Rumor: Wii 2 ‘Project Cafe’ details finally leaked?
According to a source, Nintendo is working on the next gen Wii console which will be announced at E3 later this year. From looking at the specs, the machine maybe packed with some heavy technology.
As reported by French site o1net [via CVG], Nintendo’s next gen Wii console, code named ‘Project Cafe’ will be revealed later this year. The site has been credited for revealing NGP specs way before it was officially announced.
According to the site the Project Cafe will utilize controllers with built-in high-res touch screens. The site also revealed that Project Cafe will have an architecture similar to that of the Xbox 360, but more powerful.
The device is said to come with a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from ATI R700 series with a 4.1 shader unit and with 512MB of RAM. The controllers will also have a six-inch touch screen, a camera, and motion sensing capabilities.
This rumor sounds completely plausible considering the credibility of the source. E3 2011 is looking like its shaping up nicely.

Again nintendpoo uses last gen tech on their POS conol. I hope this one fails out of the gate. I won’t be getting one.

My graphics card is a member of the ATI R700 series; the 4890. It probably really is time to upgrade if the Wii successor is gonna be using it. It is much more powerful than current console GFX cards, but I’d imagine that it’s quite underpowered in comparison to the next generation.

If they add an achievement/trophy system then it might be worth getting, otherwise forget about it. Even if it does have said system, so far 3DS does not look like it will be compatible, so NGP/PS3 still has the advantage.

They should up it to a Quad core, and 1GB of RAM
Go big or go home! Ya hear me Nintendo?

All they have to do is better than what they have done before. 2 Wii’s duct-taped together with a Mario/Zelda/Pokemon sequel, wireless wii-mote/nunchuks, an electronic scale that doesn’t tell fat people they are fat, 100 crap casual games, a $250 price point, and it will sell like hotcakes.

@Carl
No… What Pretendo really needs to do is stop ignoring Hardcore gamers.
I mean… Zelda, Mario, and Metroid is pretty much all they have for HC to play. That really sucks because the Wii is capableof so much more.

I know man, they really need to change their tune, or they might only lead by 20 million consoles next gen instead of 30.

“The controllers will also have a six-inch touch screen”
Anyone else think that is just a tad huge for a controller? As a frame of reference, iPod’s screen isn’t even four inches…
April 16th, 2011
-significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and 360
-Nintendo’s intent is to recapture the hardcore market
-1080p
-late 2012 launch
-pre-announcement this month with a full reveal expected at E3
-backwards compatible with current Wii software

Wake me up when Sony and M$ announce their consoles.
The GameCube and Wii both had some great games to offer, but the overall offering of games was pretty pathetic when compared to the other consoles on the market.
Nintendo is stuck in their ways. They’ll be telling games that they don’t want internet enabled games, instead of actually listening to them. This new console could be different, but I doubt they’ll change.

“Anyone else think that is just a tad huge for a controller?”
stupid huge… It’s just wants to bring more gimmicks to their next console.
Online network + plus trophy system + plus good exclusive + traditional controller is what will make me consider it.

The controller sounds absolutely unreal.
It sounds like a Dreamcast all over again.
April 16th, 2011
The Dreamcast VMU was like 1 inch… this is six… even so, people will still go batshit crazy over this late next year considering how well Wii did this gen.
Worldwide Weekly Top Ten Software Charts:
1 DS Pokémon Black / White Version 225,851
2 Wii Wii Sports 101,446
3 Wii Wii Sports Resort 97,343
4 X360 Crysis 2 88,462
5 Wii Just Dance 2 74,065
6 Wii Zumba Fitness 66,671
7 PSP Chikyuu Boueigun 2 Portable 63,939
8 PS3 Crysis 2 59,797
9 Wii Wii Fit Plus 58,665
10 X360 Homefront 57,921
So they have the casual wrapped up, both Sony and M$ are trying to capture the casual, while Ninty is looking to recapture the core next gen…

Meh, I made the mistake of buying a Wii.
At the time I justified if by saying that I wanted it for the few cool Nintendo games. At this point tho, all big N seem to be doing with thier first party stuff is rehashing it for all the new blood who purchased the Wii.
Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, etc. While all tweaking the formula a little, really were just clones of nintendos more popular first party moments.
I think this Zelda was the first I’ve not completed
It just felt so stale.
Damn you Nintendo, damn you…

Lol yeah I got sucked into getting one for my kids. Now they just play the ps3s.

Nintendo will always be perceived and known as a toy maker for children. Good luck to them trying to shake that.
Sony PlayStation has from day 1 been your older brothers console & entertainment machine and will never bow down to Nintendo’s level whether we like it or not.
So we will just have to live with both like it or not.
Not good for my pocket though.

Glad I never bother with a Wii
