Gran Turismo 5 review copies shipped Monday – don’t expect ‘complete’ reviews yet

November 24, 2010

Gran Turismo 5 review copies shipped Monday - don't expect 'complete' reviews yet Gran Turismo 5 launched today and the review scores have started trickling out. There is only a handful of reviews out thus far and they have mostly been positive. If you are expecting full reviews from most major sites you will have to wait a bit as the review copies were shipped just two days ago.

Just two days is hardly enough time to fully review a behemoth of a game like Gran Turismo 5. For those who have played GT games in the past you know that its a game that grows on you.

As you progress through the single player campaign earning more licenses and faster track timings provides a sense of exhilaration that takes over you. With licenses for NASCAR, World Rally Championship and Super GT, the game is practically three times bigger than any other race game.

There is currently only 10 or so reviews out comprising of a few major media outlets and several smaller sites. If you are waiting on all the reviews, I would give it about two week before Gran Turismo 5 gets the full gamut of reviews.

Gran Turismo 5 is probably the most anticipated game of this generation, so I have a feeling most of you will probably go out today and get it regardless of lack of reviews out now.

  1. ncaissie:

Why not? According to Kushy IGN has fully reviewed it and gave it a 8.5.

  2. ncaissie:

    Here is a tempting deal.

    ^
Yes it is a tempting deal….if you’re looking for a piece of shit! lol ;)

  4. ncaissie:

    LMAO $250 POS

  5. gunstar:

We don’t need freaking reviews for such a game like GT5

because it ain’t no shooter & its the only one of its kind. This is one of those top reasons why Sony must invest on a PS3 or Blu-Ray technology.

Seriously how can a reviewer give a final verdict based on the single player mode alone? That is just plain paid stupidity.

No freaking reviews from IGN’s xbotic Martin Robinson will convince even the most die hard 360 gamer not to play this game. And there is an ongoing petition to fire this guy out of IGN just like that guy who gave God of War III a low score. He is now a marked man.

And please have mercy. No Forza comparisons please. Its unfair. It makes Forza look like a PS2 game.

had this game pre-ordered and waiting to drive.

  6. The Future of Sega:

It’s been 5 loooong years…This game better be a flawless victory! Anything less than a 9.5 then I’m not buying it. Speaking of which…how the hell did Halo Reach received a 9.5 on Gamespot given how shitty it is!?

Halo 2, 3, ODST, AND Reach have ALL received the same score!?? Hmm smells like deception to me ;)

  7. Barnabe Jones:

Just think, while you’re playing GT5, CAD will be experiencing the best racing game ever created – Kinect Racerz.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times… you can’t spell IGNorant without IGN.

  8. The Future of Sega:

    LOL that’s a good one Barnabee. :D

  9. Liquid:

LOL @ kinect racers. . .i actually think CAD has lost it completely, i mean he use to be harcore online gamer and a diehard 360 fagboy (which he still is) but now he is obsessed with kinect! he is even putting down shooters etc. . in favour of casual games.
just look at the CAD now compared to the one a year ago, im telling you guys he is gone cuckoo.

  10. oldschool1987:

Yeah the Halo reviews are pathetic, they all play the same to the previous ones and get high scores, it’s stupid.

And GT5 has been getting ‘OK’ scores, not as high as I expected it to be :(

  11. Roca.:

I just got GT5… it’s a lil slow at the beginning because you have to buy shitting car in order to complete the first few career events..

Everthing looks great and it drives and feel like a real life car… but the car damage is nothing to go crazy about, at least with what I’ve seen so far with the standard cars.

  12. CarlB:

“you have to buy shitting car”

Is this the new line of environmentally friendly cars people have been talking about?

  13. oldschool1987:

@ Carl: Yes it is lol

  14. oldschool1987:

    It runs on manure

  15. The Future of Sega:

The hell with it…I’ll just make my own FUCKING video games since developers are falling short of expectations! The reviews of GT5 have seriously pissed me off!

I just feel like burning my PS3 and tossing it into a sewer. I purchased a PS3 4 years ago and I’m STILL waiting for the justification of the $599 price tag!…STILL!!!!

I wish I had bought a PS2 back in the day but I went with Xbox. And now I’m starting to feel the same way again -_-

Seriously guys does Gran Turismo 5 deserve a 9.5 or higher? Be honest please. I may just drop my PS3 off the bridge downtown….

  16. CaptBirdman:

    @Carl

WTF?? Why do u not have this yet??

For anyone interested- I have a great replay in the ’10 SS Camaro I’ll upload. It’s pretty boss.

  17. kev:

well, well…hello fanboys! long time no see.

apparently the 10/10 scores predicted by Roca, Ivan and the other ps3 fangirls have fallen flat.

it’s sad that Mike has to resort to a damage-control article like this to try to convince people the GT ship isn’t sinking….

judging from the reviews around the net, GT5 has serious performance issues with graphics (shadowing, damage modeling), physics (more arcade-sim racing), AI, and car models..

why is sony charging $70 per GT5 game when most of the cars are using ps2 (last gen) models simply upscaled? bleh…..

on the bright side tho, Mike Ferro, Ivan, Roca and the other sony fangirls are convinced this game will propel the sales of the ps3 waaaay past those of the 360. Let’s watch, shall we…? hee, hee…

  18. kev:

TFOS – buy Forza 3. It’s a much, much more realistic, and enjoyable racer than GT5. Good luck!

  19. Rhino:

It’s 1:38pm local time and I’ve just got my Collectors Edition.

Salivating at the thought of GT5 tonight!!!

  20. CarlB:

    @Cap,

Not really a racing simulator (or even racing game) fan. I may still give it a shot, but it’s not high on my priority list.

  21. Roca.:

    @Rhino
I got the collectors edition as well – pretty bad ass.
I saw Harry playing GT5 all day long today, he’s from Aus too.

    @CarlB
What are you guys going to do about N. Korea?

  22. Rhino:

    Hopefully fuck em over.

  23. CarlB:

    @Roca,

It’s up to the CiC and Congress now.

  24. CaptBirdman:

“What are you guys going to do about N. Korea?”

Don’t give CON a reason to comment ;)

But I have relatives in Korea. I want the U.S. to just stick a couple Lockheed rounds up N. Korea’s arse. I’m right tired of their antics. But I know if the U.S does act, China will try something against us.

If that’s the case we’ll (in the words of my best friend in the U.S. Navy) “we droppin’ warheads on foreheads” :D

  25. Godless:

Hmm not the overwhelming response I was expecting from you PS3 fanboys.

Too busy slagging of the xbox again and not giving critical opinion of the GT5 game. .Predictable if nothing else.

I will get a chance to GT5 it over the weekend some time. Mate just texted to say he got it. And I have no idea why he bought it because the closest he’s got to a racing sim is Motorstorm, whith any luck, he’ll hat it and I’ll get it home for the weekend.
I’ll let you know what I think of it, on Monday.

  26. Godless:

    @ ncaissie

Hey thanks for the link. .great deal. .Xbox,Foza3 and Wake , still leaves $50 for another game before I have spent what I would on a stand alone P$3. .Nice.

And holy shit $60 for a controller! Why are the peripherals so dammed expensive? .I can get a wireless controller for £22 here in the UK

  27. ncaissie:

“I’ll let you know what I think of it, on Monday.”
No one cares what you think.

  28. ncaissie:

    There is 4 games.

  29. ncaissie:

Yesterday it said there are two other games added to the order on checkout. They are gone today.

  30. The Future of Sega:

North Korea is a lonely place. Can you imagine living in a country with no cell phone, limited tv, and being forced to wake up at 7am to worship the “Great” Leader?

I’m glad that I’m American! lol. But on a serious note I feel sorry for the people trapped in that country. North Korea is obviously planning something big and when it happens….it will probably initiate W.W.3.

  31. The Future of Sega:

Lol I sent Ivan a message on youtube but he marked all of my comments as spam lmao. What a wiener ;P

  32. ncaissie:

    I believe they are also.

  33. Godless:

Why has this thread about GT5 turned into a political discussion?
Is there something wrong with GT5? ;^ )

  34. dans303:

    @Cockless

    NO!

  35. Godless:

    :^ )

    Danny boy. .

Look, I’ve just spent the entire morning reading up on GT5. .the game is certainly not all it was cracked up to be.

Damage modelling . .Laughable. Most and I repeat MOST driving games that bother to include damage of any kind, look to have implemented it better than GT5 . unless the GT5 cars are made of some kind of alien grade alloys then the damage modelling is shit worse than Forza 3

Dust / rain effects. .appalling last gen style rendering. .

Frame rate. .probably the single most important factor in a racing sim. Even since the PS1 the target is 60 FPS. .wasn’t GT 60 FPS?. GT5 dips to 52 FPS with a 22% frame rip average, worse when cornering. . when compared with Forza 3 unflinching 60 FPS

Car AI. .GT5 laughable. .Forza3 almost like your online . .way better

Forza3 looks good, very good in fact it only suffers because the colours are bright and vivid, so it really doesn’t look very realistic at all, GT5 tries to be realistic and here it dose a better job than Forza3 but at the expense of performance . . not good enough.

Overall game play. .those who claim to have both games are torn between which is better to play. .GT5 has not set a new higher standard for the genre. It maybe only just pips Forza3 to the post.

Now you guys have been ranting on about how this game will look better play better than any previos racing game. And how it will show without question that the PS3 is the better console because the game will be of such calibre that a 360 could never do it. .

Forza 3 over a year old, 400 cars all drivable from cockpit, all given the same high polly count and internal view. GT5 only 200 fully detailed cars??? Rest from last gen

The difference between in game levels of detail and general gameplay still no clear winner. Many claiming that Forza actually has a higher polly count. GT5 has garish low res shadows or objects with no shadows at all. Many preferring the handling on forza 3

GT5 is far from the flagship game it should have been after 6 years, and if anything it proves that the PS3 is no better than the Xbox for gaming

My guess is that Forza 4 is going to trash GT5

  36. dans303:

    @Cockless

“Look, I’ve just spent the entire morning reading up on GT5. .the game is certainly not all it was cracked up to be.”

This renders all of what you said after meaningless. Play the game before you pass over OTHER people’s judgement. A judgement which btw is based on two days play.

You cannot master a true DRIVING simulator in just two days. Perhaps a RACING simulator (F3) but not something with such depth as GT5.

  37. Godless:

Dan LOL. . LOL. . .LOL

None of what I have said had anything to do with the games long term appeal, I don’t doubt the game in that respect.

These are all issues apparent after a couple of hours maybe even minutes of gaming.

Is the AI shit?. .yes it is. .FAIL
Is the frame rate lower than it should be?. . yes. .it should be 60 FPS. .Its a driving sim, that’s what’s expected .FAIL
Are the graphics poorer than hoped?. .Yes they are, often looking last gen . FAIL
Is the damage modelling shit?. Yes it is. everyone agrees .. FAIL

And while it might drive ok, its far from the ground breaking master piece it probably should be after 6 years of development. This is not the PS3 selling game you guys have been ranting on about, the game that will once and for all place the PS3 out of reach of the Xbox. . .I DON’T THINK SO.

And with everyone making comparisons to Forza 3 and Forza standing up well for a game that’s over a year old??? What will Forza 4 do? . my guess is that it will be a better game than GT5

In a way I’m glad I have read the reviews, because now, I am expecting less from it, and will hopefully be pleasantly surprised. .

  38. Roca.:

and then he says he’s not a 360 fanboy

  39. Godless:

Yeah. I’ll admit that came across Fanboy style..
I guess I’m still annoyed at the general attitude toward the xbox. .
This was an opportunity to bite back in defence of Forza and the xbox, which you guys have been slagging of as last gen etc. etc.

I see both consoles as pretty much even. .xbox is cheap and powerful, PS3 costs more because Sony insisted on the BR player and server type CPU. .Sony had other motives behind these choices. .not for the benefit of gamers.. for a start developers have struggled to get to grips with the CPU and how many games actually need blu ray???

Games wise as I have said before there is very little between the two machines. .and please don’t quote me the usual top 10 PS3 exclusives I know all about them, I have 3 of them, and don’t really care for the others.

As soon as you guys ease up on the PS3 fanboy crap, I’ll do the same.

  40. CaptBirdman:

    @God

    You are a bloody liar.

I don’t know where you get your information from, but GT 5 does not dip lower than 60fps.

My HDTV is an LG 50PS30 (yes I recognised it has PS3 in it’s name :D ), and it will tell you what the current FPS are if you hold down the info button on the remote. For example- when I’m watching Casino Royale on Blu-Ray, it reads “1080/24p” meaning the resolution is 1080p/ at 24 FPS. GT5 reads “1080/60p”. This never changes. Never. For comparison- SSFIV reads “720/30p” and occasionally dips to “720p/29″ or “720p/28″.

Why don’t you go fucking buy the game and stop listening to what other people are say. I hope you do realise there are people just like you that don’t like PS3, and make up shite about it, out of spite. Never take 2nd hand information without a grain of salt, and cease acting like a wanker

  41. CarlB:

“Yamauchi admitted in a recent PSM3 interview that Gran Turismo 5 doesn’t exactly have a silky smooth 60 fps framerate all throughout. Depending on what’s happening on-screen the framerate can still drop.”

  42. The Future of Sega:

LMFAO hahaha Godless is pretending to be an Xbot fanboy! He on Psn guys. And btw I added you. Lol why have you betrayed man? Treachery against the gaming gods will NOT be tolerated!!!!

    My Psn tag: TheFutureofSega

  43. CaptBirdman:

I see I’m going to have to make a video. The game doesn’t do that, lest I haven’t experienced it yet. When/where does this happen?

  44. CarlB:

“If you’re going from a standing start at No.16 and all 15 cars in front of you are kicking up water, there might not be 60fps at that moment,” he added.

  45. Godless:

Sega dude, there’s more than one godless on PSN. .I couldn’t get the godless tag :^(

  46. Godless:

    @Birdbrain

Go read some of the professional technical analysis of the GT5 graphics. .I think you’ll find there a little more in depth than what your TV detects as input :^)

The output on your PS3 is set @ 60Hz or 60FPS, now this will not change regardless of how poor the frame rate in a game gets, if it did the TV would not be able to display an un-synchronised signal.

Remember the Amiga games that used to drop to around 5 to 10 FPS they still had a steady output of 50hz or 50 FPS in the UK anyways. .60Hz in the US

So your TV won’t tell you a thing about the games actual performance, only the output of the console signal.

  47. Godless:

    PS3 help needed
sorry for multiple posts and going of topic but I know you guys will have the answers.

How the hell do I access movies, pictures and music from an external drive on the PS3?

I have been using the PS3 more the last while since I borrowed GT5, now back on uncharted 2 and Motostorm and figured I would try all the other bits and bobs that I gave up on before.
The problem is that I just can seam to get it to do any of the things you guys get it to do?

I’m clearly missing something, but it’s just not intuitive for me. I just can’t seem to get it to browse an external drive for files.

I was even prepared to copy stuff across onto the PS3 drive but couldn’t even get that to work, because for instance with pictures, it only gives me the option to import from a camera, and won’t see the external hard drive.
