Gears of War 3 leaked nearly three months ahead of release
The biggest news to come out over the weekend was around the leak of a high profile Xbox 360 game several months ahead of its release. It’s rare to see a major game like Gears of War 3 leaked so early.
Gears of War 3 is Microsoft’s big holiday title for the Xbox 360 as the publisher has been saving the game since last year. It appears that a full build of the game has been leaked across bittorrent sites nearly three months prior to its official September release date.
Even though the leaked version is not the final built, the game has the full single player campaign and all of the multiplayer modes intact. Users have been releasing videos of the single player campaign on YouTube.
Obviously this is a serious security breach on Epic or Microsoft’s part as it could have been done internally. Several weeks ago, Epic Games did admit that its site was hacked and user information was stolen. It is not clear as to how a full build of a game that hasn’t even gone gold was able to hit the net.
Microsoft issued a statement indicating that the publisher is working with a security team and law enforcement to get to the bottom of the matter.
We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation.
Microsoft added that the leaked build is not the final version and does not completely represent what could be offered when the game launches Sept. 20.
I doubt that this leak will seriously impact Gears of War 3 sales, but it is still quite shocking that a developer build was leaked publically. Stay tuned for more details around the matter.

I don’t think it was leaked with the intent to build hype or anything positive. Likely disgruntled employee.
I’m sure they know just what workstation it was removed from too.
If it was taken during the hack, Epic stands to lose nothing from admitting that. They gain sympathy, and quite frankly, I think people are getting sick and tired hearing about hacking.

I reckon this will outsell and gain a higher critical review then the ps3 exclusives this year.

I don’t remeber Portal 2 ever being announced as a 360 exclusive.
As for Bioshock, I think the only reason that was a 360 exclusive was because the PS3 wasn’t really released yet when it came out, and it was later released on PS3 anyway. That’s the same thing that happened with Saint’s Row.

That is no excuse. Console SDKs are released way before it comes out. I know the ps3 was a steep learning curve. That may be why. I still have to play bioshocks. I lost my saves and have to start over.

I believe Bioshock was release in ’07… a year after the PS3 was already in store shelves. Bioshock was the reason why ’07 was one of the year of the 360 (content wise). 2008 and beyond has been PS3 years.

before 2009 / 2010 you’d be ard pushed to find a multiplat that would run better on the PS3, and in most cases the 360 was a marked improvement.
2010 the PS3 started to match the 360 on the multiplatform games, and even beat it in a few, that combined with the few exclusives I wanted is why I got one, So i’d be able to buy any game on the platform that played it best.

31 ps3 titles
36 xbox 360 titles
9 are exclusive to the ps3 and 10 are xbox exclusives.
Seems a small amount considering how much everyone goes on about exclusives.
And roc a you really don’t think gears will get a meatscore higher than 92 (highest ps3 exclusive so far this year) both gears 1 & 2 managed it, the only ps3 exclusive challenge that I can see is uc3 should be an interesting clash.

I believe Gears has a higher chance percentage of not wow’ing the press as much as they did in ’06 and ’08 based on its E3 performance vs Uncharted 3′s.
ICO Collection and Journey should be getting a metascore in the 90s as well.
PS3 users will get about 7 games Uncharted 3, Twisted Metal, Resistance 3, Ratchet & Clank, ICO Collection, Journey, GOW Origins – all offering a totally difference experience.

Hey, I won’t deny that I did enjoy playing Uncharted. It was an impressive game, especially seeing that submarine for the first time. Not many games have given me a “wow” moment like that. I only had 2 problems with it. #1 The fact that I got hit with a bug that didn’t let me get trophies on my playthrough #2 The bullet thing.
My short time playing the uncharted 3 demo was pretty fun too, but I was still a bit unhappy with the lack of proper damage. As I said before, being able to sneak up on a guy and unload my AK47 into his back only for him to turn around and kill me REALLY sucked.

Yeah Uncharted is built with a larger health meter but that doesn’t take away much from the game.
I really hated how in Gears the enemies don’t react when you shoot them or when the bullet makes contect with their body. You unload a whole clip on them and they keep walking/running like your shooting butterflies.
In Uncharted the enemies react to your shots depending on where you hit them

It’s not that the health meter is bigger, it’s that it was a seemingly random amount of shots required to bring down each enemy.
You shoot 10 bullets into 1 guy to bring him down only for it to take 15 shots for the next identical guy.

I really hate that shit… Just about anyone would go down in 6 or less shots from an AK47. Unloading a full clip into someone and they don’t go down is just bad. I’ve seen alot of people complain about this in the Uncharted series. They call it “bullet sponge” and I can see why.

Socom is a solid 3rd person shooter, gameplay & content wise the game is great but the story/plot/characters is what kept the game away from being greatness.

I’m going to have to say you’re wrong. It’s because you do not play the game or play the game seriously, but those equations are accurate. Most people cannot get past the fact that it’s Pokemon, and they feel it’s beneath them. But I can assure you, these calculations are correct. Bulbapedia does not just make shit up Godless.
I can give you another (simplified) example about Pokemon shinyness. There is a 1 in 8,192 chance to find a pokemon differing from it’s natural colours. You can increase your chances of finding a shiny by using the Masuda method (named after the Japanese guy who created it).
Pokemon EV and IV training is also fairly complex, but once you get the hang of it, it really becomes second nature. But what people don’t understand is that, Pokemon is full of hidden values, hidden equations and die rolls. It’s nothing like the anime (which is pretty much bollocks: how the fuck can a Pikachu shock an Onix? It’s impossible in the game because of certain established mechanics).
It’s fair to say you don’t like the game, so you never play it, therefore you do not understand it. But it is unfair to say Pokemon does not have these mechanics, because by you own admission, you don’t play these games.

It’s not that I don’t like the game, Just that I’ve never bothered with it. My son is a fanatic, and is constantly telling me stuff about various Pokemon and there evolution. he bought Pokemon white, and I then got him the guide for it to help him pick up on the finer details of it.
I still think the equation is way over the top for anything I’ve seen in this game.
it’s like they have employed an overly complex algorithm to pick a random number between a given range and see if you get that random number.
my main reason for not liking Pokemon, is that “apparently” you can’t quit from certain fights, this always seems to happen when it’s light out & bedtime (very frustrating)you’ll understand once you’re a parent

Roca nice try with the list from 2008, but overall the number of +80 scored titles are 46 xbox 48 ps3.
2007 – 31 to 41 for xbox
2008 – 48 to 46 for PS3
2009 – 57 to 54 for PS3
2010 – 63 to 61 for PS3
not much difference and a fairly strong argument that investing large amounts of money in exclusive titles doesn’t guarantee quality, let alone sales, where the 360 is miles ahead of the PS3 – 50 titles selling more than 2 Million for a total of 206 million(I don’t count the 10 Million of Kinect Adventures as it was bundled) vs 40 titles for a total of 151 million with 14 Xbox exclusives and 11 PS3 exclusives.

Exclusives are not the only reason to choose a console.
the point Rimmer is making is that if you choose to have just one console, you get a good line up of games either way.
PS3 exclusives do not make up a large enough percentage of the best games to be a huge factor in deciding which console to go for.
and from Rimmers figures it is clear that the xbox has as many high rating exclusives as the PS3, as the multiplats will in effect cancel each other out.

If you can’t afford both consoles exclusives do matter. I’m looking through my game collection right now and can’t imagine not having Uncharted, Infamous, LBP, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, Buzz and Killzone.
All those games, if I had gone for a 360, would be replaced by Halo. That’s it.

I understand that, I have never dismiss the fact that there are a bunch of quality multiplatform games out there for both consoles.
But like I said before, on PS3 you get all those same multiplat games (noticed I said they cancel each other out) plus you get a shit lead of exclusives, most which set blur the line between gaming/movie and the bar in graphics, innovation, features…and also are nominated for numerious E3 and GOTY awards.
how did Rimmer beat me when he’s including XBL games (and PC/360 games) or bring the numbers up? lmao that’s just laughable.
I did listed the listed all the major exclusive with a 80+ score. PS3 had 10 exclusive while the 360 only had 2….now that was in 2008.
In 2009 Sony shit all over the 360.
The 360 only had 3 80+ games – Forza 3, Halo Wars, ODST – notice you guys get the same 3 exclusvie year after year..lmao Rimmer will need a better job to hide this fact.
Mean while the PS3 not only had 8 games with a 80+ score but they also had a GOTY title with Uncharted 2, best graphics, 4 titles with 90+ score and the E3 winner.
And again, Sony managed produce quality titles covering as many genre as possible with like:
-Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
-Killzone 2
-God of War Collection
-MLB 09: The Show
-Demon’s Souls
-Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time
-Infamous
-Buzz! Quiz World

Roca you are missing the point – the PS3 has without a doubt more exclusives – Sony has invested a lot of money in running first party studios after all. What I was getting at is that despite having less exclusives than the PS3 the number of ALL highly rated games are pretty much equal to the PS3 so you won’t ever have a lack of good games to play, regardless of your choice. And from a sheer profit point of view the sales figures clearly show that there is no financial gain for MS to run first party studios if they are earning 25% more money than sony with mostly multiplats. Personally I think that is somewhat short sighted, but for now it clearly works in MS’s favour.

I have just 2 other local mates that own PS3, neither use them and choose to have the 360 as the primary gaming platform.
this is down to the fact that:
-In general the multiplats run better on the 360. though the tide may be turning on this point.
-Once installed games load much faster, when not installed load times are comparable to PS3
-If you have kids there is a better line up of games for them on the 360
it’s cheaper to buy the hardware, console £100 cheaper controllers at £24 rather than £42.
For Kids Kinect =£80. Vs .two lots of move + other bit & camera £125
add to that the fact that there is a really poor selection of kids games for PS3 anyway
this is not as clean cut as you PS3 guys seam to think. Maybe For you it is, but not for everyone.

I didn’t think Godless could dig a deeper hole for himself but he just did…Do you SERIOUSLY want to play the “price” & “performace” game?
Suddenly Godless is not talking about games anymore lmao. That shows how poor the selection of quality exclusive is on 360.
What about Fable, Forza, Gears and Alan Wake? Gears 1 and Fable can be played on PC, Dans has GT5 to replace Forza and he can do just fine without the 5-hour long and the average game that is Alan Wake.
Godless, those 2 friends of yours (probably the only 2 friends you have) are Xbots just like you. In this site alone we’ve had more than 2 Xbots who have abandoned the 360 to game on PS3. CarlB & Harry to name a few.

I have 6 local mates(families) with 360s, two of them also have a PS3.
I have been trying to encourage them to use the PS3 more So that I will have some one I know to play against.
once you are in your 40s have a wife & kids, a job that takes you out the hose for almost 16 hours of the day, lets see how your social live hold together.
I have a hard time just keeping up with my real friends. .6 other families in my life is more than enough for me dude.
now when I ask them when they’re getting a PS3, and they ask why should they get a PS3, it’s pretty hard to find a reason other than it as a few exclusives you might like and it can play blu rays. .Not enough for most to shell out £300

Speaking of Kinect I got a chance to play Child of Eden at my mates and it is stunning. First game ever not to have any lag whatsoever.
funny thing with Kinect. when you watch adults use it it looks awkward a clumsy, but when kids use it is doesn’t, kids don’t seem to mind the lag and when you ask them about it, they just say, “Yeah. .you need to move a little bit before you think you do”. It’s like they just adapt to the interface without regarding it as a flaw, which of course adults do.
Roca I know you can’t admit that the 360 beats the PS3 at anything, but honestly mate, you don’t have a clue what you talking about with regards to kids games. The 360 pisses all over the PS3 end of.

The Viva pinata series and Kameo have been the best games ever for my kids, viva pinata, they have been playing on and off for over 3 years and they still love it and still find new things every time they play it.

You act as if I don’t have little cousins and nephews. Also I have a PS3 at my girl’s place and she lives with her 3 little cousins (4, 6, and 11 years old).
They have a Wii but I see them play LBP, LBP2, Buzz, Singstar, LORT: Argon’s Quest, Tetris HD, Flow, Pixeljunk Eden, Pixeljunk Monsters (on casual mode) and Fat Princes, Home & Free Realms.
Most of this titles allows them to play together as they support 2-4 players on the same screen. LBP alone has over 3 million levels, they never get tired of it.

LMAO – look at your list, most of them are dead franchises that no one play anymore. I dare you to go to LBP, Fat Princes, Tetris HD, Home (and its millions of casual games), Free Reamls, Singstar and Buzz and tell me not many ppl are playing it. They are always full of ppl playing online.
Those kids can even have fun on Singtar watching the millions of goofy videos uploaded by Singstar users.
These games have limitless replayability:
LBP & LBP2 = over 3.5 millions levels
Singstar = millions of songs and user-created videos
Buzz = millions of user-created quizes
Fat Princess = a mini mmo world
Tetirs HD = the fun never ends, now w/offline & online mode
Home = hundreds of casual games and challenges to do

with the exception of LBP. As for 3.5 million levels. .yeah, and that’s part of the problem, because 99.9% of them are just crap, it’s too difficult to find the good ones, and the recommendation on the planet are shite, rarely leading you to a good level.
Like I said before roca, LBP will not last long for most kids, and XBL as way more games than PSN
I think you forget I have both machines and see what PSN has to offer, I download heaps of demos to see if anything good is around
my kid favourite game on the PS3 is mushroom wars, if it drops in price I will get it. for now the PS3 is the weakest platform for kids with both the wii and 360 way ahead.

LBP will not last long? it’s been 3 years alread and millions are still playing it and uploading levels. How many ppl are playing Kameo, Fusion frenzy and all the other dead IPs you listed?

That’s false and you cannot find similar quality experience and limitless replayability on 360.
You said 90% of the game are crap on LBP but if you look at the ratings kids are loving them and even they were crap those 10% are still much more than all the games you listed.
There’s nothing like Fat Princess, LBP, Free Realms, Home, Buzz, Tetris HD, Flow, Pixeljunk Eden, Pixeljunk Monsters & Mushroom Wars (thanks for that one) on 360. Again all these titles are great games and even better for kids since they all offer local co-op fun (execpt Flow).
idk if you knew but in LBP2 alone PS3 covers almost every genre. Arcade shooters, Racing, puzzle, platforming, adventure, bumber cars, etc.
Your kids are not the only ones in the world and by looking at the facts I can tell more ppl are playing the games I listed and they are still being suppported while while your games have been dead, forgotten and discontinued for years.

I’m basing my comments generally around the fact that all my closest buddies have the 360 as their main gaming platform, Kids included. I’m the only one who doesn’t yet have Kinect, and I’m the one who is trying to get the PS3 going, i have even lent out half my games to try and kick start the process.

You list is full of discontinued and dead IPs with very little content a replayability while my list is full of award-winning games with limitless replaybility and millions of content. They are all still full of players online and still being Supported.

You lot can argue which console is mainly for kids all you want but the fact is I’m happy with the PS3 catering mainly for the adult gamers. Let the 360 have it’s kids games, PS3 is for gamers and not casual gamers.
