Sony opening doors to non-PSN storefront on the PS3 with Dust 514
Develop has called Dust 514 the PS3’s most important game previously and as time goes by its becoming evident as to why this could be the case. Besides being probably the most ambitious cross platform/game universe project of all time, the developers will also be “trailblazing” across new console territory with its universal currency.
Develop stated back in October, that Dust 514 could push microtransactions to the forefront on the consoles and even made the bold prediction that it could make “Xbox Live appear insular and out of touch by comparison.”
In a recent interview with CCP, the developer behind EVE Online and Dust 514, studio head Hilmar Pétursson revealed that the company is in talks with Sony on implementing its universal currency system over PSN.
This is equivalent to Steam opening up shop right on the PlayStation Network, which no console has done before. Typically in the past, Microsoft or Sony would force developers to utilize the platforms currency system (either MS Points or via PSN wallet).
However, it looks like Sony is experimenting with the idea of letting a company bring its digital storefront and currency system onto the platform. For anyone that may have played EVE Online, the level of microtransactions in the game are substantial needing its own complex store front.
Pétursson: Yes and they haven’t done anything like this before. We’re having many meetings with them[Sony] to ensure they have solid policies on virtual currency. Given the amount of back and forth there, we can definitely see us breaking new ground.
Reid: Yeah these meetings with Sony have been fantastic. We are both trailblazing together. CCP and Sony are right there in the same room figuring all this out together.
Pétursson confirmed that Sony would be taking a slice off the top of all transactions purchased through the game. If this experiment is a success I could very well see Valve bringing the Steam storefront onto PSN as well with its sweet discounts.

I didn’t turn around on the game, it just didn’t live up to first impressions. The games graphics were highly overrated. The online for Crysis 2 was great though.

I don’t own a 3ds so I want be getting Resident Evil on 3ds. I am just not a Nintendo fan. The Vita will be the first ever handheld gaming device that I am actually going to buy. I will be getting Uncharted for the Vita as well as another game or so.

There’s no shame Twilight. I was kicked out of a 4 year college for poor grades, being distracted with the girls, using loan money to buy video games instead of textbooks for class, you name it……So I took a deep look within myself….and a few months months later I went back to college at a Technical College and earned my Associates.
I went from a 1.4 gpa to a 3.6 gpa while I attended there. And now I’m back at a 4 year college hoping to achieve my Bachelor’s. I understand you’re pain….Since 2008 I have been going to college year round and there have been times that I just wished a hippo would swallow me or a spaceship would blast me off to Neptune or somewhere lol.
If you ever have a change of heart….go back to college and finish what you started. Don’t let a silly Accounting or Economics class hold you back from accomplishing your goals!
I say that not as a young inexperienced punker kid in his mid 20′s…but as a wise friend who has been down the dark road and beyond as you. I know that I’m the “joke-ster” of this site but the words I have shared are sincere.

The most difficult thing I had to do was sell all of my Xbox/360 games and half of my PS3 games….I did it so I could complete my Associate’s degree. That’s why I had to delete all of you guys last year to focus on studying…
