XCOM delayed to fiscal 2013 and Sony working on Bioshock Infinite Move controller

November 9, 2011

XCOM delayed to 2013 fiscal year and Sony working on Bioshock Infinite Move controller One thing this month has taught gamers is that too many games coming out at the same time can physically hurt us. It appears that the friendly chaps at Take-Two have decided to clear the road for us next year.

Take-Two issued a press release detailing some sad news about XCOM. With Max Payne 3 and XCOM releasing in the same month, the publisher has now decided to delay the alien invasion simulator from March 6, 2012 to sometime between April 2012 and March 2013.

Its unfortunate as I was more excited about XCOM than playing with a potbellied Max Payne incarnation.

In other news, it appears that Sony let slip news of a new Move controller that is specially being crafted for Bioshock: Infinite. Videogamer reported that UK PlayStation wrote: “A special PS Move peripheral is being produced that will draw you even deeper into this stunning vision of a parallel future."

This bit is now missing from the article on the PlayStation Site. No doubt, this device is probably being designed in coordination with Ken Levine as he excitedly spoke about implementing the Move with Bioshock: Infinite. This may be the killer title the Move needs to make good use of the dust collecting device.

It seems like PS3 owners will be in for a treat as the PlayStation version of Bioshock: Infinite will also come with a copy of the original Bioshock game on disc.

  1. CON:

Sounds like more tat for the for move.

Bioshock 1 is so much better that the second. Will be well worth a buy for ps3.

“It seems like PS3 owners will be in for a treat as the PlayStation version of Bioshock: Infinite will also come with a copy of the original Bioshock game on disc.”

You’ll excuse me if I take that with a pinch of salt for now.

Pity about xcom, been waiting forever for that game.

IF PS3 get Bioshock one, then it’s going to be the better package, regardless of any minor performace issues there might be.

I have Bioshock 2 on 360, but have only just started playing it.

  3. phranctoast:

Considering all the rave with Killzone 3 and the Move, maybe Bioshock Infinite will use it well too.

What I saw from XCOM made it look like a last gen game. The game desperately needs more time in development. Any delay will be good in that respect.

  4. Roca.:

“IF PS3 get Bioshock one, then it’s going to be the better package, regardless of any minor performace issues there might be”

If you haven’t played Bioshock 1, then yes it will be the better version regardless of any “minor” performance issues.

unless there are ‘noticeable’ game breaking issues…gaming content > “minor” issues.

  5. phranctoast:

“Bioshock 1 is so much better that the second. .”

I don’t know about that. It can be argued that the second game is so much better than the first in a lot of ways. My problem with the second game, is it doesn’t feel like a sequel too much. It almost feels like a long expansion pack more so than a true sequel.

The story was weaker in the second one. It didn’t have the Sixth sense surprise moment like the first, and no end boss fight. I missed the Circus of values, creating weapons with invent, and back tracking, but loved the new plasmids, the remote hack tool, and MP wasn’t half bad.

  6. CON:

The first was an absolute masterpiece for me, such a strong story throughout and then with the twist. So much mystery, like mentioned above the second felt like more of an expansion pack…whatever happened to the ghosts in the second due to taking plasmids?

  7. phranctoast:

Bioshock Infinite appears to be the true sequel to Bioshock.

Bioshock to me was a game where the flaws were outweighed by what made it great.

I really disliked the respawing enemies in B1 and 2. It made exploration for ammo and such tedious, as that exploration rarely warranted you anything substantial and you ended up having to fight more splicers even though you felt like you cleared the room twice already.

Unless you were playing with vital chambers off, most times didn’t feel like a huge deal to just let yourself die to see if you can beat the part using less ammo than before because you’re just going to respawn in a chamber. The enemies are also degraded in health, so you can do this several times with minimal effect on yourself and just where the enemies down in time. Kind of cheesy.

Other complaints stem from the archaic PC collect system, where you choose what you remove from drawers rather than collecting it all, which most people do anyway.

  8. Roca.:

in the first one you were an average man, started with nothing & had to survive against the splicers (and big daddies) and all the madness in Rapture city (which was an awesone first experience)

in the second one you were the king of Rapture city (a big daddy) and it gave you the feeling that you were overpowered from the start. the WOW-factor of Rapture city was not the same as the first time…the story was weak as well.

  9. phranctoast:

“just where the enemies down in time.”

Should say “just wear the enemies down in time.”

  10. oldschool1987:

“in the second one you were the king of Rapture city (a big daddy) and it gave you the feeling that you were overpowered from the start. the WOW-factor of Rapture city was not the same as the first time…the story was weak as well”

    Agreed.

Bioshock one I bought day one on the 360 and everything about it blew me away, I even bought it again when it was released on the Ps3. Bioshock 2 is nothing new, nothing especial. I expected more in a sequel to one of the most original games I have ever played(at the time).

Infinite looks amazing, I’m glad it’s the studio who made the original BS and not the studio who made the second.

    OT:

Last night I had a pretty epic battle with the 4 kings. It was my first time in going through New Londo Ruins. After fighting through what felt like hundreds of Wraiths, I made it to the bosses chamber.

I had NO magic left, and only 6 Estues flasks. I thought to myself, “what the hell, let’s give it a try and see what happens.” I through on the Onion Knight armor, equipped some green herbs, and jumped down to what I assumed would be certain death.

The first king did the grab move on a few times, and did some major damage. I went through a few flasks, but beat him. Then I beat the other two kings, and went through a few more flasks.

Only one King remained. I double handed my Qulaaq Fury Sword +4, and went to work. I had no more flasks yet. As we chipped away at either others health, I was confident I would prevail.

Out of desperation I started to wildly fling my sword back, and forth… and then it happened. DOUBLE KO. We both landed a killing blow on each other at the same time.

I left a huge pile of souls down there. After respawning at the last fire I saved at, I figured I’d take a shortcut down and reclaim my pile of lost souls. On my way back down, I managed to get cornered by like 10 Wraiths at once and died. Souls lost.

I turned off the console. Curled up into a fetal position, and went to bed for the night.

  12. Roca.:

“Out of desperation I started to wildly fling my sword back, and forth”

LMAO. Most of the times I died was because I was doing exactly this…lol.

New Londo Ruins is a bitch…no Bonfires and the Ghots & the Wraiths are just to much.

  13. dans303:

    Dark Souls rules, huh?

  14. Roca.:

    @Dans303
watch it on youtube, don’t miss out ;)

  15. dans303:

    Touché :D

  16. phranctoast:

    “@Dans303
watch it on youtube, don’t miss out”

lol. I still can’t believe you do that.

It’s still better than how Capt ruined all the puzzles in Portal 2 by watching the game on youtube prior to playing, but not by much.

  17. dans303:

    @phranc

Uncharted 3 is the only game I’ve ever done it for. The main reason is that I barely have any money to live, never mind splash out on a game.

Though I am perfectly open to anyone who’s willing to donate their copy to me once they’ve finished with it. :D

  18. phranctoast:

    Gamefly? Blockbuster? Anything?

  19. Roca.:

    Youtube?

  20. dans303:

    “Gamefly? Blockbuster? Anything?”

I’m thinking of joining Lovefilm (which does game rentals) next summer when I’m at home for a few months. I just don’t get enough time on the PS3 atm to justify joining a rental service. I mean you see how little I sign into PSN these days, and even then most of the time it’s to play COD with my flatmates.

    “Youtube?”

    Shu’up Roca. ;)

  21. Roca.:

next summer…you’re not planning to game at all until next summer? (COD doesn’t count)

  22. dans303:

    @roca

There’s not much I can do about it I’m afraid. Literally don’t have the money to spare until I find a job in Edinburgh. I’ve brought down a few games from home (Uncharted 2, Mirror’s Edge, GT5, etc) and that will have to suffice until I do have the cash.

Hopefully I’ll get a game for Christmas but if not I probably will have to wait until the summer. It’s about the only negative thing about going to Uni.

  24. Roca.:

Uncharted sold (shipped) 3.8 million units on day one.

  25. oldschool1987:

It weren’t shipped Roca. Confirmed by Sony that those numbers represent how many copies have actually been sold.

  26. ToshithegreaT:

    Steam got hacked WTF

  27. oldschool1987:

Blame Sony for that, I’ve already read comments of xbots somehow blaming Sony lmao.

  28. CaptBirdman:

“It’s still better than how Capt ruined all the puzzles in Portal 2 by watching the game on youtube prior to playing, but not by much.”

OH hush lol. I’m a huge Valve fan… I only watched for the story. I haven’t bought Portal 2 yet…and I don’t remember a single puzzle (which for me, is bad); only thing I remember is how the white goop works

    *shrugs*

  29. CaptBirdman:

Interestingly, when we had the game on demo (at Best Buy), I beat it.

The weird part is, I STILL don’t remember the puzzles (but I guess that comes from not owning the game.).

  30. phranctoast:

When you get the game hit me up for some co op. :)

  31. Roca.:

I preordered the new Rayman game at Gamestop. The game looks like a great platformer, it’s been getting good reviews and by preordering it you get Beyond Good & Evil HD for free :)

  32. phranctoast:

    I just don’t see it as a $60 release.

  33. Roca.:

yeah I was thinking the same. idk if I’m going to get it right away. I just preordered ‘just in case’ but I can always get my money back if I change my mind.

  34. Barnabe Jones:

Where’s Mike Ferro, and Dave Patrick?

Must be nice to only have to work a couple days a week. ;)

  35. oldschool1987:

The new Zelda game scores are ridiculous! I can’t fucking wait to play it! It’s a great year for games.

  36. Roca.:

as much as I love Zelda. I just can’t get into playing it using motion controls. Skyward Sword is all motion based. even the menu.

I’m sure it is an awesome game but I wish Nintendo will give you the option to use a gamecube or a classic controller.

  37. Barnabe Jones:

I’m going to check it out at some point.

I already have the stupid Wii motion+. FINALLY there’s a good game that uses it.

I’m going to get Skyrim before Skyward though… also Uncharted, and Batman.

  38. oldschool1987:

What’s Wii Motion+????? Is it necessary for Zelda? How much is it? And who framed Roger Rabbit???

  39. phranctoast:

Does the new Zelda require motion +?

If so, that’s kind of fucked up, and I would also prefer to simply just have a controller option.

  40. phranctoast:

    @OS
beat me by a half second. :D

  41. Barnabe Jones:

Well, I’m at work now and the blocks here are pretty strict. Anything releasted to “games”… even wikipedia pages, are blocked.

Wii Morion + was the add on to the Wii mote. It makes the Wii mote a lot more accurate. The problem is only about 3 games have used it since it came out a few years ago.

I’m pretty certain you do need Wii Motion +. I think the regular wii mote only tracks up, down, left, and right.

    It’s like $20 I think.

  42. Barnabe Jones:

According to two Yahoo ansers pages… YES. You do need Wii Motion +.

  43. Zoar:

    xcom looks so boring now.

It’s like they rip-off call of duty and mass effect. In fact, they did rip-off call of duty and mass effect!

take a look at this video to see how bad xcom looks:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SH19sgisEk

Other news: I’m more excited about Max Payne and Bioshock: Infinite.

  44. Zoar:

Xenonauts is more of an X-COM game then whatever 2K is making.

    take a look at Xenonauts:

  45. ncaissie:

I just watched the video. Sub par graphics and I’m not into games where I have to manage my team. I like to just upgrade my own weapons and unleash hell.

  46. Zoar:

To ncaissie: Yeah, I know,, i know. [sad]

It was made by a very small team, but still….

You know, the funny thing is: I would have love a FPS X-COM, but this is just a FPS Mass Effect. At best.

I wanted to command a team like in this video:
