Killzone 3 tournament at Walmart during midnight launch – Feb. 21
Sony is looking to launch Killzone 3 in a big way across Walmart stores in the U.S. Apparently the midnight launch will double as a Killzone 3 tournament event where you can win prizes.
I can’t say I’ve seen this type of marketing strategy from Sony before. As reported, the company seems to be dead set on improving its marketing for first-party titles.

According to the PlayStation blog, 24-hour Walmart locations across the country will be participating in a major Killzone 3 pre-launch event. As part of the event, there will be a Killzone 3 tournament going on where you can win:
- A copy of Killzone 3
- Limited Edition Cloaking Helghast Marksman Action Figure
- Collectible Killzone 3 bags
The first 20 people to pick up Killzone 3 will receive:
- Limited Edition Killzone 3 Poster
- Voucher for the Retro Map Pack featuring two classic maps redesigned for Killzone 3
(*Warning: Video below may depict violent images)
Sony advises that you look up your nearest 24-hour Walmart location here, and call them to see if they will be participating in the launch event. If you’re heading out to Walmart to pickup a copy of Killzone 3, you just may end up getting a copy for free.

Wow I think this is the first Midnight launch for a Sony game that’s not multiplatform. Congrats Sony on your first Midnight launch.
February 8th, 2011
One Problem though. Why only Walmart and why only 24 hour locations? Come on Sony go hard or just don’t bother at all.
February 8th, 2011
It’s only the USA! That’s just stupid.
February 8th, 2011
CAD you ain’t going to buy it anyway, you’re a 360 fanboy, pure and simple. Stop trying to pretend you’re annoyed about it, it’s about as convincing as CONvict saying he don’t know where Bin Laden is hiding.
February 8th, 2011
And in unrelated news, the Kick A Saddo group has announced the latest dates and locations for a get together. Its at all 24h Walmart’s at on Feb 21 at Midnight.
February 8th, 2011
Whoa. This calls for a gamer with real skillzzz…
Wait a sec. Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird… no! It’s a plane… no!
It’s VULGAMOF to the rescue!
February 8th, 2011
It’s good to see Sony actually market a product.
February 8th, 2011
@CAD
Midnight launch on Monday is stupid… I rather get the next day.
It’s not like PS3 owners are desperate for new quality exclusives..360 will be left starving until Nov lol
February 8th, 2011
LOL yeah the xidiots are so desperate they have to line up at midnight. We don’t need that Sony. We are smart enough to pre-order games we want.
February 8th, 2011
Places that usually aren’t opened to midnight, should trouble themselves to do so because CAD thinks so. Wow…
CAD. do you give yourself a headache when you think to hard?
February 8th, 2011
LOL
February 8th, 2011
CAD will be the first in line, camping for 24hours to get that Michael Phelps swimming game
February 8th, 2011
@roca
Even if he turned up one minute before the launch, he’d still be first in the queue.
February 8th, 2011
@Dans303
Even if he showed up 10 days after launch he will be first in the queue.
February 8th, 2011
Cad,
If you preorder Michael Phelps you get a limited edition Speedo. Greenberg will love it.
February 8th, 2011
Killzone 3 will rock. While Ps3 people are playing great games, Xbox360 people will be waiting until fall for Gears Of War and another over-rated Halo re-make game. Lol….
February 8th, 2011
LOL Well it just goes to show that Killzone is no Halo, Gears of War, COD, or GTA.
February 8th, 2011
I can’t believe they are on Killjoyzone 3. There have been 2 more of these games. They must have slipped under the hype radar.
February 8th, 2011
You can buy Michael Phelps Speedos. Gotta get me some of those. Mind I am banned from my local pool after the “S” came off my last pair.
February 8th, 2011
Twilight Oh Come on. Child of Eden, Test Drive unlimited 2, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Bulletstorm, Brink, Crysis 2, L.A. Noire, Portal 2, Dragon age 2, Mortal Kombat, F.E.A.R. 3, True Crime: Hong Kong, Shift 2 Unleashed, Michael Jackson: The Experience, The First Templar, UFC Trainer, WWE All Stars, Gears of War Triple Pack, Brunswick Pro Bowling, Tropico 4, Body and Brain Connection, Winter Sports 3: The Great Tournament, Top Spin 4 and the list goes on.
How am I waiting for games? Hey maybe that’s why 3rd party just does better on the 360 because Microsoft is smart enough to allow others to have a piece of the pie. Sounds like a lot of great 3rd party games that are getting ignored by the PS3 crowd because they only spend money on first party exclusives.

“Sounds like a lot of great 3rd party games that are getting ignored by the PS3 crowd because they only spend money on first party exclusives.”
No one gets ignored CAD. PS3 sales are just spread out over many great games. The 360 sales all got to a couple of OK games. You are just too stupid to see that or you know you just ignore that fact to troll.
Unlike you I prefer options and no current GEN consol gives you more options then the PS3.
February 8th, 2011
god.. why does CAD keep listing so many shitty games?
I guess the lack of quality exclusive will do that to you
February 8th, 2011
MS really does have shit exclusives this year. The fact that you have to list 3rd party non exclusives speaks volumes CAD.
Maybe third party does do better on the 360. When making such a statement, you should be aware if that said statement should end with the “In the United States” at the end…. I’ve been checking out the third party fiscal results and it appears they make plenty of money off the PS3. In most instances, more money.
You could also look at this another way. Third party games could do worse on the PS3 because of the large catalog of awesome 1st party titles.
For instance, on Feb 22nd, when most PS3 players will be enjoying Killzone 2, most 360 users will have to go with Bulletstorm, by default if they want a game that week. PS3 owners also have that choice.
February 8th, 2011
I have many Multi platform games like RDR and many exclusive games.
February 8th, 2011
KZ3 Phranc.
February 8th, 2011
Every game is on the Ps3 as well. The only decent title that Microsoft has left is GOW. As far as Killzone 3 goes, this is going to be another excellent title for Sony.
February 8th, 2011
“Sounds like a lot of great 3rd party games that are getting ignored by the PS3 crowd because they only spend money on first party exclusives”
not true.. in January I bought LBP2, Dead Space 2 and ME2. Two miltiplatform and 1 first party title.
Feb, I’ll be getting MvC3, KZ3 and Bulletstorm. (I might hold on on MvC3)… We just have alot more and better options than 360 owners who have to get “what’s available”

Actually I think they’ve had quite a few Midnight launches for first party games, but I think this is the first Midnight Launch Event with a tournament. From what I understand this tournament will go on past midnight hence the 24hr Walmarts.
Basically its a social gathering where you go with friends play some Kilzone 3 and if you win a round you take home the game for free.
The crazy video is back up, for some reason experiencing issues with Youtube hosted vids.
What do you guys think of the new run, slide and jump maneuver in KZ3? See 1:15 in video.
February 8th, 2011
Run slide jump. .sounds like Vanquished. . .does it go into slow mo :^ )
February 8th, 2011
Cad,
I am honestly not interested in many of the titles that you mentioned except for Gears Of War, Bulletstorm, Topspin 4, Mortal Kombat, Fear 3, and maybe WWE all stars. The problem is that nearly all of the titles that you mentioned are also on the Ps3 as well.
February 8th, 2011
but but but…Jumping in games requires fizzziix..derp per derp..
February 8th, 2011
“Run slide jump. .sounds like Vanquished”
‘Vanquished’ seems the proper term when comparing to Killzone lol
February 8th, 2011
It’s sad that Platinum games can’t seem to catch a break.
Bayonetta was great. Vanquish also appears to be great according to reviews. Both games sell like garbage.
February 8th, 2011
Because they are too arcady and too japanese.
February 8th, 2011
“Bayonetta was great.”
It sucks ass! LOL
February 8th, 2011
Does it suck this?

February 8th, 2011
Phranctoast,
Bayonetta didn’t do too bad. It sold over a million copies. It sold a lot more copies on the Ps3 system. There is talk that there will be a sequel to this game which is fine with me.
February 8th, 2011
Ncaissie,
Bayonetta rocks! The boss battles in this game were awesome.
February 8th, 2011
I wouldn’t mind Sony buying Platinum games. I can’t believe I’m saying this but maybe then they’d be marketed properly. I saw nothing for Bayonetta and Vanquish on TV. Sony does push their exclusives hard.
February 8th, 2011
“Sony does push their exclusives hard”
wait for the KZ3 Kevin Butler commercial..
February 9th, 2011
Looks like the xbots might another to look forward to Gears Kinect
Joystiq reports:
“the unannounced game will be an on-rails shooter that automatically moves your meat-head man-tank while you mow down enemies.”
Day 1 for CAD
February 9th, 2011
So who’s all picking this up. Probably gonna be my first game in a while
February 10th, 2011
You’re finally back Romasanta?
I’m getting KZ3…12 more days
February 10th, 2011
@Roca
Yeah I’ll hopefully have reliable internet setup in the next seven days. If not I guess I’ll be playing it offline. I need to go pick up a couple games I didn’t have the opportunity to play.
Deadspace2, LBP2, etc.
