CoD: Black Ops notches $1 billion sales
Call of Duty: Black Ops has racked up $1 billion in sales since it was released on Nov. 9. No wonder Activision brings out a new CoD every year.
CoD: Black Ops quite literally flew off store shelves as soon as it was released. Within 24 hours of its release last month, the game had brought in an incredible $360 million. After five days this had risen to $650 million. Sales then slowed down, naturally, but six weeks later the games has smashed through the $1 billion milestone.
As noted with a heavy amount of smugness by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, this is on a par with Avatar, James Cameron’s 3D spectacular, which is the only other piece of entertainment content to have made $1 billion in such a short space of time.
While the campaign mode is popular, it’s the online multiplayer which, as always with the CoD games, is proving to be the biggest draw. To date 600 million hours of playing time have been racked up by its legion of fans. Same time next year, everyone?
