Video games make you fat! Seriously!
Hey you, put that controller down this instant or you’ll imminently have a desire for lots of greasy, fat-laden food. You obese pig.
There have been various studies over the years which have linked video games to obesity. Hell, there have been studies linking video games to everything bad, so that’s no big surprise. But this latest one, as reported by Forbes, is rather unusual in its findings.
This latest research appears to go further than any has before. Rather than just linking video games to obesity because it’s a sedentary activity, those crazy Danes are suggesting that playing video games can actually increase your appetite and therefore make you eat more food than you actually need to. And the result of doing this over an extended period of time: weight gain.
The study involved 22 “healthy, normal weight male adolescents” in Denmark who all played FIFA 11 on the Xbox 360 in a sitting position for an hour at a time. The findings being the following:
A single session of video game play in healthy male adolescents is associated with an increased food intake, regardless of appetite sensations. The endpoints were spontaneous food intake, energy expenditure, stress markers, appetite sensations, and profiles of appetite-related hormones.
In other words playing for just one hour makes you get the munchies. Apparently. How or why would that be the case, though? It’s not my own personal experience, I have to say. I find I eat less and skip meals when I’m deeply engrossed in playing a game, and even when I’m just partaking in a normal session I don’t eat any more than usual. In fact, I’m more likely to eat crap food when I’m watching a movie.
This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Certainly video games can increase the risk of obesity because they’re generally – with the exception of rhythm-action and motion-control games – a sedentary activity. But I don’t believe gamers are generally fatter than the rest of the population, and I don’t believe an hour-long gaming session leads to anyone gorging themselves immediately afterwards.

Like you Dave, I find, I tend not to eat, and even forget to drink, often make 3 or 4 cups of tea, and don’t get round to drinking any of them.
That combined with the higher state of activity and concentration when gaming compared to something like watching TV I would think is a recipe to loose weight.
I think these guys should try and back up there claims with some statistical proof that gamers are more overweight than non gamers.
I can see if kids are in playing games all day and not outside playing then it could be an issue, but most parents would not let this happen.
As adults, we play games when we’d normally be on our asses relaxing anyway, so I personally think the claims at hot air out their collective ass .

Well, i get what this article is saying.
When i watch a movie, i need to munch on something. Its not hunger, but the taste and texture of a food i want. Plus, it makes watching the movie more enjoyable.
Gaming is different. My mind isnt on food when im focused on my game. That simple.
Plus, the thought of my controller getting dirty or greasy is a turn off.
Ive been playing video games almost all my life, and im not fat. Ive been the thinnest in my family even. But im not a stick.
I think we are just living in a lazy generation

Kinect is shit for hardcore gamers granted, but it’s great if you have kids. It is the first system to really try to pull together several technologies and make them work together as a gaming interface. In 10 years the evolution of this system will be used in hardcore gaming in ways we can only just imagine just now, but it will happen.
I really look forward to what Sony, MS and to a lesser degree Nintendo will do in the next gen.

What I said it was “It’s not comfortable after a while playing”, and I’ve said that from PS1 days, I even have a hilarious monstrosity of a home build joystick that was made back in the PS1 days to play shoot’em’ups because the controller was to uncomfortable for extended play on games like xevios , galaxians, bubble bobble etc (oldschool type games).
I grew up with Joysticks, not joypads.joy pads are probably one of the main reasons I was a PC gamer, and didn’t get a PS2 or xbox
As for GOW. I said playing Dante was more Cathartic. .that does not mean it is better.

My godless account was started in December, I have almost got back to my old trophy score, but with different games, in the last 5 months, with more gaming on the xbox than on the PS3. When I get time and have no better games to play, I will finish some of the PS3 games I want to finish.
when I get time, I usually have a total of around 50% of trophies/achievements, for now I’m way of that on both PS3 & 360. .just lack of time and too many games

I started my achievements back when the 360 was 1st released and my trophy count when they came out. I used to play both consoles equally, but the PS3 has more exclusives with better scores on offer, especially in the last 3 years. Deny it, I know you will. I still play my 360 sometimes in the morning, but only when the Mrs is getting ready for work.
Btw Crysis 2 has been said to run better on the PS3, only IGNorant said otherwise. Look at lens of truth, there’s one pic in particular where the 360 version looks worse off.
As for saying we don’t like Kinect because we have no family, LMFAO! What a fucking retard! We don’t like the Kinect, because ever since it was release the 360 has very clearly lost the amount of great exclusives the were releasing! Its a fucking joke. Also I have enough friends and family, I don’t need to play my games with them to have fun, I do what any normal guy should do and that is go out up the town when I get a weekend off.

Let me explain the, seeing as you’re struggling here. You said GOW3 is not as good as the full game of Dantes, even though the only thing you played of GOW was an unfinished, unpolished demo. The demo was only meant to show off the combat not the variety of gameplay. You said ‘all GOW is, is a hack’n slash, nothing more while Dante’s has platforming and puzzles’. You got all that from a 5 minute demo but compared it to a complete, final product game.

I played the game on hard so I had to go through each challenge about 10 times before I was able to complete it – I got the trophy for completing the whole labyrinth with out dying on hard

The original was not a bad game at all but as ppl always say – you’re as good as your last game.
For example Socom was a great game (the first 3) but the last two has not been all that great. So Socom is not considered all that great anymore.
Same with Fable 3, Final Fantasy, the Sonic games, and a few others. I’m not being biased here, as I said the same thing for two of my favorite franchise – Socom and FF

Likewise RPGs Lost odyssey and blue Dragon, while neither is ground breaking, if you’re a fan of this type of game then they’re solid enough games.
Alan wake is one of the better game I’ve played for a while far from being shit.
Viva pinata, one of the most unique games I’ve ever seen, IMO The best kids game ever, on any platform, and a relaxing chill out type game for adults

I based my opinion on popularity and metacritic score. You can always enjoy playing a shitty game but that doesn’t make it a criticall great game.
Metascore:
*Fable 3 = 80(360), 76 (PC) – avg = 78
*Crackdown 2 = 70
*Lost Odyssey = 76
*Blue Dragon = 79
as for Alan Wake, the game is average at best (like I said) with ‘decent’ metascore but poor ‘user review’ and sales (popularity) – in other words not many ppl enjoy it

Never played Fable 3 but Fable 2 bored me after a few hours, it was far too simple for an rpg.
Never played Crackdown, had it pre ordered but cancelled after reviews were released.
I liked Lost Odyssey for a while but after 2 discs I did get fed up with the campyness of it all.
Never played Blue Dragon, heard good things though.
I wouldn’t say a score over 70 means shit, but with games that are mean’t to be AAA exclusives you do expect more. Like I did with Socom, cancelled that as well.
I would have cancelled Alan Wake as well but that sort of game is my favourite sort, it was billed as being like Silent Hill. I was very disapointed, SH aint been great since number 3, Homecoming was the worst one and in my opinion Homecoming outdone Alan Wake on atmosphere, scares and graphics alone. Maybe not story, but I did like the twist at the end of HC with his little bro, even though it was a tad predictable.

And before you go off on your ‘oldschool you’re a fanboy’ routine, I never said Alan Wake is shit, it weren’t shit, it was just capable of being so much more. Instead it was a very linear, very repetative game with a great story lol.

I wouldn’t say Alan wake was any more linear than any advance through the levels killing and finding what you need to progress type game. Yes it could have been better, but that can be said of most games.
I enjoyed it way more than I though I would, after hearing all the negative stuff on it.
Boss baddies (if they could be called that) were the big let down, would have been better to get some creepier stuff in there, even possessed wild animals or ghosts or something. . anything, . . machinery just aint that scary
I will play through it again to try and get some of the achievements, it’s worth a second play through.

And I agree all games could be better(except Half Life 2 and Uncharted 2) but Alan Wake was seriously lacking, it was like Assassins Creed 1, high potential but ruined by repetition. Even all the bad guy(shadow things) were similar. The whole game comprised of ‘find flashlight, find gun, follow path to next yellow blip, flash and shoot, yellow blip, end of chapter, new chapter and have lost flashlight and gun …again, rinse and repeat’
The game could have been great but was let down by repetition and hype. Silent Hill for me is still the survival horror king, the atmospehere in those games is second to none. Sure Homecoming was one of the worst ones(except The Room) but it managed to maintain a lot of the atmosphere from the PS2 days.
Alan Wake had some very good atmosphere moments when you get chased by the shadowy tornado-y thingy or when the wind and dust pick up, but they are the only 2 atmosphere hikes in the game, there was no chilling moments like SH, like when you see those 2 girls hanging in number 3 or when you 1st meet the Pyramid Head in 2 or even the ghost babies in the 1st, back in the PS1 days.
I aint sold my Alan Wake, I kept it because even though the game was mediocre I do have high hopes for the series. I even still have Assassins Creed 1 but don’t like it very much.

Over night training pal. Its fun enough though so it goes quick. No idea why its 14hours though, most the night will be breaks lmao. Got my phone fully charged full the dull moments :p

Alan Wake on PS3 would had sold like 3 millions. Xbox is for FPS lovers i luv fps but my favorite genre is any third person no rpg please.
