GoldenEye 007 confirmed to be running 1080 on PS3 only

July 20, 2011

GoldenEye 007 confirmed to be running 1080 on PS3 only Rumors of a GoldenEye 007 remake for the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out earlier this week. Activision has confirmed that the game will indeed be making its way to the consoles.

Recently, some screenshots of the game were leaked across NEOGAF followed by speculation of the game. Earlier today, Activision spilled the beans at a London event for GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. James Steer, Activision producer of the game was on hand to provide some details to VideoGamer.com.

According to Steer, the game is running on a brand new engine that was built from the ground up by the studio Eurocom. The game will feature highly “detailed textures, animations, effects, sound effect, completely new AI built with this engine.”

Steer stated:

I think the Wii was the right place for the GoldenEye game because of the N64 heritage. We also needed to take some time to make sure that that new engine could deliver 60fps, 16 player multiplayer, photo-realistic environments. It takes time to develop technology like that.

In addition to revealing that the game would run at 60fps, the PS3 version will be in 1080p native, while the Xbox 360 version will be 720p native. This is a significant achievement as its difficult to craft a FPS in 60fps and in 1080p.

The publisher did not reveal a firm release date but did indicate this fall as a strong possibility.

Just when everyone is thinking that the PS3 has reached its limit in terms of graphics…then BOOM!
…comes a news such as this!

    1080p @ 60fps, wow!The PS3 indeed is just hitting its stride!

Very interested with how the PS3 version would turn out to be.

  2. phranctoast:

So just like FF13 only this will be gameplay.

    Cool.

  3. Barnabe Jones:

Surprising indeed. Especially considering Activions past hatred of the PS3 and its fans.

Priority treatment from EA and Activision = big win.

  4. me_:

    Don’t expect Killzone 2 graphics at 1080p 60fps.

It’s usually crap looking games that run at high specs.

  5. phranctoast:

Sometimes I prefer the cleaner look of higher resolution to more polygons and lesser resolution. I think the MSAA put into the higher resolution games make the difference.

Check out the GOW collection. It performs and looks better than Bayonetta.

  6. Roca.:

    @me_
    couldn’t agree more.

  7. Godless:

I wonder what the rendering resolution will be.

The only games I’ve seen that really looks 1080 when playing them are the Reach demo and the MGS 4 demo. .

Games like motorstorm Apoc.& wipeout HD may well be 1080 but the textures and geometric detail don’t do the hi res any justice.

In fact Motostorm A looks really dated, especially the vehicles, some of which look like they belong in a PS1 game.

Sure there’s a shit load going on in some of the levels, but if you look around the graphics are pretty lame on the whole.

I think this is proof that the PS3 is almost at it’s limits. if you want fast action and lots of stuff moving around, then the pay-off is low geometric detail and low res textures, it just can’t seam to do both at the same time.
Best level I’ve seen so far on Motorstorm A is the hurricane level, it gives a really good attempt to capture the look, sadly none of the physics though.

same on 360 by the way, before anyone starts shouting fanboy

Roca, regarding Fable 3 which you have been slating in a couple of threads

I was playing Fable 3 most of last nigh, after it had been discussed on here, and it is a stunning looking game, but it suffers poor frame rate in certain areas, but when you look around you can see why, the levels are huge, with a massive draw distance and geometric detail that puts most games to shame, it’s credit to the coders that it performs as well as it does for the most part.

I read the interview with PM on Fable 3, what he said is that the game did not turn out to be all it could have been (not that it was a bad game or worse than either of the other 2).
The game was simple way to big, they had to rip the heart out of the part of the game where you become the king, there just wasn’t enough room on the disk to fit the whole game (YES limitation of DVD I know) but the game is still massive, even with most of the middle part gone, it still stands up as the best Fable so far, and to some the best in that genre for any platform

It looks better(way better), it plays better, it fixes all the issues with the menu system of fable 1 & 2, it adds a proper co-op system. nothing about Fable 3 is a step back. .it is the best of the series so far without question.

Yes it was not all it could have been, but it still one of the best examples of this genre on any system. if it had been complete it would probably have been No 1 in the genre without question.

I say bring on the next gen for both systems

full 1080/3D @ 60FPS and hi res textures with a poly count that does it all justice, and for xbox a media that allows programmers to provide a full version of what they envisaged their game to be.

360 & PS3 are working at there limits. if the hardware was better, the games would be better, without adding any development time, in fact it would probably shorten development time as coders would not need to work so hard to try and make the games work as they should.

  8. Roca.:

    @Godless
Wipeout looks beautifull all around…I know you have issues giving credit to great looking PS3 games (while at the same time praising shitty looking games like Vanquish and Reach) but You never find an article saying something negative against Wipeout.

as for Motorostorm Apocalypse, it’s not the best looking motorstorm games, the previous two look and run better but like you said that’s due all the stuff going on in the races, big explosions and the stages dynamically changing (while having like 18 cars . I don’t believe this is limited by the PS3 but by the engine they’re using. I can tell they didn’t bother improving it. PS1 graphics? lmao are you crazy, the game still looks great the only issue is the rendering frame rate drops here and there (for like a second) and it barely affects the overall experience.

Uncharted, Infamous 2, Killzone & LBP – all show you can have more going on in the game while improving the graphics and the engine.

Fable looks impressive to you? LOL everything look like it was made out of clay (similar to brutal legend and Overloard). you’re definitely blind.

    what Molyneux said was:
1- he was “ashamed” of Fable 3′s metacritic score
2- But he agreed with the low scores – “but I know, when I read in the middle of a review that said the quality just wasn’t good enough, I actually agree with those reviews”
3- he said the game was rushed.
4- he blamed on himself for producing a poor quality game (by fable II standards) – “I’m pretty ashamed of, I take that on my own shoulders, not the team’s shoulders”

again, these are not my opinion nor my words.

I personally can wait. The longer they wait the bigger differentiation between this gen and next gen.

“360 & PS3 are working at there limits. if the hardware was better, the games would be better, without adding any development time, in fact it would probably shorten development time as coders would not need to work so hard to try and make the games work as they should.”

Unfortunately it’s not that simple. Devs would try and push the hardware like they are doing now. The cost of game development would go up just like it did last gen to this gen. There would never be enough RAM for them either.

  10. Godless:

    @ Roca
    “Wipeout looks beautifull”

that is true to some degree but there is not a hell of a lot to look at for most of it except the inside of a tunnel

The poly count on wipeout looks very low, and the textures while looking great are not HD quality. the textures in UC2 for example have way more detail

in wipeout, long before you have reached any texture, you have seen al the detail it will ever have, when close up it’s obvious that software upscaling of the textures is in play.

    Fable 3

Yes it was rushed 9 moths into the development year they started to pull the components together, that’s when they first realised the game was too big and that they would not be able to deliver what they had promised.

PM never says the game was poor, only that it fell short of what they had said it would be, PM blamed himself for that. he agreed that the low score was fair due to the games shortfalls, not because it was actually worse than either of the other able games.

PM is a dreamer and a visionary, when the game did not live up to what he had hoped it would be, and maybe what it should have been, he accepted that that was a failing on his part.

The game is still a great game despite that.

CLAY???? ehh!. .find me any other real time RPG with better graphics (on console)

  11. Roca.:

    @Godless
“PM never says the game was poor”

Molyneux – “the quality just wasn’t good enough”

Well, did Molyneux told all those assumptions you’re saying? Or you are just making shit up?

He was ashamed of its reviews, he agreed with those low scores, he admitted the quality was not there. He admitted it was rushed. He admitted to cut shit out – there is nothing to add it. The message is pretty clear and the reviews express a similar opinion.

Godless – “CLAY???? ehh!. .find me any other real time RPG with better graphics (on console)”

You gotta be kidding me right?
Oblivion, Demon’s Souls, WKC, Mass Effect just to name a few…not only do these games have better graphics but they also have a more realistic look and feel instead of looking cartoonish or made out of clay.

Wipeout looks awesome from start to finish. It’s by far one of the best looking game this gen. Please do your self a favor and get a decent tv, or better HDMI cables, remove the dust and the finger prints from your tv screen, get the calibration right or maybe you need to see an optical doctor to get new presciption glasses.

  12. phranctoast:

Wipeout HD is native 1080p. Not upscaled. The game is gorgeous.

Textures don’t require the same degree of detail when your passing them at 200mph.

A simple snap shot taken in game looks better than anything done on the 360. In fact a simple snap shot looks better than post processed screen shots from 360 games.

  13. Roca.:

Phranc – “A simple snap shot taken in game looks better than anything done on the 360″

    Like someon used to say:
    OWNED…
    BOOOM!!!!

  14. Godless:

Roca I have oblivion and mass effect2, neither is anything like Fable 3 (environment wise) mass effect faces look better, but environment is no where near as detailed. oblivion looks bad and the frame rate if very poor almost as bad as dragon age, the others I haven’t seen

the fable comments are relative to what PM had hoped the game would be, if failed to be all it could have been. the end quality due to having just 3 month to bolt the game together. The fact that a huge amount had to be removed left the game falling short of what he had wanted, and what he had said it would be, so he accepts the criticism and the reviews. He has never said the game was poorer than fable 2. No one who has played the game, could say it was poorer in any way than Fable 2.

It would be like saying Killzone 3 was poorer than Killzone 2? LBP 2 poorer than LBP1 ect. ect.

You are reading the reviews and hearing what you want to hear Roca, not what is really being said.

the fact is, that Fable 3 is the best of the Fable games, It did not live up to what PM had envisioned, falling short of what he had hoped for on a few fronts, but it is still a great game.

As for wipout, well if you like colourful tunnels then good for you.

  15. phranctoast:

Some of my best looking wallpapers are ones I made myself by snapping a pic in game from Wipeout HD.

Not only is the game technically superior with it’s resolution and frame rate, it’s even anesthetically superior.

I would have liked Some WipeoutXL levels though. The ones that goes underwater was badass.

  16. Roca.:

    @Godless
you’re opinion about graphics are no longer relevant as we all know you are pretty bad at judging graphics.

On Molyneux…I’m not the one making shit up and putting words on his mouth. I’m quoting what he said and he was ashamed of its reviews, he agreed with those low scores, he admitted the quality was not there. He admitted it was rushed. He admitted to cut shit out. Stop trying to spin things. The reivews even state that the game is kind of a letdown and a step backwards from Fable 2.

Funny enough how it took you a week to reply to the Fable comment after you have been ignoring it while commenting on other threads….now all you can come up is made up crap and assumptions? grow up!!

Godless – “the fact is, that Fable 3 is the best of the Fable games”

That’s an opinion, not a fact.
The fact is that Fable 2 is 1 point shy of being a critically acclaim game while Fable 3 for 360 is 1 point shy of being in the “not that good” category (70s) and its PC version is already in the mid 70s.

Another fact is PM also said Fable 3′s quality just wasn’t good enough and it was rushed out and he agree with the low reviews

as for Fable, well if you like cartoonish graphics that look made out of clay then good for you.

  17. twilight:

    Roca,
Lol . That’s why I made the previous statement on the previous post to Godless. There are issues. There is no way that the graphics of Fable 3 are better then the games you mentioned Roca.

  18. SW:

“Some of my best looking wallpapers are ones I made myself by snapping a pic in game from Wipeout HD.”

That’s funny because I was doing the exact some thing for a while.

You could make some freaking awesome pictures.

  19. Roca.:

“You could make some freaking awesome pictures”

Specially in those neon colored tracks where the speed keeps going up.

  20. ncaissie:

“It would be like saying Killzone 3 was poorer than Killzone 2? ”
The idiot capt said that. LOL

  21. jojo29:

    Godless
I think your meaning to compare art styles, which I personally really dig, fables at, style, imo is leaps and bounds better than dragon age….

Im more of an artistic type of style aka WoW type graphics actually, anything blizzard drawn or anything similiar,to,blizzards art style and im all over it, I dig rich colors…

For exampke, id rather have a bright, fantasy, looking tree than a tree that looks photo realistic….hope this helps you understand my tastes, but as far as graphics go, da and me have better graphics….

  22. CAD:

Oh come on a Nintendo 64 Game remake. Of Course it will do 1080P on the PS3. The 360 will just upconvert to 1080P. The game on the 360 will output 720P but any 360 owner knows the console will do the rest. The 360 does an awesome job of upconverting to 1080P. The PS3 can’t do that that why it needs to be 1080P right off the disk. The PS3 can upconvert DVD’s but it can’t upconvert Bluray.

  23. CAD:

In fact all 360 games do 1080P on HDMI or Component even though they are 720P Native because the console does the rest. It’s quite stunning to watch the difference by changing the settings.

  24. ncaissie:

“The PS3 can’t do that that why it needs to be 1080P right off the disk”
We don’t want it to stupid. Anyone with a good tv can tell the difference.

  25. ncaissie:

It’s quite stunning to watch the difference by changing between upconvert and native.

  26. Roca.:

    @CAD

    Native 1080p > Native 720 > upscaled 1080p (Xbox)

btw not all 360 games run at native 720p res – Halo, COD, RDR, GTA to name a few.

  27. phranctoast:

“The PS3 can upconvert DVD’s but it can’t upconvert Bluray.”

Why would the PS3 need to *upscale* (that’s the word you’re looking for btw) Blu rays when they’re already 1080p?

  28. phranctoast:

“Oh come on a Nintendo 64 Game remake. Of Course it will do 1080P on the PS3.”

Technically the game was recreated on a new engine for the PS3 and 360 according to Activision.

  29. Roca.:

    @Phranc

    LMAO – I didn’t read that part.

  30. phranctoast:

    Yeah. CAD’s a dolt. :)

  31. oldschool1987:

‘I think this is proof that the PS3 is almost at it’s limits’

    The 360 his it’s limit in 2006.

And what is it with CAD always owning himself? He makes our job easy.
