Crysis announced for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network for $20
Never-say-never should be the mantra at Crytek as the studio recently announced that the first Crysis game will be making its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will be available as a downloadable game only across the two platforms.
Co-founder of Crytek, Cevat Yerli in the past indicated that the company had no plans to bring the first Crysis to the PS3 or Xbox 360. In an interview on GTTV, Yerli revealed that the studio has been secretly working on porting the game onto the two platforms.
The first sign that this game could be coming to the consoles cropped up a couple months ago, when an ESRB rating for the first game was listed for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Looking at the debut trailer for Crysis for the PS3/Xbox 360, I have to say that it really doesn’t look all that impressive. The port is clearly noticeably inferior to the PC version. For those wanting to experience the open world experience of the first Crysis game can download the title for $20 off Xbox Live and PlayStation Network in October.

I thought about getting it but honestly I’m not sure…. What really kills it for me is the fact that its download only… Crysis is the kind of game I would much rather have a disc for.
September 10th, 2011
?
It’s the same game disc or download.
Play it. Beat it. You’re done.
What difference does it make whether or not it comes on disc if you can download it?
September 10th, 2011
October is already stacked..so by the time I’m ready to buy it, it will be a lot cheaper
September 10th, 2011
@Carl
Because its easier to use a disc. DUH!
Maybe some people dont have much free space on their hard drives and dont feel like deleting stuff they have on there.
Plus DLing several GBs worth of data just takes time that could be better used playing the game in the first place.
September 10th, 2011
I don’t really mind downloads too much. I just had to get a bigger hardrive so I could download all of the digital content that I wanted.
September 10th, 2011
I have 20 GB left on my PS3 now, and can easily free up another 20 GB and not even miss it.
My connection is slow, but it really isn’t that difficult to just set a game to download before I go to work or sleep, then play it when I come back.
“Maybe some people dont have much free space on their hard drives and dont feel like deleting stuff they have on there.”
If they value what they have already and don’t have enough space they will probably have to upgrade like twilight before the end of the gen anyway.
Once I plat/100% the game I usually delete it if I need the space because I realize I probably won’t be going back to it and can always download it again if I really want.
It really isn’t that difficult. Besides that, we probably wouldn’t even see this game come to consoles if digital distribution wasn’t an option for Crytek, as the retail shelf space is already so overcrowded.
September 10th, 2011
I will get it free for both consoles since I hate the second one.
I got Crysys 2 on my hack PS3 is in 3D and only takes 5.58GB
September 10th, 2011
A lot too late if you ask me.
Crysis 2 is already out and ppl didn’t cared much for it…and the graphics won’t be anything like it was when PC.
September 10th, 2011
Carl, I don’t get you sometimes.
After the huge debate we all had about digital distribution vs. physical media, I thought we came to the understanding that, at least for now, physical media is superior, if only due to technological constraints.
No one can argue this: physical media is more convenient, because a large % of the market has stock HDDs or because games are just too large these days for having your entire gaming library (hell, even half of it) on your HDD. Have you seen Roca, Ivan or Oldschool’s game collections? I’m pretty sure they have more than a TB of data in just the games alone, not counting trophies, saves, dlc, themes, music, movies or pictures…
Working at Best Buy, I have to make HDD recommendations based on what people use, and we only sell up to 1-2 TB externals. And those things ARE NOWHERE NEAR CHEAP.
Hate to say it mate, but you’re in the minority (gaming community-wise). People want their plastic, myself included.
September 10th, 2011
I prefer discs. I like to have something to show for what ive bought.
September 10th, 2011
CaptBirdman:
Well i got two external Seagate 1TB HDD each $60 want prove ask me. I just them for my PS3 they both full.
September 10th, 2011
“too large these days for having your entire gaming library (hell, even half of it) on your HDD.”
There’s this thing called the cloud Cap, and it basically eliminates the need for mega large HDD’s or plastic. And while I truly understand slow internet connections can lengthen the time to download (I probably have the slowest here), that time can easily be mitigated by several factors.
I buy games to play. Once I play them I move on to the next new experience. I don’t need anything to “show”, I pay for the experience, not plastic.
And yes, digital distribution is more convenient for me, because as slow as it is with my connection to download games, it is still faster than waiting for a game to come in the mail or going through the hassle to find a particular store that carries the specific games I want.
The only reason I don’t play all my games via digital distribution is because they aren’t all offered that way yet, but the ones that are digitally distributed are a hell of a lot more convenient for me, and that level of convenience is only going to continually increase as tech advances.

cloud is in its early stages and probably won’t be as popular as physical disc or DD unless it’s subscription based….and we all know content owner don’t support anything subscription based. People don’t even like always-on DRM for DD or retail games.
If I were to download all the games I have it would easily be over 10TB and each of them will take hours to download.
cloud also affects you bandwidth limit since it will constantly stream data…Cloud is the future but not anytime soon.
September 10th, 2011
Roca, the cloud already exists with services such as PSN/XBL/Steam, and they are very popular. You purchase the game once and you can delete and redownload as many times as you want at no extra charge.
September 11th, 2011
And I already addressed bandwidth limit before. As I said, I probably have one of the slowest connections here. I really don’t care about it at this point because I already have learned to do other things like: begin downloading before I go to bed or work, let alone play other movies and games while I’m downloading, and even when I’m on the internet on my laptop and the PS3 is downloading something, I don’t really notice a difference because it automatically adjusts for my laptop to take priority.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I normally don’t play any more than 2-7 games at any given time (about 10GB – 70GB), and once I’m done with them I usually don’t go back, but move on to games I haven’t played before, so a 10TB hard drive really isn’t necessary.
“we all know content owner don’t support anything subscription based”
What planet have you been living on? The newest games, like Deus Ex Human Revolution are coming out on OnLive, and now GameStop is executing plans so they can gain control of the streaming market.
September 11th, 2011
Just $20?
sold!
September 11th, 2011
Sony will soon use their 8 billion and buy OnLive.
PlayStation 3
Xperia Play
Sony Tablet
PlayStation Portable
And soon PlayStation Vita
PlayStation TV
And PlayStation Live lmfao
September 11th, 2011
Like I really feel like leaving my PC on over night, or while Im away at work so I can download a game? Imagine having to download Metal Gear Solid 4. With all those cutscenes and movies it would be a very large file. Not only would it take up a HUGE chunk of a hard drive but it would take forever to DL it over PSN.
And its not just the bandwidth either…
What about the electricity costs? Your gonna leave your PS3 on to DL the game and its start adding up on your electricity bill.
I dunno about the rest of you guys but elecricity isn’t exactly cheap, and many utility companies started increasing rates in the last couple years.
I know someone like ncaissie will get what I mean cause he has a family to take care of and no doubt his electric bill is probably frustrating at times.

CarlB – “Roca, the cloud already exists with services such as PSN/XBL/Steam, and they are very popular. You purchase the game once and you can delete and redownload as many times as you want at no extra charge”
that’s not a cloud-based service because after you download those games you can only access them (play them) from your HDD…cloud means play them from the cloud (streamed from a server).
CarlB – “What planet have you been living on? The newest games, like Deus Ex Human Revolution are coming out on OnLive, and now GameStop is executing plans so they can gain control of the streaming market.”
What planet have you been living on??? newer games are coming out on OnLive and gamestop is building a streaming services…yes you’re right but like I said content owners don’t support anything subscription based and we can already see that OnLive announced that there would no longer be any subscription fees for the service on October 4, 2010…4 months after they launched (and almost a year ago. So my statement still stand.
September 11th, 2011
“Like I really feel like leaving my PC on over night”
Been doing it for years, no problem.
“What about the electricity costs? Your gonna leave your PS3 on to DL the game and its start adding up on your electricity bill.”
That’s an interesting point. Does anyone know how much their PS3 adds on to their electricity bill per month if they leave their PS3 on for two to four nights (2-4 games/mo)?
I don’t know, but probably not as much as I wind up saving buying the same games online for a fraction of their original MSRP.
“that’s not a cloud-based service”
Yes, it is. Cloud based services do not necessitate only streaming by definition. They also include things such as object storage, which I just described. In other words, if you bought 100 games via digital distribution, you don’t have to have all 100 games on your hard drive at once.
“OnLive announced that there would no longer be any subscription fees for the service on October 4, 2010″
Interesting, because “OnLive confirmed the details of its PlayPack flat-rate payment (i.e. subscription) plan on December 2, 2010. With this option players pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to ‘recent, classic and indie titles’ in the OnLive library, which includes new releases.”
And yes, that’s a cloud based service as well. Not only do content owners support this subscription based service, they are original investors (e.g. Warner Bros).
September 11th, 2011
OnLive PlayPack includes unlimited play of 90+ games.
$9.99/mo
http://www.onlive.com/games/playpack#&tab=top_games&sortby=alpha
September 11th, 2011
I can’t find any subscription based option on it..and I have the Online client install on my PC – all I see are the prices of the game – Warhammer is $50 to stream for example. PlayBack is pretty much like PSN+, where for a fee you get access to a library of “selected” games…does PSN+ lets play all the games available on PSN for a monthly/yearly fee? no, same goes for PlayBack on Online, the Library is very limited and full of shitty games right now. They won’t let you get unlimited access on ALL the games. They stopped offering the “all you can play” for a monthly fee 4 months after they launched.
cloud means accessing and reading/playing content not stored in a local storage. Like Onlive. If you download it and play them from your HDD that is not cloud gaming…Like Steam.
September 11th, 2011
“I know someone like ncaissie will get what I mean cause he has a family to take care of and no doubt his electric bill is probably frustrating at times”
Yes, and we have these fuckin meters that charge a primium during peek times. And my we have a pool and daycare.
It sucks ass.
September 11th, 2011
“Like I really feel like leaving my PC on over night”
You also have the option of background downloads, so you can play other games, movies, etc. while the game is downloading.
September 11th, 2011
“I can’t find any subscription based option on it..”
PlayPack is the subscription.
“all I see are the prices of the game – Warhammer is $50 to stream for example.”
You can also purchase access to certain games instead of getting the PlayPack subscription, or you can get 30% off those games with the subscription. Games are being added over time to the subscription service.
“does PSN+ lets play all the games available on PSN for a monthly/yearly fee?”
Your original point was “we all know content owner don’t support anything subscription based.”
I addressed the point in mentioning OnLive PlayPack and PSN+ as a subscription based services. Content owners support these services and will continue to in the future. Nowhere before did you stipulate “ALL the games”, of course pubs are going to charge a premium for new content. We’ve already seen the same story happen with Netflix. This doesn’t change the fact that it is a streaming based cloud subscription service.
“the Library is very limited and full of shitty games right now.”
The Witcher, BioShock, Borderlands, Deus Ex, F.E.A.R., Just Cause 2, and Prince of Persia are not “shitty games”.
“If you download it and play them from your HDD that is not cloud gaming…”
Being able to download any game you have already paid for from an online server at any time as many times as you need to instead of having to keep all your games on an HDD is a cloud based service.
September 12th, 2011
All cloud service is, is a fancier name for Internet based network storage.
PSN plus uses cloud services to save game files non locally.
September 12th, 2011
Crysis2 was very disappointing, I don’t see this being any different, or anything like the PC version for that matter.
The consoles just can’t do the complex environments with large play areas, Battlefield 2 is the best attempt I’ve seen so far.
off topic, I just bought Killzone 3 for £17.50 hope its as good as the demo. and I’m currently playing earth defence Insect Armageddon. Arcade blasting madness, even better than the original, anyone else played/playing this, could really do with a multiplayer buddy.
September 12th, 2011
Yes, that’s part of what I’ve been trying to communicate all along, the cloud is already here and we are already utilizing it on a massive scale with PSN/XBL/Steam/OnLive; some people just haven’t realized it yet because they have a limited definition of what it is supposed to mean.
September 12th, 2011
Yeah. It much more vast than just file saving and streaming. Cloud computing covers many different aspects. Roca is correct in one of those, but it covers so much more.
September 12th, 2011
How do you like PvZ?
September 12th, 2011
Awesome. Just beat it. Working through some challenges and trophies. Trying to find the tree that I need to grow 100ft.
Astro tripper is a bit meh though. I like Plus and it will earn it’s price tag and then some this month with RE4HD.
September 12th, 2011
“Trying to find the tree that I need to grow 100ft.”
The tree is in Crazy Dave’s shop, just hit R1 from the main menu, select shop, then hit R1 3 times to pull up the screen that has it.
September 12th, 2011
Didn’t realize there were different screens in his shop. I hope I don’t need to deal with the zen garden anymore. I have a feeling I do though….
September 12th, 2011
There aren’t any Zen Garden related trophies. but that Tree needs about 300,000 coins to get it to 100ft. Stupid trophy imo.
September 12th, 2011
Damn….
Well, I need to beat survival to unlock ‘unlimited survival” to get the 40 waves so I’ll start using the flowers that generate coins.
September 12th, 2011
Do you already have everything from Crazy Dave’s shop? You will need to buy them as well.
September 12th, 2011
I don’t have every plant upgrade yet. Some aren’t even available to me. I have the repeater gatlin gun attachment. The dual sunflower. The night gloom shroom, and the catail are available for purchase. The others I haven’t been given the option to purchase.
September 12th, 2011
It’s easiest to raise the money with the zen garden; buy, grow, and keep the marigolds, sell everything else. You should have enough money to grow the wisdom tree by the end of survival mode, if not you should only need a couple more levels with proper farming of the marigolds.
Cob cannon and the gloom shroom are the best plants in the game to eliminate the enemy, combined with a few frozen melon catapults, but cattails are useful as well for balloon zombies and simple elimination of zombies early in lower levels. If you can get the gloom shroom now, do so, and use the coffee bean with it so you can use it during the day.
September 12th, 2011
Ima just download this free $20 for a non Sony games fuck that shit.
September 12th, 2011
What the fuck are you talking about dipshit?
It’s free for plus members. Ivan did you pay for plus?
September 13th, 2011
Thanks for the tips. I started over from the beginning where Douchebag Dave chooses some of my plants which is annoying (but I understand why they do that).
I’ve been using the Marigolds during the matches but they simply don’t produce enough then. I’ll give the Zen garden a shot.
September 13th, 2011
This version of Crysis should be good if priced right. I have it on my PC but mu PC couldn’t run it on higher settings. Maybe this will be my definitive version. I always found the game a bit overrated though.
