Free World of Warcraft to nab addicts
Blizzard certainly knows how to tempt people into giving World of Warcraft a shot. In a similar way to how your local drug dealer may operate.
There’s a reason World of Warcraft is often referred to as World of Warcrack. Because in the wrong hands it can be as addictive as Class A drugs. If you easily get addicted to things, be it video games or anything else, then you’re probably best off avoiding that thing in the first place. Which is why you may want to ignore Blizzard’s latest attempt to get you hooked on World of Warcraft.
As first reported by BBC News, World of Warcraft is now free to play until your character reaches level 20. And this applies to an unlimited number of characters, meaning you could, if so desired, keep playing the game forever, just with really weak characters. As well as the level 20 bar, people playing the game for free will not be able to join guilds or hold more than 10 gold coins.
It’s estimated that this system will give new players somewhere between 10- and 15-hours of playing time before their character reaches level 20. At which point they’ll have to choose whether to start all over again or to start paying the monthly subscription fee. And therein lies the reason Blizzard is supposedly being so generous.
Even more sneaky than this is Blizzard’s offer to WoW veterans to invite a friend to play. As detailed by BlizzPlanet, a special keycode is being offered which gives veterans the chance to gift a friend with a full copy of the game and a free 30-day trial. Once the 30 days expires the new player is then prompted to start paying the subscription fee.
I’m not saying any of this wrong in any way, but the only way Blizzard has managed to persuade more than 11 million people to pay a monthly subscription fee is by creating one of the most addictive games of all time. So if you’re that way inclined don’t even be tempted by the lure of these free offers.

LOL
I played an online Space strategy game called O’game for around 5 years, it was dubbed O’crack. Very difficult to getaway from it, to the point where you almost organised your life around it. Getting up in the middle of the night to fleetsave or join in with attacks etc..
I’m against the whole pay to play thing, so out of
principle I won’t be doing it.
Got to hand it to Blizzard though, it’s a great money maker, I just hope other online games don’t go down this route

World of Warcrack indeed.
I haven’t played it 2 years and I often find myself wanting to play again.

Never played WoW because I’m not a fan of pay-to-play. I might finally check it out now.
I’d be ok for playing for 10-15 hours and calling it quits.

uhh, what about Call of Crack? Its the most played console game. Not to mention, most purchased.
Atleast when people play WoW, they know its a fantasy game. Dumb kids who CoD all the time get addicted and become idiots +badly behaved.
