Uncharted 3 gameplay on the Jimmy Fallon Show
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception made a huge splash at the Spike VGAs. The debut trailer didn’t show much gameplay but it did reveal how beautiful the game looks so far. Yesterday the guys at Naughty Dog appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to show off some amazing gameplay.
As reported, Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra came on Jimmy Fallon’s show to present Uncharted 3. What ND showed off was pretty impressive with Drake running through a burning building while fending off bad guys.
The melee combat system looks overhauled and the visuals have bee dramatically improved as well. The quality of the fire burning the building looks extremely impressive.
It appears like a fairly complex level design with a dynamically deforming building that Drake is moving through. The gameplay session was brief but it leaves a lasting impression of the game.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will hit store shelves 11–1–11.

What’s Uncharted?
December 15th, 2010
This game should be epic, can’t wait for this! Anyone notice how they are putting this game out around the same time as Gears of War 3? Maybe Microsoft will try to have Epic push it out a bit early so this does not steal it’s thunder!

An action/adventure game lol
December 15th, 2010
Of course it is an action adventure. If you just want to lump it into a category with no thought as to what it’s primary genre actually is. If not, it’s a shooter with some platforming/puzzle elements. Lol

That video is awesome thanks for posting this. Last UNCHARTED game since is a trilogy. I hope after this master piece with get a prequel.
Getting back to PS3 online in mid January buying a new slim PS3 i know i can just update my firmware but i won’t lol just yet. Lucky me i am working so i can buy every PS3 exclusive in the world.
Also next month I’m getting a full year subscription of PSN+ and Qore.

This is the best 3rd person shooter available this generation… and it looks like the franchise is not going to end at number 3

You could tell that the naughty dog guys were getting annoyed with Jimmy Fallon.
also, It really appeared that despite what he says about playing games he appears all over the place.
R1, R1!!!

I finished playing the first Uncharted the other day.
It was a great game but it had some issues.
The gunplay was lacking in some areas though, like inconsistant damage, and unfortunately I had a trophy glitch that prevented my trophies from unlocking. Appearently the trophy glitch is well known and documented online. Honestly not that surprising since Uncharted was one of the first PS3 games that supported trophies and you had to download an update to be able to activate them.
These are minor issues though, and they did not interfere with my enjoyment of the game. I doubt that I will be playing it again anytime soon though to try and get those trophies.
I was kinda annoyed by those nasty creatures that you fight late in the game. They are like Resident Evil Licker rejects.
I definately plan on getting Uncharted 2
December 15th, 2010
There ain’t no glitch… Uncharted originally didn’t have any trophies..if you started the game before the trophy patch then you will need to delete your saved file and start from the very begining in order to earn trophies.
December 15th, 2010
@Roca
I know about that but it can still get glitched somehow.
The first time I played Uncharted was AFTER that patch was released, the first time I loaded up the game the patch was downloaded, so I should not have had any problems with the trophies.
Yet somehow I didn’t get any trophies at all.
December 15th, 2010
I enjoyed the lil twist at the end of the game.
December 15th, 2010
That’s a weird issue. I’ve only scratched the surface repaying the game for the trophies. I didn’t notice any glitch. It appears that I was earning them. Strange.
Some people had issues with the Supernatural elements of Uncharted and Uncharted 2. I however did not. In that respect they really did remind me of a well done Indiana Jones game.
December 15th, 2010
@Roca
The lil twist was cool. I really enjoyed the last battle. That was one hell of a gunfight. It was intense but a lil frustrating lol. Then I got the timing of his shotgun down and I was good to go.
@phranc
After I beat the game I did a search online and found a few people had the same problem.
The majority of it was that people downloaded the patch AFTER starting the game, or tried continuing a game that started on a different profile.
I did see a few people who were in the same situation as me though, and had started playing AFTER the game was updated.
I didn’t have problems with the supernatural element. Seemed kinda appropriate since just about every legend of treasure has some sort of “curse” involved. I thought that what happens in Uncharted was a pretty good take on it.
Only problem i had with it iis that those things reminded me of Lickers from the RE games lol

@FahKin
so which boat did you like better at the end Sully’s or the giant boat? LOL
December 15th, 2010
@Roca
LMAO
That part was awsome. I think I would take Sully’s boat.
Would anyone take the larger boat? lol
December 15th, 2010
I’m thinking Kev would take the large boat lol
December 15th, 2010
Kev will take the giant boat and would tell Elena to go with Sully LOL
December 15th, 2010
Kev would open up El Dorado lol

“the visuals have bee dramatically improved as well.” seriously? It looked nowhere near as polished as UC2 and the fire effects were no better than anything seen in Farcry 2, Bioshock, alone in the dark or alan wake. ditto applies to “It appears like a fairly complex level design with a dynamically deforming building that Drake is moving through” oooooh, a linear path with lots of QTE; I haven’t seen that since the first fear game or Max Payne on the PC. How incredibly advanced and complex.
There is no doubt that UC3 will look fantastic, but that demo was an aweful lot of ‘Meh’
December 15th, 2010
“oooooh, a linear path with lots of QTE”
Sounds like Resident Evil 4 and 5, and many other action games now

Developer speaks on neogaf:
“direct feed of this sequence should be out by the end of the week if all goes well. then you can dissect it frame by frame and give us our first term report card. :p”
December 15th, 2010
“oooooh, a linear path with lots of QTE”
Nothing wrong with that.
We all know Halo wasn’t linear.
QTE makes it interesting. That is why GOW3 held top spot until yesterday.

David Jaffe revealed somethings I never heard revealed yet about Twisted Metal PS3:
Q:”Will Napalm be back !?
A:JAFFE SAYS: Yes. TMB napalm where you launch the can and drop it on a second press. Not the arc based napalm from TM2. ”
Q: Ricochet bombs? Are they TMB style, or do they knock back vehicles like they used to? I’m happy with either, but I admit that I prefer the latter
A:JAFFE SAYS: “They are little RC cars with TNT strapped to them this time. They are slower than TMB but faster than TM2. They do knock players back far when they hit. You can also charge them up and then remote detonate them. So you can get really close for a sort of impact/upper cut attack (they don’t home so you need to get close or lucky) OR you send one down a ramp, into a building, etc. and then detonate it. Detonation does about 40% less damage than direct hit but it has bigger range so it can hit multiple enemies at the same time.”
December 15th, 2010
““oooooh, a linear path with lots of QTE””
There wasn’t any QTE’s shown! At all! What are you talking about Rimmer?
December 15th, 2010
he probably played the video in QT.
December 15th, 2010
Rimmer – “It looked nowhere near as polished as UC2 and the fire effects were no better than anything seen in Farcry 2, Bioshock, alone in the dark or alan wake”
Alan Wake’s pixalated graphics LMAO??
You know that what you saw about U3 was not a direct feed from the game running on a PS3 right?
Either way it looks amazing, better than Uncharted 2, better than all 360 games and all the games you mentioned.
poor fanboy
Rimmer – “ditto applies to “It appears like a fairly complex level design with a dynamically deforming building that Drake is moving through”
like you will know anything, did you play the train part in U2, or the collapsing building scene? You definitely don’t know what you’re talking about.
December 15th, 2010
I liked the light bloom effect (if that’s what it’s called) when the door got kicked it. Subtle, not expected, but welcome addition.
December 15th, 2010
Rimmer has a PS3?
PSN ID rimmer?
December 15th, 2010
I look forward to see how they plan on topping the train and the collapsing building.
December 15th, 2010
@phranc
What about the plane in the trailer?
December 15th, 2010
That’s it
December 15th, 2010
“I look forward to see how they plan on topping the train and the collapsing building.”
“What about the plane in the trailer?”
*topped*
December 15th, 2010
“There wasn’t any QTE’s shown! At all! What are you talking about Rimmer?” try the point where his foot gets trapped for example. I did like how they utilized it to keep you stationary and have to take out enemies without being able to take cover.
I don’t have a PS3, but my flatmate has, sitting on the other side of the TV to the 360 so i have seen Uncharted 2 in action and played a little myself. I just don’t get along with the shape of the PS3 controller. it just feels too small so I don’t use the PS3 much.
I don’t think the graphics are as fantastic as some try to make it out to be, not any better than a lot of other games on the market, but i think the scripting is some of the best in the industry. Episodes such as the train crash are brilliantly executed. The character animation is great too.
December 15th, 2010
“I don’t think the graphics are as fantastic as some try to make it out to be, not any better than a lot of other games on the market”
credibility just hit the floor…
December 15th, 2010
rimmer your such a fanboy…lmao
December 16th, 2010
”I don’t think the graphics are as fantastic as some try to make it out to be, not any better than a lot of other games on the market’
‘credibility just hit the floor…’
I second that lol
December 16th, 2010
What I liked in the new game play was the lock on jumping attack a very good staple of platforming just like in Sonic games.
The hand to hand combat was more spiced up with more actions and camera movements
which is a joy to behold just like in a dedicated fighting game.
Also the dynamic lighting & shadow is more softer on top of the detailed textures which seemed doubled in quality.
oh and don’t forget “The Greatest Gaming Franchise of All Time” quote by Fallon : )
December 16th, 2010
“try the point where his foot gets trapped for example. I did like how they utilized it to keep you stationary and have to take out enemies without being able to take cover.”
That’s what you consider LOTS of QTE’s? My idea of a QTE isn’t that at all. If he had to hit X,O,Right Right, which gets him past that part like, Dragons’s Lair, GOW games, RE4/5, Bayonetta, or countless other games QTE’s, I’d agree. The fact that you still have a decent amount of control over your character makes me believe that wouldn’t be considered a QTE.

Rimmer – “seriously? It looked nowhere near as polished as UC2″

December 16th, 2010
Good news for you PS3 guys – Masseffect 2 will use the ME3 engine so should look a whole load better than the 360 version. Together with the included expansion packs this looks like a killer game to get in Jan.
Roca those comparison shots are meaningless as they are from the trailer. That is like comparing the visuals from the Gears of War “mad world” advert to real gameplay. One has been optimized and prerendered, the other runs in realtime. The shot that shows an actual ingame graphic comparison (shot 4) I think looks better in UC2 than 3.
December 16th, 2010
If you had spent any time with the Uncharted games you will know the game’s cutscene uses realtime in-game graphics (same as MGS4 and GoW3).
This happaned in 2008 as well, when U2 was revealed at the VGA 2008 show with a similar trailer as U3 – the trailer they showed at the event for U2 was the very beginning of Uncharted 2.
Shot 4 is a concept art and it is neither a realtime gameplay screeshot or a cutscene using realtime graphics. All other shots are pretty much cutscenes.
You’re fanboysm is starting to show…badly
December 16th, 2010
‘The shot that shows an actual ingame graphic comparison (shot 4) I think looks better in UC2 than’
Is it not insanely obviously that the U2 shot you’re on about is a picture where there is a hell of a lot more going on? Of course it’s going to look better! They should have compared that picture to a shot of UC3 with the same amount of on-screen action.
Seriously, some fanboys will just skip over the obvious.

I just need Naughty Dog to make a true blue Indiana Jones game.
*Bumm ba bum bummmm, bah ba bummmm*
