. I’ve tried it and it works flawlessly. Kinect can also be paired with Microsoft new conferencing tool called Lync which was launched last week. An update is coming soon to enable it for home business use. Also when palying games online or parties or private chats or any kind of voice communication you don’t need a headset as you can just talk kinect will hear you. I haven’t used my headset since owning kinect.

  15. CAD:

Oh and apparently in the future Kinect will also be able to do video with Phones.

Nice! Is there a delay response in using Kinect (voice chatting, video play, & gaming) or is it in real time? Maybe now I can compete against the AI doing pushups ;) lol.

  17. phranctoast:

    wow..

    really innovative.

  18. CarlB:

Dance, Fitness, and Sports… I get it, Kinect can do it, and it will continue to sell millions because of it, I’d still just like to see a gamer’s game for it before I purchase.

Voice chatting works like it always did but now minus the headset if you want. Just set the voice to come through the TV and just talk out loud and poeple can hear you. Kinect has 4 Mics that work very well. No one has told me they can’t hear me and that’s PC or Xbox. Video quality is decent. it’s no HD but it’s good. They is a slight delay in the video like if you move your hand you will see a shadow. Not sure if it because I have a older LCD that at 60mhz and no gaming mode. What I really like about the video part is that you can move around and the camera follows you. If someone jumps into the scene the camers zooms out and captures all parties. It works very well. As for gaming I’ve always said there was a delay but this delay is very minimal. Some games it near bang on like in Dance Central and Your shape. Kinect sports is also very minimal lag and all the titles work very well. In fact every game I recommnded are solid titles. I’m also impressed the way it can pick up spin and speed in different games. I ask this lag question to everybody and it the same thing every time. They say it’s there but they say they don’t notice it because you adjust and then you don’t notice it because it’s so minimal and that’s the truth I find too. A good percentag pbobably 95% of people said they were going to buy it and some have alrady. I mean how can you play table tennis on Professional which is the third of the 4 levels before Pro and the computer is firing this ball back at you at very fast speeds yet I can hit it. Kinect works and thats the bottom line.

I have to tell you though the future of teabaging is going to be awesome. So I decided to play with a friend who was at my house and we went online and battled two other guys in Table tennis online. It was so awesome bcause everything your doing your avatar is doing. These guys were doing the running man and bending over and showing us thir asses and acting the fool so we decided to do the same thing back. I was mooning and doing the suck it motion where you pump both your fist towards your cock everytime I owned them but sadly they beat us all three times. They were good. I could hear them and they could hear us and no headsets needed. We had good laughs playing Kinect online with those guys.

That’s good because all signs point to Fighters Uncaged being an Epic Fail:

Yeah this is what families want to see with kinect shit.
Exactly why this will never fly. I would never let my kids play against perverted on a camera.
Glad you liked seeing guys asses though CAD.

LOL it’s not that serious. You act like you could see real asses. It’s an avatar dude lol. It’s no different then what goes on in controller games. Besides letting her play gods of war is a much better and adult thing to do.
