Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand hits PS3 today with explosive Wake Island trailer
As promised by EA and DICE, the latest expansion pack dropped exclusively for the PS3 earlier today ahead of the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. PS3 owners will get to experience the popular Wake Island reimagined for Battlefield 3.
Up on the PlayStation Blog, DICE product manager Tommy Ryding posted an all new trailer showing off Wake Island, running on the PS3 hardware and it looks intense. Most PS3 owners of Battlefield 3 will be able to download the expansion pack for free today if you have the limited edition. If not, then you can also buy it off the PSN store for $15.
Back to Karkand includes: Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula and can be selected on the server browser as well as filtered. This is definitely exciting news as I’ve spent countless hours running around on Wake Island on all of the Battlefield iterations.
Back to Karkand will also be available on the Xbox 360 and PC December 13th.

A week?
Sony practically did all of activisions advertising for BF3. They should have gotten more…not that I’m complaining, just bought bf3 on Monday.

That looks so much better than the BF1943 version of wake Island. They have really pushed the graphics forward.
Still not played BF3 main game yet,only logged in to activate the free download for BF1943, I said I would wait till Christmas, but now I want to see it more than ever, I may have to sneak a game or two in after I complete Deadspace.

If they could make these games cross platform, so you could have 360 Vs PS3, now that would be awesome. It would add some tension as the fanboys fight for not just kill ratio, but for the honour of there console

They did both a street fighter 4 and bad company 2 tourney on joystiq i believe of ps3 vs 360 players and, unsurprisingly, in sf4 the ps3 camp came out on top, while surprisingly, they also came out on top in bc2…

I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. As of now the PS3 plays more nicely with the PC than the 360 does, and that’s on a Windows OS.

IF MS were to slacken their grip on the 360 connectivity then I don;t see that there would be a problem.

Either way 360 to PC cross platform play should come easy as they are pc development friendly, unfortunately, Sony has done a better job with PC to PS3 relations….aka Unreal Tournament, Steam, Portal and whatnot….

All ive ever bitched about on the 360 is this:
Hardware issues, warranty means shit to me as i would still be asked out on a console, BUT, this has been less a problem for at least 2 years now
Gold Subscription, they can keep it for all i care, but as long as they tie online play to it, while their rivals offer it free of charge, i will never get a 360…unless…
More Exclusives…Halo, Forza are nothing to me, GT for me and KZ/BF for my fps needs….Fable and Gears, is not enough game or exclusive for me personally to invest in the 360…BUT, as i keep mentioning…release a Mech Assault 3 with dropships (<–dropships are that importany to me MA2 was awesome fun flying them ) and Killer Instinct 3 and, yes, ibwould take the plunge…
Anywhoo just thought id clarify to you what my issues with MS have been this whole time, oh that and they not pushing any games to be the top of their genres be it through graphics or gameplay…..

Starhawk is pretty much – lots of stuff to build, many of them which I couldn’t figure out what they were for. I think some of them are for resources to build stuff. I didn’t like of the maps but other than that everything was pretty good.

D-Pad is better (for those that chose not to use fight sticks).
Daigo plays SSF4 online over Live, but it’s because his friend has a live account and he plays over his friend’s. Normally he’s in the arcades anyway though.

Online. live still has a better gaming community, in fact online the 360 still betters the PS3 on most fronts, other than the fact you have to pay for most of it, which is shit.
If any of the big three is in trouble, it’s Nintendo.
They have been churning out the same shit over and over, with barely a change to the look or gameplay. Good example: Mario cart (one of the biggest sellers, look and plays the same on DS. 3DS. N63, & Wii, and it’s the same for half the other big titles, only Zelda, looks to a made real advancements.
This gen, the Wii has sold really well, but it’s also well known, that most Wiis, sit on a shelf collecting dust, once the first month has passed and the novelty of the wii mote has worn off, and the realisation that the console is shit by comparison to the PS3 & 360.

If you really think the next xbox will fail then that’s you opinion, I personally think, that it will yet again pose a huge threat to Sony, partly because the next one looks to be a more targeted media centre, built on a variation of windows 8.
The only thing MS needs to do to stay right in Sonys face, is to drop the Gold account charge, if they persist in it, I think it could seriously affect there chances.

I 100% agree that game sales is not something that concerns gamers, and that quality games is all that matters
I’m using it purely to counter the “MS is in trouble” thing. because the facts are that MS are not in trouble. I agree they are loosing some of their hardcore following, but this is probably more than offset by the gains being made elsewhere.
The hardware & game sales figures are a way of gauging the health of the product, and the 360 is still far from finished as some here are claiming.
And yes I agree that charging for Gold is shit, and that more than anything is why I buy more games now on the PS3. In fact for almost a year, I have only bought PS3 games for this reason, though I will get Gears 3 and Forza4 at some point.

yes, PS3 offers best graphics this gen. Only on a couple of games that stand out as being better than anything on the 360, but games like Forza 4 and Gears 3 look and perform better than most ps3 games. still the larger % of 3drd party games look better on the 360 (3rd party games make up the largest share of games worth having)
PS3 has free online, that makes it better than something you have to pay for. if Gold were free, then it would be the better quality service.
PS3 is not cheaper, not anywhere I’ve ever looked.

Roca, the ONLY thing that has me playing the PS3 more than the xbox just now is the free online gaming, nothing else matters to me, I still think PSN is a mess, it has a fraction of what Live has, and is a slow bitch, so painfully slow to brows around in.
90% of the games I have are pretty much the same on both systems. I do really like some of the PS3 exclusives, but I like just as many of the 360s exclusives, so there is literally nothing in it for me between the systems (as a gaming device), other than the free online gaming. If Gold were free, then it would still be my preferred option, as I still think the 360 plays better online and I still prefer the controller despite having used the PS3 one a lot more over the last year or so.
I’m not blindly defending MS, I like the system for reasons that matter to me. I like playing games, I don’t have a loyalty to any one console that prevents me playing on the other, unlike some.

I am in the minority on this issue. Yes, it sucks you have to pay for Xbox live but Xbox live is the best overall online service. If Xbox360 was free, there would be tons more people on Xbox live then Psn.

Gotcha on the MS is in trouble thing, but let me elabotate on what i mean when i say MS is in trouble…
In terms of exclusives, MS are in trouble…hers my opinion why..
If anything was proved this gen, its that developers, multiplatform developers, will no longer stay exclusive….
So, we can pretty much cancel out multiplats next gen, as, 98% of the multiplat games will be available on ALL systems….so what do we look for to differentiate each console? Their exclusives….in which MS only has possibly 4 solid franchises: Halo, Forza, Fable and MAYBE Gears….
Halo is, from what i gather from the 360 guys on this site, is starting to stagnate….not so with Forza or Fable….
Sony has…Ratchet, Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter, Modnation, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Killzone, God of War, Twistes Metal, Wipeout, Starhawk, Motorstorm…thats just off the top of my head and its alreaxy over twice the amount if exclusives MS currently has…to the gamer….which platform offers more games….more games in multiple genres….and by the way, all these games have set the.standard for their respective genres, so these games are no slouch…
Nintendo has Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, Kirby, Mario Kart…thats just off the top of my head, and only god knows why…Nintendo is able to thrive despite lack of an online service….
If Nintendo doesnt cater in 3rd party support to back its obviously legendary 1st larty support, along with adding an online service like PSn/LIVE Then i would say they in the same boat as MS…..
Sony seems the only one already ready for next gen….

thanks for providing us with more opinions and more IF’s
and please don’t confuse user interface with online gameplay..gameplay wise, Microsoft & publusher are always battling hackers and cheaters (Gears, COD, etc)..and while there are hackers and cheaters on PS3, it’s not as big of a issue as it’s on XBL. Also games on PSN tents to get patched up rather quickly while it takes weeks to patch games on XBL.
Also, my list mention a bunch of things EXCEPT online gameplay. I said the PSN network and its sub based servers are better overall (value, features, open, etc)..see below and tell me if I’m wrong (again, based on overall values and features)
PSN > XBL
PSN = XBLG (but gold cost $60/yr)
PSN+ > XBLG (and gold cost $10 more)
PSN + PSN+ > XBL + XBLG

I don’t care that there may be more cheaters/hackers on Xbox live or what type of servers Psn has vs Xbox live. I can only judge by the end results. Navigating through Xbox live is faster and not as sluggish as Psn. Downloads of movies, games, and demos are blazingly fast on Xbox live. I like this. I wish the Ps3 was as fast as this.
