Free Realms and SOCOM 4 beta hits PS3
Similar to Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade promotion, Sony is continuing its Spring Fever 2011 promotion. Spring Fever on the PlayStation Store kicked off with winners of the gamers choice awards and now continues with some great hits.
Microsoft had some great promotions during the Summer of Arcade with Limbo and Tomb Raider several months back. Sony is now stepping things up with some crazy updates.
The Spring Fever Spotlight title for this week is:
PSN Exclusive – Moon Diver
It doesn’t get better than co-op side scrolling mech battles
In addition, Sony finally released Free Realms for the PS3 as well. You can download the basic game package for free and subscribe for the more advanced stuff. Free Realms makes it the second MMORPG to land on the PS3 after DC Universe Online.
Zipper drops a surprising demo on the store in the form of a MAG demo. Players can give the persistent MMOFPS a shot up until level 8 for free.
Mass Effect 2 – Arrival DLC also drops on the PSN which details the events right up to Mass Effect 3.
The two updates I am really excited about is The 3rd Birthday, the follow up to Parasite Eve and the beta for SOCOM 4. Gamers who picked up Killzone 3 should be able to enter in their promo code to download the beta.

Could be Tomba lol. The 2 Tomba games that came out on PS1 years ago were pretty well recieved. I can only imagine what a capable game dev would be able to do with the Tomba series now.

PS1 memories are awesome. My first PS1 game was CRIME KILLER FPS view car combat racing game from Interplay.

Yeah, Tomba was a great series. I’ve been hoping for so long now that Sony would wise up and re-release the 2 tomba games as Sony PS1 classics. I would waste no time buying them.
If done right I could imagine a new Tomba game to be an open world and have more RPG-like elements than the first game.

Ok ok, so now i have some GREAT news!
Tomba is comming to PSN.
There may be a catch though.
As far as I can tell so far I have only seen it confirmed for Europe, under Tombi (It was called Tombi outside the US). It was confirmed in Janurary, so thats not that long ago.
I say that if it is released in EU there is no way they are going to pass it by and not release it here in the US too. I have seen ALOT of people in US calling for it to be released and it definately looks like Sony will gives us the answer we are waiting for!

That was the same exact thing for me with Tomba. I played the demo on a PS underground disc.
I kinda miss the good ol days of getting the PS underground demo discs. I found some awsome PS1 games that way.

Yeah the PS underground demo discs were where I originally played most of my PS1 games. Including Cool Borders, Syphon Filter, Tomba, Crok, Mega Man Legends, Bushido Blade, Hot Shots Golf and many others.

I think Ivan is talking about the news of PS3 having the most active (connected to a TV) console between the PS3 and 360. We kind of knew this since the 360 install base is questionable.

You know I used to support 360 in the first few years before PS3 had a chance to evolve. It just doesn’t make sense after anymore after their price hike with XBL while PSN Plus is rocking PsOne Classics, PSN games, and Minis for less every month. My 360 hasn’t seen the light of day since I finished Red Dead last year. NGP will just be frosting on the cake later this year because of it’s integrated trophy system. 360 may be profitable for M$, but PS3 has won my heart and mind for the absolute best console of this generation, bar none.

If I were to hook up my 360 again next month, which I won’t, I would check out Torchlight and The First Templar, both of which are also on PC.
Never really messed with multiplayer on XBL, but hear that ikaruga, castle crashers, and magic the gathering are the best.
