Action taken over Black Ops bugs, Pachter calls Gamers Voice a “cry baby”
Michael Pachter Gets It Wrong Again, Episode 2,959.
An organization called Gamers Voice is to make an official complaint regarding the buggy nature of Call of Duty: Black Ops on the PC and PS3. Gamers Voice, which was founded in 2009 by Tom Watson, MP, maintains that games should not be released unfinished or in such a buggy state that they are nigh unplayable.
IncGamers asked Michael Pachter what he thought of this news, and his frankly astonishing response was:
They sound like a crybaby to me. All games are buggy, some more so than others. Have you tried Fallout: New Vegas? Buggiest game ever. If people don’t like it, they can take it back to retail for a refund. Most bugs are patched within a reasonable time, and any serious gamer expects bugs.
I don’t think I could disagree with Michael Pachter any more than I do right now. I hate the way games are released with bugs, sometimes severe bugs, with the publisher knowing they’ll just fix them (maybe, if enough people complain) in the months after launch. Just because games can be patched doesn’t mean every single one should need to be.

New Vegas ran well for me. But admittedly, that was after the 5,000 fixes covered in the patches.
I have no idea if some people just over react, or if it was actualy that bad.
If it was THAT bad, then I think they have every right to sue.
January 24th, 2011
“If people don’t like it, they can take it back to retail for a refund”
no you can’t..idiot.
January 24th, 2011
I want a full refund.
just as soon as I finish SP mode. LOL
January 24th, 2011
you have 15 days if unopened.
January 24th, 2011
BTW Dave, Where did you get that pic of CAD?
January 24th, 2011
unopened you get 30 days here… but you won’t know if the game is glitchy or if you ‘like it’ until you open it and play it.
January 24th, 2011
Ncaisse yes that’s how I felt yesterday after using the PS3. I had a cry for you PS3 Fanboys because I felt so sorry for you losers. I guess I understand the need to make yourselves feel happy about such a crappy console. It’s OK guys I feel for you.
January 24th, 2011
He is just supporting companies like Activision and Bethestha to released glitchy and unfinished games.
January 24th, 2011
“I had a cry for you PS3 Fanboys because I felt so sorry for you losers”
what have you been playing on 360 lately that PS3 users can’t play?
January 24th, 2011
Answer: Kinect
January 24th, 2011
Thats exactly why I didn’t get New Vegas yet, because I knew it would end up very buggy just like Fallout 3 was when it first released.
Sometimes I wonder about the state of video games now if companies release games in a shitty state and just patch it whenever they feel like it.
January 24th, 2011
I’m sure there are things like budgets and deadlines that need to be met. But frankly releasing a game that is buggy is unacceptable.
IMO the biggest problem is lazy programing and the internet.
It appears that developers/publishers feel it is acceptable to release buggy games because they can release a patch over the internet fixing these things.
Long gone are the days of Doom etc when after you installed the game from the final disk it worked flawlessly.
The internet was is its infancy then, and speeds of 64kb/sec were living in the fast lane, so releasing a patch to fix a bug was not feasable.
Developers need to stop being so fucking lazy.
As for Pachter, he’s just proven what a fucking wanker he is.
January 24th, 2011
I couldn’t agree more with you Rhino.
But ultimately WE (users) are the suckers… After all, WE bought that crappy, piece of COD BUG Ops.
WE gave Activision our money and WE made COD Bug Ops a ‘Best Seller’ title…
PS: I haven’t bought COD BO and have no plans to… Just used a friend’s copy (buggy as hell!).
January 24th, 2011
how does this guy work for such a huge investment house and be so monumentally stupid?
customer: game was buggy.
retailer: and?
customer: i want a refund.
retailer: we can give you store credit.
customer: nothing else I want.
retailer: sucks to be you.
typically is how I’ve seen it happen. Pachter is a douche…
January 24th, 2011
It’s the one bad thing about persistent storage on consoles.
Good old PC Dev mentality. Throw it out there, patch it later.
I like to think of it as the last dying kick in your console arseholes courtesy of the PC.

What ever happened to ‘The customer is always right’?

Right on Rhino!!! Hey guys I just got done playing Kung Fu Live. That game was fuuuuuuuuun!!!! I’m tired as hell right now but I’ll play it again tonight. Hey Roca & Barnabee are you guys still on for tonight’s match of Uncharted 2?
Everyone else is welcome to join us. We’ll probably start around 9:30pm eastern time.
January 24th, 2011
Speaking of Uncharted 2, I just completed it today. Man that game is all kinds of awesome! U3 is now THE most anticipated game of this year.
January 24th, 2011
So why isn’t the 360 version buggy?
January 24th, 2011
Actually the 360 version of New Vegas was the buggier of the two.
January 24th, 2011
Barn – they’ve fixed Vegas on the 360 with patches. Sucks for those not connected tho. I hate this idea of shipping crap to patch later…
January 24th, 2011
I agree with you there.
January 24th, 2011
Sega, Sorry I missed you. IDK when I’ll be on again. I have a few long days ahead of me.
I haven’t checked out those links yet, but I will.
January 25th, 2011
Ok. Thursday I start my new job so I’ll probably be back on around Feb. 8th. I appreciate it!
January 25th, 2011
it should be against the law to release faulty products with a load bugs i.e the 360 back in 2005.
January 25th, 2011
Pachter is a dick, almost every word out of this tossers mouth is bullshit
In the UK you can take a game back if it fails to work as it should.
Lots did this with Wolfenstein which used to crash the xbox and was even linked to bringing about xbox death by RROD
fable 3 which is buggy out of the box can also be returned.
If you’re the first poor sucker to take a game back saying its too buggy to play you might get some resistance but after 3 or 4 people do the same the shop will be aware there is a problem, if you tell them your not online to get a patch, they will give you a refund with no problems, they just return the games to suppliers as faulty.
Consumer rights are there, people just need to be firm about it.
January 25th, 2011
I agree with Patcther that there will be price cuts this year. That’s about it though.
January 25th, 2011
At least Microsoft has finally fixed the rrod problem. It only took them several years to do it though. I downloaded Bulletstorm off Xbox live this morning. It was not up on Psn yet. Hopefully, it will be on Psn when I get off work later today. I can not wait to check the demo out.
January 25th, 2011
“Everyone else is welcome to join us. We’ll probably start around 9:30pm eastern time.”
I will try. Just got my copy back.
January 25th, 2011
“So why isn’t the 360 version buggy?”
I have played most of the SP and have not seen one bug. I thing people are just whining about people using bugs in MP to cheat. We all know the 360 users are a bunch of low life cheaters anyway and probably like it.
January 25th, 2011
“At least Microsoft has finally fixed the rrod problem”
IDK about that. My girlfriend bought an elite last winter, and less than a year later it RRODd.
Supposedly that model had the Valhalla (or something) chip. Give the slims a year, reports will start coming in.
January 25th, 2011
“So why isn’t the 360 version buggy?”
I can tell you don’t even have the game. The 360 is buggy as well but I guess you XBL users are use to that.
ODST still isn’t playable with a HDD..lol
January 25th, 2011
“I haven’t checked out those links yet, but I will.”
what links?
January 25th, 2011
now add the fact that the ps3 has been hacked people will soon complain about people cheating on the PSN (shame and I was looking forward to getting my PS3 online as well).
January 25th, 2011
Future of Sega why don’t tell us (without spoilers) what Shenmue 1&2 were like?
January 25th, 2011
“now add the fact that the ps3 has been hacked people will soon complain about people cheating on the PSN (shame and I was looking forward to getting my PS3 online as well).”
Well, by Happyhockum logic you should just play with your friends and stay away from public servers. lol
January 25th, 2011
@ Roca “ODST still isn’t playable with a HDD..lol??”
What???
I have ODST and i installs and plays fine
Not that I like the game, but it works fine.
and it’s well known the Black ops on the xbox, is the best version of the game, I’ve no idea why that would be, but it is a fact. PS3 doesn’t even have the split screen multiplayer option,
And what’s the crack with XBL being buggy. .Like I’ve said before, I have never ever had any problems with it. Maybe you have a different meaning for the word. what does XBL do that’s buggy. I would say it was very stable, and I wish I could say the same for PSN, which was getting better till last week then it’s tured to rat shit all last week. trying to download demos and I finaly have them after getting kick out PSN christ knows how many times
January 25th, 2011
Try either gears games online. They’ve been known for their poor performance for a while now.
At at least appears that epic will use dedicated servers with gear 3.
January 25th, 2011
phranc – actually Cliffy B stated 2 users have been using dedicated servers for a while now. They rolled them out in prep for Gears 3.
This was stated on Xplay. The only “poor performance” of gears 2 was early on. Problems corrected.
Besides as PSN user, you have no room to whine about xobx live with the huge amounts of issues affecting ps3 online. Dropped games, disconnections, can’t connect, lack of voicecom, etc….etc
The reality is; you and Roca just proved you both know nothing of the 360…again
January 25th, 2011
@Godless
I meant to say : “Halo Reach” isn’t playable “without’ a HDD for online coop.
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/12/halo-reach-co-op-hard-drive-requirement-unresolved-no-eta-on-f/
January 25th, 2011
Godless – relax. If you notice the ONLY ones blasting xbox live are the ps3 fanboys who don’t have it. Jealousy i’m thinking….
January 25th, 2011
If you notice the ONLY ones blasting PSN are the 360 fanboys who don’t have it. Jealousy i’m thinking….
Corrected for accuracy.
January 25th, 2011
Does Patcher has a manager of sorts or he gets all that media attention only by himself? He has marketing talent…
January 25th, 2011
Fact is. You pay and 1st party doesn’t support dedicated servers. That blows and you can’t argue it doesn’t. There is no reason for MS to not support dedicated servers.
Valve, EA, and now Epic have.. Why not the company that’s taking your money?
You talk about server stability while not owning or having a PS3.
January 25th, 2011
@Kev
L4D2 was hacked, ppl were able to do 16-player co-op
http://www.destructoid.com/16-player-co-op-left-4-dead-2-looks-like-a-bad-dream-155878.phtml
Gears 2 was a disaster …nuff said
MW2…alsmost unplayable on XBL due to all the hackers and glitchers.
XBL cost $50 but does not support the use of dedicated servers (or user-created content) and has a size limit for downloadble content. besides that the patches are always late on XBL (even after being available on PSN for weeks)..that’s why Valve stated “”XBL patching is a train wreck”
PSN/Steam connectivity the future. It will offer cloud-based save system PC/PS3 cross platform play and more. All for free.
January 25th, 2011
For every issue you can find about PSN, one exists about XBL. step down off the high horse. You’re getting stupid from the thin air.
January 25th, 2011
phranc – there’s one little thing that EA stated long ago that you ps3 clowns are forgetting. Dedicated servers are limited life. This means they will only be active for a while. 1, 2, maybe 5 years…then you have to worry about being able to play it. It costs to keep servers running. With no subscription fees, and low software sales, it can’t last forever.
EA stated long ago they can’t keep dedicated servers for every one of their game perpetually. They will have to be moved on eventually.
with xbox live, if you have another gamer with the game besides you, you can find a game online.
Roca – you obviously have never played xbox live, so keep your silliness to yourself. If you’ve played the xbox games you claimed, send us your Gamertag. Want to check your stats.
since you like quoting Valve, here’s a few choice words about how much they hate the ps3…
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/11/valves-gabe-newell-says-ps3-a-waste-of-time/
ouch…lmao…
bet you wish you didn’t quote Valve now… lmao…
January 25th, 2011
I’m well aware of that kev. Why MS doesn’t support dedicated servers with a constant stream of revenue is not answered in any of that.
Dedicated servers are better period. nuff said.
January 25th, 2011
Bj,
All old Xbox360 systems perform terribly. I only give credit to the new Xbox360 slim only. It is the system that Microsoft should have released years ago. If anyone has the old model Xbox360, then they should definetely get the new Xbox360 system. It is just a matter of time before the previous model fails.
January 25th, 2011
I guess times have changed. Now Valve likes the PS3 better.. LMAO
January 25th, 2011
Kev’s quote from Valve was from 2007 lmao.
That’s pretty low…even for you Kev.
Dedicated Servers > P2P servers.
What happen to Halo 2′s online mode. it got shut down while All 3 Socom games, which have used dedicated servers since day 1, are all up and running.
January 25th, 2011
phrane – please post a quote in which Valve ever stated they like the ps3, much less BETTER than the 360.
the constants stream of revenue you’re talking about goes to pay for the infrastructure. Contrary to what you ps3 fanboys think, maintaining on online business model isn’t free.
there are games with dedicated servers on xbox live, btw. please learn first, post second.
January 25th, 2011
phranc – so far the ps3 and PSN has shown no benefit from using dedicated servers.
they have the most complaints of dropped games, connection problems, lock ups, patches, etc, of all the online gaming services.
dedicated servers are great bragging rightts, but if you notice the only ones bragging are the ps3 players. So far the millions of more gamers using xbox live over psn don’t seem to have a problem with it.

roca – it’s funny they only came out and made those claims AFTER Gabe caught hell for his comments blasting the ps3.
damage control, genius….. if he really felt this way about the ps3 he would’ve praised it first…but he didn’t…ouch…
January 25th, 2011
Dismissing Valve’s statement again Kev?
The fact is that Valve is now supporting PS3 more than 360.
I guess they realized PSN was better than XBLag.
Wonder why many devs who previously supported the 360 are jumping ship to PS3 lately.. Bioware, 2K, EA, Valve, Epic, Rockstar and others..
You don’t that happening the other way around.
January 25th, 2011
It is because of money. More people now have Ps3 systems and developers want a piece of the Ps3 pie.
January 25th, 2011
“phranc – so far the ps3 and PSN has shown no benefit from using dedicated servers.”
lol. Games that support more than 16 players say hi.
January 25th, 2011
Hey Kev & CAD, how many games on the 360 allow up to 256 players in a single game?
MAG on the PS3 has that and they use dedicated servers for that, so come on you fucking genius, how many on your precious system?
And because I know how both of you like to demand (but never respond to link provided) http://ps3.mmgn.com/News/Dedicated-Australian-Servers-f
January 26th, 2011
Rhino cod 3 could allow up to 32 players max on the 360. does that answer your question?
January 26th, 2011
COD topped out at 24 players. 24 is a high amount for P2P.
January 26th, 2011
*COD3*
January 26th, 2011
Rhino – what’s the point? and how many MAG games on PS3 online have actually been seen with 256 players? hint; NONE.
you’re also ignore the fact the publisher will not pay for the servers forever. Enjoy it while you can b/c there will come a day when you will no longer be able to play it online with the PS3 as the dedicated server will have to move on.
ROCA – “The fact is that Valve is now supporting PS3 more than 360.”
more games? I’d love to see how many they’re coming out with for both. Then you can claim they’re supporting the ps3 MORE than the 360. Until then, you continue to be the resident liar.
“I guess they realized PSN was better than XBLag.”
not according to the data. Xbox live is used waaaaaay more than PSN is. The gamers already realize Xbox live is better than PSN. I’ve seen no comments from Valve stating PSN is better tho. again, you lied….
“Wonder why many devs who previously supported the 360 are jumping ship to PS3 lately.. Bioware, 2K, EA, Valve, Epic, Rockstar and others..”
it’s funny you included Rockstar that sony bragged would remain exclusive to sony last gen, thusly crushing any hope for the xbox and MS. Yet they jumped ship….the largest and most succesful frandchise at the time….lmao… but i’m sure you just *forgot* that part.
I don’t care of the developers the xbox brought to the console industry also makes games for the ps3. unlike ps3 fanboys, i realize that exclusives are not what sustain the industry or careers it supports. exclusives are good for bragging right, with supporting reviews and sales, but simply bragging BECAUSE it’s exclusive is useless.
the 360 has less “exclusives” than the ps3 (utter bullshit when you consider xbox live arcade game), but is used waaaaaay more hours per week by gamers than the ps3. exclusives are important when they’re fun like Halo, Gears of War and Forza, because the gamers keep coming back for more gameplay. Not so much of Sony’s exclusives….
“You don’t that happening the other way around”
um…repeat: Rockstar….you just owned yourself with your own ignorance. LMAO….
January 26th, 2011
Rockstar wasn’t even exclusive last gen. GTA3,Vice City, and SA was on the Xbox….
January 26th, 2011
As for Valve. Gabe Newell apparently had diarrhea of the mouth..
He made mention of the PS3 and the “they should start from scratch” comment due to the PS3′s architecture being so different than a PC, in which he’s used to.
He’s also appears to want the open feel of the PC on a console and the PS3 appears to offer that to him while the 360 is more restrictive and therefore doesn’t offer that to him.
The way it’s looking to me though is the next L4D will not be exclusive. The 360 also appears to be getting the inferior version of Portal 2.
January 26th, 2011
Kev – “Rockstar….you just owned yourself with your own ignorance. LMAO…”
Rockstar huh?
-GTA4 DLC on PS3
-RDR exclusive area only on PS3
-Agent – PS3 exclusive.
Kev – “more games?”
Yes, buying Portal 2 on PS3 gets you also Portal 2 for PC (through Steam) for free. Save files are linked PS3/PC so you can play the game where you left off on any gaming console.
January 26th, 2011
The only reason vaule are supporting the PS3 more is because SONY let them incorparate Streamworks into the PSN effectively letting Vaule use their own servers wheres M$ said they have to xbox live and play ball by M$ rules (i.e NO FREE CONTENT ON XBOXLIVE KEV) and SONY made them a deal they can’t refuse. that and the possible fact that SONY sent top PS3 devs over to Vaule so could get plenty of help when developing for the PS3.
So there your answer kev read and weep at M$ balls things up with Vaule and if you need more proof go on youtube and look up E3 2010 Sony pressconfernce and Uncharted 2 credits (look at the end) and I’v got to go see ya.
January 26th, 2011
ps3 rules. – there is a lot of free content on xbox live. I just find it hilarious that when Valve slammed the ps3, all you fanboys said “valve sucks”, “we don’t need valve”…now? you’re all humping their legs for no reason whatsoever..lmao..
Roca – rockstar was exclusive to sony until the xbox launched. ouch…
exclusive d/l content is not the same as an “exclusive game”, sport…
lmao… your attempt to detract from this fact is hilarious….
i fail to see how a free pc game for a console gamer is a bragging point, but congrats, I guess. I don’t miss it to be honest….
January 26th, 2011
Not buying any game from B. Kotick, ever – Killzone 3 here we come!
January 27th, 2011
Roca – rockstar was exclusive to sony until the xbox launched. ouch…”
rockstar is a piss poor example of Sony losing developers. The GTA series itself originated on the PC.
Sony had a timed deal with Rockstar. That’s it. Just like MS having a timed deal with the DLC.
If you want to talk about loss of exclusive developers, why not look at Bungie. MS could not have lost a bigger name
than that. Ouch. Lmao
January 27th, 2011
“you’re all humping their legs for no reason whatsoever..lmao..”
I’m humping Valves leg?
I’m pretty sure my last posts was a straight honest and undebatable, and was far from “humping valves leg”
If you’re going to lie about something you should maybe wait a while instead of two posts following mine.
January 27th, 2011
Rockstar was never Exclusive to Sony.

Bad news…I turned the job down. It just wasn’t the right fit for me.
PS3Rulez,
Lol I never got into Shenmue. I thought both games were shitty. I like action, racing, and role play games like Zelda, Mortal Kombat, Rush 2049, etc.
