Xbox Live and now PSN user accounts hacked – game consoles unsafe? [UPDATED]
Sony sent out an email update to all PSN members informing them of the possibility of having their personal information stolen when the system was initially hacked. Sony urges all users to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
As Sony indicated previously there was an “external intrusion” into the PlayStation Network/Qoricity service. Sony sent out an email to all PSN users informing them of exactly what has been happening during the outage.
The company turned off PSN in order to prevent any additional security breach into the system as well as launched a full investigation into the incident. The company has also engaged an outside security firm to also conduct a full and complete investigation.
Sony believes that an unauthorized person (note: one person) may have gained access to users personal information such as name, address, birthdate, email, and PSN ID.
In addition, while there is no evidence, there is the possibility that credit card data may have been obtained as well. Sony notes that the security codes (three digits on the back) for the credit cards were not obtained. Most likely the three digit codes are stored on a separate server.
Sony reports that there have been no confirmed incidents of user’s credit cards being used without authorization. However, the company urges users to remain vigilant and check credit card activity. Sony also provided information to obtain a free copy of your credit report as well as free monitoring service if desired.
With users moving towards online digital transactions, these types of incidents seem unavoidable. Back in 2007, Xbox Live suffered a similar incident when hackers were able to gain access to XBL/Windows Live accounts by hacking Bungie.net. Microsoft launched an investigation as users reported unauthorized purchases with their credit cards. Security firm, Digital Munition even raised the issue on the Full Disclosure mailing.
Even high security government agencies such as the Pentagon were hacked just a couple years ago by some Chinese hackers working out of their basement.
It’s difficult to fault these companies and agencies for getting hacked. You can be sure that companies such as Microsoft and Sony, that deal in retail transactions, have taken the necessary measures to keep its system secure. However, If someone wants to get into a system bad enough, chances are they will find a way. The only thing consumers can do is to keep a sharp eye out for any fraudulent activities.
**Update:
Patrick Seybold provided an update on the PlayStation Blog clarifying that Sony was aware of the external intrusion April 19th, but became aware of the scope of the breach only yesterday. Sony had a third party security firm help investigate the breach as well.
Seybold, states that Sony shared that information with the consumers the same day it realized that personal information may have been obtained.

@ Mike: kev will not be happy with your article heading lmfao!
I bet the hacker who done this is sat in his basement right now thinking ‘uh ok, didn’t mean for it to get this far …hope my mum don’t find out’ lol
April 27th, 2011
I’m just laughing how Mike Ferro contradicted himself, proved himself a liar, THEN tried to initiate damage control by shining a light on a 4 year old problem that happened to a very few xbox live members through Windows Live.
The point that all of you ps3 fanboys are ignoring is the years of B.S. you all have been spouting about how secure PSN is, how much better it is, and how much more stable it is than xbox live. It is clearly not.
It’s sad he wants to compare a few Window Live accounts hacked to the entire PSN being hacked with the extent of damage unknown.
The article reeks of desperation and damage control. I knew who wrote it simply by the title. The Jerry Springer of the gaming community, Mr. Mike Ferro. He loves to incite….
April 27th, 2011
@Kev,
There you go again. Its all linked in the story. Bungie.net was hacked and compromised Windows Live accounts associated with the site, not just a few. It was enough to warrant a full investigation by the company and enough for a security firm to issue a warning.
The point I am making is that even the Pentagon was hacked by a few Chinese hackers. There is no damage control, its a reminder that large companies Microsoft, Sony and even large banks such as Capital One have been hacked. Its not about who is more secure or some kind of contest. This is serious stuff here, Its a reminder to how vulnerable even the most secure systems are.
I’ve warned you about the insults Kev. you can still make your point minus the insults.
April 27th, 2011
The fact you clearly defend sony at every opportunity underscores this as damage control.
April 27th, 2011
Mike, you just stated “Bungie.net was hacked”, yet your article says Xbox live was hacked. This is not accurate.
Can the word “liar” be an insult if it actually applies?
April 27th, 2011
I think he/she’s going to cry.
April 27th, 2011
oldschool – you could be right, but Mike may be tougher than you think.
April 27th, 2011
correction:
Mike, you just stated “Bungie.net was hacked”, yet your article TITLE says Xbox live was hacked. This is not accurate.
Can the word “liar” be an insult if it actually applies?
April 27th, 2011
yeah..i didn’t think he’d answer the question. ‘Night mates!
April 27th, 2011
@kev,
Comment deleted.
So now I’m some dishonest writer with no sense of integrity that makes stuff up?
Look up the definition of insult. Not sure why you keep insisting on dragging me into your insults.
Can’t say I didn’t warn you enough. I will be approving your comments manually until you behave.
My title says Xbox Live accounts hacked. By hacking Bungie.net, hackers were able to hack into Xbox Live accounts allowing them to make purchases etc…
April 27th, 2011
Lol nice one Mike.
April 27th, 2011
@old – Good call on the kev flame-baiting at the top of the comments
I think Mike does it for the giggles to be honest.
April 27th, 2011
@ SW: lol, kev is more predictable than Nostradamus :p
April 27th, 2011
So where are the xboys that say digital downloads are the future of gaming consoles? Defend you digital download only Xbox doohickey, now.
I’d rather stick with a company that resists & condemn piracy than a multi-billion companies like Nintendo & M$ that just stand there and do nothing… hoping that pirated software help them sell their hardware- modded or not.
April 27th, 2011
Gunstar
I’m not sure you fully grasp how difficult stopping piracy actually is.
MS did all they could, and continue to do all they can about Hackers & cheats. Just as Sony will do.
Problem is once the console is hacked , It’s Hacked, Xbox got hacked much sooner than the PS3, not because M$ didn’t bother, they went to huge lengths to try and make the system secure, but the 360 was targeted early on and was quickly compromised.(It’s Microsoft after all and hacker love Microsoft)
When the hackers started to put the effort against Sony, they beat the PS3 too, despite it being considered unhackable.
just about the only system hackest have not really botherd with is linux, not because its unhackable, but because they like it (for now)
These hackers are not just morons, they are extremely clever individuals, how are without doubt should be employed and doing something constructive with there talents rather than doing what they do.
M$ has managed to keep live secure since it was compromised despite constant attempts by hackers I hope Sony is able to do the same, so we can all get back to gaming.
I also hope they track down this arsehole, and string him up by his balls.
As for the PS3 you only have to do a quick search on the right sites to see it now has a flourishing piracy scene..just like the 360.
This is not because M$ & Sony don’t do anything about it, it’s because it’s very difficult to do anything about it.
Sony did the right thing in unplugging the network, before the system was exploited by further hackers. here’s hoping they get it all sorted soon.
April 27th, 2011
PS
Mike, the title is flame bait. I know you probably can’t see that, but it is.
April 27th, 2011
kev – “shining a light on a 4 year old problem that happened to a very few xbox live members through Windows Live.”
Yet in a previous article kev said “You’re referring to the 13 day outage caused by the huge influx of new halo users online. They underestimated the demand and weren’t ready for the huge online gaming volume.”
Which is it kev?
April 27th, 2011
If that’s the case and xbl outage for 14 days was due to poor planning and not hacking, it looks like MS is to blame and not hackers. Congrats kev for making MS look stupid. Lol.
April 27th, 2011
I’m having a laugh at kev trying to make out mike to be a liar with a semantics argument.
In 2007:
Bungie=Microsoft
Xbl info was compromised by MS.
Even if XBL itself was not hacked, it’s info was and obtained from hacking MS.
April 27th, 2011
Kev hypocrisy:
If mike posts a topic title that kev can use to belittle Sony or Sony developers he jumps all over it as proven here
http://gamer.blorge.com/2011/04/20/david-jaffe-talks-about-why-twisted-metal-is-fun/
He does this without even listening to the interview in question.
Now if Mike posts a topic that puts MS in negative light and that the only way to negate it is through semantical word play, Mike is a liar.
Lmfao you fucking douche hypocrite. Ouch. Lol.
April 27th, 2011
“So where are the xboys that say digital downloads are the future of gaming consoles? Defend you digital download only Xbox doohickey, now.”
Ummm… Sony had the first digital download only console, and it has also been affected by this: PSPGo.
If you are going to state digital downloads are not the future because of this incident, you might as well state online multiplayer will also decline because of it. This isn’t about digital downloads only, it is about any console that happens to be connected to the internet.
“Mike, the title is flame bait. I know you probably can’t see that, but it is.”
Gl, I agree, and I’ve also given him this same feedback in the past. As a rule, it seems he is physically incapable of any purely negative article against PS3 alone. If it does happen to be critical of PS3, either 360 is presented as being just as bad, or the issue is sugar coated. Dave doesn’t have this bias, as evidenced by his last article on the subject.
April 27th, 2011
If I were to call Kev a retard is it an insult even though its true?
April 27th, 2011
I don’t agree with the manner in which Kev is trying to get his point across but he has a valid point. The extent of Sony’s damage being compared to what has happened to Microsoft is not the same. This whole issue with Sony is atrocious. People’s personal information was hacked with Sony and Sony didn’t think enough of their of their customers to report this until a week later.
April 27th, 2011
@Carlb.
There were multiple articles about Sony and this situation, and plenty of posts where the bank is being blamed and not the bank robber. There’s been one hypocritical post after another, especially in light that XBL was down for two weeks, and XBL info was indeed obtained through Bungie which as a first party, IS Microsoft.
Mike putting this in his article is simply a knee jerk reaction to the hypocrites.
Why complain about it now? This happens all the time in other situations. We’ll all get into an argument in one thread and Mike tailors an article to continue that debate while providing some additional counterpoints.
April 27th, 2011
“Its difficult to fault these companies and agencies for getting hacked. ”
It is but the cunts in the UK are thinking about giving Sony a $500,000 fine for it.
April 27th, 2011
I will be approving Kev’s comments manually from now on… you won’t see anything from Kev unless I say so
What’s wrong with the titles? I see that Mike is making about point about gaming consoles are not secure enough and that our info can be accessed. Mike provided proof for both cases (XBL and PSN) so there is nothing here to whine about.
darn it, here I was hoping to have fun Kev.
April 27th, 2011
“The point that all of you ps3 fanboys are ignoring is the years of B.S. you all have been spouting about how secure PSN is,”
Please post a link and quote you liar. We have been touting how secure the PS3 is. Fuck you are a lying POS.
April 27th, 2011
should you be allowed to do whatever you want with your console? well apparantly one person did something he wanted, hacking PSN and probably collecting users’ info? This is no different than pirating & cheating in online games and trying to hack your console and expect PSN access. Just in this case the harm is more critical.
Hopefully GeoHotz and all others pirates didn’t have his personal info on PSN
April 27th, 2011
“This is serious stuff here,”
He may figure that out when he grows up and gets his own credit card.
I’m not taking any chances. I have a new card coming in the mail.
April 27th, 2011
“There were multiple articles about Sony and this situation”
Yes. I just think it is humorous the difference in title tone and focus between Dave’s and Mike’s in general.
Dave: “PSN Still Down: Has Sony Fscked Up?”
Mike: “Sony brought down PSN on Purpose For Maintenance”
April 27th, 2011
“When the hackers started to put the effort against Sony, they beat the PS3 too, despite it being considered unhackable.”
LMAO You are twisting it to sound like they just started to hack the PS3 when it happened. Figures you are not man enough to tell the truth. We all know MS used the insecure PC architecture and I think a windows based OS.

” Sony had the first digital download only console, and it has also been affected by this: PSPGo.”
So the iphone/ipod touch was a consol when you argued with me but now it’s not and the PSP go was the first? LOL ok.
April 27th, 2011
“People’s personal information was hacked with Sony and Sony didn’t think enough of their of their customers to report this until a week later.”
I’m kind of glad they didn’t. They probably needed time to track the fucker down. If they did the guy may have disappeared.
April 27th, 2011
LOL..
Yeah. Mike should have added a ? at the end of
“Sony brought down PSN on Purpose For Maintenance”

<———- This.
ncaissie is correct. You change your arguments like the wind kev.
There have been plenty of PSN vs XBL debates before, but now according to you the debates were about security?
HAHHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. laughable Douche.
April 27th, 2011
“People’s personal information was hacked with Sony and Sony didn’t think enough of their of their customers to report this until a week later”
Sony stated –
“There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon”
At least they didn’t hasitate and shut down PSN right away which shows how far they were willing to go to protect their users. They could have just leave PSN on while investigating the issue.

I don’t think it was done with a hacked PS3 Roca.
Come on Roca. So the idiot used a PC, Should we lock down or get rid of all PCs?

Here’s another one Mike.

More proof that people just want free shit. It happens to all consoles.

It’s an insult to retards. Even the low functioning ones.

“should you be allowed to do whatever you want with your console?”
I can think of something a friend told me that would be a good response here..
An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will
Also I want to say that this situation is utter BS. One thing that pisses me off is that Sonly only wants to give free stuff to Plus members when EVERYONE was affected. Thats a shitty move. Also this situation was just revealed to be worse than we all thought. What is Sony going to do about that huh? Probably jack shit.
Id say this situation has proven to be much worse than when Live went down a few years ago.
What will any of us do here if our IDs and credit info were stolen huh? Do you really think Sony will do anything about it?
April 27th, 2011
@ncaissie
Until the full report comes out we’re relying on rumors. The latest rumor flying around was PSN being accessed with a custom firmware enabled PS3.
April 27th, 2011

I cancelled mine and had a new card sent. It will be here in less than 7 days and my wife still has a card on that account so we can still use it if we need to.

I can see it from work but from the link it looks like it says they access free downloads not the user info. Why would Sony give Developers access to User information?
April 27th, 2011
Also that rumor was before Sony even stated what happened.

“Until the full report comes out we’re relying on rumors. The latest rumor flying around was PSN being accessed with a custom firmware enabled PS3″
hackers doing “what they’re entitle to” with their consoles. It’s always been about hacking and pirating. This is all related to hack released by Hotz and company.
April 27th, 2011
We knew of “an external intrusion” since Saturday.
April 27th, 2011
@CAD
The problem is that Xbox doesn’t have anything, specially good quality exclusives. LOL LOL LOL
April 27th, 2011
I say we cut the ps3 boys some slack. Cant be great that they have had all there account details put in the public domain.
April 27th, 2011

what site do you visit now that you don’t come to blorge as often as you used to?

“So the iphone/ipod touch was a consol when you argued with me but now it’s not and the PSP go was the first?”
You’re right, thanks for reminding me that iOS devices were the first popular consoles to introduce download only. The main point remains. Download only devices success isn’t ruined in the future because of this incident.
April 27th, 2011
And give your personal information and Credit Card to hacker too LOL
April 27th, 2011
“The problem is that Xbox doesn’t have anything”
Except online service and multiplayer for the most popular online games right now.
April 27th, 2011
I know. Seriously though. I bet all your mamma’s and dadda’s aren’t too pleased that their credit card details are in the hands of internet porn gangs.
April 27th, 2011
And does it really take a week to realize that users information has been compromised from an external intrusion?
April 27th, 2011
“hackers doing “what they’re entitle to” with their consoles. It’s always been about hacking and pirating. This is all related to hack released by Hotz and company.”
That is not what we are talking about. People in the US are able to have guns but can shoot anyone. You can own a consol and hack the shit out of it but when you start hacking PSN or other gamers PS3s or cheating online then it is wrong. Not the hack but the use against others.
April 27th, 2011
“We knew of “an external intrusion” since Saturday.”
That doesn’t say “We knew of “an external intrusion” with a hacked PS3 since Saturday.”
April 27th, 2011
“I love the title you stupid goof. Yeah try a little harder to make it seem like the Xbox is having this problem. LOL LOL LOL.”
Looks like CAD needs moderation too.
April 27th, 2011
The people that I feel sorry for the most are the innocent Ps3 gamers who just want to play their games who are caught in the crossfire of this madness. There are rumors that these people are going to continue to attack Sony even after Psn comes back up again. This is insanity.
April 27th, 2011
Fahkin
It is speculated on what sony would offer, no word from sony about that at all, and speculation agrees if compensation was psn+ only would be stupid…
@CAD/Kev
The only reason your bothered with the title is because its the truth: neither psn nor live are 100% secure….no matter how much better live is than psn, its simply not the case….live was cracked much sooner than psn…which cost live 14 days….to which ms was able to react and prevent further damage….their used to being constantly attacked, yet didn’t admit to the problem at first either…remember the initial rrod fiasco..yeah denied it at first….now its sonys turn in to be in he hacked hot seat and…their actions with dealing with the results is admirable….take down the network, put it somewhere more secure….but, they dropped the ball in communication…<— this is what people ar more upset about more than anything….so, stfu, and lets remind you of the following:
Ps3 still is kicking 3rd60s ass, as the 360s years of riding off its year headstart is over
10 million 360s were indeed rebought 360s, bloating up it sales, just like we fucking told your bitchasses
More people play through psn than live (live numbers out of all 360 fanbase HALF are live members and HALF of those live members are gold subs which is ~ 10 million dummies….
All you have to look forward this year is phelps shorts and gears 3…. we still got infamous 3, twistes metal, last guardian etc…
To top it off, battlefield developers DICE recently gave kudos to only Sony for pushing the graphical boundaries this generation….no mention of 360 at all…in fact quite a few developers are even being more vocal about how the 360 is at its limits…
No wonder your hiding in your mohthers basement…only coming out when ps3 has bad news…you don't have shit to talk about while we have plenty of actual game discussions…back to the cave you peons…
April 27th, 2011
“You can own a consol and hack the shit out of it”
One thing leads to another. hacking PSN hurt PS3 users. hacking for piracy hurts users, developers, publishers and console makers.

Another interesting tidbit about CAD/Kev/HH/CON/AndrewDS…
You guys never, ever really talk about….ya know, that thing we do..oh yeah game..
Birdman, carlb, myself, roca, godless, fahkin, futureofsega not only talk about games but have actually played each other….
April 27th, 2011
“Ps3 still is kicking 3rd60s ass, as the 360s years of riding off its year headstart is over”
I think this may have put a dent in Sony’s recent sales success. Depending on how long it lasts or is intermittent for, it could even put them right back in third, which is really sad, considering they were doing so well because of their extra efforts to make it a better product with better services.
I know it may sound silly, but can anyone here put M$ sabotage out of the question? Corporate sabotage can actually be quite rampant from what I’ve read… and M$ doesn’t exactly have a sparkling reputation as a fair practice competitor.
April 27th, 2011
FFXIII now… it’s an abortion compared to my favorite RPG’s… but I’m still playing just because it has a smidge of FF charm…
April 27th, 2011
It’s all Sony’s fault and you know it. They messed with the hacker and now they are getting burned. Just look at the Xbox 360, it’s been hacked but it doesn’t stop it form being at the top of sales for games. Hackers are going to hack so why fight it. Microsoft at least has meetings with hacker while Sony takes them to court.
April 27th, 2011
“And give your personal information and Credit Card to hacker too LOL”
I have a new card coming. I’m not worried. They also increased my limit by $2,500 at the same time. I f you keep it paid off they keep increasing it in hopes you will use it to the point that you have to pay interest on it.
April 27th, 2011
Jeez JoJo, have you been getting grammar lessons from Ivan? You forgot a “WITH” from your last sentence.
April 27th, 2011
I am still pissed at Sony for me loosing my 4 day weekend game time. Not as bad because taking it down was the right thing to do. I am still pissed that they got hacked. Sony should know better. And MS should know even more because Software is their main focus. I think Sony needs to buy out a security company to go full time on their shit.
April 27th, 2011
@CarlB
“FFXIII now… it’s an abortion compared to my favorite RPG’s… but I’m still playing just because it has a smidge of FF charm…”
It’s a good game in its own way, but directly compared to every other Main Story FF game it is lacking.
I have been thining of going back to it myself, so I can finish up some of the achievements.
I’m actually closing in on the 50K mark so im looking to finish up some easy achievements in the next couple weeks.

But Microsoft has always proven to be such a trust worthy non anti competitive company /sarcasm
April 27th, 2011
“One thing leads to another.”
Just like buying a gun leads to murder and buying a PC leads to Hacking. Buying CD/DVD/BR burners leads to pirating movies and software. It is wrong and not everyone does that. People should not be restricted from doing non harmful things because a few idiots do wrong things. Ever heard the expression “don’t let a few bad apples spoil the bunch”? That thinking will hold back progress. Hacking is the mother of invention and should not be condemned. I can’t imagine where we would be if people didn’t try doing new things with items. You sure wouldn’t be on a PC typing right now. Apple and MS would not have created a “personal computer” from a business machine.

for what, to collect dust like mine. There aren’t that games on 360 that will make want it over a PS3… unlike the 360, PS3 have so many quality games that are just as fun offline. I’m mainly playing MK, while trying to finish Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and doing another playthrough of Heavy rain, God of War 3(w/different skins)

Comment Deleted. You know the rules, we’ve had a long talk about this.
April 27th, 2011
“There aren’t that games on 360 that will make want it over a PS3…”
Except for right now with the most popular online multiplayer games… err… playing any game online.
@phranc,
You beat me to it, I actually had it copied and ready to paste for after the next refresh… I really wouldn’t put it past them.
How much business do you think Sony is losing (and M$ subsequently gaining) for every day this is ongoing?
April 27th, 2011
Its too late to stop jerking off. My dick looks like a turkey twizler! DOH!
What did he say Mike? WHAT DID HE SAY? I need to know so badly. Ha ha.
April 27th, 2011
Jojo,
As shocking as it maybe to you, Cad actually plays Xbox360 games. He’s quite a gamer.
April 27th, 2011
“Except for right now with the most popular online multiplayer games… err… playing any game online”
which I can get on for PC/Steam and play online for..err..FREE
“How much business do you think Sony is losing (and M$ subsequently gaining) for every day this is ongoing?”
That is Sony’s problem, as long as I keep getting quality exclusives it’s all good… and just like ncaissiea, even thought it sucks that PSN is down that was the right move and I’m glad Sony shut it down the minute they spotted the attack.
I’m still able to game on my PS3, use the browser, watch netflix and play multiplayer via the good old local coop.
April 27th, 2011
I also think it’s humorous how Kotaku isn’t “chronicling” complete with a day counter and snide comments as they did with the XBL outage.
April 27th, 2011
“Hacking is the mother of invention and should not be condemned. ”
Yeah…Fuck that.
Recently “an unauthorized entry into Epsilon’s email system” occurred. The next day my email address was spamming a trojan in a link sent out to my whole address book.
April 27th, 2011
“How much business do you think Sony is losing (and M$ subsequently gaining) for every day this is ongoing?”
Probably a decent amount.
My COD only playing friend is considering getting a 360. Quite frankly considering the poor net code of Black Ops on the PS3, I’m surprised it’s taken this long.
April 27th, 2011
“which I can get on for PC/Steam and play online for..err..FREE”
You can get the latest edition of Mortal Kombat on Steam?
April 27th, 2011
@twilight
I’m sure he is busy playing halo….and gears….and halo….fable…lol
I’m sure he does although, judging by his posts one would hardly think that is the case
April 27th, 2011
“I also think it’s humorous how Kotaku isn’t “chronicling” complete with a day counter and snide comments as they did with the XBL outage.”
Wasn’t that during Xmas holiday? I know from a Christian point of view Easter is more important, but form a gamers point of view it isn’t…
Maybe that’s why. Not sure exactly when XBL was down.
April 27th, 2011
“That is Sony’s problem, as long as I keep getting quality exclusives it’s all good”
It’s not “all good” if Sony and other devs lose enough money to postpone or even shut down production of those exclusives like they already have. What is a problem for Sony is a problem for it’s exclusives as well.
April 27th, 2011
“You can get the latest edition of Mortal Kombat on Steam?”
don’t need to, I’ve been playing it on PS3.
April 27th, 2011
Online?
April 27th, 2011
“Online?”
as far as I can tell, the game is not an online-only game and it has an insane amount of offline content to keep me busy for a while. I’m not even close to being done with all the offline stuff.
April 27th, 2011
I’m interested to see where me and you are on trophies % carlb.
We pretty much were dead even the last time I checked.
April 27th, 2011
Mike come on you know the title is BS
April 27th, 2011
“Mike come on you know the title is BS”
The title is 100% correct.
April 27th, 2011
Why bring up a problem from long ago? How desperate are you to try and throw the 360 in the same light as the PS3. Sorry dude but I can get online and my account is not hacked so keep trying. We all know you hate the 360 it’s no surprise.
April 27th, 2011
@CarlB
like I said, it sucks that PSN is down.
Even though a lot of ppl are probably not going to like it, Sony’s move was the right thing to do.
They can take some of the criticism off their back though.
1. Even thought Sony doesn’t have to, they should give gamers something for free. A PSN game, Movie, free month of PSN+, etc
2. Letting us know if our info was “actually” take. As of right now they say it’s a possibility but they can’t confirm it.
3. Bring PSN back improved and some new features.
It’ll be awesome if they can do all 3. Number 1 has not been decided yet. Number 2 is TBA, they will probably let us know once they found out. As of right now they haven’t had any complaints about fradulent cc charges.
And number 3 is already rumor:
“As we’re rebuilding the network, we are into consideration in implementing features such as cross game chat and in-game video chat to name a few.
I cannot confirm any new features at this time but expect a massive update when the network is restored”
April 27th, 2011
@CAD
“Why bring up a problem from long ago?”
he’s main point is that no network is safe to keep hackers away and they both hacked. He never said XBL is being hack right now.
April 27th, 2011
@CAD,
Problem wasn’t around what you thought of the title.
April 27th, 2011
Guys,
this is what started it all IMO. A taunt and bright beacon for all hackers. Love the custom google search.
http://gamer.blorge.com/2010/01/26/bbc-ps3-hacker-wants-nothing-to-do-with-piracy/
“It seems like Sony has its work cut out as it tries to scramble around to figure out how to protect probably the most secure home console ever made”
I don’t really understand this but if xbox got hacked from bungie through an open back door access to xbox account then it sound like they had an oops…
April 27th, 2011
Ok Fine I understand but what do you expect when you try to bring down Microsoft on an issue that’s old news. We all know had the situation been flipped and this happened to Microsoft that you would NEVER bring up any network issues with Sony. If anything happens to Sony you always turn to Microsft to mention any issues that might be similiar to not make Sony look so bad. Yes your bias and we all know it and I hope you know it. You deserve any bad language or names thrown at you because of your bias. That’s why you stood by monitoring this thread because you knew what to expect. Your conscious was already guilty. Your a terrible writer Mike, sorry but your are and it shocks me that your allowed to write garbage.
April 27th, 2011
Jesus CAD. The story is about the security and integrity of consoles and your information. PS3 was breached. 360 was breached. Is your information really safe?
Stop turning this into a Sony vs MS topic.
Here…I’ll start.
To PS3 users:
When the networks back up, what do you plan on doing.
Me:
I’m taking all CC info off and I only using PSN cards from now on.
April 27th, 2011
Just picked up Far Cry 2 for $10. The preorder edition. One more game to play
I have a shit load of game I need to finish up.
April 27th, 2011
“but what do you expect when you try to bring down Microsoft on an issue that’s old news.”
He wasn’t brining down MS you idiot. He is doing a comparison and other than the POS Wii there are no other consoles to compare with. Grab a fucking brain already you moron.
April 27th, 2011
Drop the Bam Hammer Mike
April 27th, 2011
“Me:
I’m taking all CC info off and I only using PSN cards from now on.”
The same goes for me. I Have money in my account. I’ll be changing my PW fast. Sony needs to warn us when it goes back up so we can be ready to change our passwords.
April 27th, 2011
Ban Hammer LOL
April 27th, 2011
“I’m taking all CC info off and I only using PSN cards from now on”
I was just re-enrolling (during my lunch break) to the benefits offered by my employer..and at the very end the rep on the phone said “do you want enroll for our indentity theft proction plan for $3/mom” – I was FOR SHIZZLES
she told they monitor everything under my name nationally and internationally and I’m covered up to $25,000 in damages.
April 27th, 2011
@CAD,
“Ok Fine I understand but what do you expect when you try to bring down Microsoft on an issue that’s old news.”
I am not bringing Microsoft or Sony down. My point is I don’t expect any game console out there to even stand a chance against a focused attack by hackers. I really don’t expect these two companies to have military grade security in place like the Pentagon or FBI, which were also hacked by couple hackers outside the country.
“We all know had the situation been flipped and this happened to Microsoft that you would NEVER bring up any network issues with Sony.”
Have you seen the number of articles we have dedicated to PS3 getting hacked and this outage?
April 27th, 2011
Blorge is a circus right now… shit
How about something different?
I got a question for everyone here. What video game music (official soundtrack kinda stuff), or liscensed music used in a game, do you guys like?
Years ago Jet Set Radio got me info a couple new bands like Professional Murder Music and Cold.
Also I really like the offical soundtrack to FF7, as well as the (unofficial) sountrack to Breath of fire 3
April 27th, 2011
@Mike
“Have you seen the number of articles we have dedicated to PS3 getting hacked and this outage?”
Now this is purely me joking around here…
This is because everyone knows Gamer Blorge is all about Sony.
April 27th, 2011
@FahKin
my favoring songs/soundtracks
-Final Fantasy 7
-Twisted Metal series
-God of War
-Tetris
-Gran Turismo 1 & 2 intro songs
-Trine
-Grand Tour (PS1)
April 27th, 2011
@FahKin & Mike
CAD is overreacting. There is nothing wrong with this article and Mike is trying to say that online data is never safe. Even Nasa and the Pentagon’s data were breach.
April 27th, 2011
@Fahk,
Believe me, I think everyone is getting sick about daily updates around the PSN outage or the hacking/Geohotz issue including me.
Big stories around Microsoft has been scarce lately. We do a fair amount of Kinect coverage. Its not like last year were I could write about Conviction and Alan Wake, which are two great games.
I think E3 will change all that with more Gears 3 news and hopefully Crytek’s Kingdom reveal.
April 27th, 2011
@Roca
Silly me… I dunno how I could of forgotten about many of the songs in Lumines 1&@
Shining is just an amazing track
April 27th, 2011
Also was just reading the other topic and Dans totally reminded me of how awsome the GladOs “Still Alive” song from Portal is lmao
April 27th, 2011
@Mike
Since your patrolling Gamer Blorge today I have a question for you.
Do you have any idea why I can’t post anything on the Tech Blorge?
April 27th, 2011
“I got a question for everyone here. What video game music (official soundtrack kinda stuff), or liscensed music used in a game, do you guys like?”
I have and like the GOW soundtrack and HM album.
Other than that I don’t really pay attention to soundtracks except from the Smallville show.
April 27th, 2011
FahKinSuPah,
My favorite gaming soundtrack at the moment is Castlevania Lords Of Shadows. The price went down on the collector’s edition so I picked up a copy of the game with the soundtrack on 360.
April 27th, 2011
Phranctoast,
I’m doing the same with Psn.
April 27th, 2011
@Fahk,
It looks like your comments are being thrown into the spam filter. I’ll ask the admin to take a look at it.
April 27th, 2011
LMAO @ Fahks go in the spam filter and not Ivans?
April 27th, 2011

April 27th, 2011
@Mike
Thanks for taking a look at it for me. I appreciate it. Aside from Gamer I usually check out articles on Tech and not being able to share my unique opinion was starting to bug me
April 27th, 2011
I think I might have an idea of how it happened anyway.
I think there is a writer in Tech who has no idea what “Freedom of speech” means.
April 27th, 2011
LMAO FahKin got banned from Tech.Blorge for spamming threads.

“Kev being moderated has to be some of the funniest shit ever.”
Because he is a dumbass
April 27th, 2011
@ Godless
I came from a city just a few hours from Hong Kong piracy capital of the world, where these British hackers spread their evil. I have pirated my console games from the NES, SNES, Genesis,PSOne,Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PS2 to Xbox 360.
That is the kind of piracy I am talking about: when you walk down the street and see a $2.50 Xbox 360 DVD game copy of Halo:Reach or New Super Mario Brothers Wii being sold in the sidewalks.
Yeah its a huge undertaking to fight piracy but at least for years Sony is giving it a great fight against hacktivists & pirates, unlike M$ & Nintendo who are helpless even before they released their consoles.
Now that’s innovation in the real world.
April 27th, 2011
“Have you seen the number of articles we have dedicated to PS3 getting hacked and this outage?”
@Mike
Yeah and in every single one you just had to make a point about Xbox Live being out for 2 Weeks. After Kev pissed you off you made a even begger deal about it refering to the kataku article like it was the gospel. For the record I never experience the outage and neither did Harry and I’m in Canada and he is in Australia. In fact I think I only came to know about it because of Blorge during those times and I got the free game which was Undertow during that time even though I was not affected and so did Harry. I believe it was probably regional or maybe just the USA so it was never wide spread. It just amazes me that you can’t see your bias. I know your looking for hits but have some integrity.
April 27th, 2011
Anyways I think it safe to say I won’t be buying a PS3 anymore giving what has happened. I was really thinking about it this year but I’m offically passing on it and maybe all their future products to since their service is not a secure one.
April 27th, 2011
“Anyways I think it safe to say I won’t be buying a PS3 anymore giving what has happened. I was really thinking about it this year but I’m offically passing on it and maybe all their future products to since their service is not a secure one.”
I guess you won’t be buying anything ever again, then?
Nothing is safe from this type of attack. Hell, even the Pentagon can get hacked into.
Now who is being biased?
All you can do is to protect yourself as best as possible from this type of thing (eg using wallet amounts instead of your CC).
April 27th, 2011
Fucking Sony.
I get that they were hacked into, like you said Mike, even the Pentagon isn’t safe, but to take so long to get information out is just not fucking acceptable. Frankly I won’t be surprised if Sony get sued up the ass for this.
Kev & CAD, you can fucking whine like a couple of fucking schoolgirls who got stood up at the prom all you want, but the fact remains both XBL and PSN have been hacked.
This article isn’t bashing one console over the other, what it’s trying to do is point out that no system is completely foolproof.
The first rule I learnt from playing sport is that no matter how good you think you are, there is always someone better.
MS have learnt it, and now Sony are learning it the hard way.
@CAD “I’m offically passing on it and maybe all their future products” then go back to the dark ages you fucking tosser, Sony has their tentacles in so many things your toaster probably has parts made by Sony.
Fuckers like you give gamers a bad fucking name.
Speaking of gaming, L.A. Noire is looking pretty fucking sweet. My Missus pre-ordered it for me for my birthday at the same time she bought Shogun 2.
April 27th, 2011
@CAD
your personal info is not safe anywhere.
I switched from MSN to Gmail because my previous 3 MSN accounts were all hacked. They were spamming everyone in my address book and I couldn’t even log back on. I have to contact Microsoft to do a hard reset on my accounts.
who is to blame here, MS or the hackers?
I think hackers.
Here is what BBC got from a conversation with a Sony rep earlier today:
“We’re not getting anything on the record from Sony, but off the record they’re saying, credit card details are probably not compromised, but that is obviously a big worry for people who use the network.
April 27th, 2011
Well I am beginning to see it. All the blorges from April 21 to now in regards to PSN issue, there’s always xbox involvement. What a troll Mike

How about this one, “XBL remains online and secure while PSN goes offline and compromises millions of gamers credit card information”
April 27th, 2011
“3. Bring PSN back improved and some new features.”
Like having to input codes. joy.
April 27th, 2011
Glad I didn’t leave any CC details on my PSN account. It’s a shame, I picked up RE5 for $10 last week and was going to play co-op with my brother in law. I guess that’s going to wait.
Has there been any indication when it will be back up?
April 27th, 2011
“I’m interested to see where me and you are on trophies % carlb.
We pretty much were dead even the last time I checked.”
You probably blew past me as 3D Dot Game Heroes and FFXIII have slowed me down considerably.
April 27th, 2011
Sony is “working on a new system software update that will require all users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored.” It’s also been confirmed that PSN is being physically rebuilt as a result of last week’s intrusion. SCEA PR director Patrick Seybold states in the FAQ that the company is “moving our network infrastructure and data center to a new, more secure location, which is already underway.”
I can care less about my credit card info. I have faith in Sony plus I’m so broke LMFAO.
April 27th, 2011
@Harry
“Has there been any indication when it will be back up?”
Sony wrote this today: “Our employees have been working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure.”
April 27th, 2011
So another week then? At least it gives me more time to finish Crysis 2 and play in the Gears 3 beta a little more. Heh I also got that Michael Jackson game for $40, I haven’t opened it yet, may do that tonight. He’s bad, I’m worse.
April 27th, 2011
I love the fact this is the first 115+ post thread that has nothing to do with me lol
My opinion is that Sony pretty much owes gamers some sort of compensation at this point. It’s been a week.
If you really think about it (and I’m well aware I’m about to receive diarrhea amounts of shit for this), Sony deserved this. They spat in the faces of the hackers when they threatened them, and hubris always gets owned. It never fails. Sure, a lot of people are really affected, including me, but it’s really Sony’s fault. They should have handled the Geohot situation better, and (imo) never removed homebrew and other OS. I don’t care how you feel about it, but OtherOS made PS3 better.
@Mike
To be honest, I do kind of think the title was poor myself. I’m no one to call you biased, but there honestly was no reason for that specific title, given the content of the article and the clear thesis presented. It would easily have worked without XBL being mentioned (in the title. I totally understand why it was mentioned within the article itself, however). I’ve majored in and earned a degree in English, and am on the way to teaching it, so I know a spin job when I see one. I’d have to give this article a B.
April 27th, 2011

April 27th, 2011
“it made it so much better than no never used it”
LOL
But seriously some people used it. I never got the chance, but come on, the issues that plague PS3 OS are ridiculous.
My main issue is the browser. I use this a LOT. A LOT. Using it now I know PS3 browser in and out, and let me tell you:
It is FUCKED UP.
It’s not worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin it on
April 27th, 2011
Didn’t I read somewhere that PS3 is going to get a Google Chrome browser soon?
April 27th, 2011
If that ever comes to pass…
Hell, Skype was supposed to have been on the damned console. How stupid is it to have Skype on the PSP and not the PS3?
You know, the console with the PSEye.
April 27th, 2011
Watching the new episode of South Park… Wow this shit is fucked up!
April 27th, 2011
Well they need to do something about the PS3 browser. I gave up on it after the umpteenth crash/freeze. Chrome would be nice.
April 27th, 2011
Chrome should be coming to PS3, if rumors are true.
April 28th, 2011
i posted: “So where are the XBOYS that say digital downloads are the future of gaming consoles? Defend you digital download only Xbox doohickey, now.”
guess who’s the first to respond: CarlB
You xboys seems to always see that’s PS3 failures equals M$ or Nintendo’s success but are so blind to see the greater negative mass effect problems like these can cause to the over all situation.
If you are good judges of character and given their history, you should know by now that Microsft & Nintendo will NEVER EVER carry the great responsibility that is on the shoulders of the PlayStation brand. Never!
With their losses on the Gamecube its understandable for Nintendo to release a “cheap-play-safe” Wii.
But for a billion dollar giant like M$ which is 10 times bigger than Sony heck they can even come up with security much tighter than the PS3.
They don’t have the money?
They don’t have the technology?
They don’t have the manpower?
or
they don’t have the will to do it because that’s how they do their old school business!
no anti-virus if there is no virus
no millions of installed base if there is no piracy
where have PC gaming gone under Microsoft’s leadership? down the drain!
Typical American corporation.
In Japan many doctors and patients have found the cure for cancer while here in America it always advertized that the cure is just around the corner.
When Japanese rule the video game industry in the US there was no fanboyism like what you see today. There was honor & respect between them. No one cared about sales figures on a weekly basis. But when Microsoft entered the arena all hell broke lose!
Now, M$ talents are leaving this damned corporation one after the other.
Microsoft Xbox 360 is just a free loading, blood sucking POS console riding on the legacy the PlayStation brand has built since 1995.
Make mine Google, Sony, Samsung & Apple.
I hope M$ becomes Xtinct very, very soon.
April 28th, 2011
@gunstar,
“guess who’s the first to respond: CarlB”
Because I’m a PS3 only gamer at this time and I do not see M$ having exclusive future rights to download only consoles.
Saying download only console iterations will not happen in the future because of this and similar incidents is ridiculous. It’s like arguing there would be no more internet connected consoles in the future because of this. I don’t think physical copy will ever go away completely, but I do believe download only options will have their markets in the future, regardless of Sony’s missteps w/PSN now. If anything, it is a lesson to make more secure consoles for the future.
April 28th, 2011
” According to journalistic chatter on Twitter, reports are starting to surface of $10 charges appearing against credit cards attached to PlayStation Network accounts. While unconfirmed at this time, the rumours could at least force Sony to make a firm statement as to whether card data was stolen in the breach.”
LOL. It’s probably people that forgot to cancel their Qriocity membership that auto renews.
Happened to me once…woops..lol
April 28th, 2011
I think more than anything this acts as a decent wake up call for many.
April 28th, 2011
@ gunstar
I remember the fanboy rant’s when I was in School.almost 30 years ago
Spectrum ZX80 vs C46 vs Acorn Electron
Amiga A500 vs Atari Falcon vs BBC Model B
Mastersystem vs NES vs Atari 2600
SNES vs Megadrive/Genesis vs 3DO
then we had Sony enter and it was Ps1 Vs Atari Jaguar & Sega Saturn Vs CD32 Vs Gamecube . . etc etc.
fanboys have been around way before Sony ever made a gaming system and they will always be around.
You have this fantasy that Sony created the whole gaming console phenomenon, when the reality is they are just another player.
we’ve seen the biggest players all fall, (well those of us that are old enough) Sony could do the same if they don’t get it right.
M$ has stepped in and given gamers one of the best gaming platforms ever made on it’s second gaming system.
it’s cheaper and easier to use, than the PS3, with a first class online multiplayer interface, that even Sony has yet to match.
If M$ continues to improve, there next system will be something that Sony and Nintendo will need to watch out for.
Just because Sony has been around longer than M$ in this particular field, does not mean they will always be No 1
and I am one of those who thinks DD will replace physical media, I see it as an unavoidable consequence of the gaming industries desire to eliminate the second hand games market.
if we do get a disk with next gen, I will pretty much guarantee all games will need to be registered online to play, so either way an internet connection will be a necessity

Damn Godless is such a 360 fanboy.
April 28th, 2011
Godless
Try reading my predictions for next gen next time…long storu short….ms has the biggest hill to climb next gen and heres why :
First party exclusives …this is ms biggest weakness….live is marginally better han psn in certain aspects….once cross game chat comes to psn….its over for live….period….
Nintendo has proven yu can get by with minimal 3 rd party support pretty much every generation as long as your first party titles set the benchmarks and nintendo has first party offerings in spades, zelda, mario, metrois, smash bros, mario kart….nintendo need only garner a bit more 3 rd party support and bam…success…nintendos uphill battle is they need an online service like that of psn/ live…
Sony is in the best position for next gen because they already have the psn service….it will be improved on by next gen….they got the 3 rd party support and arguably the best first party studios and games lineup in the industry, so all sony focusro do is focus on bringing out its games and being competitive on price…
Ms has pretty much zero first party support ( bungie is gone) and have not built up any first party studios so how will they compete and differentiate itself from the next gen competition ….no godless, ms is in the worst position of the three….

or they could just go with this [http://goo.gl/lVOcE] and not lose 2/3 of the market.
DD-only market is the future but as evidence shows, it’s not going to be anything soon. 3 new devices have been annouced/released and they all use physical media – 3DS, NGP and Wii 2. It’ll be interesting if Wii 2 uses bluray.

I agree 100% that Sony has better exclusives line up.
BUT If M$ makes a next gen console that plays 3rd party games that look and play better than the PS4, then the exclusives don’t mean a thing.
The odds are the next Xbox, will pretty much be a consolified gaming PC platform, it will be easy for the Devs like last time, and with the huge advances in CPU graphics card performance, Sony will need to do more than just stick a triple cell system together to compete with it.
M$ started this gen with a total world wide sales of 24 million consoles, PS3 ad already sold more than 200 million consoles and were the dominant force.
NOT ANY MORE they’re not. both Nintendo and M$ are right up there with them.
I also think M$ will launch it’s next gen much sooner than the 2014 prediction, mainly because, with full backward compatibility, and improved game performance on this gens games, it will put the PS3 back as the lowest performer, and it may even be possible (for a while) for games or at least some games to be duel platform for the 360 and its replacement.
I don’t think M$ has any less chance than the others, and my personal feeling is that despite the Wii doing very well, it is Nintendo that are is in the worst place as we enter the next gen.

“BUT If M$ makes a next gen console that plays 3rd party games that look and play better than the PS4, then the exclusives don’t mean a thing”
Exclusives drives sales, multiplatform game does not. Look at the Wii and PS3, both cameout a year later than the 360 and they have both past the 360 in sales.
Also, MS is relying to much on Kinect which could mean the next 360 will be a updated and revised version of Kinect..and if they stick with DVD games will not look better on the next MS console.
MS started this gen with a year lead with NO COMPETITINON and a much better lineup and price tag than PS3…what has kept MS in second place this gen is the US market if Sony can take over the US market it will be over for MS.
Also, Sony is the only company that is willing to take a hit (loss) and make risky move with state of the art & cutting edge technology…
Sony’s network is on par with XBL so MS doesn’t really have an advantage in that department anymore… I mean just look at the facts, Sony beat MS in cloud saving, game sharing, crossplatform play and MMO capabilities.
After all is said and done, it all comes down to IPs and exclusives.
Nintendo has great IP for casual games, hardcore gamers and oldschool gamers with games like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Advance Wars, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, etc.
Sony has the most impressive & innovative library for every type of gamer which they’ve built over the years with games such as Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Uncharted, Killzone, Ratchet and Clank, Syphon Filter, Resistance, Infamous, Motorstorm, God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Gateway, MLB and Singstar…Sony also have the support of 3rd-party publisher with games like Yakuza, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, etc
Microsoft has very few popular exclusive and most of them are at risk of overexposure, this include Halo, Forza, Fable. Other popular exclusive are not owned by MS and will probably be multiplatform games next gen, this includes L4D, Gears of War, Alan Wake & Splinter Cell.
what will MS offer that will make you want their console over what Sony/Nintendo will offer?

OT:
Portal 2 proved that Valve can really push the PS3 when they have to. Makes me looks forward to a console version of Half life 3 and a PS3 version of L4D3.

Godless
In no way shape or form will ms multi plats look better enough on ms than on sony system..its just not viable due to dual development schedules….and by releasing first, ms will give up that graphical advantage….just like this gen…difference is now, multi platform developers have experience with ps3 development….so an even more powerful cell processor coupled with more ram and a beefier gpu…seems to me development is gonna be easier, so that cancels that out….
Multiplats cancel each other out….
Its the exclusives from each platform’s respective first party studios that have always made the difference as evident by your own posts….
Snes vs genesis ( gaming at its greatest)
sonic vs mario
Okay only time for one example but you get me….its the exclusive games that make and define the console….ms with halo, forza and I would like to say gears but that is epic’s baby and could turn up multi platform at any moment…
I’m telling you from as an unbiased view as possible….just look at the facts:
Multiplatform
Both sony and ms have this covered…an exclusive on each here and there wont be that big a difference …nintendo needs work here..but multiplatform developers have proven this gen, more consoles choices equals more $$ meaning all nintendo needs to do is keep up to tech specs…developers always want more chances to make $$ as evident by timed exclusives or the complete lack of multi plat exclusives…
Online service
Both ms and sony have this covered as well, so no worries here…except for nintendo…if they I intend to compete, they have to bri g this hard and fast
Exclusives
Nintendo has this in spades….sony has this in royal flushes…..ms is severely lacking here….and this is more important than tthe above topics as nintendo has proven you can have a lack of online service and lack of 3rd party support so long as you got the best exclusives…..ms don’t have any genre defining, or benchmark setting exclusives…
April 28th, 2011
I don’t see M$ exclusives at being any more risk of over exposure than the PS3 ones.
I think you put way to much weight on exclusives, I for one, couldn’t give a toss whether a game is exclusive or not, I wouldn’t buy it just because it was an exclusive if there was a better 3rd part game in the same genera available.
I always wait for the prices to drop, but there are a few new shooters I want to get
Crysis 2
Bulletstorm
Deadspace 2
Portal 2
then Killzone 3
in that order
Now the odds are I’ll only get round to getting the first 2 before, battlefield 3 and gears 3 resistance 3 dirt 3, UC3 forza 4 come along and they will be added to the list.
There are “ALWAYS” plenty of top quality 3rd party games to keep any gamer busy, the exclusives don’t really drive which console you would get.
I would say the main factors are the games available & how well it plays them, and the cost. exclusives just don’t swing it enough to be a main factor. not when they all have exclusives that are worth having
on another note
I just got the Power A pro elite joypad for the PS3, I’m sick to shit of the other one.
Playing split second last night was the last straw. At one point I almost sat the dammed thing on the ground to stamp on it, but just managed to stop myself.
If the PS4 doesn’t change the shape of the f-in controller I will not be buying one.
I know the Pro elite has mixed reviews, but the standard controller is just all fucking wrong, so it has to be better
April 28th, 2011
Okay godless lets try this
Console A
Battlefield 6
Crysis 4
Killzone 5
Resistance 4
Console B
Battlefield 6
Crysis 4
Halo 20
A very simple comparison but most people, will go to the console that has more gaming choices….that goes to sony….they offer gamers exactly what they want…a mass selection of games….if all consoles get the same multiplats it will boil down to which has the more exclusives…..the evidence supports this, how else was sony able to surpass ms in total unit sales…..through its exclusives offerings….the proof is in the puddi.g
April 28th, 2011
@ godless
Controller preference is subjective….the ps3 controller is just fine for my hands…to me the 360 controller feels like a toy, how would I know? Dcuniverse online on pc…a controller is a must and my bro gave me his extra 360 controller so I have experiences it..its comfy but feels like a toy to me..
April 28th, 2011
“I think you put way to much weight on exclusives”
and I think you put way to much weight on 3rd party games but I guess that’s expected from a blinded fanboy who would dismiss “exclusives” (which ultimately is what defines a console) over “multiplatform” games.
You said you would get Crysis 2, Bulletstorm, Deadspace 2, Portal 2, then Killzone 3…well guess what? on 360 you don’t get that last option (or Dead Space Extraction and Portal for PC/MAC)
Multiplatform games have no waight in console war because you can get them on either platform…hello it’s common sense, how hard is for you to grasp that? Why keep trying so hard to defend MS over multipaltform games?
For example: from January to May we have had these exclusive and MP games (most popular ones):
-DCUO
-Dead Space 2
-LittleBigPlanet 2
-Bulletstorm
-Killzone 3
-Crysis 2
-MLB 11 The Show
-MLB 2K11
-MK
-Portal 2
-Socom 4
-Motorstorm Apocalypse
-LA Noire
PS3 gamers have 13 options to choose from while xbots only have 7…so as a gamer buying a gaming console, whould chose the one that just going to give 7 options or the one that’s going to give me twice as much? It’s common Godless, MS will need to step up their games in terms of content if they want to ramain relevant.
and when you have nothing left to bring up to the table to defend MS (running out of steam just like the 360?) you always start whining about the controllers. Guess what? PS3 controller has the best shape and it’s one of the reason why it has not change in 3 generations.
April 28th, 2011
@ godless (roca thanks for the example, much better than mine)
“PS3 gamers have 13 options to choose from while xbots only have 7…so as a gamer buying a gaming console, whould chose the one that just going to give 7 options or the one that’s going to give me twice as much? It’s common Godless, ”
The above example godless should end the exclusives topic…
“MS will need to step up their games in terms of content if they want to ramain relevant.”
And we want them too..godless I think you have the wrong assumption about us ps3 fanboys…I’m assuming you think we absolutely hate the 360…. its a far cry me, if it wasn’t for ms kickinf sony in the bals this gen, wed still have a $600 system, and lack of exclusives and a sub par psn…thanks to that swift kick though, sony brought out its hammer, and beat the shit out of the 360 through psn+ and exclusive after exclusives …ps3 outselling the 360 is proof that exclusives reallybdo matter….
Again I don’t hate on ms to the point I want them gone, just enough to not want them leading our industry….or any other industry lol
April 28th, 2011
Allright. So yes this is my first post. It does suck that the PSN network is down, I do enjoy my PS3 and just happen to play BlackOps on it and not my 360 even though it is latent with cheaters, but oh well.
I have read through all your guys’ posts and both networks are vulnerable as are any networks period (I do this for a living). Seriously though, WTF is with the Xboys man? That is lame. What do you call fans of PS3? Pboys? LOL.
@jojo
You are lame man and I think you should quit posting. You have two first names. We get it. You hate M$. In your own words, STFU already.
Thanks.
P.S.
@Mike
Pretty good article man. Dont let ‘em give you crap.
April 28th, 2011
I would buy the console that can play the games I want better, not the one with more games.
April 28th, 2011
Guys.
You keep calling me a blind fanboy.
I didn’t own either console until 1.5 years after the PS3 was launched
The Xbox had an appalling first 2 years and was shrouded in doubt about reliability, and the PS3 was totally under achieving in every department for the 1st year and a half
I choose the Xbox, after looking at all the facts, I think MS had just released there falcon chipset and the PROD thing was over, the reviews for the games at that time were almost always in favour of the 360.
I had no allegiance to either , in fact I have a PS1, but didn’t have an Xbox, so if anything I was Pro Sony
So I got my 360. and 1.5 years later as the reviews kind of evened out with some of the new games playing better on the PS3 I bought a PS3 as well.
Problem is the PS3 I have always felt is playing catch up to the Xbox, the online stuff on Xbox (for me) has always been so much easier to deal with.
in fact part of my reason for getting the PS3 was because there was almost no online cheating, and I liked the idea of that. but the reality was the PSN was still clumsy and my buddies had all given up on there PS3 as gaming systems so I just stuck with the 360 for battlefield and the likes.
No bias, just the way it is
April 28th, 2011
Godless
Your missing the point, sony has the games that you want that play better AND exclusives is what we are trying to get at…sigh I give up on this topic as your missing the point entirely if given the choice..
As for the rest of your post, cool, glad that decision has worked out for you, we all have our reasons for picking a console, mine was easily made by microsoft charging me for online play and the exact lack of quality exclusives aside from gears, fable….I’m not a fan if halo…so two franchiees wasn’t enough for me to pick it up along with the rrod fiasco…
Then the ps3 released its exclusives like heavenly sword, warhawk etc….it blew me away and sold me to one
April 28th, 2011
Here are the games you want:
-Crysis 2: differences not even noticeable and not enought to claim on is superior than the other one.
-Bulletstorm: better on 360 but again, difference is not noticeable.
-Deadspace 2: better on PS3, difference not noticeable as well but You do a FULL GAME and more content.
-Portal 2 – noticeable better on PS3, with more content 2 extra version (PC/MAC), crossplatform gameplay and cloud saving between PC/MAC & PS3
-then Killzone 3 – Only on PS3.
Either way, when buying a console you will NEVER know what games are going to be available for it so you just have ASSUMED all multiplatform games are going to be available on BOTH and then look at the exclusive to make your choice.
April 28th, 2011
If you look at past generation consoles sucess are mainly driven buy their exclsuives.
PS1 vs N64 vs Dreamcast
PS1 was the underdog but what made it a so popular? its massive amount of exclusive. I had a N64 first and I liked it alot but once I started playing games on PS1 like Metal Gear, FF7, Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, Musashi, Syphon Filter, Silent Hill, there was no going back. Dreamcast had some cool exclusives but not enough to choose it over a PS1..
PS2 vs GameCube vs Xbox
I personally liked the Gamecube better because the hardware was cooler, it loaded games faster and it was great for multiplayer with its 4 controller ports. All my multiplayer game I got it on Gamecube. but the PS2 was a beast because of the exclusives. Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, Persona, FF10, FF12, God of War, Tekken, thousands of others. Xbots had some great exclusives but again, not enough to get a Xbox over a PS2.
PS3 vs 360 vs Wii
Early on 360 had more 3rd party exclusives because it was easier to program for and the install base was bigger. But the Wii took the lead with its “exclusives” games and gimmick (motion). Every single Nintendo exclusive has sold well..that shows just how important the exclusives has been driving Nintendo’s hardware. since 2008 (when the 360 has a ~9M lead) the PS3 has rapidly catch up and past the 360 in sales all because of its impressive amount of exclusive year after year.

“The Xbox had an appalling first 2 years and was shrouded in doubt about reliability”
And you still got a 3shitty. That makes you a blind fanboy.
April 28th, 2011
today is 4/28/11
My son was playing call of duty on Xbox live.. as of 10 am this morning his acount was hacked. My CC was charged 270.00+ dollars. apparently the hacker got a gold family acount so he could transfer microsoft points he bought with my card. The Xbox rep was very nice but did say this is a problem in Call of duty black ops. We have all three systems in this house so far though only system that has touched my visa so is xbox.
(10 days to get my refund WTF?)
also the xbox has had the red ring of death 2 times in 3 years. So quit bashing sony only xbox fanboys both these systems security is a pile of POOP
Anyway my CC information will NEVER be entered again on any system.
