July 20, 2011

goldeneye There is a new rumor making the rounds around a remake of the classic GoldenEye 007 game. The game is rumored to be coming out for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Wii received a HD remake of the classic GoldenEye 007 game not that long ago. It appears that Activision may be looking to make another remake of the game for the PS3 and Xbox 360 titled GoldenEye 007 Reloaded.

Users on NEOGAF have posted alleged screenshots from the game. These leaked screens do appear to corroborate the rumors. In addition, Reloaded has been trademarked as discovered by Superannuation.

Apparently Activision is set to make an announcement at Comic-Con around the Bond franchise. GoldenEye 007 has had a checkered past, with controversy around who actually owns the rights to the game between – Nintendo, Microsoft (Rare) and Activision. It appears that Activision will be coming out on top, owning rights to the Bond franchise.

  1. FahKinSuPah:

Goldeneye was one of, if not, the best N64 games released. This was definately in Rare’s prime.

Re-releasing it solely on Wii was a mistake. Also changing the face of bond was a mistake.

  2. Barnabe Jones:

    Activision, huh?

4 hour game with some online modes? Pass.

  3. Roca.:

they are already milking the James Bond/GoldenEye IP.

    not interested.

  4. twilight:

I’ll give it a go regardless if it comes out on Ps3/Xbox360. I never got to play this game.

  5. FahKinSuPah:

    @Twilight

IMHO just get your hands on a N64 and a copy of the original Goldeneye.

  6. Roca.:

The game is an FPS and those haven’t aged well…

The game was a classic back then…now we have better FPSs. There nothing that truly stands out of GoldenEye that we can’t get on other FPSs.

What made the game fun was playing 4-player split-screen multiplayer with your close friends..passing the controller around and looking at other ppl screen, etc. It’s not possible to replicate those experience now days

  7. FahKinSuPah:

“It’s not possible to replicate those experience now days”

Which is why sometimes you need to dust off the old N64 and play those games again :D

I have a N64, 4 controllers, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark just for those occasions.

  8. Roca.:

yeah but the most difficult thing to have will be to have 3 or 4 friends all available at the same time.

Now that we all have a life (kids, work, girls) is kind hard to get your friends to come over to play.

  9. twilight:

    FahKinSuPah,
I am not a classic gamer. I am current generation gamer. I would not get a Nintendo 64 because I don’t want to look at old generation graphics. Besides, I just paid $2000 for a new Samsung 3D led tv. I’m all about graphics. Unlike the average person, graphics mean a lot to me.

  10. twilight:

    Roca,
Speaking of tv’s, you should get a led 3D tv. You told me to get one and it is awesome. BB has great sales going on. I got a 46 inch Samsung with full flash webb browser/fully loaded apps, keyboard remote, 10 million to one contrast ratio, ultra clear panel/color enhancer, and thin bezel. The 2d picture quality is amazing. Everything I display on this tv looks great.

  11. ncaissie:

    Pass

  12. ncaissie:

I’m getting the playstation tv when it’s out.

  13. FahKinSuPah:

    @Twilight

“Unlike the average person, graphics mean a lot to me.”

Graphics aren’t everything. A game could have the best graphics in the world but that won’t mean SHIT if the controls are like an iced turd on a frozen pond, or the story is about as deep as a german shiza film.

  14. FahKinSuPah:

    sorry

    shiza = sheisse

  15. CON:

Must buy for me. The wii version looked incredible.

  16. twilight:

    FahKinSuPah,
I understand your point. However, I will not play a game that has crappy graphics. I don’t care how good the game may be.

  17. phranctoast:

Graphics aside, since this is an HD remake, I think Golden Eye is dated and wouldn’t see a purchase as anything more than a discounted price and for nostalgia purposes.

I just don’t think Gooden Eye holds up to todays standards for MP.

  18. ncaissie:

    @twilight
How can someone who is so into graphics buy a tv you need to squint to see?

  19. ncaissie:

May as well play on your iPhone.

  20. twilight:

    Ncaissie,
The tv is in my bedroom. I don’t consider a 46 inch tv to be a small tv. I assure you I am not squinting to see anything. Besides, the tv is bigger then Sony’s Playstation tv which is only going to be 24 inches. All I can say is that there is a reason why Samsung televisions are consistently the top selling televisions in the world.

  21. jojo29:

    Twilight
Samsung and Sony are in bed together

Sony owns a nice chunk of samsung stock, I think in the 30% range, in, exchange for Samsung LED tech, Sony allows Samsung to, use Sonys manufacturing plants, smart move by Samsung to be able to put out their tv s, smarter move by Sony not only by investing in, Samsung, but by insuring they get ahold off ask current LED/television tech ;)

  22. jojo29:

Or some type of deal alomg those lines

  23. Barnabe Jones:

Golden Eye was a lot of fun back in the day. I remeber sitting around with a few friends, smoking, and playing for hours on end.

I think it was one of the first really sucsessful 4 player FPSs on a console.

I doubt it would blow away any newer games if they tried it out today.

There’s no need to buy an N64. Just ROM it.

  24. ncaissie:

I’m buying the PS tv for my daughter. I have the HD projector for my gaming. 115 inches baby! (that’s what she said)

  25. ncaissie:

I was sad when my 65 inch died and had to get a 52 :(
But the 65 wasn’t HD so I guess it wasn’t a total disappointment.

  26. ncaissie:

I could play n64 games on my xperia play phone.

  27. dans303:

    21″ FTW!!

  28. Roca.:

that must be the size of your PC monitor…right

  29. dans303:

    I wish . . .

  30. FahKinSuPah:

I have a 29″ LCD. It’s nothing fancy, but it works really well and has served me well since I bought it. I get my HD fix :D

I think ive had it for 3-4 years now. Its funny that for what I paid for it back then I could get 37″ or so now for the same price.

I sit less than 5 feet away from my tv and 29″ is perfect but then again I wouldn’t mind a 37″

When i have to buy a new one I will probably go for a Samsung. Samsung does make high quality products and their HD tvs are among the best.

  31. twilight:

    Ncaissie,
Lol. No wonder your calling my tv little. It is little compared to your monster tv size.
    Jojo,
All I can say is that this is the greatest tv I have ever owned. It has everything I could possibly want. Samsung and Sony make awesome tv’s. The only problem with Sony is that they don’t give enough features for the same cost as the competition and their sales are not as good as they should be. I couldn’t get a tv with the same features in the same price range with Sony. Also, I don’t care for the fact that Sony doesn’t list the contrast ratios of its tv’s.

  32. jojo29:

    Twilight
Agreed, sony, they charge an arm and a leg :)

  33. Barnabe Jones:

    115 inches?

Holy crap that’s huge. Sounds awesome though.

  34. Roca.:

Sony’s TVs are being with Gorilla Glass awesomeness!! :D

I just wished they were cheaper :(

    @Twilight
I like I’m thinking about jumping into 3D but I’m not buying one anything soon as I prefer functionality/features over 3D and the TVs with have now will soon be outdated…why do I say that?

well I many of the biggest tech companies are jumping and building a network or ecosystem into the TV space – Apple, Google, etc

I’m personally waiting for a decent Google TV to hit the store shelves. But I’ll wait until they release their upcoming Google TV update.

  35. Roca.:

LMAO @ ncaissie’s comment about squinting on a 46″ TV.

I thought he wasn’t being serious but he backed that up with his 115″ display…

I wonder what he’ll to dans’ 21 inch

  36. MAK:

I dont know why people are complaining. Id love to see one of my childhood favorites upgraded with trophy support.

I guarantee everyone will buy it. Youre all just putting on a show.

  37. dans303:

“I wonder what he’ll to dans’ 21 inch”

Like trying to read a watch from 500ft? ;)

  38. oldschool1987:

    ”115 inches?

    Holy crap that’s huge”

    …That’s what she said ;)

  39. dans303:

I wonder what “she said” about mine? :(

  40. oldschool1987:

She told me not to say mate lol.

  41. oldschool1987:

I just got that Limbo off the store, love it so far. Been playing it for an hour or so and decided to check the chapters, seems I’m halfway through it already :(

  42. phranctoast:

Limbo looks cool. So did Braid and I find myself playing retail releases before even finishing the first level of it..

  43. dans303:

I just completed Limbo. Really, really good it has to be said. A bit short on the short side though.

    @phranc

That’s the first time I’ve ever finished a PSN game – I just couldn’t stop playing it.

  44. Godless:

    Twilight

    Regarding contrast ratio

“10 million to one contrast ratio” ??? Hmmm

    Sony doesn’t List

The Contrast ratio figure has been so badly abused, (mainly by the cheap ass suppliers) that it means nothing anymore.

Sony and a few of the other top brands have given up supplying there calculated contrast ratio because it often make there set look bad, when the fact is the picture quality & real contrast ratios are way better than some of the claims made by the competition.

Sad to see Samsung have joined in with the billion to 1 contrast figures. .they could if they wanted claim a trillion to one, because the LED emits 0 light when off, and any level of on can be claimed to be a squillion times more bright than no light???

don’t be fooled by big numbers. Samsung are good anyways so you’re fine, but next time look at what Technica & Bush claim, bet there at the 100,000,000 to 1 by now ;)

  45. twilight:

    Godless,
The top selling tv brands at the moment are Samsung, Lg, Sony, and Panasonic. All of the top brands list the specs of the tv. I know all about contrast ratios and so on. I am well aware of the contrast game. You are not telling me anything about Sony and the industry that I don’t already know. It takes more then just high contrast ratios to achieve the perfect picture. I have no problem discussing issues with you but I will not get into discussing blu ray or televisions with you. I am not trying to be disrespectfu towards you when I say this. However, you don’t know what you are talking about regarding these issues most of the time as proved by your previous posts regarding blu ray films/televisions/blu rayers.

  46. Roca.:

Top selling doesn’t always reflects the quality of a product. Toyota are the top selling car worldwide, but I’m pretty sure everyone (including those with a Toyota) would like a Audi, BMW, Lexus or Austin Martin..

Samsung has become one of the faster and bigger TV manufacturer (just like Sony was in 80s/80s) because they offer a good quality TV for a decent price.

Sony’s TV always pack top quality material, features, design and functionality but they cost a bit much. The price is a lil higher because Sony is a japanese company (Samsung is from Korea) and the Yen is not that strong anymore.

Their doing better with their prices lately – the average price of their cameras, BD players, audio systen and even the PS vita are in the same range as the competition. Their Bravias and VIAO brand are still expensive as hell.

  47. dans303:

    *Aston Martin ;)

  48. Roca.:

    dans, You have one too?

  49. ncaissie:

I do want 3D but I don’t want to give up the projector or the Bravia.

  50. twilight:

    Ncaissie,
If I had to choose, I’ll take excellent 2D quality over 3D quality any day of the week. 3D is a nice bonus but 3D content is still limited. I upgraded my tv because I wanted even better 2D picture quality and all the apps/full webb browser on the tv. I went ahead and got the tv with 3D because it is always smart to buy the latest technologies with televisions. I see 3D as just a nice bonus.

  51. ncaissie:

I just got the projector and Bravia a couple of years ago. So when I need a new tv it will be 3D.
