The PC is the longest surviving video game platform in existence. With its ever changing requirements and quality of games this is one system that will have its hands in the video game industry for a very long time.
Please keep in mind that the list was made to focus on relevant and more recent titles while still nodding to the classics that molded the industry.
Below is our top 40 PC games of all time.
Top 40 Best PC Games: 1- 10
The Orange Box – contains five of Valve’s masterpieces in one box. This deserves to take the number one spot for housing one of the most prolific franchises around.
BioShock - is the game that took all the platforms by storm in an atmospheric underground adventure
Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn – for Bioware, before Dragon Age there was Baldur’s Gate. The game deserves to be in the history books.
Mass Effect 2 – Bioware’s epic space opera is the pinnacle of the RPG genre with its moral decision system
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – is by far the most popular GTA game ever
Civilization II – the game that really put this addictive strategy game on the map
Fallout 3 – is the game that really pushed action RPGs to the forefront. Bethesda got it into the limelight with Oblivion, but Fallout 3 took the genre home.
Quake – is the game that put competitive online mutiplayer on the map, there is even a conference named after this game
Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle - is considered to be the best adventure game of all time

93% MC and…..nothing? Yet Crysis is there. Crysis fucking sucks. Everyone knows it, and no ones afraid to say it. It blew.
Portal!!!! Why. Didn’t that get covered in the Orange Box?

What about the Xwing franchise…..?
F.E.A.R. should be there.
Everquest should be there. Maybe not Everquest 2.
Quake 2 was better than Quake.
Quake 3 Arena is a heavy hitter.
Counter Strike and CS:Source….should be higher on list.

Some of these games are very old. Aren’t there 40 recent games that are better than Quake? Come on, they were great in their day but times have changed.
If you had to go back to Quake to get 40 top games then the pc gaming must be fading away.

WoW + 2 expansions each get a spot on the list, but Everquest (the first real popular 3d MMO that WoW copied, and FFXI was a clone of) doesn’t even get a mention? All Time? Wing Commander anyone? X-Wing vs Tie Fighter? C&C? MS Flight Simulator?
Crysis was (and still is) pretty, but as a game is quite lame, and to see it pretty still requires expensive hardware.
Its an ambitious task to list the top 40 games for sure, perhaps “since this gen of consoles started” would have been a better scenario to work from.

Two GTA games without as much as a mention of the 2 previous games that started it all.
Even as far as COD’s are concerned I’m sure most PC owners would go with COD/COD 2 before MW2.
