250 GB Xbox 360 Hard Drive $50 on woot #1
——————————————————————————–
http://www.woot.com/
It’s the “old” style one for an old 360, not the slim.
$5 shipping, and the site says “In time for xmas”.
Can’t believe I spent as much as I did for the 120 way back when.
Edit: Worth noting today only.
December 22nd, 2010
copied from neogaf, if anyone wanna upgrade their old xbox harddrive..
December 22nd, 2010
Anyone else thought the Mass Effect demo looked ridiculously shitty???
Ingame was OK, but the cutscenes… holy hell
I hope that was Alpha code
December 22nd, 2010
LoL
I get my list deleted and now this lol. Go on mikey completely ignore that 360 has been consistently cranking out deals all year long and not cramming everything into one month. Why nothing similar for the 360? Don’t worry you don’t need to answer we all know your a PS3 Fanboy. Anyways I don’t need you to help me point out what’s going on over on the 360 as it’s well advertised within the console. Just downloaded All the discounted car packs for Forza 3 and bought more songs for dance Central and took the daily deals going on everyday for the rest of the month which was the complete RDR collection for 1200 points yesterday.

Captain, the FMV cut scenes in ME2 demo obviously were not 780p but the textures on the in-game engine are very detailed skin pores and all are fantastic.
December 22nd, 2010
Yeah, I said the ingame was OK, but the cutscenes looked botched… if the finished version looks better, this game will be beautiful.
December 22nd, 2010
I will be slightly annoyed if the PS3 version has higher res textures. The PC version had crappy ported ones from the 360, it was quite sad really, the game can look very pretty at times, as long as you don’t get to close (like in the cutscenes).
December 22nd, 2010
wahhhhh wahhhhhh. The PS3 is better. Wahhhhhhh.
/being CAD
December 22nd, 2010
I will definately DL the ME2 demo, just to check it out.
As for the deals the only thing I am really interested in is the PS1 Classic Front Mission 3. I will definately but that
December 22nd, 2010
The ME2 demo is big. I’m DLing it now, but its gonna take awhile. 2.4GBs is a lot of space. Est. 35 mins
December 22nd, 2010
@Birdman
Demos are usually compressed. Bioshock 1 Demo looked shitty and 2K Boston confirmed that the demo was compressed to keep the file at a reasonable size.
GT5 Time Trial demo (released late last year) looked shitty too, worse than GT5p (but better than Forza 3)because it was a 250MB demo.
December 22nd, 2010
There are some things I dont like about the ME2 PS3 demo.
Some colors/textures look washed out or too bright and they dont look as good as they 360 version. And some areas are just too dark or black and don’t look right.
There is something else, but its more of a minor annoyance. They changed the Shield Color from Blue to Purple. For some reason that just doesn’t feel right to me lol.
December 22nd, 2010
@Fahkin.
Could be individual setting in your PS3. The comparison video showed the PS3 with darker blacks and crisper textures while the 360 version looked washed out.
December 22nd, 2010
@phranc
Nah the 360 version had looked fine. Its the PS3 version itself.
There are some differences. Some textures are noticably better on the PS3, most notable is the armor. Also some of the textures in the “operating” scene in the beginning were alot sharper, mostly the metal pieces implanted in Sheperd. They had a more metallic look to them than the 360 version.
However the faces on the PS3 version seem a little off, as do some colors/textures as I mentioned earlier. The face thing was more noticable with Sheperds face.
Also I noticed Joker’s teeth looked kinda funny on the PS3 demo.
December 22nd, 2010
like i said. Maybe it’s some settings in your ps3 itself.
We’ve seen plenty of videos of people refining the settings in the PS3 video settings to give the image the less washed out look.
I believe it’s the RGB limited setting. There’s a few others. I haven’t touched then in a while so I ‘d refer to AVS or some other website.
December 22nd, 2010
“Nah the 360 version had looked fine. Its the PS3 version itself”
It could be the PS3 demo.. We all know ME2 on PS3 is using ME3 game engine. IGN spend some time with the actual game and they confirmed that ME2 on PS3 was graphically better.
December 22nd, 2010
“We all know ME2 on PS3 is using ME3 game engine.”
Thats the other thing that gets me… I wouldnt call it the ME3 engine. It’s more like ME2.5
Of course this isn’t a PS3 thing, but just something I am concerned about with ME3 when it is released.
ME and ME2 had several years between them, but ME3 is being released in 11 isn’t it? So basically 1 year in Dev time.
It kinda bothers me a lil bit that ME3 is pretty much built on an upgraded ME2 engine but they are calling it the ME3 engine. 1 year is certainly not enough time to build that engine from scratch, but it is more than enough time to modify the existing ME2 engine. Basically what I am saying is that ME3 is going to play EXACTLY like ME2 (albeit slightly upgraded), if the demo is any indication.
While that is definately not a bad thing, it leads me to wonder as to what other ME2 assets are going to be reused.
Now I have alot of faith in Bioware and they have not let me down before, but I am REALLY wondering about exactly how ME3 is going to turn out in such a short Dev cycle.
December 22nd, 2010
“Anyways I don’t need you to help me point out what’s going on over on the 360 as it’s well advertised within the console.”
Lmao but the 360 doesn’t have ads in the dashboard cad!
Lol what a jackass.
December 22nd, 2010
@Fahkin.
The dev cycle is still 2 years. ME2 released last year.
December 22nd, 2010
ME2 was released this year phranc
Jan 26, 2010
December 22nd, 2010
Almost 2 year between ME2 and ME3 (about 18 months or so)
December 22nd, 2010
But yet the ME3 engine is up and running within a year, and is ready to be used in the ME2 demo? C’mon, Its obviously just an updated ME2 engine. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I think i would like to see more with ME3
December 22nd, 2010
Well better than what the COD players get – 3/4 years using the same engine lol
December 22nd, 2010
lol so true. I saw a commercial the other day that showed some gameplay from Black Ops and it looked crappy lol.
Mind you i haven’t actually seen Black Ops yet myself
December 22nd, 2010
“I saw a commercial the other day that showed some gameplay from Black Ops and it looked crappy lol”
told you
December 22nd, 2010
At least Modern Warfare 2 looked better than what I saw in that commercial lmao
December 22nd, 2010
Ok so 22 months not 24 months. Close enough to call it two years.
December 22nd, 2010
Eurogamer already scrutinized it.
I can’t read this at work. Anyone want to paraphrase or post some of it here?
http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/masseffect2-360-vs-ps3-faceoff?size=hd
December 22nd, 2010
Phranc
they show that its very identical with some slight changes, like armor designs.
Graphically they are so similar, with little differences.
You can actually very clearly see in the comparison vids that the PS3 version is much darker, so its not just me it really is the case.
December 22nd, 2010
There isn’t really anything posted about it, its pretty much just a video there, at least that I can see.
The PS3 version has more noticable shadows but I think it gets in the way alot of times. It just hides too much of the finer details at times
December 22nd, 2010
damn..it’s just a video. Oh well. I’m sure by the time it comes out we’ll have the pixel counters at Eurogamers Digital Foundry all over it.
December 22nd, 2010
Its a good comparison video though. Both versions have their own strengths, and you can see where one version looks better than the other. Aside from these minor differences the game looks nearly identical.
I like the way some of the armor designs changed for the PS3 version. But I HATE how they changed the shield color from Blue to Purple.
December 22nd, 2010
“Aside from these minor differences the game looks nearly identical”
Given the PS3′s issues with the Unreal Engine, I can honestly say I’m surprised.
December 22nd, 2010
@phranc
I think that setting these graphical differences aside, ME2 is a great game and definately makes a great addition to the PS3 library.
I know that there are alot of people who own a PS3 but not a 360, and this will give them the perfect opportunity to play this incredible game.
December 22nd, 2010
I look forward to the demo. I didn’t get a chance to DL that and Dead Space 2 yesterday.
December 22nd, 2010
I downloaded LBP 2 and ME2 last night. I’m about to play those now, and download Dead Space and DC Online.
btw, since FallOut New Vegas received a huge patch, and was only $39, I decided to take the plunge. It should be delivered tomorrow. If I’m lucky, I’ll have a few hours to play it before I leave for the holiday. Wish me luck…
December 22nd, 2010
Well… *pre-orders Mass Effect 2*… that was pretty damn good.
December 23rd, 2010
@BJ
I just finished up the DLCs for Fallout 3 recently and playing through that made me really think about getting New Vegas lol.
December 23rd, 2010
I didn’t play the second part of the ME2 demo because it warned of potential spoilers.
Has anyone tried that and can guarantee it won’t screw up the game?
That was probably two of the better demo’s I’ve played (Dead Space 2 being other). Both explained the previous events and were presented in a way that makes me want to preorder both. Well done Visceral and Bioware.
December 23rd, 2010
FahKinSuPah,
the latest patched addressed pretty much every quest in the game. There’s a huge list of stuff the patch supposedly fixed. I read through the forums and it looks like freezing is still a big issue, but I’m not sure if people are still having problems because they’re playing with older save files… at $39, I figured I’d try it out to see.
It sounds like the problems start becoming a huge issue later in the game once your save file reaches a certain size.
phranctoast,
I can’t say for sure… but it seemed just like a side quest. You play through the entire event. I’m not sure how important that event was to the overall story, but I don’t think it ruined anything.
Anyone whose played the game,
The quest involved the plague?
December 23rd, 2010
New Vegas came and is installing as I type… it came with the pre-order bonus DLC which was a nice surprise. The Tribal Pack doesn’t seem all that amazing, but still.
December 23rd, 2010
Two questions.
1. Is ME2 realy the best looking game on the 360?
2. The ps3 version looks better?
LMAO. It plays great but needs a shut load of work. It is like watching a Bruce lee movie. You can realy tell the game was not made for the ps3. Reminds me of RDR. Except in rdr the mouths moved with the dialog.
December 23rd, 2010
@ncaisse
according to Digital Foundry they look different.
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/12/23/digital-foundry-puts-mass-effect-2-on-ps3-under-its-microscope/
For best results read from DF and not from joystiq.
December 23rd, 2010
Well it was a massive demo, I’m sure they had to compress a bit. I’d wait for the disc release for the final verdict.
The facial models in the cut scenes were good – not the greatest I’ve scene – but still, pretty good. The in game graphics on par with the better looking games this gen.
December 23rd, 2010
BJ and Phranc
the demo really doesnt give much of anything away with the actual story. Its actually a small portion of gameplay during one of the missions to recruit one of the party members.
As for the compression, i think the majority of the demo was uncompressed except for the opening scene “Previously on Mass Effect” You can see the compression in several spots there
December 23rd, 2010
“I like the way some of the armor designs changed for the PS3 version. But I HATE how they changed the shield color from Blue to Purple.”
@FKSP
I think that happens on 360 too, if you play other classess like engineer etc, your shield colour changes to purple..
Are you sure, you were playing with soldier as usual
@ncaisse
1. Nope the best looking game on 360 is metro 2033
2. Its subjective
December 23rd, 2010
@Toshi
Ok i see what you mean. When I first played ME2 on 360 I was a Soldier class and my second play through was something like Infiltrator or something like that. So it was blue both times.
When I s tarted up the PS3 demo I chose the pure biotic and it was purple.
Easy mistake to make.
I see now that the reason it was purple was probably cause the biotic class does not have shields, but rather has a barrier instead. Make sense now.
I realized this cause I am checking out the PS3 demo again but as Soldier this time.
Something is still off with it though. The color of the shields and health on the PS3 version are not as vivid as the 360 version. They just dont stand out as much.
December 24th, 2010
Anyone else scared shitless by Dead Space 2 demo?
December 25th, 2010
I liked it, just wish it were longer… I didn’t really fancy the 1st, but this looks better. And those litte grey fuckers are pretty terrifying
December 25th, 2010
“Something is still off with it though. The color of the shields and health on the PS3 version are not as vivid as the 360 version. They just dont stand out as much”
@FKSP
Yaa i heard the ps3 version is a bit washed out, hopefully its only the demo version..
