Mirror’s Edge 2 on Battlefield 3′s engine a possibility

July 31, 2011

Mirror's Edge 2 on Battlefield 3's engine a possibility In the past, EA revealed that the Mirror’s Edge IP is not dead but in incubation. Executives at the company indicated that EA is looking at how the IP can be brought back.

According to CVG, EA boss Frank Gibeau didn’t outright dismiss the notion of Mirror’s Edge 2 running on DICE’s beefy Frostbite 2 engine. The engine is currently being used for Battlefield 3. He stated, “You’ll see that combination I’m sure.”

Apparently the Official PlayStation Magazine is reporting a new rumor indicating that the Frostbite 2 engine will be used for Mirror’s Edge 2. The magazine wrote, “The Frostbite 2 engine will pave the way for Mirror’s Edge to make a free-running return.”

Mirror’s Edge released back in 2008 to generally favorable reviews with most calling it a fresh new first person platformer. Stay tuned for more information around this IP.

I seriously hope they bring it back. One of my most favorite games.
It has such great atmosphere, sounds, and music. There were some really intense moments in that game that made you rush. So fun.

I wish Sony would make Mirrors Edge 2 exclusive for PS3. Im sure EA and DICE wouldnt mind. They could program it way better and would have more storage for more content.

This. I love this game so much. Fantastic IMO.

I bought Mirrors edge awhile ago but never got around to playing it. Might just have to check it out sometime soon.

Mirror’s Edge is a game that made many gamers sick. I’m glad I don’t have motion sickness issues. I can play any game I want. My friend has it bad. My friend can only play sports games and games that don’t have swinging cameras.

  5. Barnabe Jones:

Anyone see the new Amazing Spiderman trailer yet? The first person view part, is very Mirror’s Edge-ish.

I beat Mirror’s Edge. I found it to be a bit more frustrating than fun. Most of the platforming felt clunky, and mediocre. Asides from a few big moments, you were pretty much doing very small basic jumps.

I realize that the game’s emphasis wasn’t on combat, but when you forced to fight, it felt disorienting, and frustrating.

And if you weren’t infuriated enough, you could have added on a clock to the whole game, to really completely piss you off.

Yeah, probably going to skip the sequel.

    Bj,
I haven’t seen the trailer yet but I’ll have to check it out.

  7. Barnabe Jones:

The bit at the end, show a first person view of Spidey running around on top of the roofs, climbing walls, and swinging. It’s just like Mirror’s Edge. It’s pretty cool.

  8. Roca.:

    @BJ
That scene looked very cool but it’s probably one of those scene that are only made for promotional trailer and won’t make it into the actual movie.

    Roca,
Thanks. I’ll check it out when I get home from work since I can’t access it from work.

I’m kinda meh about the new Spiderman movie. I’m a fan, but I kinda feel like it’s just going to be Spiderman 1 with different actors and a different villain.

I’m super excited for the Advengers on the other hand.

  12. FahKinSuPah:

    “Advengers”

Wow thats really worth giving a second look lol

  13. Roca.:

Spider-Man (comics) has many stories taking place in many different universes – they are not related to each other (example: Ulitmate Spider-Man & Amazing Spider-Man)

Amazing Spider-Man takes place in a different universer. He’s younger, cooler and sleeker and the story is totally different.

Let’s hope they can pull it off and not ruin it like they did with the Tobey Maguire serie.

The Advengers looks cool but I have a feeling Tony Stark will steal the show (and maybe the ninja girl was well). They need to get The Hulk back in it though…

  14. FahKinSuPah:

Whats with everyone saying “Advengers”? Its Avengers lmao

  15. Roca.:

LOL the movie it’s a year away so maybe that’s why we can’t get the spelling right ;)

  16. Barnabe Jones:

lol Fahkin is right. I don’t really use the word on a day to basis in defense though.

    Roca,

Hulk was confirmed as being in it. They didn’t show him in the teaser at the end of Captain America though.

Ironman was awesome, but I honestly think Captain America was a better movie. Check it out if you haven’t. BTW I’m by no means a Cap fanboy either. It was just a really good movie.

Still need to catch Thor. It got good reviews. I’ll have to rent it when it comes out.

  17. Roca.:

I watched the CA movie – didn’t like it as much as Hulk or Iron Man.

All he was doing was running and gunning with a bunch of crazies. Nothing special.

If a super hero does have amazing powers like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor…then you need to have a top notch story and action scenes (like Dark Knight) but that wasn’t there in CA movie

It stil was a good movie, but imo it was not as good as other super hero movies

    Roca
Iron man has no special piwers, just a powered up suit, the appeal of captain america is that he is the pinnacle of human powers, meaning he only as powered up as a human being can be, nowhere near the likes of spiderman and hulk but, caps other strengths are he can inspire you to follow him, hes got a photographic memory, a natural born leader, is one of the best as mortal combat/ hand to hand combat, a brilliant strategist, etc….thats why he is able to land a few and a take a few blows from even the hulk, he the prime example of a natural birn leader and its because of that, the movie has a bit more of a broader appeal, hes doing things a normal himan would be able to do if they were in the best shape as humanly possible…

  19. Roca.:

    @jojo
we didn’t see any of that in the movie. He was just a dude with a CA outfit..throwing his shield around from time to time..but nothing really spectacular.

Thanks for the correction about Iron Man, but yet even if he has no power on his own the suit does some impressive shit.

  20. jojo29:

    Roca
yeah i know what you mean about the ca movie not really having anything spectactular, in terms of super hero action…it still managed to be a solid movie somehow ;) and at least now we can finally look forward to the avengers movie ;) rumor has it that Thanos will be the main villain ;) which means it will have to follow the infinity gauntlet story arc

i love thanos, he single handedly is THE most powerful character in both dc and marvel universes…trust me on this and im a huge superman/superman prime fanboy ;)

  21. Barnabe Jones:

The Hulk? Seriously? The Incredible Hulk was better than Ang Lee’s, but it was basically the same movie with a different ending. Why I’m not excited for Amazing Spiderman. (and yes – I was a huge Spiderman fan for many years)

I think if you timed the action sequences in Cap and compared to Ironman, you’d be surprised. Not that Ironman wasn’t great, but Cap did have more action.

Cap didn’t drone on about his powers, because they chose to focus more on him as a person, and what drives, and motivates him.

btw… picked up Cap Omnibus vol 1&2. Awesome read. Up to Civil War.

    JoJo,

Yeah I’ve heard that also. Missed Thor, but supposedly there was a scene which showed the Infinity Gauntlet in Loki’s chamber.

It should be either him or Galactus. I don’t think any other villain would work.

  22. ncaissie:

“powered up as a human being can be, nowhere near the likes of spiderman and hulk ”
Dude, the hulk is a powered up human also.

  23. ncaissie:

I love all super hero movies but CA was my least favorite.
Too much story and not enough action. It was made so kids could watch so without the cool cgi powers it was plain Jane.

  24. Barnabe Jones:

    ncaissie,

Do you still read comics? If so, what?

I’ve been slowly getting back in. Picked up a ton of Batman graphic novels at comic con. I’ve been reading the new Cap series – which is really good. I read 1-27 or so in the last few days.

Already thinking about what to read after ;)

  25. Roca.:

Tony Stark’s dad even stole the show in the CA movie lol

CA as a movie, it was pretty solid. As a comic book hero movie, imo, it didn’t deliver.

  26. jojo29:

    ^^well put roca

    Ncaissie
Bruce Banner in hulk form is not “just” a human…it is beyond human hence not human in the sense of the word….

  27. ncaissie:

I read superman, batman and superman, green lantern, action, flashpoint, and a few others. Mostly DC.

  28. ncaissie:

I would read more but it gets costly.

  29. ncaissie:

“CA as a movie, it was pretty solid. As a comic book hero movie, imo, it didn’t deliver.”

I agree. Even Amanda liked it and she hates super hero movies.

  30. ncaissie:

He is still human. Just super powered through nano gamma whatever’s.
