Best Xbox 360 game 2011
With the end of the year rapidly approaching us, its that time again to reflect back on the many titles that have released this year and determine which game deserves that coveted best game of the year title.
Over the next few weeks we will be putting up a list of nominees and our top nomine for the best game of the year for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii. We will give you an opportunity to influence the outcome of the final verdict on which game should be the best game of the year for that specific platform by voting in the poll on the left hand side of the page.
Nominees
#4. Dance Central 2
With the launch of the Kinect, the only reason you needed to buy the peripheral was Dance Central. While Dance Central 2 doesn’t revolutionize the series, it does improve it with some nifty tricks. The sequel supports voice commands allowing players to queue up tracks and now supports two player simultaneous dance-off battles.
#3. Trenched
While this is an XBLA game, its one of the best tower defense cross third person shooter titles to come out this year. There have been a few notable ones but Trenched managed to get this new hybrid genre on the radar earlier this year. The in-depth customization of your trench unit adds a great deal of depth to this simple idea born from the RTS genre. With full fledged offerings such as StarHawk dropping next year, Trenched is one title to help keep your appetite in check.
#2. Forza Motorsport 4
This game remains on top as the best race car game to be released this year. The fourth iteration in the series ups the ante by not only transporting all of the cars from the third game but also adds a couple hundred more to the list. The social networking integration and the autolog-style new addition help keep the game on the player’s mind even while away from it.

#1. Gears of War 3
With an epic closure to one of the biggest franchises born this generation, Gears 3 deserves all the high marks its gotten. The story, while still cheesy, still managed to add some emotional elements into the mix that may have you squeezing out a tear or two. The multiplayer mode has been elevated to a new level with Beast Mode and Horde Mode 2.0 as well. Check out our review of Gears of War 3 to see why we felt this title should be nominated as the best Xbox 360 game of 2011.
Dark Horse
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
While this game is a remake of the classic Combat Evolved from 2001, the newly formed 343 Industries studio has rebuilt this game from the ground up with a new engine. In addition to offering a new polished version, the studio has the old game running in the background in case you want to switch back and forth. While this game won’t release till later this year, it may have the goods to topple the list of nominees here.

The graphics and frame rate are at high risk due to Bethesda’s incompetent decision to favor Xbox 360 again. Whatever credibility they had as an intelligent company is now shrouded in stupidity.

Played the demo of Forza 4 and around 30 minutes of Gears 3. so different, and really difficult to know which game I’d choose if I could only have one or other.

I’ve been playing Forza for about a week and a half now and it is a beautiful game. Lots of detail in the cars too. But, for me, I still give the edge to GT5 for handling, tracks, variety and scope of cars.
I haven’t played any of the others at all, nor am I intersted in doing so.

Carl answered for me with that link lol.
It’s a DLC, it looked promising when it was coming out for the 360. I was going to get it but then the reviews said the game was broken. The studio behind it done the smart thing and have taken all criticisms on board and fixed most problems and made it a much better game according to articles I’ve read on it.
It’s free so I won’t be complaining lol.

The list of best Xbox360 games is quite bad. Dance Central 2… lol. The best Xbox360 game is Gears Of War 3 followed by Forza 4. Although, the sales of Forza 4 have been somewhat lackluster so far.
Anyways, Uncharted 3 comes out tomorrow. This game alone destroys most of Xbox360′s gaming catalog.

It will be a great game to play through, maybe a couple of times to get some trophies, and the multi player will add some extra, but it does not have the lasting appeal of the likes Gears 3. this game has a much better multiplayer, so long after everyone has played through UC3 a couple of times then dabbled a bit with the multiplayer there will be armies(literally) of players putting hundreds of thousands of man hours into Gears3
UC2 is one of my favourite games, but half way through my second play through I lost interest, which is better than you lasted as you have only done about 1/4 of the game.
the UC games are a fantastic play-through, but there is not that much to go back for once you’ve done it.
As an all-rounder I would guess that Gears 3 will be better than UC3, just because it’s less likely to be gathering dust after 2 weeks.

Lasting appeal???
That only applies to games whose focus is lasting appeal i.e, fps, co op/multiplayer games…
Uncharted has always been about the single player campaign…EVERYTHING else is a BONUS…
Gears is a fun single player game but its meant to be played online…the single player is not its focus….its a bonus to its multiplayer

It’s been stated by me on numerous occassions on this site that I lost my game saves beacause of system failure before I started gaming online. I lost a huge chunk of game saves. I now have Psn plus now so I don’t have to worry about this. Nice try though. Unlike you, at least I buy new games at full price. You never buy any new game releases. You’re always fussing about Xbox360 games yet you never buy any of the games. Where’s Forza 4? You haven’t even purchased this game but yet you talked so much how better this game is then GT5.

True, I’m not that keen on Gears 2, but Gears 3 has made the same kind of step up in playability as Killzone 3, so it’s just better, even from 30 minutes I can tell it’s a different game to play.

I agree 100% that UC is all about the single player, and that MP is a bonus, and this time it’s a fairly strong MP experience, but not when compared to the co-op team play & multiplayer modes of gears 3, which add to a very strong single player experience that I think will make it more of a long term game for players.
Like I said I loved UC2, but having completed it, there really isn’t much to go back for, the mulitiplayer for UC2 was weak.
I look forward to having both these games, and for me UC3 will offer more, as I don’t have Gold account to access multiplayer on Gears3 anyway, but for others who do, Gears will offer much more of a game.

Good point – that ‘lasting appeal” will cost you Xbots $60 a year…While Uncharted 3′s lasting appeal (offline/online co-op, survival mode, competitive mode, etc) it an added bonus to the amazing single player and it’s all free.
Uncharted 3 full experience = $60
Gears 3 full experience = $60 + $60(x) = over $120 from the getgo
x = number of years.

come on GT5 as so many visual blunders it’s not funny
way to many 2D objects, even large ones such as trees are faked in some of the tracks
large structures that lack geometric detail, and look almost like they were pulled out a N64 game
you’d be hard pushed to find a picture (in game race picture) where GT5 looks better.
Even Forza has some lame ass graphics with flat kerbs and poor textures on some roadside surfaces, gravel grass being the worst, but on the whole it looks better than GT5.
The lighting on Forza also makes the cars look like they belong in the senery more than any other racer, where you always have the slight feeling of the cars being added last and kind of sitting on top of a rendered backdrop, not quite fitting in.
Try wheel spinning an 800 BHP car on the start grid, then tell me GT5 is life like.
I can skid around more in my 207 at home than I can in most of the super cars in GT5, I think Forza, has more realistic traction physics when power is applied while GT5 feels better under heavy breaking.
Neither game is perfect, by a long way. otherwise I’d be a god dammed racing driver.

Forza does have the graphical egde. It looks a lot more appealing to me.
i don’t play racing games, I’m just going by the videos and screenshots I’ve seen.
GT looks more realistic, but that doesn’t always mean better.
Uncharted looks kinda cartoony in a way but theres no denying it’s easily the best looking console game.
To me Forza wins in the graphical department and jusdging by reviews, it wins in the gameplay department as well.
But, what do I know, I don’t play any of these games.

I have never claimed to have played this F4, and any real comparisons in game play I have ever made were Forza 3 Vs GT5

Also, I have to say that I find it amusing Godless that you actually took time to look through my trophies. Don’t worry though. I don’t know how long it will take me to beat the game but Uncharted 3 will be showing up as completed soon. Since you’re keeping an eye on things, my Uncharted 3 quest will start tomorrow evening sometime. As far as getting all of the trophies, that will not happen though.

Regardless, he was talking about the best exclusive games of 2011 on 360. There is also Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Gunstringer, and some others, but they are hardly best 360 GotY material. As for what is yet to be released exclusively this year, nothing noteworthy appears to be coming.

Microsoft doesn’t give anything away for free with their Gold membership. Free is not a concept for Microsoft. They don’t even give members a discount on game purchases. Since I’ve had Psn plus, I feel like I’ve actually got value back. I get free games and discounts on games.
